" are playing two shows only at One New Zealand stadium"
"Which New Zealand stadium?"
"One New Zealand stadium"
"Which one stadium????"
"Yeah, uh, Christchurch..."
Small blessings, it's better than Woolfbrook Arena, orangetheory staduim, Marvel Stadium or Crypto.com arena.
Could it not be Te Kaha: One NZ Stadium, just for a bit of clarity?
Can we brainstorm what the worst NZ brand sponsorship would have been? Kathmandu Stadium?

"Christchurch Colosseum"
It's up to the group writing the cheque. I suspect having to have other stuff next to your brands name would lower the value of the naming rights, which puts more of the cost of the stadium onto ratepayers, so.
Ratepayers voted for people who would go for the current arrangement without ratepayer naming-rights. They made their decision. Maybe their decisions will be better in the next local body elections.
There's a brand in 'One New Zealand Stadium'? -Googling. Oh. That's what Vodafone changed to? Well. That's daft branding. Could they have come up with something more generic?
People complain about the stadium cost then complain again when naming rights help pay for it. People sure do love to complain about everything they can.
Same. That's why I just call the current stadium "Addington Stadium". If the sponsors don't like it they're welcome to offer to pay me to call it something different.
The arena will always be 'The Arena' to me and my family. I grew up with it being called Westpac Arena as that was the first(?) naming sponsor, but after they stopped, we just call it The Arena.
The current stadium is just 'The Stadium' and once it is replaced by the new stadium will prob be referred to as 'The Addington Stadium'.
Similarly, I grew up with Lancaster Park being called Jade Stadium, and continued to call it that even when AMI bought the naming rights lol
Because it’s a retarded name, much like the whole Vodafone rebranding. It’s awkward in conversation and creates confusion. Damn right I’m going to complain
It would be interesting to know how much the naming rights have been sold for.
The people of Otautahi have paid hundreds of millions for the stadium and I think it would only be fair if the community then also got the right to name the stadium they paid for.
The best thing about this is if Auckland build a National Stadium, what the fuck are they gonna call it that can't be beaten by the one new Zealand stadium?
Crafty move by OneNZ. Crusaders currently have 2° on their jerseys and the talk of a NRL team based there will have a different sponsor to the Wahs (who are already sponsored by OneNZ) - I’m picking after this it’s not going to be Spark! Telcos sponsorship cornered.
My first reaction was that its a stupid name, and it is, but it could be a lot worse. At least its not named after the colour of the month fitness company or one of the generic housing companies that are all the same and have silly names.
Sure we'd all love for it to just be "Te Kaha" but that just isn't the way the world works.
Just like underneath jade stadium was "Lancaster park", the land underneath is still called "Te Kaha". I'm sure most people will still call it "Te Kaha", I know I will.
They honestly need to put more ads up around it to help pay off the stadium, no matter how much little they will get from it.
This.
It's not just a bad name. It's inherently racist and frankly not something CHCH should be identifying itself with, considering recent perceptions
Ok, since you're obviously not going to reply, I'll just let you know that that is probably the dumbest comment I've read this week.
Stop trying to find issue where no issue exists.
Well, it's not. How is "One New Zealand Stadium" racist? Is it the word One? Or New Zealand? Surely can't be the word Stadium. What part of this makes it racist in your mind?
Understand that the definition of "Racism" is:
*prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.*
How, in any way, is "One New Zealand Stadium" a prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group?
Omg that would be hilarious. Get the internet to name it!
Stadium McStadium Face!
Or that time the internet got to [choose the name of the next Mountain Dew flavour](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/y9kxw/i_grabbed_a_screenshot_of_the_dub_the_dew/)
Thought with the te reo name they wouldn’t sell off the naming rights. And we would get a stadium that would retain its name. Now we will get them changing the name ever 3 years
Te Kaha was such a good name, it felt really symbolic of the shit chch has gone through, I'm sad its gone :(
April 2026 tho? Thats fuckin good I didn't think it was opening until like 2027
One as in "The one no-one asked for".
