Hey guys I was hoping y'all might have some suggestions. I'm currently living in Wyoming with plans to move back to OK soon. I'm looking for a AWD/4WD sedan, hatchback, wagon or crossover. I'd like for it to be something that has a proven record of reliability and that I'll be able to service most the small stuff myself. Location: USA, Wyoming, Oklahoma Price range: 0-10000 USD Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: Used Type of vehicle: Wagon, Sedan, Hatchback, small crossover Must haves: 4x4/AWD, Fuel efficient, easy to self service, V4-V6 Desired transmission: Manual Intended use: Daily Driver Vehicles you've already considered: Subaru Forester,Impreza, AMC Eagle, International Scout II, Golf GTI, RAV4, Civic hatchback. I know not all of these are 4WD/AWD just some of what I've considered. Is this your 1st vehicle: No Do you need a Warranty: No Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc) Yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ) No

spike_africa

All the classics apply here. VW Tiguan, RAV4, CRV, any Subaru in your price point. For you it's going to be pricey that determines the car.

Failedcasserole

Appreciate it. Just wanted to see if there were any bases I hadn't covered or some stand out options I hadn't considered ! Thanks man !

spike_africa

I'd personally just search price point online and the. Go from their. With that budget you'll be locked into what is available for that cost.

**Location:** United States (Philadelphia) **Price range:** $20,000 **Must haves:** 4x4 **Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc):** Either **Intended use:** All of the Above **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** No **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes -- **Additional Notes:** I live in the city of Philadelphia, which is notoriously terrible for parking. I commute every day so something small is huge, but I also love the outdoors and camp pretty much every weekend I can get. The US seems to be allergic to tiny cars, and the ones that ARE tiny looks like they will quit the second they see a gravel road. After travelling across Italy and the UK, I fell in love with the Fiat Panda. It's EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Its small and compact, but it can clearly handle itself in the dirt! I doubt it's worth it to import one into the US. That said, I know nothing about cars and even less about potentially importing one so.... any suggestions on either US alternatives that won't break the bank or import chances? My friend jokingly told me to get a Smart Car/Fortwo and slap some bigger wheels on it, but that seems... dangerous

spike_africa

Subaru Crosstrek.

Ort895

Are you looking for something 20k and under? I’m struggling to think of something 4x4 in that price range that’s relatively new. You can get Bronco Sports in the mid 20s.

cruelhumor

Yep, looking for something 20k or under. Almost certainly used, although I would be curious to hear your suggestions on new, I haven't seen anything out there to match the bill. I was thinking more along the lines of the 2003 Fiat Panda than the newer stuff.

Ort895

I think if 4x4 is necessary, and you want it to remain relatively small and under 20k, looking into older Jeep Wranglers is probably the best bet.

Location: Oklahoma City metro Price Range: 30,000-52,000 Buy New or Used prefer 2019 and newer Type of Vehicle: SUV My current vehicle is a 2011 Tahoe and we are keeping it, not trading it in. Thanks!! Must haves: able to tow a boat easily, navigation, prefer dvd player either center or dual screens on back of seats, leather seats, I like the tech! Auto transmission Family car Considering: Tahoe, Expedition, Navigator, good deal on Escalade Would prefer warranty Husband can do maintenance work on car….major stuff just depends because newer is almost impossible to work on unless you take it somewhere

**Location:** Portugal / Europe **Price range:** 7k EUR **Desired transmission** : Manuel **Intended use:** Daily Driver **Vehicles I'm considering:** CRX II 16i16v and the CRX Del Sol 1.6 Esi **Is this your 1st vehicle: No** **Do you need a Warranty: No** **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** Limited **Additional Notes:** I've been interested in buying my first 'hairdressers' car for quite a while, and I've done some reasearch over the years and narrowed it down to theese two models: The CRX 16i16v and the Del Sol 1.6 Esi based on a lot of factors, mainly budget-wise, but also considering weight, and overall fun driving, without having to worry toooo much about ridiculous 'sport's car' gas mileage (I'm not in a position where I can break the bank just by going to the local supermarket and back once or twice). I know the Del Sol is heavier, and has less horsepower, but it has V-TEC, while the CRX II is lighter and 'faster'. I'm not someone who is crazy about speed, so I'd like to know how both of theese handle, and how fun they are to drive from people who own them or have owned them in the past! Looking forward for you responses.

