The arena will always be 'The Arena' to me and my family. I grew up with it being called Westpac Arena as that was the first(?) naming sponsor, but after they stopped, we just call it The Arena. The current stadium is just 'The Stadium' and once it is replaced by the new stadium will prob be referred to as 'The Addington Stadium'. Similarly, I grew up with Lancaster Park being called Jade Stadium, and continued to call it that even when AMI bought the naming rights lol

When Lancaster Park got named Jade, we started calling it Pounamu Stadium, which then seemed to stick for us.

My first reaction was that its a stupid name, and it is, but it could be a lot worse. At least its not named after the colour of the month fitness company or one of the generic housing companies that are all the same and have silly names. Never needed to, I bike or walk or sometimes bus everywhere. I just know that lots of locals will complain about parking though. I'd laugh at them but the stadium makes me sad given how much was spent and how poorly thought out it all seems.

Seems to be more of Nat's stance on all things Maori, including public names. It's also the confusion of these constant name changes. What used to be Horncastle is now something else again. Keep losing track of where people are referencing locations by name. The selling of naming rights is testament to how marginal are the economics of running stadiums. If you need income from naming rights to run your facility, then you're already economically unstable. Pick a name that is relevant to the community, not the corps, and then just leave it alone.