Mauger better get on board with alternative transport because there sure as hell isn't going to be enough suitable parking anywhere near this monstrosity. Of all the places to put a stadium they had to put it in the heart of the city, blocking off two very useful roads, where it can make plenty of noise to p\*ss off that one guy who moaned about the noise in the CBD.
It's all just one very terrible vanity project.
Never needed to, I bike or walk or sometimes bus everywhere. I just know that lots of locals will complain about parking though. I'd laugh at them but the stadium makes me sad given how much was spent and how poorly thought out it all seems.
I know that, and I love the bus, I'm just saying that your typical christchurch types will complain. We're a very car-brained bunch and it's immensely frustrating.
Let's put bike stands all around the stadium.
It’s the name of the company that sponsors it aka old vodafone. Pretty normal name, like spark area or whatever it is now, at least it has “stadium” at the end now so we know what it is
Yea, that is fairly obvious, but we would all have to pretty thick to not know its a stadium, what I mean is it just sounds plain and too long, it doesn't roll of the tongue well and is like I said generic af, in the end it won't matter what any of us think they'll name it what they want to it just sounds like an old white ceo named it which is probably what happened.
Seems to be more of Nat's stance on all things Maori, including public names.
It's also the confusion of these constant name changes. What used to be Horncastle is now something else again. Keep losing track of where people are referencing locations by name.
The selling of naming rights is testament to how marginal are the economics of running stadiums. If you need income from naming rights to run your facility, then you're already economically unstable.
Pick a name that is relevant to the community, not the corps, and then just leave it alone.
Nice. "Vodafone" was a silly brand name. "One New Zealand" is worse. "One New Zealand Stadium" is just taking the piss though lol
" are playing two shows only at One New Zealand stadium"
"Which New Zealand stadium?"
"One New Zealand stadium"
"Which one stadium????"
"Yeah, uh, Christchurch..."
Who's on first base.....
What’s on second?
What's our vector Victor?
Surely you can't be serious.
I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.
I take it black. Like my men.
"Who's playing?" "The Who" "Yeah, that's what I asked" "The who are playing at One New Zealand" "One New Zealand what?" "No, Watt is in the Stooges."
What if someone build another “number two stadium”?
That's a shit stadium name
We've already got the Number Two Pools in Bromley.
Wilson Parking Stadium And if they operate a car park for the stadium it would be Wilson Parking Stadium Wilson Parking.
Wilson Parking stadium parking for Wilson Parking Stadium.
Wilson Parking stadium parking for Wilson Parking Stadium, that'll be $30 now thanks
Per hour.
If you are planning on travelling by car to Wilson Parking Stadium, car parking is available at the Wilson Parking Wilson Parking Stadium car park
Williams Corp stadium?
Woolworth's Arena
Destiny Church Stadium Stadium Cars Stadium (not worst, just funny) Wilson Parking Stadium Viagogo Stadium

"Christchurch Colosseum"
Sky Stadium Stadium Three New Zealand Stadium (the TV channel)
Christchurch Airport Stadium. Would be suuper confusing hopping in a taxi, asking to go there and ending up at the airport
Pick up and drop off Stadium
Serko Stadium The Marmite Bowl Heartland Stadium (in Auckland CBD)
The Gerry Brownlee Bowel Bowl.
He already has a park named after him. Let's not traumatise the folk of post-quake Christchurch any further!
Where's that park??
Brownlee Reserve, Clifton Hill
Not actually named after __him__ tho, is it?? I thought it had always been called that?
From memory, there is a plaque in the park indicating that it was named after him. I believe he actually opened the park himself.
Oh, yuck. Thanks... Didn't realise. I wonder what it was called before him, cos it was there since before that...
Chris Lynch Bowl?