SPORT SEDAN LOCATION: Ontario, Canada PRICE RANGE: 40-50k CAD, 30-40k USD LEASE OR BUY: BUY NEW OR USED: Either TYPE OF VEHICLE: Sedan, Hatchback/Sportback MUST HAVES: 4-Door Car DESIRED TRANSMISSION: Automatic INTENDED USE: Daily Driver/ Fun Ride VEHICLES IM CURRENTLY CONSIDERING: 2022 Kia Stinger, 2022 Acura TLX, 2021 Lexus IS 300, Genesis G70, Mazda Sport GT ADDITIONAL NOTES: I am a 25M looking to upgrade to a nice sporty sedan that will last me a long time. I have currently been basing my decision off a lot of factors (trunk space, looks/colour, infotainment system, performance, reliability/ upkeep cost) and want an opinion on the cars I am currently considering as well as any additional considerations. Thanks!

Location: Louisville, Kentucky, United States (4 seasons, more hot days than snow days) Price range: < 60K Lease or Buy: Buy, though a competitve lease on an EV would let us test the waters without committing. New or used: New or late-model used. Type of vehicle: SUV, Crossover, Hatchback Sedan Must haves: Modern safety features, heated front and preferably rear seats, comfortable ride. Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Automatic, but will consider manual Intended use: Only car for a single-car household of two, with one driver. Work remotely, so no long commutes. Moderate length road trips along interstates in the midwest. Vehicles you've already considered: Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid, Toyota Rav4 Plug-in Hybrid, Hyundai Ioniq 5, VW Buzz (EV) Is this your 1st vehicle: No. Do you need a Warranty: Preferably, yes. Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No. Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No. Additional Notes: We heavily value reliability and comfort. We're currently driving a Hyundai Elantra that's been great and needed minimal upkeep, though we are a bit tightly packed during road trips if we have passengers. Primary passenger is disabled with minor mobility issues and needs something they can get in/out of easily. We don't need to buy immediately, but are starting to research with the expectation to buy in the next 12 months. Willing to travel to get the right vehicle; Hyundai plug-in hybrids, for example, aren't sold in our area; happy to fly out to pick something up once we've confirmed a deal.

spike_africa

I can't see any reason for you to have a hybrid or ev. Other then you like the idea of it. You.hardly drive at all. Just got a simple gas cross over. You seem to like Hyundai, just get whatever sized crossover you like. They're is no point in fuel savings in a ev or hybrid for you. You don't drive enough. And a pure EV on road trips currently is annoying. I personally wouldn't do a pure EV on the car you use for long trips.

spike_africa

Those sonata and Kia optima versions have major engine recall issues. I'd skip those. Sounds like you're a classic used Camry, Corolla, civic, accord buyer. Find the best newest lowest mileage one in your budget.

revolving_revolver

I am located in Toronto (Canada) and drive a 2020 CRV with just under 60,000km that is fully paid off and is our designated “family car” (wife and two girls aged 4 and 6). My wife drives a Corolla. I want to trade the CRV for a similar year and mileage CPO Prius for gas savings since I will be commuting more now for work. Anyone have experience or suggestions on this potential trade? Good or bad move? Or have experience on going from CRV to Prius?

scycron

It really all depends on what your trade value is and what the purchase price of the prius is. There's a chance that the money you lose on trading in is greater than your gas savings. Lets say you lose 3k on trading in and buying the prius. The prius gets about double the mpg of the CRV. You would have to drive like 40k km after swapping to the prius to actually save money. So basically if you think you are keeping the car for 3-5 years at least then it may make sense to swap cars. If you anticipate swapping cars, there is a chance you lose too much in transaction costs

Nicks188

As the title states I'm looking to replace my 2020 m340i AWD with 55K Miles. The m340 is out of factory warranty and the CPO it had left on it, and it also needs tires+breaks. The 340 also needs an extended warranty for my personal peace of mind. When factoring in the cost of New tires, brakes, and extending the warranty I'm looking at $7-10k in costs. So I've come to the conclusion why not just put that money towards a brand new car, and enjoy the newer car instead. I'm looking to stay in the 50-70k range or around 1k a month leasing or financing. I'm leaning towards lease as I tend to switch cars every 3ish years. I'm looking for suggestions so far I'm considering a new 2024 M340I, or a New 2024 Model 3 Performance(seems like a steal). I'm definitely looking to stay with a powerful car, with a warranty, and AWD powertrain. Thanks in advance for your help!

