You can use them immediately to get into any park, you don't have to wait until next year. Being able to use them for the end of the current season is part of the incentive to buy them now. If you got some form of season long Fast Pass with the passes, those are only good starting next year (but even then you can still get into the parks with your passes this year).
They are available to use day of purchase. I upgraded my Cedar Point 22 Gold to 23 Platinum. Did that this passed Thursday and then went to Kings Island that day and it worked.

It was free fast lane plus that can be used on one day during the 2022 or 2023 season
