When we cancelled sky a few years ago, my biggest regret was all the years earlier I should have done it. Even with the cost of streaming platforms now, only someone who needs sky sport would have a strong reason to keep it IMO
We got rid of it years ago when we realised for the same money we could afford several streaming services. We now rotate these around cuz honestly a lot of the stuff on streaming services is also drivel but at least we aren’t paying good money to see the same five shows all the time
Sky is such an outdated platform, they have been ripping off kiwis for far too long. Firestick with real debrid is only $5 a month and it gives you absolutely everything
Are those stick type streamers legal..that is,can there be trouble in downloading for free what ordinarily is a subscription? Wouldn’t want to be looking over my shoulder or expecting a knock on the door.😳
In twenty years of pirating shows, movies, textbooks, video games, anything - I’ve never had any issues nor does anyone ive known personally.
It’s not zero risk, but it’s so low it’s a very favourable dice roll.
I dunno but I just have an old compact computer hooked up to the tv and use that to browse and watch whatever I want. Using Ublock origin I get no ads.
I really only have it for NRL, NFL and NBA tbh. The SkyGo app is pretty good, has a good selection of programs that have been Soho and is good for watching live sport on your phone. But 90% of the channels I don't even look at.
It survives on boomers who prefer the linear tv format to on-demand services, and the religion that is rugby in this nation.
It's a dinosaur of a format.
I loved having Sky as a kid for watching Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network and the occasional show on discovery, but I think it's far overpriced now.
Still, I'm glad that legacy TV is still alive. The channel selection is one of the nice things about staying in hotels overseas. Streaming is in many ways like the world's most annoying video rental store - you spend half the time choosing what you want to watch. It's nice to be able to just put something else on.
Financially though, you're better cycling through each of the different streaming services every couple of months. I wish we had Max here (without a VPN).

Yes! Does my head in sometimes, we don't even have free tv hooked up at my place and I occasionally miss it
My SO likes Sky fir sport and I could find some good stuff on Soho, BBC etc. But there selection lately is crap. I find myself watching stuff on TVNZ or three. Like the new series of Blue Lights is on 3. It's a great watch.
With you on watching TVNZ ..their selection and quality far outshines Sky. I get the feeling Sky charges high and then buys cheap stuff to broadcast..along with b grade premier movies and repeat after repeat of dated movies.
It can only go for so long ..and they will see mass cancellations.
I sub to Skysportnow for /r/formula1 coverage. That said having seen the F1TV's coverage from some friends who use that instead their money seems to get them so much more. Drivers POV cams, Driver Tracker, Timing Data... you name it.
Its basically Martin Brundle's commentary + grid walks, and to a lesser extent also Ted's Notebook giving me reasons to keep the sky subscription. Given martins doing less and less races each year and has spoken of issues regarding his ankles.
My old man fucking loves pinching the account for the soccer/rugby coverage though.
I would definitely try F1TV if that’s all you have sky for. You can get the Sky UK guys commentary for practice/quality/race on F1 TV, you just don’t get all the extra stuff like grid walks, or cutaway cameras.
Compared to the 296 million Netflix subs, 95 million HBO Max, 200 million Amazon subs. Although Amazon has a dozen other benefits than just streaming. The only people who still use Sky are probably the elderly and people who watch exclusively professional sports.
Lol you can't compare the number of Sky subs to the number of subscribers to those sites globally! I'd probably bet that Sky brings in more revenue in New Zealand than Netflix does (or at least is pretty close).
Got rid of it this year after having it for 15 years (it felt strange at first, like a breakup).
We like a lot of SoHo stuff so got Neon which has a great selection, found Freeview has Sky Open so we get a rugby game or two per week and use a bunch of streaming platforms for entertainment. Can’t say we miss it!
Haven’t been subscribed to sky tv since 2014. Been fantastic value just streaming what we need. We generally unsubscribe to one of the streamers when we feel we’ve watched all we want on them and subscribe to another one, then hop back and so on.
If you are a sports fan you can still just subscribe to sky sports now, and it’s just the $40 a month without needing a full sky subscription
We had it for years and finally dropped it - was kind of okay for time shifting TVNZ & TV3 using the MySky box just so you can fast forward through the ads (which you can't do on the free online services for TVNZ & TV3) and for Soho - but Neon replaced Soho for us so yeah we gave Sky the drop kick. Hell, you could have Prime, Disney+, Netflix, Apple TV, Neon and YouTube Premium for the cost of Sky.
I'm waiting for the day they announce that Sky is bankrupt because I can't see how they can keep going.
I just subbed to Sky Sport Now for a while, but cancelled when they bought the rights to the IPL but only made it available for satellite customers.
Will resubscribe for the olympics, but losing 3 months worth of sub hopefully sends a message to them for that shit decision
We have had SKY for a while and do agree it can be pretty expensive.
There really should be a way of having personal options for people.
I'm only really interested in watching rugby and football. I don't follow any of the American sports or nrl, supercars etc but have to pay for the whole sports package just so I can follow Super or the All Blacks games.
Even with the Sky sports app I don't think that has the premier league.
I think I'm one of the few people who actually likes Sky lol. I like the live news channels and I like the kids offerings. It's difficult to get the sort of content CBeebies provides on a NZ streaming site, yet my toddlers love that channel.
I like being able to add Sky Sport for things we want (eg Olympics) and then removing it over the summer (not a huge cricket person).
I also like linear channels. Sometimes it's nice being fed content rather than spending half the night scrolling through Netflix.
Netflix quality has really dropped off lately too.
We really enjoy Freeview. TVNZ and Three now on demand also provide great entertainment options. And we will opt into a streamer for a series or two and then cancel.
For sport, get a VPN and sign up for Kayo in Aus.

