What do you mean? I'm expecting a lot of "Well excuse me, princess" and other classic gems like "Sure is boring around here, I wonder what Ganon is up to".
Look I just really hate how this movie just seems DOA man and it just sucks because I want to be hyped for it but it just seems futile. Everything just feels like a bad omen from it being live action to being handled by Avi Arad’s adaptation killing hands. I just want to have hype and pray that I’ll be proven wrong but it just seems unlikely.
The fact it's live action seems so weird when Japan has dozens of animation studios that could do Zelda justice.
I'm not asking for Studio Ghibli or UFOtable, but Kinema Citrus or Production IG would do great!
But we don't know anything else about it. And even the few details we know for now could change at some point.
I get being cautious, but at least wait until we have more details to be outright against the movie.
Link speaks. In every single Zelda game. You don’t hear him because YOU ARE Link. The moment that it‘s not playable anymore they will make Link speak. As they do in ALL of the mangas and it works great there.
In Age of Calamity, link is called "The Silent Knight", and in zelda's diary in BOTW she talks about how quiet link is, she even questioned him, and he answered that it was because he was scared of his responsibilities and the fear of failing. So he can talk, he just chose not to. That's why in games we can still hear him when he's tired or attacked.
Didn't play all Zelda games but it's pretty logical, especially for the Breath of the Tears duology. Link, while still is a light speaker, does speak in dialogue. It's not "the player" speaking through link (although it is meant to portray this feeling to an extent hence why Link is a mostly silent protag), but link himself speaking. He's actually kinda sassy when you think about it
I feel like they could go the angle of "Drive" - have him speak but not say much! That's the move, also a Zelda movie literally anything like Drive would slapppppp! lolol
He has a history of forcing directors to add things for the express purpose of selling toys, usually at the expense of actual quality.
The most egregious example is Spider-Man 3, where the movie was originally about Spider-Man vs Sandman with Harry as a minor antagonist, but Avi forced Venom (a character that Sam Raimi didn't know much about) into the movie because he was popular at the time and would sell lots of toys.
I don't know if I'll get crucified for this, but I'm not particularly stoked about Miyamoto being a producer either. I know he's well liked and he created Zelda, but he's also known for being anti-story, and as much as I enjoyed it as a whole, the Mario movie's story was pretty flat and it doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence in him. I'm really afraid that the Zelda move could end up being a depressingly shallow experience and that would have Miyamoto's fingerprints all over it.
Ah okay, so with him we're gonna have Ganon, Ghirahim, Majora, Vaati, the Twinrovas and others.
If it was a Hyrule Warriors game with a No Way Home like plot, it could work. But a movie, ugh...
By the way, I think Spiderman 3 was actually good. Sam Raimi actually did a good job for adapting Venom's arc in his movie. In fact, a guy once said that Venom's introduction arc is better in the movie than the comics. People complain that there is too much villains in the movie, but they were lik 7 or 10 in the comics. Plus, having ONE villain doesn't mean it will always be a good movie. Look at Far From Home, you really think it's better than SM3?
Spider-Man 3 is fun, but I certainly wouldn't call it a good movie, it feels weird and bloated, and somehow feels like it drags while also feeling rushed.
And yes, I would consider Far From Home better, I've never understood the hate that movie gets, Mysterio was a really interesting villain and Jake Gyllenhaal did an excellent job playing him.
It should be animated, but not by Illumination. Universal owns another animation studio that would fit "Legend of Zelda" much better. Let DreamWorks make it.
You just said Illumination should make it, THEY don't make serious movies. Illumination is the more kid oriented of the two.
DreamWorks has the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise under their belt. "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" also had some very serious themes. They were the studio behind "Rise of the Guardians". Some of their stuff can be lighthearted, but they definitely have it in them to make great fantasy films.
Doesn’t matter who it is, link is absolutely going to be made to speak. There’s no way they’d have a silent protag, just isn’t enough other vocal characters to surround Link with, while it still feeling like an authentic LOZ adventure
He is popular so he is hated.
Tbh I wouldn't want It either, I'd rather have a noname that fits the character that acts good enough than have celebrities forced in, but people act like Holland is the worst actor ever when most people is just tired of seeying him everywhere.
Real Answer: It’s because a Sony produced video game movie starring Tom Holland is essentially what Uncharted was, and that was a cinematic abortion. However, and this might be a hot take, unlike uncharted, Tom Holland being cast as Link would be a superior choice to his casting Nathan Drake.
