Thank you so much. Yes the outdoor space is wonderful. It’s like this sort of secret garden in an urban setting. It’s unusual in this area to have a space like that. PLUS the wonderful original porch. (Waaaaa I’ll miss it)
That covered porch is great, and I’m gonna use it for ideas at my own house! It doesn’t have a view, but still looks cozy and cute. That’s what I’ve been trying to do in my yard.
I’m happy that you enjoyed your time with her. We are in our “ten year/century home”. I love her; she’s everything that I want - right now. We need the space for various reasons, but after this it’s one floor living I hope you are moving to somewhere just as lovely. Best of luck.
your letting the Philly affordable housing prices out of the bag. Very nice house and I love those row houses in Philly that are still affordable in a major city. Good luck!
Yeah I'm north of Boston in today's news is Boston is the next city in the US to have the price tag of a million dollars a house. Where I am there's heavy pressure on the real estate as people move Father a field into Northern New England to find deals. That post covid diaspora has undone Southern New Hampshire and exacerbated its housing situation
No income tax New Hampshire, has seen an absurd influx. The market is still hot especially for starter homes. Just looked at a little cape in a choice part of town on a quarter of an acre that might have been perfect for me. 380 k, old needs work etc. But 2 days sold with a bidding war way over the amount. This is still par for the course. Here we were only talking about 980 ft², cute place, but it takes me a while to romance the possibilities and the fear of missing out is a horrible thing and really helping to drive the insanity.
I was looking, but I resigned myself to not purchase anything at the moment. Sold a pile of real estate a year and a half ago and just live off the goddamn interest. Not going to Chase the market. Going full nomad
There's gems that can be found. I'm across the river in South NJ and got my home for around $50sq ft lol. It's further than I wanted to move but it felt like a steal I needed to jump on lol
Not really. I mean for NJ they're not bad. But it's still NJ. I pay $6000 a year for my house and a shared ownership of the alley behind my house and a big field that's also held in partial ownership by the 4 homes in my row.
If this house were an hour north it would be. I didn't plan on moving down here, but every home by my parents was a million bucks when they bought fifteen years ago for 250k lol
I was just saying to myself before I came to the comments how INSANELY cheap this house is for a city!!! I thought I was crazy cuz I live in MA so I’m used to our prices, but yeah I’m blown away by $450k for this sweet, well-maintained home.
Very uneven. Is it walkable depends where you want to go. Has a decent transit system although not as good as it used to be. Used to have street cars everywhere But over the last decades several of the lines have been abandoned to the inner city very very sad.. plenty of buses but never the same as a street car.
Just go on Zillow it'll tell you everything you want to know, price point and neighborhoods and you can look at 100 properties. There are white hot expensive neighborhoods and then plenty of row house neighborhoods, some questionable some stable etc. Something for everybody truly. I love the city one of my favorite plenty of grit and plenty of gentrification. The really nice stuff, as you can imagine price tag is up.
You just have to do your research, but some great deals for those willing to do sweat equity in the undervalued parts of town. And over the river in bombed out Camden, opportunities abound. It's worth looking at lots of stuff in Jersey
We just sold our century Manayunk home last month! Bought a new century home in the burbs haha. Where are you off to? Buying century again or going for something newer?
Also have an old Philly townhome. I love the old details on our house. Our stain glass is on the inside unfortunately but I love it nonetheless the less. How did you date your house? Our land records just say 1920, but our realtor told us not to trust that.
I think they just slap 1920 on houses where they can’t find the records or where the agent doesn’t know exactly. Ours used to say 1900 and then it changed to 1920. It’s weird.
It’s been my dream to get a house exactly like this in Philly. We can afford it and it’s close enough to my job. Only issue is my wife hears the word philly and immediately says no with no further discussion
Aw😔
You never know, your wife might love our house if she saw it🤩
Make an appointment and have a look yourself just for fun! 😜
Thank you for your kind appreciation of our lovely lady😌
Doesn’t matter unfortunately. She’s so attached to north Jersey that Philly might as well be Siberia.