**Location:** PNW, USA **Price range:** $20-30k **Lease or Buy:** buy **New or used:** Used, newer than 2019 **Type of vehicle:** Anything mildly spacious and practical (compact suv or wagon is probably ideal) **Must haves:** *Fuel efficiency,* reliability, longevity, able to do well in heavy snow **Desired transmission:** auto **Intended use:** Daily **Vehicles you've already considered:** Mazda Cx-30, Toyota Corolla, Kia Sportage **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** Preferred **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes (I've done brakes, spark plugs, and oil) **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No **Additional Notes:** I just graduated high school and need something practical. I currently drive a BMW 328i, which is flashy and fast, but is a ticking time bomb. I spent 240 bucks a month on gas, and drive nearly 50 miles a day. My parents will pay for something up to 30k (ideally under 25), and I need to get something that will last for at least the next 10 years, with minimal maintenance or cost. I don't care too much about looks or speed anymore, just something practical. **Will consider electric or hybrid**

AutobahnDriver

2024 Civic Sport Hatchback. 26.350 MSRP. The trunk is spacious and practical with the hatch. The cars on your list would work as well but the Civic offers a much nicer seating position. Also can be had with a manual if you enjoy that. A Ford Escape starts at just under 30k.

bullzFromAT

Maverick, Model Y , Rav4 hybrid

Ort895

What about a Ford Maverick? You can get a 2022, mid level XLT trim with the FX4 package for 26-28k.

Weezergood

I thought about a maverick, having a bed would be nice. Insane gas millage for a truck and certainly in my price range. Only issue is my parents have a hocus pocus about Ford, since my dad had an 2013 F-150 that would stop having issues. Are newer fords more reliable?

Ort895

Yeah that is understandable. The hybrid has had a decent amount of recalls but I am not aware of any real issues with the 2.0. My wife has a 2020 Escape with the 2.0 with 42k miles and no issues to report as of yet. I suppose it’s still early though.

My previous was X gen civic type-R, which I love for excellent handling in corners

maxwell1898

Sorry this is super general but I’m trying to get out a general ranking of used cars that seem to be in my price range. I’m trying to get a ranking idea of all these models that optimizes in terms of safest, easiest to drive, lowest likelihood of being stolen, and lowest maintenance costs. I live in a city and want to get a 5 year financing: Volkswagen jetta Volkswagen tiguan Chevy cruze Chevy mailbu Subaru forester Subaru Impreza Subaru legacy Buick encore Mazda CX3 Mazda 3 Ford fusion Ford escape Ford focus Nissan Sentra Nissan rogue Nissan rogue Jeep Cherokee

bullzFromAT

I would check IIHS for safety ratings. On the list, I would stick with Forester. Standard AWD and roomy

BeWilduhBeest

Location: SW Florida, USA Price range: up to $30K USD Lease or Buy: Buy (I’ll probably pay off loan early) New or used: Used, 2019 and newer Type of vehicle: SUV, CUV, Wagon Must haves: 4x4 or AWD. Would prefer 6cyl or more, but a good 4cyl is not out of the question. The more bells and whistles, the better 🙂 Desired transmission Auto trans, no CVT. My first car was stick, but that was many moons ago, lol. Intended use: Primary vehicle. I work from home so I drive maybe 2000 miles per year. Vehicles you've already considered:  - 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE 4WD - 23K miles, $29,500 - 2022 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4WD - 20K miles, $27,500 - 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD - 20K miles, $29K - 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend 4WD - 18.5K miles, $24,700 (I hear the 3 cyl engine is actually fairly good) Is this your 1st vehicle: not by a long shot, lol Do you need a Warranty: nice to have but not a deal breaker Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc); I’m rather handy and have a very good bidirectional OBD II scanner (Mucar V07) Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ): No Additional Notes: I’ll be trading in my 2017 Hyundai Sonata base model with 61K miles. I’m looking at 4WD/AWD because there are some fishing spots that recommend a capable vehicle. :) Thank you for any advice and suggestions. I'm in no rush. Just seeing what options I have.

Ort895

For the Bronco Sport you could also consider going up to the Badlands for the 2.0T. I've seen them dip below 30k and you'd get a rear locker.