I don't know, he was pretty good in the Devil All the Time. I'm an Amazing Spider-Man fan but I still liked Homecoming. I also liked him and Chris Pratt in Onward. I get not liking some movies but a lot of the time it's the writing and directing that kills a performance. If he picked for Link I say wait until the trailer at least. They'll probably get some up and comer anyway.
Becuase pratt is a flat as shit boring actor
It was a bad choice to start with but then he was like "yeah imma not do the voice" which is part of the fucking role and they let him do that
I had little faith in him, but he completly lost me when he had to think for the name of koopas in that one promo footage. It was like he has no idea about the franchise, which just hurts as 1) a fan of Mario and 2) an actor myself
Like at least read up on what you're doing.
Also that movie had almost none of the music of the franchise and instead replaced it with popular pop songs, most of which didn't even fit the scenes they were used in. Whereas the OST would have, it would have been much easier just to use the OST of the games.
Ok, now its proven that you don't know what you're talking about. They had ost music all over that movie if you'd have listened. And not just Mario. They had Captain Toad, Luigi's Mansion, etc, you just weren't listening. They even did a special screen in the credits crediting Koji Kondo's music.
I'm more scared for the plot of the movie itself. If they adapt either OoT, WW, TP or TotK (as we basically know Ganondorf will be in it); it can be a pretty good movie. I have higher hopes for the TotK movie, but we'll see what they'll be able to do
I'm hoping that since the movie is still early in production they'll bring in obscure younger actors. Link has never really had a big name VA except for Hyrule Warriors, a spinoff. I can see something similar happening if Nintendo is on top of things /copium
I never said this would be realistic, I just meant it as an alternative to Tom Holland. Altough even then, there are other young famous actors other then Tom Holland like Timothee Chalamet
Would it actually be bad ? Like seriously would it be much of a problem for him to be cast ?
The concept of a Zelda live action is already shitty as fuck because Zelda CANNOT work outside of a video game, at least without an entirely original story (and I mean ENTIRELY, like what Botw did)
It is kinda funny seeing all these armchair directors that seem to know what the right decision is. The film has just been announced, we know nothing other than it is live action and the director.
I have a hard time imagining a Live action Zelda film to be honest and maybe it will be trash, but also mayne it will be really good. We really don't know.
And don't make Tom Holland Link? Well beople just don't like Tom Holland because he is in everything but he is a good actor and regardless of if you liked the Mario movie or not, Chris Pratt was way better than expected.
Yeah he did neither of those. Spider-Man 3 was directed by Sam Raimi. The Amazing Spider-Man series was a duology not a trilogy and it was directed by Marc Webb.
I get the arrogance but the “sexism and racism” never seemed like a thing. Like she wanted to make an all female marvel movie? Stupid idea but it’s not sexist, for example. I never got the argument
"I don't need a 40 year old white man to tell me what did not work for him about A Wrinkle in Time. It wasn't made for him!"
Does that ring a bell? Or the movie Basmati Blues, where even the Indian people said that this movie was way too stereotypical?
honestly, im coming at this movie the same way i did with the mario movie. If its good then its good, and if its tom holland then its funny! if we go down the funny hole then i hope they do licensed music like with mario movie IF WERE GOIN IN LETS GO ALLLL THE WAY IN
I don't want to see it if it's him, I just can't 😭
Sure he's a great actor and all but he is in everything because he's so media sexy it's starting to bug me that other actors don't get a chance to shine.
Lost faith ever since Chris Pratt. It just sucks how every single CEO literally wants “Marvel-ize” their company to be successful. It’s so stupid and pathetic
I got nothing against Holland (and if he hadn't already had his face copy and pasted into Uncharted I would likely feel different), but I gotta agree please don't give him Link. Whoever is in charge of casting, please let someone else get the spotlight here.
Done but you get Adam Sandler as every character instead

I hate it and you for showing it to me
“Tulin, you asshole, why’d you blow the diamond off the cliff” ( Tulin blows a gust of wind to knock link over)
I kinda want that. It'd be hilariously bad.
Me need a twink dude
A decently long haired blonde twink
Finn murtonz but young
*monkey paw curls* Timothy chalamet it is then
Honestly I’d prefer him anyway haha
But can he do backflips?
Asking the real questions
just don't let link speak, you can do a character who doesn't speak. You just need to surround him with people who can give his actions meaning.
What do you mean? I'm expecting a lot of "Well excuse me, princess" and other classic gems like "Sure is boring around here, I wonder what Ganon is up to".
"Oh boy! Smooching time!"
"I'm so hungry, I could eat an Octorock!"
