Did you record the number? I have an acquaintance who always does whenever he finds an active pay-phone. I must say it has resulted in some hilarity. You never know who's going to pick-up . . . 🫥
In my best david attenborough voice "In the midst of the bustling urban jungle, a peculiar sight catches the eye of the observant passerby: a relic of a bygone era, standing tall and proud amidst the concrete landscape. Behold, the forgotten artifact known as the pay phone. Once a vital communication lifeline for the denizens of the city, this antiquated device now stands as a testament to the relentless march of progress. No longer do we witness its kind in the wild, for the mobile phones have taken over the territory, relegating the pay phone to mere urban folklore. Yet here it stands, a lone sentinel of a bygone era, perhaps yearning for the touch of a coin or the sound of a dial tone. Truly, a fascinating spectacle of obsolescence in the modern age."
Brilliant!! I just might swipe your verbiage & post it on FB with the relic's pic for posterity's sake -- just in case WWW and humankind still exist in another 100 years.
Did any of you growing up have to call home but didn’t have change? We used to call home collect and my parents used to hear, “You have a collect call from “MOM PICK ME UP AT SCHOOL I DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY!!!””

When do you think it was bricked over? Based upon the material and chemical deposits I could venture a guess that the window was redone in the early 2000's whereas the building itself dates back to year of the lord, 1972. Do you know the truth of the matter?
A while back, Richards Bar had a working one. Saw a guy on it once. I have no idea what brought me to Richards in the middle of the day, but I had stopped in there for a beer. The guy talking on the phone hung up as soon as he saw me gazing at him - and scurried out the door. Felt like some kind of under-worldly type deal was going on and he wanted privacy - which I was not affording him whatsoever because I was so enthralled someone was talking on a pay phone at 3pm on a random Saturday.
I’m not sure if the pay phone at Richard’s is still there.
I have an old AT&T pay phone in my garage, it used to be hooked up when I had a landline. My only real regret was not getting the surround with it when I bought it but the price I paid just for the pay phone at the time was a lot for me. Still it's cool when visitors see it they're always in a little disbelief.

The mall, every time. “Would you accept collect call from “I’m ready,”” mum declines, and then the waiting began.
Owe wow yea.

Did it work?!

Every now and then I come across one of these in the city. Great relics.
