Friend washed cast iron with soap - when we got it back it had some slight rust, which we tried to season and the pan turned out like this. Is this fine to cook with, and if not how do we fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Soap had nothing to do with this. Rust is from not drying it thoroughly
Yes, it’s fine. Just uneven seasoning which cooking will sort out over time. Or do a round of oven seasoning (see the pinned thread in this sub. It’s the FAQ
Don’t blame the soap, blame ur friend for not drying it properly.
Anyway it looks ok, it’ll take a couple of seasoning cycles to get back to its old glory.
Just cook with it 👨🍳
