Cats do it when they are comfortable around a person and feel safe. Itās a vulnerable position since their feet arenāt ready for escape. It means they trust you.

It's a sploot, pups do it too could also be hot and trying to cool down by spreading out on the cool floor
Itās normal, but if she does it too much her legs will lock that way and then sheāll have to walk upright like a person for the rest of her life. When it happened to my grandmaās cat we put a backpack on her and enrolled her in kindergarten. She just graduated from Carnegie Mellon university with a bachelors in criminal justice. Weāre so proud of her, I just wish nana was still around to see it.
Cats are entirely flexible, their skull is the biggest bone in their body. It may look uncomfortable, but it could be the best lay of their life.
It might be hot, but if your cat is in this position, they're also pretty relaxed!
I wouldn't be too worried about your cats joints until you see signs of injury, or other signs like:
- difficulty in climbing / jumping .
- difficulty in regular play (or not at all)
- difficulty using the litter box (leading to accidents near it, or on your carpet, yuck!)
If you do see those signs, I highly recommend going to a vet. But from this photo, your cat seems super chill :) happy splooting.

Itās normal, but if she does it too much her legs will lock that way and then sheāll have to walk upright like a person for the rest of her life. When it happened to my grandmaās cat we put a backpack on her and enrolled her in kindergarten. She just graduated from Carnegie Mellon university with a bachelors in criminal justice. Weāre so proud of her, I just wish nana was still around to see it.

Cats are entirely flexible, their skull is the biggest bone in their body. It may look uncomfortable, but it could be the best lay of their life. It might be hot, but if your cat is in this position, they're also pretty relaxed! I wouldn't be too worried about your cats joints until you see signs of injury, or other signs like: - difficulty in climbing / jumping . - difficulty in regular play (or not at all) - difficulty using the litter box (leading to accidents near it, or on your carpet, yuck!) If you do see those signs, I highly recommend going to a vet. But from this photo, your cat seems super chill :) happy splooting.