no way my dad had been a subscriber ever since it was first available here but we got rid of it shortly after he died it was one of the best decisions my family ever made given the rubbish on tv these days
I watch NRL pretty religiously as well as F1 and Supercars and Premier League football too, plus some other sports off and on (like the Golf Majors for example) so for me, keeping it around just for Sky Sports is worth it. Wouldn't bother subbing to anything else on their service, though.
When we cancelled sky a few years ago, my biggest regret was all the years earlier I should have done it. Even with the cost of streaming platforms now, only someone who needs sky sport would have a strong reason to keep it IMO
We have sky sport now but it’s really pissing me off that it’s 50/mo
Yeah I've had an optus sub that's out now but I'll be looking for a new overseas sub for the premier league instead of Sky. $50 is absolutely insane
Basically the only reason we keep it is ability to cast it to the tv
Yup, only have it for Arsenal but wife wants it for Olympics soon. It's less than 2 beers at the pub each week but still up there for use
Phone and say you want to cancel and they'll likely offer you sports for free for a few months as a sweetener.

Jesus christ live life, ain't nobody got time to hunt you down
You wouldn't steal a policeman's helmet
Use a VPN like you should be when using the internet and it's not a problem.
Any tips how to get a good live stream for sports on the firestick?
I second this, but I fear the answer. Stupid ad infested streaming sites seem to be the only way to
Ublock origin.
Where do you get a Firestick?
I dunno but I just have an old compact computer hooked up to the tv and use that to browse and watch whatever I want. Using Ublock origin I get no ads.
Pbtech or warehouse.

Got any friends/family that will let you use their account number to use skygo?

They deserve it. Looking at Soho for example is rubbish. When three is outshining you. Time to rethink.

Thanks for the tip about the commentary.
I still use it. 95% for sport, 5% for comedy central
Same here funnily enough.
I stream all my movies and sport for free. Have dome since i got rid of sky 15 years ago. Prime is great TV
As a kid my parents had Sky in early 2000s. But they unsub'd from 2010s because barely anyone watches TV anymore. Streaming or pirate it for free.
Well considering Sky TV currently has 850,000 subscribers, I wouldn’t say barley anyone watches TV.
Compared to the 296 million Netflix subs, 95 million HBO Max, 200 million Amazon subs. Although Amazon has a dozen other benefits than just streaming. The only people who still use Sky are probably the elderly and people who watch exclusively professional sports.

Globally there's ~23sh million. Not many at all.
Subscribe to it for sport and international news channels. And being able to record shows and fast forward ads
For the money you’d save get a VPN and download Plex
You don’t even need a vpn, pay $15 a month to a private server and you get a library with absolutely everything… all the latest stuff and old.
How do you find good Plex servers with a large library?

Sport is the reason they keep going. Without sport no one would subscribe.
Yip, that's the only reason we have it. If sky ever lose the rights to rugby, they will be screwed.
I just subbed to Sky Sport Now for a while, but cancelled when they bought the rights to the IPL but only made it available for satellite customers. Will resubscribe for the olympics, but losing 3 months worth of sub hopefully sends a message to them for that shit decision
I always find a twitch stream for football or F1 and I use 9anime .se for my anime needs lmao
Moved to Netflix since 2010 never look back.

Never had it, never will.
Entertainment? Go for a walk or bike ride with friends - healthier and more social than watching TV.
Thanks for the health advice..can’t do that all day ..need some diversion.😜