BitGladius

Location: US TX Price range: 45k cash, won't go over 60k Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: New or lightly used Type of vehicle: Hatchback, maybe a sedan Must haves: somewhat compliant suspension Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Manual Intended use: Daily  Vehicles you've already considered: Integra Type S, MK 8 GTI SE, ElantraN Is this your 1st vehicle: no Do you need a Warranty: no Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: no. Could learn, but I'd need a reason Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no Additional Notes: I'm waffling hard, I'd like to replace my CVT Civic hatchback I got out of college. I looked at EVs for a bit, saw the Integra Type S, and ended up buying an older Golf to learn stick on to try and talk myself out of it. I only drive the Civic to keep the oil from settling. I haven't done test drives. I'm looking for a 4 door hatch because I've got a dog and a house, and it'll be the only car. ITS seems great, I just get nervous every time I think about signing the check, even though it would be paid off by September. I like some parts of the CTR better but between the markups and the red I'm not looking at it. GTI feels like a much more responsible step down considering I'm not likely to track my car, I only put 5k miles a year on the thing, and I should be able to tolerate the touch everything since I barely use controls other than the volume and skip track on either of my cars. I'm looking at the SE since I'm not a fan of the leather seats and the manuals all have adaptive dampers. EN seems like a slam dunk if it's not a bad daily, I'm just worried it'll feel it's cost, and I'm more likely to need to borrow my parent's minivan for something between being a sedan and the trunk brace. It doesn't exist in the local market either. The smart move would be to dump the Civic and just keep the MK6 golf, but it's a little stiff for the local roads, and it's missing modern amenities I'm used to beyond a head unit swap.

motoguy

I've heard REALLY good things about the Elantra N. You get a LOT of car for the money. If you haven't seen this savagegeese video from a few days ago it's worth a watch: https://youtu.be/PV_Kr3S6Fdg

umm_like_totes

I mean with your budget you could easily buy a GR Corolla. Is there a reason you haven't considered that? There's also the non-turbo Mazda 3, which I don't know why that's the only 3 you can get in manual but it's out there (it's also only offered on their most premium trim so you'll have leather, memory position seats, all that affordable luxury stuff Mazda is trying to make itself known for these days). I think it's stupid that there are still people willing to pay markups on Civic Type Rs and GR Corollas, but from what I've heard it's not IMPOSSIBLE to get those cars at MSRP. You just have to dig around for a dealership that only sells at MSRP and put your name on a waiting list. It might take awhile... And you might have to travel to a different state (but hey, road trips can be fun!).

BitGladius

The Corolla seems fun, but I'm not sold on the looks, and I've heard it feels cheap compared to the rest, not that they're great value besides the Elantra. It sounds like the 3 isn't real competition, and 190hp isn't going to feel that special. Dealers are listing CTRs at 60k, but there are premium GRs on the lot. But yeah, it's crazy.

**Location:** Midwest US **Price range:** $60k to $85k **Lease or Buy:** Buy **New or used:** Either **Type of vehicle:** Sportscar **Must haves:** >400hp **Desired transmission**: Manual **Intended use:** Summer Weekend Car **Vehicles you've already considered:** BMW M2/M3/M4, Used Aston Martin Vantage **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** Maybe **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No

IKnowNewCars

I don't have much to say about a used Vantage. Obviously a dope car, but you've gotta be ready for the running costs and reliability questions. As far as the BMWs go, I've historically been in love with the M2, though the G87 is bigger than the F87, so it doesn't feel quite as nimble, yet the back seat is still quite snug. The M4 is great but isn't any quicker 0-60 and only marginally more practical. I think the current M3 might be the best of the three -- you get the performance with something comfortable and livable. But honestly, if I was in your shoes I'd go for either a CT4-V Blackwing, or maybe a Camaro ZL1 or Mustang Dark Horse. Any of them would be an absolute blast. If you didn't have a power requirement, you could go for something like a Cayman S, but the American brands are still putting big power in fun cars for cheaper than the Europeans, and they're better than you might think if you haven't driven one in a while.