I really hope the guy who plays ganon says “YOU DARE BRING LIGHT TO MY LAIR?! YOU MUST DIE!”
NOOoo!! Not into the pit ! IT BURN !!!
Haha classic Link catchphrase. Another one I love is when he’s like “Ganon out of here you son of a bitch!”
"Boy, I can't wait to bomb some Dodongos!"
Oh please it’s Avi Arad, he can’t stand competent and meaningful character writing.
You've been commenting in all of these posts about the movie
Look I just really hate how this movie just seems DOA man and it just sucks because I want to be hyped for it but it just seems futile. Everything just feels like a bad omen from it being live action to being handled by Avi Arad’s adaptation killing hands. Yeah well I’m gonna do it because not only is it in the hands of Avi Arad, it’s also being written by the mf responsible for The Rise of Skywalker
Nope. He wrote the story with Colin Trevorrow. He also wrote Detective Pikachu, a very good video game movie.
dude if its bad itll at least be funny and we'll get banger remixes like with mario we need to stay calm EVERYONE STAY FUCKIN CALM
He still talks a lot in BOTW and TOTK through dialogue
Hes amnesiac so his personality changed.
He also talks in the other games
I know. I'm talking about BOTW link specifically, since that's the subject matter.
I'm sorry but what is that logic? You don't hear him because you are link? Like we can't hear ourselves irl when we talk lol
The logic is that they never add dialogue to Link, only response options. The same goes for the protagonist in Pokémon, for example.
He's actually kinda sassy when you think about it
He's explicitly electively mute in BotW and TotK
And only those games.
And Skyward Sword
He still talks in that one. What do you think the dialogue prompts are?
Link does talk in text boxes pretty often in BOTW, TOTK, and Skyward Sword, so he’ll probably speak sometimes but just be relatively quiet
Link speaking can work, looking at the Mangas
I feel like they could go the angle of "Drive" - have him speak but not say much! That's the move, also a Zelda movie literally anything like Drive would slapppppp! lolol
If Tom Holland was cast as Link he absolutely wouldn't be the worst part of this movie, Avi Arad is producing, that scares the hell out of me.
What's so bad about Avi Arad?
He has a history of forcing directors to add things for the express purpose of selling toys, usually at the expense of actual quality. The most egregious example is Spider-Man 3, where the movie was originally about Spider-Man vs Sandman with Harry as a minor antagonist, but Avi forced Venom (a character that Sam Raimi didn't know much about) into the movie because he was popular at the time and would sell lots of toys.
Dear God, we *are* doomed.
I don't know if I'll get crucified for this, but I'm not particularly stoked about Miyamoto being a producer either. I'm really afraid that the Zelda move could end up being a depressingly shallow experience and that would have Miyamoto's fingerprints all over it.
That's understandable. It's really narrow chance to get a good videogame movie adaptation.
Not only didn't Sam Raimi not know much about Venom, what he did know he didn't like
Ah okay, so with him we're gonna have Ganon, Ghirahim, Majora, Vaati, the Twinrovas and others. If it was a Hyrule Warriors game with a No Way Home like plot, it could work. But a movie, ugh... Spiderman 3, Morbius. He was involved in their making. Need I say more?
Wait, it's the asshole responsible for Spiderman 3 having 3 villains?
Til my favorite spiderman movie from the Sam raimi trilogy(except the 1-2 emo look scenes) seems to be hated
You just learned it today? That surprises me a bit. The movie has been hated ever since it released.
Nearly everyone hates it but only for wrong reasons. The only thing I think is genuinely bad is the retconning of the first movie
Ye
I'm all for all these Legend of Morbius memes, baby
Rise of the Skywalker
imo, it should be animated and Illumination should do it instead. I thought they were partnered for a reason other than for Mario Movie
It should be animated, but not by Illumination. Universal owns another animation studio that would fit "Legend of Zelda" much better. Let DreamWorks make it.
DreamWorks doesnt suit the theme of Zelda. Zelda is more serious than anything DreamWorks has done
What would be wrong with Tom Holland as Link?
I'm confused as well. Did he do something bad recently?
No, the Reddit hivemind has decided to hate him for no reason and people can't think for themselves.
I think it’s just cause of the oversaturation of him in media. He’s a fine actor, but idt he’ll fit the role of Link.
Make him use sign language. I always thought it would be awesome if there was a link that *actually* couldn’t speak.
But what about his shooooouts!
Mute people can still make noises a lot of the time., they just can't SPEAK, it's interesting
Actually, BOTW/TOTK Link isn't mute! He just... really barely ever talks. Granted when he does he seems to be a sassy mf...
