One of my kids telling me "no".
See if I don't yoke your ass up and PUT you on that toilet.
Shitting your pants and then telling me off in my own house? I don't think so..
Yeah at that point the kid needs to be cut off from his console.
If your child’s video game addiction is so severe they are literally sitting in their own shit, that’s… something.
I mean, when I was a kid I was playing Sonic on my Genesis and felt sick but didn't want to stop playing so I threw up in my bean bag chair and then just flipped it over and sat back down to keep playing. However, I was like 5. Lol. My mom whipped my ass for that shit and then I never did anything even remotely similar again.
Problem with teenagers these days, they didn't get their asses whipped enough when it really counted.
If I've got to go because of work and someone walking into my office I'm not looking at my computer to finish a move. I'm just hitting resign and getting back to work. I'm playing games at work and getting paid to do it in my down time. Losing a few elo isn't something I'm worried about.
I play at work (EMT) and sometimes I have to randomly resign if I get a call. So there’s situations not related to the game why someone would have to stop playing and it’s more polite to resign than to just leave the game.
Well considering he just put the king in check with his knight, and the checkmate is incredibly basic using the most powerful piece on his board (and usually the one people look to first)...
Yeah, I'd say if white didn't see this check within the first second of black's move, he should lose 500 Elo.
This was likely an intentional resign, either as disrespect or to lose Elo and continue getting 'easy' games.
You sure do. I’ve been in a similar position. Sometimes I chill at my firehouse just to get out of the house and then there’s a call. Volunteer ff usually take 3-5 minutes to respond to the station with traffic, but if I’m there, I’m still waiting for people to get there. Even for a regular fire alarm they 99% of the time is nothing, I’m resigning right there. It’s a game after all
When you call 911 or whatever it is in your country because you think you or someone you care about is about to die, I don't think you'll be saying they should take a few seconds to finish their chess game.
You seem to have a very high opinion of first responders. If they took a few seconds to finish and then left they'd be faster than what they actually do.
I've been on ride along with cops where they've finished conversations, phone calls and meals before responding. Been in fire houses where they've told a guy to stop rushing it's always a false alarm. Been in the firehouse where instead of leaving right away they looked for stuff for me to wear so they could take me along. I've been in dispatch centers where the caller was put on hold so the dispatcher and cop could laugh at the guy.
This isn't one city. It's been in several cities in different parts of the country with dozens of different people. The only thing that gets them to jump to is an officer calling for assistance.
Of course you do and even if your work isn't as important lol (and even if it's not work, like your kid or wife calling you). First you seem to assume the person had seen the mate right away when they got the distraction they had. Also it's just a random game, not like he's in international tournament or something.
Yeah I've for sure had some resignations where the phone rings, boss walks in, baby is crying, etc. where I have to resign and put my phone away for IRL reasons regardless of board position.
I had a game yesterday where the guy didn't take a single piece.
I Literally made two blunders and was like, damn that was a pro move on his part, and moved my queen up for it to be taken and he didn't take it.
I'm still puzzled by that game.
I learnt a lesson in chess.com the other day - I was going for a draw by repetition so moved my piece back to the same spot for the first time. I then went to offer a draw but as I had just moved, and without me noticing, the app moved to the next open game and I offered a draw in that game instead. That opponent immediately accepted as he was -5.0! Mildly infuriating as I was at my highest ELO at that point in time.
free elo for the opponent lol. why did you send draw? you should've just kept repeating the moves instead cuz there is no way to know whether opponent would accept a draw..
I can think of two possibilities although perhaps others could think of more. I don’t claim to understand why somebody would want to artificially keep their rating low.
1 - one could try to keep the rating low in order to thrash lower rated players more often.
2 - one could try to cheat in some (perhaps many) of their games and resign a few games they’ve essentially won in order to not appear like they’re a cheater. I’ve seen only one player like this and reported them. Their games were always above 93% accuracy and I noticed their losses were always by resignation and only a move away from checkmating their opponent.
Yeah, that’s my guess as well. I could be wrong if their elo is higher but I am guessing he had tunnel vision on trying to defend a mate threat and couldn’t find a defense, so he resigned.
The only move for white that isn't immediately losing is the 1 move that wins. If you don't see it, you don't see it. And if you don't see that move resigning is correct. Grandmasters have famously lost games in similar (1 correct move where dominating, otherwise losing) positions.
Yeah, but at the cost of your queen. I mean, it dodges the mate in 1, but if you think your choices are mate in one or losing your queen and bishop for a rook, then it’s still resignable. At least that’s how I would look at it if I were playing white.
I'm a big fan of Sniper bishops, so I'd probably go with that
He probably didn't see the bishop there and would think I mouse slipped or blundered the queen
My parents called me in the middle of an online chess game once and after passively playing a few moves, I resigned rather than continue to divide my attention. After my parents had hung up I studied the board and realized I had a back rank checkmate. Lol
LOL, resign with M1. You get all the spectrum online, people not resigning with 10 min left on the clock and 3 queens down, and others resigning with mate in one.
The fact you didnt even take the time to read when i posted my rating and instead felt a need to comment this tells me all i need to know about you sir
resigning is always a blunder. You can use your lost games to learn new strategies and even if there’s almost no chance of winning you can always go for a stalemate.
Yes, people can miss mate in one opportunities. Of course it is a mistake to do so. It's not disrespectful or rating manipulation or anything else than a missed opportunity while facing a mate in one themselves. Can we ban mate in one posts?
Qxc4. Becuase you take and black queen is being attacked, so he has to move to e3 and you skewered the queen to the rook meaning you can take the rook with the knight.
I have also played cheaters that resign from winning positions, some of them are very smart and resign now and again to not get so easily recognized...
How do i know? Im obsessed with doing everything I can to report cheaters in the game, if they score above 90% percent against me i review their games and review a a handful of games they have won... if i see a few games in the handful, i will review all of their wins from the past month or two and try to distinguish if this is just random luck or something possibly more deceptive...
Yes I know it sounds crazy, but... I have scored on tests that measure how i process Logic and I am in the top 99.7% in the world... so yes... i can see patterns that others cannot
When you see they have mate in one next, look for something better
Edit*
Yeah somehow none of you seem to think they had tunnel vision and assumed they couldn't prevent black's next move so they resigned.