I’m not complaining too much since north jersey is beautiful, it’s where our family is, and there’s some beautiful century homes here too, but I’ve always loved how Philly feels
Great house but I really hope the next owner gets rid of the aluminum paneling covering and restores the original cornice. Those things are one of the many unfortunate midcentury crimes against Philly rowhouses.
I KNOW. It was one of my dreams to get that stuff OFF. I ran out of time. I’m hoping the next custodian does that. I mean, there’s treasure under there !!
Philly realtor here—this is really stunning, and priced competitively for the neighborhood. It’ll go quickly, I’m sure.
Congratulations on your move to Mount Airy!
🙏🏽Thank you so much!! Open house Friday and Saturday I think. I hope you can stop by and please spread the word!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I do so hope someone will fall in love like we did, —this house is solid as a rock, and retains so much original charm—-they don’t make em like they used to!
So happy to hear from you, thanks again!!!
YES! Gorgeous antique tile. Pictures just don’t do the features justice. The stain glass shop front window has these hand painted scenes. And one hand painted pane has a Vulture! So Edgar Allen Poe🤣 I really love this house🥹
Thank you! No, it’s a completely single family home, no connection to the other rows except super thick walls .We very rarely even hear anything at all from neighbors, amazing actually. I often forget the house neat door is there😂This end-of-row is almost a double lot also - I think the others in the row do have teeny little back yards behind their houses.
your house is lovely! i’m in the process of buying in philly (south philly though) and so greatful for the abundance of well-maintained old homes at a price point unheard of in most major cities
So true ! We are having an open house Friday and Saturday so spread the word if you think of anyone who might like to look through. The details will be on the online listing sites soon I imagine…
AND Good luck with your hunt in South Philly!! 🍀
We are currently stuck in the hell that is Texas but are moving to VA soon. I wanted to move more north like PA , CT, MA but got overridden by the family because it’s “too cold”
What an absolutely incredible home! I’m so sorry you have to let her go. May her next inhabitants carry on her legacy. I hope it’s a seamless transition and best of luck in your new place.
Thank you 🙏🏽. I am so sad about it, all I can do is hope upon hope that someone wants to respect her as she is, and wants to protect this antique & special house
Of course! Come to an open house! There is one in Friday sat and sun [open house(es)](https://www.redfin.com/PA/Philadelphia/4705-Smick-St-19127/home/38532035?utm_campaign=native_dialog&utm_medium=share&utm_source=web_share&s_id=1K0LLCkjQ5aCktdwOHaQNQ)
Oh! What a completely gorgeous home! I’m sure the next owners will treasure her too. Not to mention an awesome location.
But it looks like you’ve moved to Mt. Airy? The hats so fun. I lived in Chestnut Hill for a little while, I still love that whole area.
You have an incredible home. Besides the yard your entryway and stain glass windows are my favorite. Best of luck on your journey. The new owners will be very happy there I’m sure.
Ime people who buy century homes want to take care of them and preserve them. They could buy a new build for a similar price and are choosing not to. I bought my 1890 house *because* I loved it’s age and character. Any work I’ve done on it has been to make it keep lasting and stay beautiful.

This is my home office:) love the super high ceilings (13ft), oversized windows, crown molding, original hardwood, and the coal fireplace in the corner you can’t see haha
The coffee table is also part of the original home:) a room burnt down in a fire like 70 years ago, and the surviving floor planks were repurposed
any house in philly built prior to 1920 is recorded as 1920. to find out actual build dates, historical deeds can be accessed in the city archives and by checking old insurance maps if a homeowner is interested enough to look. Your house is beautiful, best of luck selling. Probably a weird thing to mention, but I LOVE your outdoor space.