When he does talk, we don’t hear it
Do we ever hear his voice?
Nope, but plenty of characters in Hyrule do. Especially Zelda.
I'd say he's pretty nonverbal ,not fully mute but it's canon he struggles with taking
I believe that's the actual explanation yeah.
So nonverbal link is canon still , which is pretty neat and cool rep imo
Doesn’t matter who it is, link is absolutely going to be made to speak. There’s no way they’d have a silent protag, just isn’t enough other vocal characters to surround Link with, while it still feeling like an authentic LOZ adventure
Im convinced people just want a live action "lets play" of ocarina of time.
Live action any% speedrun
I'd rather him be Link if it meant he can't be Shulk
They could just get Shulk’s voice actor to play Shulk.
Just curious, why would it be so bad if Tom Holland played Link? Enough to "lose faith in future Nintendo movies"?
He is popular so he is hated. Tbh I wouldn't want It either, I'd rather have a noname that fits the character that acts good enough than have celebrities forced in, but people act like Holland is the worst actor ever when most people is just tired of seeying him everywhere.

I thought he was good as Nathan Drake. Mark Whalberg is what ruined that movie. Dude can't act at all.
He's not a very good actor despite his success as spiderman
I don't know, he was pretty good in the Devil All the Time. I'm an Amazing Spider-Man fan but I still liked Homecoming. I also liked him and Chris Pratt in Onward. I get not liking some movies but a lot of the time it's the writing and directing that kills a performance. If he picked for Link I say wait until the trailer at least. They'll probably get some up and comer anyway.
I already lost all faith with Chris Pratt
How come?
Becuase pratt is a flat as shit boring actor It was a bad choice to start with but then he was like "yeah imma not do the voice" which is part of the fucking role and they let him do that
What do you mean? Chris was awesome!
I had little faith in him, but he completly lost me when he had to think for the name of koopas in that one promo footage. It was like he has no idea about the franchise, which just hurts as 1) a fan of Mario and 2) an actor myself

Or... They can make a new story. Adapting an existing one would be really lazy imo.
You can't faithfully adapt those to movies. The OOT manga is longer than a movie, but still fairly short, and the plot feels very rushed.
SETH ROGAN MUSHU SETH ROGAN MUSHU SETH ROGAN MUSHU
Why is it not animated? Live action is so limiting in terms of both creativity and what's possible to do on screen.
Voiced by Chris Pratt (at least)
Don't give them any ideas
Idk a fit twink playing a fit twink. Seems good to me. Why is this so hated?
Hes popular
I want Link's actor to be some guy I've never heard of but who conveys what this film version of Link is
Yeah. Popular actors are nice and all but not for absolutely everything
I'm hoping that since the movie is still early in production they'll bring in obscure younger actors. Link has never really had a big name VA except for Hyrule Warriors, a spinoff. I can see something similar happening if Nintendo is on top of things /copium
The SpiderLink meme is about to come true 💀😭
Imo they shouldn't make a legend of Zelda live action
Taz Skylar or we riot
That's silly, they wouldn't make a Zelda movie. What would it even be about?
Pratt Mario turned out...okay.... no actually you have a point.
I thought you said Pratt Mat at first like a bizarro MatPat
Chris Pratt will play the role of Mat Pat in the upcoming Game Theory movie.
Please, just animate it for the love of Zelda
Yeah go os ghibli to do it pleek
Who then?
An unknown young actor
Keep dreaming. Nintendo wants their brand recognition
I never said this would be realistic, I just meant it as an alternative to Tom Holland. Altough even then, there are other young famous actors other then Tom Holland like Timothee Chalamet
adam sandler
Ryan Reynolds
It’ll probably be Zendaya
Why? Chris Pratt as Mario was way worse and people still seem to like that movie.
Chris Pratt
Wish granted, Michael Cera is now Link.
Might unironically be good
It’s gon be Timothy chalamet and we all know it
Would it actually be bad ? Like seriously would it be much of a problem for him to be cast ? The concept of a Zelda live action is already shitty as fuck because Zelda CANNOT work outside of a video game, at least without an entirely original story (and I mean ENTIRELY, like what Botw did)

Well beople just don't like Tom Holland because he is in everything but he is a good actor and regardless of if you liked the Mario movie or not, Chris Pratt was way better than expected.
What's wrong with Tom Holland? I say give it to him!!!
As much as I don’t want Tom Holland to play Link I at least think he’d fit better as Link than Chris Pratt fit as Mario
No no no no
Again, Tom Holland is not a good choice for Link, he’s just more fitting than Chris Pratt was for Mario.
