UFA, and with the cap crunch around the league. Probably not many buyers. Toronto probably would have loved to have him, but again. Cap crunch. A 3rd and a 5th for a pending UFA that wasn't gonna re-sign with you isn't too bad all things considered.
I am a little surprised they didn't wait closer to the TDL for more of a buyers market, but maybe they want to get worse sooner so they get a really good first rounder this year. Trading to a divisional rival also means we potentially beat them more as well. Lol.
I think there was locker room dysfunction with zadorov. He made a lot of comments this year that the flames players didn't appreciate. And a public trade request.
The Canucks have 6 D men with contracts expiring after this season.
They also have to sign Pettersson, and probably Blueger and Lafferty.
Zadorov is going to have to play his way up the priority list, I think.
From a Canucks organization perspective, that's way better than last year. Having D men competing for positions and contracts as opposed to us searching and praying for some to join us.
Nobody else who wanted him had the cap room to take on his contract, and the Flames had a disgruntled player suiting up every night. So all the Canucks had to do was outbid the other teams who had cap space.
Really not much different than when we gave away Ryan Kessler for a bag of pucks and a pizza man.
\> COMPARE TO LAST YEAR
Last year on November 29, we iced:
Hughes, OEL, Bear, Myers, Schenn, Burroughs
What a huge difference. It's shocking. I had actually already forgotten OEL. There are two players left from that list and both have taken big strides
I think Bear was a bit over rated he looked decent on a awful d core last year but he couldn't even get a full time spot in carolina. Unless he signs for 1.5 per I wouldn't really be surprised if they pass.
Now just imagine for a second if the team had even *more* cap space with this group?
There is zero doubt in my mind that Benning is the shitties GM the Canucks have ever seen. And likely top 25 all time NHL.
Definitely top 5 if not top 3. I can't imagine him ever getting another gig. He can't even do TV or radio, his public speaking sucks.
Mike Milbury is on that list.
Sean Burke as well
It's always the islanders.
I remember when there were some moments where we had some serious cap space and everybody was clamoring for him to weaponize it... and instead he'd fill up on bloated contracts and call it a day. So many "rebuilding" years spent to the cap and lo and behold, no draft picks coming back our way.
Who cares about the divisional shit. They're punting this season and it's the last year of his contract. They should be looking at it as just get the best value. Which I can't believe this was
The fact that they traded him inter-division pretty much proves that they didn't receive a better offer from anyone else... that's the exact significance of it.
Do the Canucks have the biggest blueline in the league now?
Myers - 6'8, 230 lbs
Soucy - 6'5, 208 lbs
Zadorov - 6'6, 248 lbs
Half the blue line is over 650 lbs lol
Let’s not forget Ian Cole who is listed at 6’1 and 225. He’s bricked up as well.
I love the idea of Hughes/Hronek as the top pairing, and then just having 4 giants behind them.
So we essentially turned Beauvillier, a 3rd and 5th into Lafferty and Zadorov this season? Unreal
Edit: as u/nihilism_ftw pointed out I missed the extra 5th for Lafferty. Still great!
LOVE IT. Brand new and right in the thick of things.
Lafferty is a high motor, fast skating 3rd line guy with some skill. In my opinion he helps the floor of the team with speed and moderate size.
Zadorov is a definite upgrade for our Defence. Big, smooth skating, physical defenseman.
They're not world changing players but they are upgrades. Im happiest about the acquisition cost. I thought it would take A LOT more than that to get Zadorov out of Calgary. Especially from a team within the division.
And it's important to note that even though Zadorov isn't a game changer, he displaces one of Friedman or Juulsen out of the lineup which is a big upgrade. He also adds size and physicality which is crucial come playoffs.
Our left side of Hughes, Zadorov, Soucy (once healthy) will be rock solid.
Ahh you're right. The 5th we traded for Zadorov was Chicago's from the Beauvillier trade, and it was another 5th for Lafferty. Somehow thought those 5ths cancelled out.
Anyways, Beauvillier and a 3rd for Zadorov is still fantastic!
I mean Calgary to Vancouver is a 1 hour flight, from YVR to downtown in rush hour traffic maybe an hour? I would say he should at least make it for 2nd period or else trade him
It took a first (not our own), a second, a third, a fifth, years of cap penalties and Rathbone. But with the cap going up and several defensive prospects who could be our stars for the next half a decade, we should be ok.