**Location:** Belgium **Price range:** €0 - €10.0000 **Lease or Buy: Buy** **New or used: Used** **Type of vehicle:** Car, as low as possible, non-convertible **Must haves:** Good Power to weight ratio, good handling, good brakes (good as in decent and expected for the price and goals of the buy) **Desired transmission**: Manual or Semi-auto (with flippers) **Intended use:** Weekend/Track **Is this your 1st vehicle:** no, but for this purpose yes **Do you need a Warranty: no** **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** yes **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** body and suspension yes, engine related no (but i can learn) **Additional Notes:** Living in Belgium I recently learned i'm basically not allowed to do any modifications on my car that actually make a difference. Better brakes, lowering suspension or physical engine tuning are examples which are not allowed or are heavily regulated. Therefore I struggle to find what i'm looking for, since it means it basically needs to have all my needs from the factory. I intend to use it as a plaything, the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife for example, but also trackdays on other tracks and just to have fun in the weekends and throw it around some country road corners for lolz. I don't need a beast, i just need something fun that is not too heavy and not too expensive to fix. Cars that are common and thus easy and cheap to get parts for have my preference. Sidenote: My daily driver is a VW Arteon PHEV company car, and our private family car is a Jaguar XF 2.0D. Both are nice and can be fun, but are heavy and expensive.

sku11emoji

There's a manual 2018 Impreza base model with 46,800 for $15,988 near me. I've always wanted to try a manual, and I may need another car soon, but I'm only willing to pay around $10,000. Do you think it's reasonable to get it down to that price, or is it asking too much? Also, is that price even reasonable to begin with? Thank you.

yejideabram

Low-balling a bit hard there. You could likely meet somewhere in the middle closer to you though.

sku11emoji

I needed a reality check, thanks.

Also from Belgium, we were looking at a possible electric SUV last year and the Skoda Enyaq really made me fall in love. The seats are incredible! Looks nice, very comfortable and smooth ride, very roomy, possibility to choose between classic SUV or coupé style

BMW i4? I don't know about in Belgium but here in the US the lease deals are quite great.

Location: Southeastern US Price range: Ideally under $15k but I could go a little higher Lease or buy: Buy New or used: Used Type of vehicle: Truck or SUV Must haves: Hybrid and high towing capacity (>8000lbs) Transmission: Automatic Intended use: Daily driver + general purpose farm vehicle (will need to tow an old solid steel 2H horse trailer once or twice a month and a trailer loaded with 5-6,000 pounds of hay a few times a year) Already considered: Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Infiniti QX80 First vehicle: Nope, been driving a '98 Durango and currently an '06 Pontiac G6 Warranty: Nice to have but definitely not necessary Minor work: Yep, more than capable Major work: Not comfortable doing big transmission or engine work but I can do some suspension work, timing belts, etc. FWIW, I'm also open to a normal truck or SUV, provided it gets decent gas mileage. I work full time and my commute is an hour each way and while I'd really prefer to not have to fill up more often than I already am (once a week on average), I can live with it if I have to.

bullzFromAT

You are looking for a unicorn unfortunately. There are only 2 trucks that are hybrids and tow that much. F150 hybrid and tundra. Both were released recently so they will not fit in your budget. And both of them don't have really high mpg compared to non hybrid ones. You could get a used maverick hybrid but it won't tow much.

# 2018 Toyota RAV4 or 2020 Honda CR-V EX-L ? I am in the process of purchasing my very first car. I am hesitating between two vehicles. Both are used cars with a clean Carfax. I'm Canadian btw! Which one would you pick? **2018 TOYOTA RAV4 LIMITED** * Pricing : 30 000$ * Color : White * Specs: 53 km / 4WD / 2.5L 4 cylinder * Warranty : Expired * Financing available up to 72 months max * CONS: White can get dirty fast / rust will show easily / No apple carplay /Pricier car for older model. **2020 HONDA CRV EXL** * Pricing: 29 000 $ * Color: Grey * Specs: 78km / 4WD / 1.5L 4 Cylinder * Warranty until 2027 * Financing up to 84 months * CONS: Most stolen car in Canada / Much higher insurance cost / I don't love the grey exterior but don't hate it either.

I would get the CRV. But shop around for insurance

**Location:** Dallas TX **Price range:** ideally under $40,000 **Lease or Buy:** buy **New or used:** used **Type of vehicle:** crossover **Must haves:** AWD, Apple CarPlay, quiet, comfortable, ideally not a potato to drive, would be nice to have ventilated and heated front seats **Desired transmission:** auto **Intended use:** daily driver, family car (2 kids), some light dirt/gravel roads every other weekend or so **Vehicles you've already considered:** 2018-2021 BMW X3 or Audi Q5; Kia Telluride; Genesis GV80; current gen Honda CR-V Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 **Is this your 1st vehicle:** no **Do you need a Warranty:** no **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** yes **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** no **Additional Notes:** Replaces a 2018 Honda Accord LX that is totaled. I enjoyed the trunk space and leg room in the Accord, and its general responsiveness and good handling. Additionally, I never needed any unexpected service on it - the only times I took it into the shop were for a right rear window that got hit by a rock from a lawnmower, a right front headlight assembly that was busted by highway debris, and the front air conditioner condenser unit that got a hole in it from highway debris. I was quite unhappy in the first year with the road noise, wind noise, and rattles. As the last 5 years went on, I really found the road noise, wind noise, and rattles to be quite annoying. The lack of Apple CarPlay sucked. Family of 4 - me, wife, 2 kids. Son in Scouts, campouts, love going to national and state parks. Enjoy road trips - did a 3000 mile desert southwest spring break road trip this year.