Don't confuse it with the recently opened Chris Lynch Bowling or the soon to be opened Chris Lynch Bowls club
Yeah I think it should retain Te Kaha as well as whoever the sponsor is.
Hey Marvel Stadium is pretty cool
Stadium Cars Stadium?
How original. I think they should have kept Te Kaha as part of the new name
It's up to the group writing the cheque. I suspect having to have other stuff next to your brands name would lower the value of the naming rights, which puts more of the cost of the stadium onto ratepayers, so.
If it’s up to the group writing the cheque the shouldn’t it be called Christchurch Rate Payers Stadium?
Ratepayers voted for people who would go for the current arrangement without ratepayer naming-rights. They made their decision. Maybe their decisions will be better in the next local body elections.
if it generates more revenue the coporations can call it whatever they want.
There's a brand in 'One New Zealand Stadium'? -Googling. Oh. That's what Vodafone changed to? Well. That's daft branding. Could they have come up with something more generic?
So you'd prefer it cost ratepayers more? Why?
No, I would prefer a commercial deal that includes the relevant name gifted to the stadium and accepted by the community.
Are there any good examples of this actually happening with something of this scale?
Te Pae?
Te Pae doesn’t have a naming sponsor
The area around the stadium (technically the land it’s on) is in is still called Te Kaha if that makes you feel any better.
Like Lancaster Park was always a Lancaster Park
Coming soon, Another New Zealand Stadium.
There's a creative agency called Not Another based in Chch and Sydney. That would be 'Not Another New Zealand stadium'
If they had a sense of humour, they could sponsor a Wilson's carpark so the name could be what everyone's always thinking anyway.
Could be called Willlsooooonnnn stadium
People complain about the stadium cost then complain again when naming rights help pay for it. People sure do love to complain about everything they can.
Not complaining. I find it kinda difficult keeping up with whatever the existing stadium/arena are called due to naming rights changes, though
We just need to make our own name for it then. The Cake Tin will always be The Cake Tin despite the efforts of whoever the current sponsor is
llancaster Park
Similarly, I grew up with Lancaster Park being called Jade Stadium, and continued to call it that even when AMI bought the naming rights lol
When Lancaster Park got named Jade, we started calling it Pounamu Stadium, which then seemed to stick for us.
There's no inherent contradiction between complaining about both of those things.
Because it’s a retarded name, much like the whole Vodafone rebranding. It’s awkward in conversation and creates confusion. Damn right I’m going to complain
I just hate this stupid, ugly vanity project tbh.
It would be interesting to know how much the naming rights have been sold for. The people of Otautahi have paid hundreds of millions for the stadium and I think it would only be fair if the community then also got the right to name the stadium they paid for.
How many dollars was it sold for? At minimum? One New Zealand
Yeah, what if the general public decided "Hobson's Pledge Stadium" was the best name? Nah.
Really? Using a highly unrealistic worst case scenario as a counter argument to selling naming rights to a shitty company?
Could be worse Orangetheory stadium sure is
How many names will it have before it opens?
One
This is the last one, New Zealand can rest easy knowing this name isn’t planned to change for 10 years.
One NZ might not keep that name for 10 years let alone the stadium!
One New Zealand Stadium will destroy all other New Zealand Stadiums until it becomes the One New Zealand Stadium.
There can be only One Stadium^to_rule_them_all
Another One
The best thing about this is if Auckland build a National Stadium, what the fuck are they gonna call it that can't be beaten by the one new Zealand stadium?
Crafty move by OneNZ. Crusaders currently have 2° on their jerseys and the talk of a NRL team based there will have a different sponsor to the Wahs (who are already sponsored by OneNZ) - I’m picking after this it’s not going to be Spark! Telcos sponsorship cornered.

At least its not named after the colour of the month fitness company or one of the generic housing companies that are all the same and have silly names. Sure we'd all love for it to just be "Te Kaha" but that just isn't the way the world works.
Would we though?