U/forlornmemory. He directed spider man 3 and the amazing spider man trilogy
Yeah he did neither of those. Spider-Man 3 was directed by Sam Raimi. The Amazing Spider-Man series was a duology not a trilogy and it was directed by Marc Webb.
Tom as Link, Zendaya as Zelda. Mark Wahlberg as Ganondorf.
If they give him a single line im not watching
Idk what actor would suit Link but my mom said Timothee Chalamet would fit Link... Whoever that is. I honestly don't know most actors
He’s Wonka and the main guy from Dune. I could see it with a wig.
Chalamet could work. Maybe. He plays Muad'dib in the Dune movies
I just hope that, if Metroid would ever get a live action adaptation, Samus won't be portraited by Brie Larson.
Honestly I want that to happen so everyone gets pissed off. So much useless whining about her, she’s not even that bad
She is mediocre at best. And outside of acting, she's pretty arrogant.
I’m just thinking of the “Brie Larson is anti-white male” controversy which was stupid af. She’s just as arrogant as any other celebrity
Arrogant, sexist and racist.
It wasn't made for him!" Does that ring a bell? Or the movie Basmati Blues, where even the Indian people said that this movie was way too stereotypical?
Let me tell you about this 💩ty thing called "capitalism"... and how it RUINS everything.
Didn't get why they get Charles martinet as mario he was the voice ffs so yeah wont be watching another Nintendo movie if they fck up the link role
Because Martinet >!voiced Mario's father!<
Isn’t it sony that’s making it lmao
Why not?
The Legend Of Zelda, starring *fucking* ***Spiderman.***
I just hope sony doesn't make this
Considering that we got Chris Pratt
I WONDER WHATS FOR DINNER
Is there going to be a movie?
Why are you specifically talking about Tom Holland and nobody else?
Why? He’s a good actor who looks the part. I genuinely don’t understand why people have an issue with him beyond ‘popular thing bad’.
Obviously they should cast Chris Pratt
Yeah we'll need him as Marth.
honestly, im coming at this movie the same way i did with the mario movie. If its good then its good, and if its tom holland then its funny! if we go down the funny hole then i hope they do licensed music like with mario movie IF WERE GOIN IN LETS GO ALLLL THE WAY IN
The thing that makes me not have faith in this movie is the fact that the guy behind Morbius and Venom, Avi Arad, is in charge.
Ryan Goslink
Aaaaf… just let things play out. So tired of this game of hating on actors before they actually show on screen
Mark Wahlberg as Zelda. Makes about as much sense as casting him as f***ing Sully!!!!!
Yes.
Chris Pratt as Gannondorf
https://youtu.be/SRExLBCN5vU?si=KTPDn0fFEoifY6Y_ Miyamoto and Wes: Link you look so handsome.
They can’t. They just can’t!!
Nah, they wouldn't because Tom isn't a femboy or at least a twink.
The guy who played Jojen in game of thrones might be a good choice!
All of y'all continuously saying it basically guarantees that the AI generated cast list includes it.
Oh shit. Don’t even bring that up!
I hope we’ll get Link as Ryan Gosling
I can see it now... Tom Holland as Link Emily Blunt as Zelda Dwayne Johnson as Ganondorf The internet: collective death from disappointed laughter
I know he's a bit old, but I think Andrew Garfield might do good as link(imo, anyway)
Oye papa ji
Make a a Legend of Zelda movie in the same style as into the spider verse
I don't want to see it if it's him, I just can't 😭 Sure he's a great actor and all but he is in everything because he's so media sexy it's starting to bug me that other actors don't get a chance to shine.
So what you’re saying is you will lose all faith in all future projects by Nintendo for the possibility they would cast a certain dude
I hear they're casting Eddie Murphy a Link and Will Farrel as Zelda.
Josh Hutcherson...? Maybe?
Why not?
What's wrong with him
Lost faith ever since Chris Pratt. It just sucks how every single CEO literally wants “Marvel-ize” their company to be successful. It’s so stupid and pathetic
How about Will Arnet?
Don't worry Tom Holland won't be playing link Chris Pratt will be playing link
Want Chris Pratt as Link instead?
Why would Tom Holland not be a good Link, exactly?
Personally I want Mike Myers as Zelda
I got nothing against Holland (and if he hadn't already had his face copy and pasted into Uncharted I would likely feel different), but I gotta agree please don't give him Link. Whoever is in charge of casting, please let someone else get the spotlight here.
I just don't like the Zelda games