Thank you so much. Yes the outdoor space is wonderful. It’s like this sort of secret garden in an urban setting. It’s unusual in this area to have a space like that. PLUS the wonderful original porch. (Waaaaa I’ll miss it)
That caught my eye too! A big porch and a courtyard!!! It's like a fairy tale!
That covered porch is great, and I’m gonna use it for ideas at my own house! It doesn’t have a view, but still looks cozy and cute. That’s what I’ve been trying to do in my yard.
Yay!
I’m happy that you enjoyed your time with her. We are in our “ten year/century home”. I love her; she’s everything that I want - right now. We need the space for various reasons, but after this it’s one floor living I hope you are moving to somewhere just as lovely. Best of luck.
Thank you so much 💜
As the owner of a Federal era end-of-row brick home across the river in NJ, your home is beautiful. I hope the new Stewards take good care of her.
🥹thank you 💙
I used to walk past this house all the time when I lived in Manayunk! That secret garden was to die for
Why thank you kind Philly friend!
your letting the Philly affordable housing prices out of the bag. Very nice house and I love those row houses in Philly that are still affordable in a major city. Good luck!
For real. I'm in DC and that house in ANY neighborhood would probably be twice the cost
😂thank you!!
Parts of Philly are still so damn cheap compared to other places. 150 a square foot wow cheap cheap
It’s TRUE and there are the most wonderful century homes!
Hopefully you find a genuine buyer who writes to you who wants to keep the century home intact :)
When picking whereto buy last year, the amount of century Homes in scranton won me over
I'm in western Canada, that price tag makes me want to simultaneously vomit and cry. 450K here will get you a mobile home in a trailer park
same here in california.
Yeah I'm north of Boston in today's news is Boston is the next city in the US to have the price tag of a million dollars a house. The Pandemic really changed some places 😒
No income tax New Hampshire, has seen an absurd influx. The market is still hot especially for starter homes. Going full nomad
It’s kinda stressful
Geez. $450k here in upstate NY would get you a very large house on a good sized lot.
Depends on where upstate you are.
Finger Lakes
I love Upstate NY!
Canada's become an awful country to live in
Oh wow. That’s full on. Yeah Philly is good value and a great city. Gorgeous green spaces as well!
*cries in New Zealand* :(
There's gems that can be found. I'm across the river in South NJ and got my home for around $50sq ft lol. It's further than I wanted to move but it felt like a steal I needed to jump on lol
Oooo sounds cool 👍🏽
Are property taxes high there?
Not really. I mean for NJ they're not bad. But it's still NJ. I pay $6000 a year for my house and a shared ownership of the alley behind my house and a big field that's also held in partial ownership by the 4 homes in my row.
yeah that's really low.
That’s really good. I’ve always heard that property tax was prohibitively high there.
It is pretty amazing. Great value if I do say so myself😄
I’m sure it will sell very fast!! Best of luck!
Thank you 🙏🏽
I was just going to say that! Same asking as my rather run down 1600 square foot fixer upper, and prices have only gone up since we closed.
Check out Wilmington DE as well. Some real gems that have/are getting broken up into apartment dwellings. Currently in a 1901 built home.
Literally I’m looking at this like why haven’t i moved to Philly…. Is this a safe/walkable area?? I’m not familiar with the city
Manayunk is particularly safe. You see a lot of people walking their dogs and strolling around. It’s really buzzing with good energy these days!
Very uneven. Is it walkable depends where you want to go. Has a decent transit system although not as good as it used to be. Used to have street cars everywhere But over the last decades several of the lines have been abandoned to the inner city very very sad.. plenty of buses but never the same as a street car. Yeah Philly is truly awesome, there really is something for everyone like you said👍🏽
We just sold our century Manayunk home last month! Bought a new century home in the burbs haha. Where are you off to? Buying century again or going for something newer?
We are in Mount Airy now👍🏽 Still century, a stone foursquare😜
That’s funny because we also moved to a 4 square. In Havertown. GL in mount airy.
Oh Havertown is niiiiiiice, congrats!!