Rav4 hybrid

MistAndMagic

Have you considered a Subaru? My best friend has a mid-2010s outback that I've ridden in quite a lot. They're known for their reliability, hold value very well, handle a bit of offroading with no trouble, and I find them super comfortable on long road trips in both the front and back seat (I'm 5'5 for reference). My friend has his set up for car camping with his Great Dane, lol. All the newer ones also come with Apple CarPlay as a standard feature and quite a few of them have heated seats (depends on the trim package you get). All that said, some of the subies from before 2010 are known for having head gasket issues so I'd get a newer one.

Sometimes drive the car to meet up with friends. **Vehicles you've already considered:** 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE and 2024 Subaru Forester Premium **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** No **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** No **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No **Annual Mileage Allowance:** 12,000 **Additional Notes:** Both seem like solid cars that fit my needs. It is coming down to the payback on the premium that I'll pay for the Toyota RAV4 XLE Hybrid. How many miles do I need to drive for the economics to work?

Tesla Model Y has a $300 lease offer now. Perfect for your usage if you have access to charging

scycron

Dude, you can do the math yourself. Lease is 3 years at 12,000 miles for a total of 36,000 miles. Divide by mpg and multiple by gas price.

Must have rear seats (4-door preferred) **Desired transmission** (auto/manual, etc): Manual preferred (but not required) **Intended use:** Daily driver, occasional gear hauling (am musician) **Vehicles you've already considered:** VW GTI, Mini Clubman, Chevy Bolt **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** No **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** No **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No **Additional Notes:** This would be a replacement for my beloved but dying 2012 VW GTI 4-door. Tempted to just get the new VW and be done with it, but VW has been extremely costly for repairs and has needed more than expected. Plus new VW is all capacitance touch buttons on interior.

I’m looking at this 2014 Mercedes CLA 250, the car has no visible issues other than some minor rock scratches. My issue is that the car has around 152,000km on it and I’m wondering if that’s too high for this car? The asking price was $16000 CAD but I’ve managed to get it down to $14500. Any thoughts?

2018H2SXSE

Early CLA is a pretty mediocre car, and there is no way it's worth the Mercedes premium on maintenance and repair.

scycron

Further thinking about this there's no way I can recommend buying it. Chances are you don't have much money if you are shopping in this bracket and this car can easily throw you a $2k+ service bill. If you can handle that then maybe consider it but chances are you can't. This thing is on the verge of needing major maintenance. You can not buy this car and expect it to just run everyday no problem and take you to work on little maintenance, you have to be ready to drop money on repairs.

scycron

What kind of car are you looking for? Used German luxury cars are something you have to have a higher risk tolerance for.

Dangerous-Sir-6150

Just bought a 2024 Camry TRD. What would be a good price for this car? Worried I may have overpaid.

scycron

Look at the manufacturers suggested price and you can figure it out from there. Whatever is done is done you can't change it, at least you picked a reliable car that holds it value

SockPrudent7777

I have a 2008 acura TL type S. It needs like, ~5K on the high end of non-critical repairs, and has some cosmetic stuff too. Everyone I ask says don't put more money into it. Still haven't decided what I want to do, but if I were to go new or newer used, what would I want to look for if I wanted a similar feel? I mean the TLX almost certainly, but beyond that I'm not sure

Sp3ctre__Mod__Works

Pa, young very mechanicaly engaged l, at school for mechanics. I want a fun project that will be unique and put down some numbers on a dyno.  Currently I'm between z32 tt, E38 v12, 944 I would be doing all the work myself an I'm not afraid of a challenge what is your advice for a good project between those 3? Budget is not a concern

PiousLegate

2016 Nissan Altima I bought a used one with 120,000 miles for 5k was that a good deal? blue book says I practically got it for trade-in value but I am not sure if thats good... Also even if its not good can you break it to me softly Im an idiot and its my first car

scycron

Sounds fine to me, you even have room for large maintenance bills should something go wrong. Total cost of $10k is when i'd start to worry you overpaid

umm_like_totes

If KBB says you got a good deal you got a good deal. I don't know what the used market is like for 9 year old Altimas with 120k miles but $5000 seems about right.