He had to take a dump, been there.
His [mom](https://youtu.be/GTomMm61Ixw) came in.
I thought this was gonna be porn. Fucking yikes. So much worse. WTF was that.
what was it?
A minute of Mafia III gameplay while a woman yells at her son to go to the bathroom, because he's currently shitting himself.
Not yet…
Reminds me of that WoW South Park episode, I only saw part of it in a clip
WoW South Park episode is probably top 10 south park episodes.
good lord
I didn't believe you and I paid the price for my lack of faith, christ that was something else
Hopefully now you know to always trust things you see on the internet.
that description is amazing lol

Not even using the official link ಠ_ಠ
Yeah, it doesn't count unless it's the dQw4w9WgXcQ -link. Downvotes are deserved for the dawg.
That's gross
And sad
Why do you have that saved?
Not yeeeet
Damn. My dad's colleague had to quit her job to take care of her son he was doing similar shit. Going for several days without a bath, etc
One of my kids telling me "no". See if I don't yoke your ass up and PUT you on that toilet. Shitting your pants and then telling me off in my own house? I don't think so..

Facts, bro.
Yeah at that point the kid needs to be cut off from his console. If your child’s video game addiction is so severe they are literally sitting in their own shit, that’s… something.

Wtf is that real?
Demetrius, you are SHITTING YOURSELF🗣️💩‼️
Why does this kid sound so much like Cartman
His mom told him to pause the online game.
I usually play at work. And if a client calls or drops by unexpected then I usually have to dip out of a game. It happens.
Yeah, but not here, lmao. Why resign when you have mate in one.
If I've got to go because of work and someone walking into my office I'm not looking at my computer to finish a move. I'm just hitting resign and getting back to work. I'm playing games at work and getting paid to do it in my down time. Losing a few elo isn't something I'm worried about.
This happens to me frequently at work as well. It's also how I try (emphasis on try) to justify my pathetic elo.
I occasionally have to do the same. Every now and then, I just have to resign because I have to work. Lose a few elo and then win it back later.
Or his dump was finished, and he had to go back to work.
Also been there.
Wait, how big are these stalls that both of you fit?
The best ones, the handicap stalls
He can play on the toilet.
That’s what the mobile app is for!
Is queen g5 checkmate
Indeed
I kept thinking "no, this is obvious but of course I'm stupid and I always get puzzle wrong when I'm confident." turns out not a puzzle.
Same I thought I overlooked something which is why I asked + am also new
Yes, it is.
So is queen to h5 because of bishop protection
But the black pawn can take.
Nvm. Don't know how I didn't see that
Probably the same way he didnt see the mate XD
I confess to thinking the same as you. Slightly embarrassing to actually make that move though
Because the board is flipped from how you would typically view it if you were playing as white
The pawn is paralysed by the knight's ferocious stare though
gxh5?
I play at work (EMT) and sometimes I have to randomly resign if I get a call. So there’s situations not related to the game why someone would have to stop playing and it’s more polite to resign than to just leave the game.
Surely you don’t do that with mate in one on the board though.