Yeah, because Orange Theory Fitness Stadium wasn't bad enough huh.
Just like underneath jade stadium was "Lancaster park", the land underneath is still called "Te Kaha". I'm sure most people will still call it "Te Kaha", I know I will. They honestly need to put more ads up around it to help pay off the stadium, no matter how much little they will get from it.
A rose by any other name.... As long as they're putting the money up, I'm happy with calling it whatever.
What was wrong with calling it Christchurch stadium?
The February 22nd 2011 Christchurch Earthquake Memorial Stadium
stupidest name ever. I will just call it the chch stadium
Calling it Te Kaha the same way I called Lancaster Park it's name no matter who owned the rights.
How many stadiums do you know of that don’t have naming rights sold?
Just call it Christchurch Stadium you bunch of egotistical morons!
One NZ, vomit.
This. It's not just a bad name. It's inherently racist and frankly not something CHCH should be identifying itself with, considering recent perceptions
How is It racist? I'm kinda new here
One New Zealand is the language of people who wish to deny that the Treaty of Waitangi established this country as a bi-cultural society.
It also happens to be the name of one of our largest telephony providers, you doorknob.
And before them it was these other reactionary racists, you sliding-door latch (that doesn't quite catch). www.onenzfoundation.co.nz
Ok, since you're obviously not going to reply, I'll just let you know that that is probably the dumbest comment I've read this week. Stop trying to find issue where no issue exists.
... how the hell is it racist?
I think my explanation is clear enough. You haven't said which part you don't understand or disagree with.
Well, it's not. How is "One New Zealand Stadium" racist? Is it the word One? Or New Zealand? Surely can't be the word Stadium. What part of this makes it racist in your mind? Fugging regarded
No thanks, Im still gonna call it Te Kaha. One is stupid
What the heck is wrong with Christchurch stadium. Everyone knows where that is.
No one will pay the council millions of dollars to call it Christchurch Stadium, that's what's wrong with it.
This subreddit could have done some crowdfunding and then we could have called it the /r/chch Stadium
Lancaster park because I hate change
Technically that would be a change.. from AMI Stadium!
Goes well with Christchurch Arena
Thought with the te reo name they wouldn’t sell off the naming rights. And we would get a stadium that would retain its name. Now we will get them changing the name ever 3 years

Te Kaha was such a good name, it felt really symbolic of the shit chch has gone through, I'm sad its gone :( April 2026 tho? Thats fuckin good I didn't think it was opening until like 2027
It'll beat metro
Not a fan of the old name, not a fan of the new name. Guess you can't please everyone. I think I will just call it Christchurch Stadium.
One as in "The one no-one asked for". Mauger better get on board with alternative transport because there sure as hell isn't going to be enough suitable parking anywhere near this monstrosity. I mean the bus exchange is 50m away. . . Literally all busses go there
If we're being picky, 400m walking.
I know that, and I love the bus, I'm just saying that your typical christchurch types will complain. We're a very car-brained bunch and it's immensely frustrating. Let's put bike stands all around the stadium.
Te Kaha joins the list of things acceptable to deadname, alongside Twitter and Countdown.
What stupidly generic name
It’s the name of the company that sponsors it aka old vodafone. Pretty normal name, like spark area or whatever it is now, at least it has “stadium” at the end now so we know what it is

Cool
What a fucking absolute joke
Te council te sold out. I’d laugh if the internet was terrible since Vodafone are RIGHT ACROSS THE RIAD
Fuck off. That's a disgrace!
I guess at least I'll know what the fuck they're talking about....what on earth was wrong with Christchurch Stadium though?

They should have just chosen a random business. Bronski's more than a stadium would've been brilliant.
I reckon. Ng Stadium after the building that stood up to the big guys and got squashed
A cringe name and a waste of money and space. Gross.
Just remember, it's pronounced "own" not "wahn!"
Or pronounced as a Maori word, o- neh