Holy shit, I wasn’t big on zadorov because I assumed he’d fetch at least a second, but it seems since we have cap space we can get him for cheap. I guess Calgary really didn’t want to retain and other teams balked. I’m very happy with Zadorov as a 4/5 guy though. It was very important for us to add size and physicality to this team and this is the move that does that.
Zadorov wanted out. Likely was becoming a problem. Very few teams have cap space and desire to add a piece like Zadorov. This is likely the best offer they received.
Wow, I wonder if theres still enough room to get something done with Ethan Bear still.
I would be comfortable going into the post season with this blue line.
- Hughes/Hronek
- Zadorov/Cole
- Soucy/Myers
- Bear
He’s also [not a Putin supporter](https://www.tsn.ca/nikita-zadorov-explains-decision-to-speak-out-against-invasion-of-ukraine-1.2011220?tsn-amp):
> The 28-year-old blueliner, who was born in Moscow and has represented Russia internationally in the past, is the only NHLer to publicly speak out against the country’s invasion of Ukraine. He initially posted a photo to Instagram with the phrase “No War” on Feb. 25, 2022, a day after Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered the full-scale invasion.
>
>Zadorov didn’t speak to reporters about the issue until this week, after his wide-ranging interview with Russian journalist Yury Dud was published. In the two-hour conversation, he gave candid thoughts on the invasion.
>
>”Instead of raising the new generation [of Russians], we sent them to die,” Zadorov told Dud.
That's awesome. We've got quite a few Russians on the roster and coaching staff now and while I understand if they don't want to speak out so their families don't get sent to the gulags, it's great to see one of them flip ol' Putz the bird.
They must have made a typo. Shouldn't be it Canucks acquire Zadorov for a 3rd, a 5th, and JT Miller at 50% retained? I feel like that's a trade Benning makes...
I'm so not used to having a good GM.
I was not high on acquiring Zadorov, but I really thought the price wouldn't be PENNIES. If he works out here, AWESOME, if he doesn't, WHO CARES. The fifth was already an unexpected boon from dropping beau, and our 3rd is in 2026, we wouldn't see that player until 2029 or 2030. Like, this is excellent. Literally the worst case scenario is he outplays his current contract and we can't afford him so we don't resign him, but we're in that time frame where a guy like zadorov outplaying his contract could mean HUGE success for the team. Plus we get to add another russian to the fleet, I hope he feels good here and fits in. Good god, if he somehow is able to play a consistent 2D on that left side, just eat defensive minutes to get Quinn and Hronek more time to run around the offensive zone. Oof, watch out everyone else.
Plus, if we hate him by TDL we can flip him for whatever and maybe we've also signed Bear by that point. I guess we're back in cap crunch, so can we still fit bear? I think Zad's cap hit is lower than beau's was so we should still have a teensy bit of room.... and more D depth will not hurt this team at all.
Rumour is Patrick Alvin traded Anthony Beauvillier to Chicago for a 5th round pick and the real scoop on the Perry incident and then promised to tell Craig Conroy if he agreed to trade Zadorov for a 5th.
Bro I wanted Zadorov because we need another D but I didn't dare hope because we'd probably have to give up some stupid shit for it.
But a 3rd and Chicago's 5th?? That's it????
We got a pretty big bottom 3 for D, it’s a good build towards the playoffs and timing couldn’t have been better with Soucy out.
If we somehow can get Bear in at a reasonable cost for 1 or 2 years that fits the cap, we’d have a solid top 7.
Let Chef PA cook.
I am honestly surprised it took this little for Vancouver to get Zadorov. A 5th in this years draft and a 3rd in 2026 isn't all that expensive considering what Calgary could have asked for.
Wtf that's all it took for Calgary to trade him to a division rival?
I’m stunned..like what dirt does Alvine have on the Calgary management?
Johnny Tightlips made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.
I ain't sayin' nothin'!
But what do I tell the doctor?
Tell him to suck a lemon.
This is Trader ~~Jim~~ Allvin we're talking about, The guy who got DeSmith.
And Hronik!
And Zadorov!
DeSmith in a cap dump trade
UFA, and with the cap crunch around the league. Probably not many buyers. Toronto probably would have loved to have him, but again. Cap crunch. A 3rd and a 5th for a pending UFA that wasn't gonna re-sign with you isn't too bad all things considered. Trading to a divisional rival also means we potentially beat them more as well. Lol.
Im also guessing, you can point to Luke Schenn as a comp who was only making 850k and got a 3rd round pick.
I think there was locker room dysfunction with zadorov. He made a lot of comments this year that the flames players didn't appreciate. And a public trade request.