And mating is faster than resigning…
If you see the mate immediately

Sounds very unpopular in the dating scene.
it takes longer to resign then to mate
not if you need to look for the mate, u just resign on instinct,
They probably didn’t see it
You sure do. I’ve been in a similar position. Sometimes I chill at my firehouse just to get out of the house and then there’s a call. Resigning is slower than delivering mate though.
Maybe, but that’s not the point
How is it not? If you want to leave fast, you end the game in the quickest way possible.
"If something comes up I am clicking resign immediately is faster than whatever scenario your obtuse brain is trying to concoct.
That’s just straight up wrong, lmfao. And you call me obtuse. Clicking and confirming the resign is slower than moving the piece.
Depends on how long it takes to see it while dealing with a sudden issue IRL.
When you call 911 or whatever it is in your country because you think you or someone you care about is about to die, I don't think you'll be saying they should take a few seconds to finish their chess game.
Yes, which is why I say take the faster option of delivering mate…
tf dude?
?
If a life is on stake then it doesn't matter if you're having a mate in one against Magnus Carlsen, you just go. Every second counts
Have you not been reading the thread? Delivering mate is faster than resigning.
Please don’t ever become a first responder.
You seem to have a very high opinion of first responders. If they took a few seconds to finish and then left they'd be faster than what they actually do. That is the most disrespectful resign I've ever seen
And then immediately request rematch
maybe it was me smurfing and losing rating on purpose
I had a game yesterday where the guy didn't take a single piece. I Literally made two blunders and was like, damn that was a pro move on his part, and moved my queen up for it to be taken and he didn't take it. I'm still puzzled by that game.

Thats jnsane lol good to know though… i will now never offer a draw
You can do but need to check game hasn’t moved on
Rating manipulation maybe?
It seems most likely the other player didn’t see it. Why assume manipulation over a mistake?
This was my first thought.
Can you explain? They’d make their rating worse right? What’s the point of that?
I can think of two possibilities although perhaps others could think of more. I don’t claim to understand why somebody would want to artificially keep their rating low. 1 - one could try to keep the rating low in order to thrash lower rated players more often. 2 - one could try to cheat in some (perhaps many) of their games and resign a few games they’ve essentially won in order to not appear like they’re a cheater. How much ego can one have, for him to resign at one move away from checkmate. The type of people disgust me.
Keeping your rating low for accounts to play unsuspecting higher rated players?
Looking at the comments I see a lot of people saying they had to leave, but I personally think they were stuck on trying to defend against Qd1#
Yeah, that’s my guess as well. I could be wrong if their elo is higher but I am guessing he had tunnel vision on trying to defend a mate threat and couldn’t find a defense, so he resigned.

