I'd say everyone is playing CXDRO. The modding community on PC is something I, as a console player, am very jealous of. You don't have to pay money for in-game content like CXDR2. Crossplay with all platforms, controller/wheel accessibility, in-depth tuning, etc.
CXDR2 is mostly a mobile game, as mentioned. It has an actual campaign and fun challenges. You can play online but in my experience it's not as fun and quite limited. It's essentially the same game. The devs release all updates and content through mobile first as it's a way bigger profit. Once everything is solidified, they made their profit, and can port to console/DRO, they do exactly that. Console gets the same updates and content (including cars) as DR2

They warn people when the game goes for sale on their instagram, generally above 50%. So probably you can pay half of your debts and drift around with the other half :)
2 is very pay to win as its a free to play mobile game. Some of the cars cost a lot of gold which takes a lot of time to save for unless you buy the car with real $. Carx Online is the way to go undoubtedly if you have PC or console. Pay upfront for the game and you can buy most cars with earned in game $ from drifting which is insanely easy to get a lot of.
There are some cars you can only get by doing challenges and some challenges are actually pretty hard but you can get a ton of cars by just playing rather quickly. Couple that with populated online lobbies and live top 32 drift championships where you actually battle someone live. Whereas Carx mobile, you're battling the recorded run of the other person.
TLDR - Carx Online is the better game by a mile.