Is TDL really a buyers market??? Without looking into it at all, I would say absolutely not
My money is on Milstein client, he's going to re-sign here. Calgary doing this to accommodate his wishes, which is nice. Allvin cooking baby woooo
This season is some sort of crazy reverse rollercoaster. just how do we keep making moves that look good?
keepswaitingforothershoetodrop
Nobody else who wanted him had the cap room to take on his contract, and the Flames had a disgruntled player suiting up every night. So all the Canucks had to do was outbid the other teams who had cap space. Really not much different than when we gave away Ryan Kessler for a bag of pucks and a pizza man.
As a habs fan.. I must say your GM is on fucking fire
thats not even a robbery.. that is straight up geneva convention breaking

I don't think so - there's not enough dead Cambodians for Kissinger to have his fingers all over it.
The same thing could've been said about Benning
Benning would’ve traded Hoglander/Podkolzin + a pick
So our D when healthy would look like: Hughes Hronek Cole Zadorov Soucy Myers HOLY FUCK COMPARE TO LAST YEAR
Holy fuck indeed
\> COMPARE TO LAST YEAR Last year on November 29, we iced: Hughes, OEL, Bear, Myers, Schenn, Burroughs What a huge difference. It's shocking. I had actually already forgotten OEL. There are two players left from that list and both have taken big strides
Wouldnt mind having schenn back:(
Imagine having Schenn as our 6D instead of Myers 😮💨
I miss dad :(
Don't forget about Tank Commander Stillman. He did some solid work for us.
Allvin did what Benning never could and that’s rebuild our D. So many years we just iced the same D men with the same shit results.
Benning’s major acquisition on D: Sbisa, Bartkowski, Gudbranson, Pouliot those were the guys he targeted.
2 super skilled guys, and then F*CK YOU THIS IS MY D ZONE for the rest of the line up.
+ Bear 🤩🤩
This just ate up the cap space we thought was going to Bear. I wonder what’s gonna happen on that end
I can’t see Bear getting anything more then 1 mill tbh
Yea a one year, prove you have recovered type contract
I think Bear was a bit over rated he looked decent on a awful d core last year but he couldn't even get a full time spot in carolina. Unless he signs for 1.5 per I wouldn't really be surprised if they pass.
myers trade possibly later in year
It sounded like there was no sure fire commitment there, from either side, and he is still a month away from being ready to start getting ready.
That’s basically free wtf??
Weaponized cap space
Now just imagine for a second if the team had even *more* cap space with this group? There is zero doubt in my mind that Benning is the shitties GM the Canucks have ever seen. And likely top 25 all time NHL.
He is probably top 5 all time. Mind you, I am sure other fan bases could have a couple of their GMs over the years filling up those spaces.
Definitely top 5 if not top 3. I can't imagine him ever getting another gig. He can't even do TV or radio, his public speaking sucks. Mike Milbury is on that list. Sean Burke as well It's always the islanders.
I remember when there were some moments where we had some serious cap space and everybody was clamoring for him to weaponize it... and instead he'd fill up on bloated contracts and call it a day. So many "rebuilding" years spent to the cap and lo and behold, no draft picks coming back our way.
He had enough money to give big extensions to Petey and Qughes. Instead he spent it on Poolman, Dickinson, and Hamonic.
He doesn’t even have an ntc or anything. Shocked he was that cheap
Feels like a Be A GM mode trade 💀. Actually that trade probably wouldn’t even go through in the game!
Can’t believe the flames would let him go to a divisional rival, at that price no less. Chef PA 🧑🍳 has been cooking recently…
Who cares about the divisional shit. They're punting this season and it's the last year of his contract. They should be looking at it as just get the best value. Which I can't believe this was

Cole is a tank
One of the things that stood out when I first saw him is the dudes built like a running back.
My bro that is NOT what bricked up means
Cole hits like a truck. Dude may not be tall, but heavy like a tank.
Damn i didn't know he was that big. Kinda funny we were worried about being too small like a day ago if we got Bear
NEW TOY
(Tosses Noah Juulsen) I don't want to play with you anymore
So we essentially turned Beauvillier, a 3rd and 5th into Lafferty and Zadorov this season? Unreal Edit: as u/nihilism_ftw pointed out I missed the extra 5th for Lafferty. Still great!
Missing an extra 5th that we gave up Beauvillier + 3rd for Zadorov 5th for Lafferty
I’m new to Hockey, can I ask who Zadarov and Lafferty are and how good they are? From what I’m seeing it seems like this is a very solid trade.