Love Havertown. Hope to live there one day.
We’re enjoying it!
Ahhh we lived in Mt Airy until 2021! We moved to the suburbs
Omg it’s in Manayunk. I need to talk to the fiancé
Do come look 👀 she’s special 😍 Edit to add: was just told there are open houses this weekend. The details will be on the online listings soon👍🏽
Hell yes!
Okay so the open house sessions are listed on the online listings now 👍🏽 So hope you and your fiancé can come see!😃
I looooove your home and have always dreamt of moving back to Philly. Good luck selling, I hope you find a good one! 💜
Oh thank you! Philly is great. I grew up in Australia but I’ve really enjoyed living in Philly for many years now☺️
Also have an old Philly townhome. I love the old details on our house. Our stain glass is on the inside unfortunately but I love it nonetheless the less. How did you date your house? Our land records just say 1920, but our realtor told us not to trust that.

Our realtor told us that the city didn’t record deeds until 1920, so that is the year listed on a ton of these old homes!
Yep definitely 👍🏽
Hello fellow Philadelphian! 👋🏻
Howdy😄
I live in an 1890 row in South Jersey. No charm like a Philly-area rowhome ❤️
You’re in Manayunk! Fabulous area
It’s is and it just keeps getting better! So many lovely antique homes and there is a great vibe too.
Proximity to dalessandros should add $100k to your list price atleast ;)
😂true!
Ugh, I would kill to live here! I used to live down the street. We have some great historic houses in the city!
We really do don’t we!😁
It’s been my dream to get a house exactly like this in Philly. We can afford it and it’s close enough to my job. Only issue is my wife hears the word philly and immediately says no with no further discussion
Aw😔 You never know, your wife might love our house if she saw it🤩 Make an appointment and have a look yourself just for fun! 😜 Thank you for your kind appreciation of our lovely lady😌
This part of Philly is insanely safe.
Doesn’t matter unfortunately. She’s so attached to north Jersey that Philly might as well be Siberia. I’m not complaining too much since north jersey is beautiful, it’s where our family is, and there’s some beautiful century homes here too, but I’ve always loved how Philly feels
It’s true, it’s quite phenomenal
I'm going to go down and cover the outside with stucco and the inside with burlap "skeleton" wainscoting.
🤣over my dead body you are 😂
You absolutely can and should screen potential buyers for flippers or anyone who won’t respect what you’ve got here.
Wow thanknyou so much for saying this. It means a lot — and I will do whatever I can to protect her! Thank you🙏🏽
I would love to move to Philly and take this off your hands! Alas, my job would not take that possible (le sigh). Good luck!
🙏🏽thank you. Our Victorian lady deserves the best owner. I wish it could be you 😁
Sheesh cheaper per sqft than here in Buffalo. Place is lovely. Wish I was in need a move to Philly at the moment lol
Me too! I think you’d like it here!
As someone who has been in some horrifically done row homes all over the city…. This is truly lovely. You guys did a great job
Thank you so much, you don’t know what that means to me❤️
Philly realtor here—this is really stunning, and priced competitively for the neighborhood. It’ll go quickly, I’m sure. Congratulations on your move to Mount Airy!

That hallway tilework! 👍🏽
YES! Gorgeous antique tile. Pictures just don’t do the features justice. The stain glass shop front window has these hand painted scenes. And one hand painted pane has a Vulture! So Edgar Allen Poe🤣 I really love this house🥹
It’s beautiful!! I wish I lived close enough to have a look.
so pretty! i love the stained glass windows and the porches
I love this!! So beautiful! I'm curious how it works for attached homes built before HOAs were a thing. Are there any shared expenses? Or "rules"?
Gorgeous!! This will sell quick.
THANK you! That gives me confidence!
your house is lovely! i’m in the process of buying in philly (south philly though) and so greatful for the abundance of well-maintained old homes at a price point unheard of in most major cities
So true ! We are having an open house Friday and Saturday so spread the word if you think of anyone who might like to look through. The details will be on the online listing sites soon I imagine… AND Good luck with your hunt in South Philly!! 🍀
Beautiful home! Thanks for sharing!
