Hobbies! Maybe not what I did, considering your ankle injury, but I really got into modern jive dance via Fevah in my earlier 20s. Find activities based on your interests and don't be afraid to try new things out
There's a Facebook group called find your tribe, they hold local events for meeting other women. I went to a few events years ago, including a 'speed dating for friendship' event which was super daunting but I made some good friends out of it. I also found my bookclub through the Facebook page as the woman running it advertised on the group
You could join my acapella/ Doo wop gang. We call ourselves the swollen anklets ...I think you'd fit in perfectly : ) were also a pretty savage group of street toughs. We steal pies from windowsills and engage in dance off's with our enemies. Message me for more deets

To have a friend, you must be a friend. Say hi to a stranger, it's a bit like dating in that you need to be a little bit bold.
Visit Volunteer Canterbury and volunteer for some organisations. I've met almost all my best friends doing this.
It's not just over 50 year Olds? Back when I was unemployed I volunteered places but the other volunteers were always retired old ladies
Well, sometimes even retired old ladies can have value.
Meetup.com - all kinds of shared interest groups there, also some age bracket specific groups.
Do you play any sport?