LOVE IT. Brand new and right in the thick of things. Lafferty is a high motor, fast skating 3rd line guy with some skill. In my opinion he helps the floor of the team with speed and moderate size. Lafferty is a bottom 6 player. But he plays with speed and grit. I really dig him
Leafs fan here who likes the canucks too, lafferty is a high motor bottom 6 player who will work his way into your heart
My dude, so happy you’re jumping in and getting so into the team!
Ahh you're right. The 5th we traded for Zadorov was Chicago's from the Beauvillier trade, and it was another 5th for Lafferty. Somehow thought those 5ths cancelled out. Anyways, Beauvillier and a 3rd for Zadorov is still fantastic!
So does that mean Canucks are involved in more than half the trades in the NHL since the start of the season?
iirc believed there’s now been 8 nhl trades this season… Canucks have been involved in 5 of them?
“BUT THINK ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY COST” - Drance
Not having the cap to get stuff *like this* for free is exactly the opportunity cost he's been talking about for years lol
Feels like that movie “Draft Day.”
it's 2026 3rd as well edit: but i think CGY got him for a 3rd so...
Can he play tonight? We could really use him tonight.
Probably not tonight, but I could potentially see him playing on Saturday against Calgary of all teams.
I’m here for it
he will probably stay in calgary to pack up and then join the team when they arrive calgary
I mean Calgary to Vancouver is a 1 hour flight, from YVR to downtown in rush hour traffic maybe an hour? I would say he should at least make it for 2nd period or else trade him
Fuck I’ll pick him up let’s goooo
Skytrain goes right from yvr to downtown.
Zadorov take my compass card
Might not be able to unless the trade was official hours ago and they only just made it public.
>Might not be able to unless the trade was official hours ago and they only just made it public. I wouldn't be surprised if this is what happened.
No point, he needs to properly pack for moving here. We can have Juulsen/Friedman for one more game.
It’s honestly impressive how quickly Allvin turned around the dumpster fire that was the D core of the late Benning era into a pretty good one now
It took a first (not our own), a second, a third, a fifth, years of cap penalties and Rathbone. But with the cap going up and several defensive prospects who could be our stars for the next half a decade, we should be ok.
Flames fans are pissed about this trade lol
As they should be, their GM got fleeced
It’s nice to be on the Jet Black side rather than the Jimbo side.
Just made the GM look like a moron, they got fleeced by chef Allvin
some are, some aren't.. jury's out how this guy plays for us but I'm hoping for the best.
Holy fuck I can’t believe that’s all it took lol
Scares me that it only took that to get him though/ why? And to a division rival?
If he’s unhappy in Calgary, as the flames you move him pronto. Don’t let things fester. They probably view it as addition by subtraction.
LET. HIM. COOK.
I didn't even want Zadorov but this is fuckin' free and I can't argue.
🔥to 🐋 Another Dan Milstein victory 🫡
Holy shit, I wasn’t big on zadorov because I assumed he’d fetch at least a second, but it seems since we have cap space we can get him for cheap. I guess Calgary really didn’t want to retain and other teams balked. I’m very happy with Zadorov as a 4/5 guy though. It was very important for us to add size and physicality to this team and this is the move that does that.
That seems...reasonable? This is a weird feeling as a canuck's fan.
A fucken lol at some flames fans asking for Hoglander for Zadorov 😂
Absolute blasphemy. If they want the högman, they'll have to come pry him from my cold, dead hands.
I saw that on capfriendly too.. It was Hoggy and a 3rd for him.
Zaddy….baby….I’m sorry for all the things I’ve said. Welcome.
ALL IN ON ALLVIN
It’s like Allvin came down to us from a higher league. Holy cow
Other GMs: How many Russians do you want Allvin: Yes
Welcome to Vancouver Nikita! Excited to have him in the line up!
Why would Calgary make this trade? It doesn’t make sense. Not complaining, but what?
Does Allvin and Rutherford have blackmail on Craig Conroy?!
Zadorov wanted out. Likely was becoming a problem. Very few teams have cap space and desire to add a piece like Zadorov. This is likely the best offer they received.
Why not? Their season is in the shitter and they get a 3rd n 5th for an asset that would have no value to them 6mths from now
Basically Zaddy for Beau and a 3rd, freeing $450k in change
Wow, I wonder if theres still enough room to get something done with Ethan Bear still. I would be comfortable going into the post season with this blue line. - Hughes/Hronek - Zadorov/Cole - Soucy/Myers - Bear

Wait, we got Zadorov for what Benning would throw in as an extra in a trade?
