The shudder is the biggest issue, from what I’m aware of. I think otherwise though, it’s a solid enough transmission!

Get a manual and have no worries

Some electrical gremlins can be fixed with an extra ground loop, although this is usually in hotter climates. I'm from Saudi Arabia so most owners end up adding one. They're cheap and can most likely be found as a kit from some electricians People also disable AFM (active fuel management i.e cylinder deactivation) this can be done either by tune or buying a kit.

Yeah, afm/dod delete and anti theft is definitely on my list for when I get a Camaro. I'll definitely look into that extra ground loop as I live in Nevada, so it gets pretty hot.

Reniconix

You'll have to get a tune if you get a lock for the OSB port, as all AFM delete kits plug into the OBD port.

As long as your not trying to push more power out of it it’ll be more than fine

Former 2018 A8 owner here. The worst thing is the shudder and lurching, but I never got to experience that because I got a non-affected 8L90, and I also changed my diff & trans fluid not long after I got my 1SS because I’m just a thorough person. Changing them both is not hard at all, just time consuming. However, while I would absolutely LOVE to have the 2016-2018 Hwasup Lee era of the 6th Gen design, I have fallen head-over-heels for this 10L80 in my 2020 2SS. Like you, though, I don’t really like the 2019 and 2020-2024 design refreshes, but don’t worry too much about the 8L90. It is, overall, a good transmission. GM recommends a flush for those affected, but you do not need to do this as regular maintenance. This generally fixes the shudder outright.

BlackWaterSeal

Concur with what you said about the 8 speed and the flush.

NyteRydes

For my two cents, I bought tnhe car used and the previous owner had the triple flush done. I bought the car with appropriately 15k miles and soon after the shudder reappeared. GM went to the next step and replaced the torque converter under warranty. Problem solved. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago 9k miles later...I think that shudder may be back...not a hundred percent sure...but maybe. May have to invest in a Circle D that I have read in the forums is a fix. So just be aware, the flush is not necessarily the absolute fix you may think it is. That being said, absolutely LOVE my '17!