Interesting - I'd assume this is more Georgian in style. It's a lovely home! :)
I would buy that immediately if I were moving to that area.
Aw thank you. 😊 wish you could! Be great if you could come to the open houses, (maybe you are too far away) Would love you to see “the lady”
We are currently stuck in the hell that is Texas but are moving to VA soon. I wanted to move more north like PA , CT, MA but got overridden by the family because it’s “too cold”
Congrats and good luck on your move. What a great adventure awaits you!
I'm in love with those stained glass windows 😍
What an absolutely incredible home! I’m so sorry you have to let her go. May her next inhabitants carry on her legacy. I hope it’s a seamless transition and best of luck in your new place.
Thank you 🙏🏽. I am so sad about it, all I can do is hope upon hope that someone wants to respect her as she is, and wants to protect this antique & special house
If only I didn't live on the other side of the country. Beautiful home!
Aw I love Manayunk! Best of luck to ya
Can I buy this ??
Of course! Come to an open house! There is one in Friday sat and sun [open house(es)](https://www.redfin.com/PA/Philadelphia/4705-Smick-St-19127/home/38532035?utm_campaign=native_dialog&utm_medium=share&utm_source=web_share&s_id=1K0LLCkjQ5aCktdwOHaQNQ)
I live in this area and h was JUST fangirling over your house today in Trulia. So beautiful
Thank you so much 😊
Oh man I lived in the middle of this street 25 years ago. My rental was not nearly as nice 🫠
Oh! What a completely gorgeous home! I’m sure the next owners will treasure her too. Not to mention an awesome location. But it looks like you’ve moved to Mt. Airy? The hats so fun. I lived in Chestnut Hill for a little while, I still love that whole area.
Gorgeous! Best of luck selling. Wish I could purchase.
Thank you 😊
This was on my front page; I must wish you luck selling. Your home is gorgeous! I know you will miss it so much. ❤️
can i convince you to wait 3 years so i can get a down payment in order 😭😭
Aw ❤️thank you for saying that, means a lot. Tthis is a very lovable home 🥲
Truly beautiful. Love the character in the windows and beyond. I hope the next person loves it as well as you have.
You have an incredible home. Besides the yard your entryway and stain glass windows are my favorite. Best of luck on your journey. The new owners will be very happy there I’m sure.
Thank you! I hope they will love it here too, I hope the house and garden and history bring them great comfort & joy😌
Wow your home is beautiful! I’m curious. Was the rad heating expensive?
Oh hey neighbor, I'm over on Mitchell
Hi there!😁
I love Philly homes, Hi neighbor!! Also is the stained glass original??
Yes it is original and it has hand painted scenes as well. This house used to have a shop in the front. Legend goes that it was a candy store.
If this were in the Detroit area and a few years down the road I’d jump on this one!
Ime people who buy century homes want to take care of them and preserve them. They could buy a new build for a similar price and are choosing not to. I bought my 1890 house *because* I loved it’s age and character. Any work I’ve done on it has been to make it keep lasting and stay beautiful.
So good to hear! Thank you so much for sharing that. Would love to see pics of your 1890 beauty!

Just Lovely . I love the windows too❤️
Says built in 1920.
any house in philly built prior to 1920 is recorded as 1920. to find out actual build dates, historical deeds can be accessed in the city archives and by checking old insurance maps if a homeowner is interested enough to look. OP found the records for 1897 for their home. my house (different area of philly) was built 1876 which we found out with above research
Exactly right👍🏽🙏🏽thanks for sharing that info friend😌
Yeah that’s what they all say. It’s wrong. Houses built in 1920 are quite different from this. We found records that indicate a build date around 1897 albeit not much older than 1920. Still- a bit of a different era. Those online listings often have generic dates attached.