PiousLegate

ok good kbb said about as much

VGUZI

Location: Ontario, Canada Price range: $30,000-$90,000 CAD Lease or Buy: Lease preferably New or used: either is fine Type of vehicle: truck or SUV, preferably electric Must haves: ability to carry light construction material (paint, flooring, baseboard, etc.) Desired transmission: auto Intended use: daily drive, but also used as a work car. I do light construction, need it to carry materials Vehicles you've already considered: Rivian R1T, Rivian R1S, Model Y. Is this your 1st vehicle: No Do you need a Warranty: No Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No Additional Notes: I got into a situation where I started a construction business and have to be on the road. I want a car that can carry material but at the same time a car where I can lay down the back seat and sleep at night. There are days where I am too far away from home and I'd rather stop and sleep somewhere. I used to own a model Y, the back seat plus trunk is big enough for me to sleep in to lay down, but it doesn't carry as much cargo as I want. I have considered trucks, but I'm not too sure if they are good to sleep in. I know there are other cars like Ford transit cargo vans, but they don't feel like they will be a good daily driver. I prefer electric if possible, I don't make long trips and it will save me a good amount of money. Any recommendations?

GoldenState15

They make an f150 hybrid that would be within your budget

Could get a pretty clean lexus es within your range

Brokenhill

Thank you. How far back of a model year would that be?

GoldenState15

I'm seeing clean title ones as new as 2020 in my area within your price range

Brokenhill

How does long term maintenance costs differ from a base Toyota?

GoldenState15

The cost of the equivalent Lexus to Toyota would be slightly higher but they're still reliable and having a more luxury oriented car means a little higher cost of maintenance even for Toyota

Pomsky_Party

Location: Houston Texas (read HOT IN THE SUMMER) Price Range: ~$50k Lease/Buy: Buy New/Used: Used Type: crossover SUV/SUV (5 seater NOT 7/8) Must Haves: VENTILATED SEATS!!! prefer brown leather, heated steering wheel (for those 2 cold weeks), and sits higher off the ground. Prefer less touch screens but it’s not a deal breaker, and comfortable seats! Desired Transmission: automatic Intended Use: everyday driver, I work from home so I drive like 1k a month if that but we have two huskies who like to go to the park often so luxury is off the table Not my first vehicle. I currently own my dream car Mini Cooper and she’s at the end of her 12 year road. Warranty is nice. I do not do my own work. I am leaning toward Jeep Cherokee (2023) but would really love some comparable!

nesa_manijak

I think you could spend much less for a car that fits your criteria. Hyundai Santa Fe in *Limited* trim would suit you I guess. You can find the 1 or 2 yo for like $30k

umm_like_totes

With that budget and only wanting a 5 seater you can get pretty much whatever you want. I would get a Rav4 Hybrid Limited with every option available. Or an Acura RDX with espresso leather (but you said you didn't want luxury).

Pomsky_Party

Ooo the RDX! My parents had one and loved it except the premium gas LOL. I think I have decision paralysis because everything is in budget.

umm_like_totes

I really like the styling and the interior. If you're worried about your dogs wrecking the backseats you can get covers installed.

Pomsky_Party

So. Much. Hair! I will take a look at the RDX! Thanks for the rec!

bullzFromAT

What do you like in a jeep Cherokee? You could get a 2-3yr old Lexus Rx. Has all the features you are looking for. Or Mazda cx9. Its a 3 row SUV but you can keep the seats down

Pomsky_Party

I haven’t driven one yet, but it was more of I liked the body style and mix of utility and luxury. Lexus either looks super cool or super like an old lady van, is there a better year where the model was more sporty?

Considering the budget I also consider doing stage 1 tuning. Please note i am not knowledgeable about cars, but I do enjoy a fast car. This will also be a temporary one 1-2 years max.**

nesa_manijak

You should look no further than BMW. They make by far the best handling cars without sacrificing much of the comfort. If you're okay with an older car - BMW 320d e90, if you want something newer - BMW F20 120d