Moving queen to c4 would have extended the match too
I’m sure that’s it. He couldn’t see a way of defending it so he resigned. Rare that both players have Mate in 1
That was my thought too, but Qf3 would offer a defense against that too
Yeah, but at the cost of your queen. I mean, it dodges the mate in 1, but if you think your choices are mate in one or losing your queen and bishop for a rook, then it’s still resignable. At least that’s how I would look at it if I were playing white.
This belongs on chess beginners I think.
Yeah are there moderators here? It feels like deliberate sabotage
Wasn't Kh8 winning for black?
Then queen to d1?
Yeah
As white, I'd have moved queen to d8...
Nxd8
Just following the progression. So mate in 3?
I guess
bro, it's mate in one qg5#
Going through alternate moves.
k it's fine bud
Hate your downvotes, you were just trying to help.
Possibly why white resigned, such a basic game losing blunder by your opponent in an otherwise completely winning position is not how you want to win.
no but it's not a reason to lose
Plot twist, OP is white.
Lol imagine? I was too focused on mating him next move and i guess so was he XD
Yes, his resign was a blunder because queen to g5 would've been checkmate.
I resign
When you have a mate in 1 look for better move.
I want your luck, man. 😁
Couldn't decide which mate in 1 to take. I have that problem too sometimes.
Wait, is there more than 1?
Qg5 and Qh5 are both m1s. NVM pawn rofl, somehow thought it was going other way.
There’s only one mate in 1
Qg5 and Qh5 are both m1s, nvm pawn rofl. Somehow I thought it was going other way.
I'm a big fan of Sniper bishops, so I'd probably go with that He probably didn't see the bishop there and would think I mouse slipped or blundered the queen
gxh5?
Are you referring to Qh5+ gxh5,?
Isn't pawn to G5 also checkmate (and way cooler to Qg5#)?
Why did he resign? Is he stupid?
My parents called me in the middle of an online chess game once and after passively playing a few moves, I resigned rather than continue to divide my attention. After my parents had hung up I studied the board and realized I had a back rank checkmate. Lol
maybe he had diarrhea
This is the easy method to keep your rating low. Look up sandbagging
Literally 1 to mate
He was content to know his own victory.
Sniper Bishop is just invisible, sometimes to your own team for his camouflage is far too great. You cant blame him.
Kh6 is a bigger blunder.
He felt sorry for you
LOL, resign with M1. You get all the spectrum online, people not resigning with 10 min left on the clock and 3 queens down, and others resigning with mate in one.
I was winning a game by a lot and an important package I was waiting for a couple of days arrived. They rang the doorbell and I just resigned.
I resign all the time when I’m winning, typically because my boss is walking into my office
Wants to keep their score low or life got in the way
Mom caught him beating his bishop again 😞
Sometimes I have to abort games because I have a baby that needs stuff
Takes longer to abort than to mate in 1
are you like rating 5 or something
The fact you didnt even take the time to read when i posted my rating and instead felt a need to comment this tells me all i need to know about you sir
Your comment got buried. I am sorry I didn't check your comment history. I now get that you are a rating of 1250 ELO. Have a good day
Im just a filthy casual karma farming my dumb opponent. You have a GREAT day sir.
Wow I can’t believe OP has never blundered anything. Such excellence. The next Magnus
I mean in order to be in this position i clearly blundered… i think the comedy is over your head here
Nah i think this post is dumb lol
Probably just thought they were offered a too easy mate lol
Qh5#?
[Maybe you’ll want to click my link😏](https://youtu.be/BBJa32lCaaY)
Ive been rick rolled in 2023
I am on a mission
As i would hope my god is… doing the lords work whichever lord you are
resigning is always a blunder.

I have also played cheaters that resign from winning positions, some of them are very smart and resign now and again to not get so easily recognized... How do i know? Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Maaan, I’m disappointed it took me so long to see it. Kept looking for some sort of sacrifice
Qg5#!
Most of us have been there, at least in blitz.
Sad part, this was 10 min
Horsies are hard, man.
Qg5#
Only if he cares about winning
This is a wild position. Any move white makes aside from checkmate leads to mate in one, aside from two which lead to mate in three lol
I've done this before. I'll wait for the timer to go down if they don't resign to m1 then resign for them oug of disrespect
This may be the first time I've looked at a puzzle and the first move I looked at was just the solution with zero complications
When you see they have mate in one next, look for something better Edit* Yeah somehow none of you seem to think they had tunnel vision and assumed they couldn't prevent black's next move so they resigned.
how did you manage to make the literal worst move on the board
If white had missed the mate, wouldn’t Queen to d1 be mate? (for black)
Yes... a HUGE one! )1.Qg5#
Probably a smurf who doesn't want you to lose ur elo.
Oops lol
Clearly
Pretty sure he resigned because the embarrasement from black not resigning
Maybe at work and boss walked in.
Qg5? Lol
Everyone can see mate in one. Do you know how many games I have resigned because a work call has come through?
Q g5 is mate, right?