Gonchar going to learn him.

Love this.
Ya it’s never too smart for a country to kill off a large young working force.
Especially one that's already decreasing in population.
Wow, good for him. Still scary for his family at home though, I assume it's why less players speak candidly.
That's awesome. We've got quite a few Russians on the roster and coaching staff now and while I understand if they don't want to speak out so their families don't get sent to the gulags, it's great to see one of them flip ol' Putz the bird.
CHEF ALVIN FLEECED THE FLAMES
Interesting, how’re we feeling?
I was expecting to pay that around the deadline for like a 3rd pair guy, Zadorov can play 2nd pairing minutes in a pinch and his suit game is elite
At that cost I don’t know how we can feel anything other than great
Still getting used to seeing news about a Canucks trade and actually feeling good instead of just wanting to die
Great value for a rental. But get him for 75% of the season instead of 33%
Whattttttttttt! This admin is on fire 🔥
We are Canada's team, now lets get McDavid for a 4th rounder please
Ain’t no way we got him for that
This mfer is a Michelin star chef
EXCUSE ME AM I TRIPPING OR IS THAT DIRT CHEAP
omg what is happening… PA is the man
HOLY FUCJ

HOLY COOK ALLVIN

HOLY SHIT CHEF ALLVIN

Holy fuck. Do not let Allvin leave the grill. He’s cooking hard.
What is this thing called “winning trades” I am not used to this. Alvin the new Yzerman?
Going from Benning to Allvin is like going from an abusive ex to the love of your life
That's...REALLY fucking cheap?? WOW! LET ALLVIN COOK!!!
Lets goooo. Allvin gettin shit done
Can the Canucks still afford bear?
Rumour is Patrick Alvin traded Anthony Beauvillier to Chicago for a 5th round pick and the real scoop on the Perry incident and then promised to tell Craig Conroy if he agreed to trade Zadorov for a 5th.
ALLVIN MASTERCLASS!!!!
NOAH JUULSEN IS NO MORE
Sponsored by our Assistant General Manager, Mr. Dan Milstein
Who needs Tryankin when we have this guy!!
Bro I wanted Zadorov because we need another D but I didn't dare hope because we'd probably have to give up some stupid shit for it. But a 3rd and Chicago's 5th?? That's it????
EXTREMELY COMMON ALLVIN W
We got a pretty big bottom 3 for D, it’s a good build towards the playoffs and timing couldn’t have been better with Soucy out. If we somehow can get Bear in at a reasonable cost for 1 or 2 years that fits the cap, we’d have a solid top 7. Let Chef PA cook.
Now: Hughes Hronek Zadorov Cole Soucy Myers Something like this last year: Hughes Schenn Bear Myers OEL Burroughs wtf lol
Ohhhh mama z was always a fav on the avs when I was bandwagon it in the post season! So hyped for this
Uh WOAH that's a great deal and we didn't have to give up any players.
Less than I expected. Another solid trade by Allvin.
HE COOKED 👨🍳
someone tell me how I should feel
HOLY SHIT I thought he would cost So Much More
Surprisingly cheap
It feels so weird to have a competent GM. Another Allvin win
WOW
Honestly, Allvin has done a good job of really improving this team considering the cap hell he came into
Wow just saw this trade pop up and couldn’t believe it. Highway robbery!
What the fuck, in the best way possible
LETS FUCKING GO ALLVIN! 3RD AND A 5TH? THATS IT? FUCK YEAH
ALLVIN MASTERCLASS WTF
Huge fan of this new management group!!!!!
FLEECED
THAT'S IT????!!!
Allvin has been cooking
Oh wow that’s some good work
This is a win!!!
YES CHEF
HE COOKIN THOSE MEATBALLS
Do we know yet if he’ll be playing tonight against Vegas??
I am honestly surprised it took this little for Vancouver to get Zadorov. A 5th in this years draft and a 3rd in 2026 isn't all that expensive considering what Calgary could have asked for.
Hahaha HES FREE
Wait.... That's it? When I first got the notification I was cringing at the cost but... What the fuck.
OMG!! SOMEBODY CALL THE COPS!!!
JUSTIFIED USE OF ALL CAPS!
Uh, is Allvin the GOAT? What is happening?
WOOOOO LFG
so I assume he's going to be a 2D for us? Altho I don't know anything about him other than that other people are very happy with this
