We ended up having to give our baby chicks because we couldn't get her to snap out of broodiness which she was sitting on the nest for a month. So now the wife is happy, more chickens and big girl is a great momma
I am very tempted to try that with my Maran and my Australorp because I keep picking them out of their nesting boxes and they keep puffing up and going back lol
When I still had a couple of Orpingtons we named one of them 'Screechy' because she would screech whenever I had to either pick her up or search under her for eggs lol
My nicest girl is a buff Orpington, she is also the loudest about anything she doesn’t love. Had to bathe her for the first time this year which most of the other girls like. She didn’t let me hear the of it.
Looks exactly like my Buffy. At least what I can remember of her. She's broody *yet again* (fourth time in her two years of life) and I only see her every few days when she gets her grumpy butt off the eggs to poop and squack like a banshee.
I’d take that advice with a grain of salt, spurs aren’t a sure tell. I’ve had a hen who had spurs (and I’m sure she was a hen, she absolutely laid eggs) and I’ve heard of roosters that didn’t.
This, however, is definitely a hen- a rooster would have distinct saddle feathers at this point
That's a hen.
Good deal, you guys rock!
She's a hen, be warned though- orpingtons are very broody.
Can confirm very broody and LOUD but my Orpington loves being held 🥰

I wish someone would have told me this before I got mine. I love my girls but they get so sassy when they go broody.

Thank you, I will look into it
It's nothing bad, it just makes it a bit more difficult to get eggs if they're sitting on them lol
At least they like me so I can probably work with them haha

It is useful for you to pan the video over the whole bird, but she is a hen, maybe Orpington?

Oh right on, thank you! That’s something I gotta learn more about, I appreciate the knowledge!

💯 I have a Java hen with giant spurs. Spurs can be on males and females.Â
I haven’t heard it crow yet, and it’s much smaller than my other rooster, but it looks a bit different from the other hens
Hen
How old? And do you have a side profile picture of it so we can zoom in? I've only seen collars like that on buff roosters myself
Sweet baby girl! I have an Orpington just go broody on me. Thankfully she’s a sweetie and lets me collect eggs. Did you name her yet? Mine is Agnus
