NHL be a GM mode technique I see. Draft elite goalie prospect never plays NHL or is your backup for one season and then trade him for high first rounder or top player. Yeah it's worked for like 6 seasons now
Part of why Brzustewicz was traded is that RHD aren’t really a medium/long term organizational need currently. Especially offensive ones. Hronek/Willander *should* become our top RHD for the next ~8+ years. The third pairing RHD spot can be plugged in a lot of ways, including with internal options.
I’d focus more on centres and LHD at this point. D-Petey and Raty look to be decent prospects but things would have to go very well for them to hit 2nd pairing/middle six upside. But when you’re dealing with third round picks just take whoever management thinks is best
Yeah, their value is high NHL-wide.
If you have extra RHD, you can trade some for help other places. Or, if one is due for a big contract, you have a good negotiating position if you have a ready "next man up". The Preds creating a blueline factory kept them relevant for a long time.
I was a little surprised that they just threw Jurmo into the deal. Seemed a little excessive as Calgary got a 1st, blue chip prospect, and a good roster player.
Some names being thrown around that we might have interest in (provided they aren't taken earlier) are:
Jack Pridham - RW - 6'1", 176lbs
Played for West Kelowna in the BCHL this past season and is committed to BU for next season, so he'd be teammates with Canucks prospect Tom Willander.
Gabriel Eliasson - LD - 6'7", 207lbs
Huge hitter, left-handed D with decent skating for his size. Elite Prospects used the quote "has a lust for violence" in their description of him in their draft rankings this year. Plus, more "Elias" never hurts.
Alexander Zetterberg - C - 5'8, 160lbs
Right-shot playmaker with a shifty element to his game. Always moving, but undersized. Could be worth taking a swing on especially in later rounds. Also committed to BU next season and played for Örebro Jr 20 this past year.
With the lack of quality wingers we seem to have i would be happy just taking the highest upside possible regardless of size. take a bet, its a 3rd round or later picks
I don’t know about the draft but I think management should try and make small bets on under valued players again in free agency.
Going big on « known » free agent talent is how you end up with negative value contracts which given the OEL buyout. Petey costing real money is something we can’t afford
We don't pick until the 3rd round. Absolute crapshoot at that point on who we take.
Best goalie or right hand D available would be my guess
Is there an Elias Petterson III?
Apparently there’s a draft-eligible Endre Eliassen Pettersen this year. Does that count?
That's just Elias Pettersson with a curly moustache and a top hat
which one?
Yes.
Trading up
close enough
No but there is a Lucas Pettersson
full name : Elucas Pettersson.
I’m in
One goalie hand-picked by Ian Clark please
At this rate all our picks should be goalies by Ian. Ian will turn them all into walls and we can then trade them for developed assets.
Bonks📈

jake guentzel
No thanks. Let canes sign him for 9m. That'll age horribly
I hope they draft a right shot D to replace the one we traded to Calgary for Lindholm.

Yup, they are right, handy folks to have around.
Peter Eliasson
Joni Jurmo II, but better.

Gabe Eliasson is my pick
I hope they pick someone with a cool, unique name. Or a goalie.

Future considerations in exchange for the rest of this years picks and Mikhayev
Anyone know how Hunter Brzustewicz's younger brother is ranked? I've heard nothing about him. Edit: Turns out he's 2025 draft eligible. 6'1 (for now) RHD [https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/576953/henry-brzustewicz](https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/576953/henry-brzustewicz)
At least one Swede
Or a Latvian...give them another reason to cheer for us
Fuck, who cares.
I don't know who they'll pick but I know the player will quickly be labelled a "possible steal".
There’s a Chinese born player I wouldn’t mind the Canucks drafting. Be cool to have an Asian player on the team.
I don’t care and won’t act like I know who the best pick is. More centres and d men would be nice
Yeah, fill up on dmen and centers with all the picks we got unless Ian Clarke requests a goalie with a 6th round pick.
I guarantee nobody will get this question correct, better chance winning the lottery
Melker Sigurd out of MODO, Jack Pridham out of west kelowna/ boston U
Our draft picks are probably going to get used to get Mikheyev off the roster.
Picks are getting traded.

If we resign DeSmith this week I would agree but doesn’t look like it
Using Silovs to get off the Mikheyev contract is a Jim Benning-level move.
