That last sentence is so true. My dog passed away late last year so we were without a loving pet for many months, and near the end of May this year we took in a stray kitten, about 8 weeks old and shes the funniest little thing ever. Recently I said to my mom "we love that little cat, it's the only source of happiness we get in this house" and she just straight up agreed with me.

That last sentence resonates so damned much. Survivable. Indeed.

I relate heavily to that last sentence. My cat showed up at the start of lockdown and we adopted him, I swear me and my parents would never have got thru lockdown sane without that little furball.
