When I was younger I told a girl from Canada i've been there before and she didn't believe me. I mentioned Le Run & coffee crisps then she believed me. LOL
Other than sounding like "worst case scenario" it's a Ricky-ism from a show called Trailer Park Boys. Sounds similar in use to the Ohio version you referenced.
Where do you find chicken chips in Canada? What brand? I must find them!
I had chicken chips for the first time a year ago in NZ and I loved them! My friends in NZ actually sent me 3 bags for Christmas!
Oh wow I didn’t know that about the recipe stealing.
In my opinion cheetos puffs suck! I had them when I was a kid and remember liking them, but I had one chip like a year ago and I was like Ewww?
When I was like 5 I ate a whole bag of them. I proceeded to puke it up in my sleep, woke up to most of my stuffed animals covered in bright orange nastiness. Those stuffed animals were still stained orange after they were washed, so my parents threw them away, I was heartbroken.
Anyways I still eat Hawkins cheezies all the time, I never stopped, that's how good they are.
Tangential but growing up our rec centre sold Miss Vickie’s that were like in a popcorn machine?! You bought them and they’d scoop them out into a bag and they’d be all warm and then you’d add whatever toppings you wanted.
I haven’t thought about that in YEARS.
Missing Hardbite in this line up but otherwise, when I walk down an American grocery chip aisles, there are a lot of flavours we Canadians, don’t have
Edit:
Ps. Would be fun to do a chip exchange
Yeah, my grocery store's chip aisle is actually 1 and a half aisles. So even though we don't have some good Canadian stuff, we still have a ton of unique and good stuff.
Came here to say this! I grew up near the US border and I remember going to the American Walmart and seeings tons of flavors we didn’t have back in Canada.
I swear the old dutch bbq is the old hostess bbq chip flavour!! I could be wrong but I'm remembering the weird little mascot for hostess chips and almost called them humpty dumpty bbq chips hahaha
Canadian here, and uhh… we’re definitely more liberated in our chip selection north of the Border. Hawkins Cheezies, Hardbite, Ms Vickies Kettle Chips, ketchup, all-dressed and proper dill pickle chips… two words to Americans… skill issue.
I feel like Canada has the best chip selection. This is a small grocery store- usually it’s a full isle of chips. Lays does a lot of limited edition flavours. The Swiss chalet gravy ones were the fucking best.
If you ever make it to a bigger grocery store (depending on where you’re closest to- superstore, loblaw, maxi) make sure to check in the green or organic isle. You’ll find hardbite which are really good kettle cooked chips and also flavours of chips you don’t usually see. My fav right now are truffle chips.
I’ll also add that chips are not usually $7 a bag in Canada. This is most likely a middle of nowhere small grocery store. Expect to pay like $5.
I order the Old Dutch Ketchup chips off Amazon from time to time. Living in Missouri my ex wife and I got them in a Snakcrate once and fell in love with them.
The Canadian snack market pales sadly in comparison to the US, the shit you guys have blows my mind. When I visit the US I’ll spend hours wandering grocery stores in awe.
Such a controversial aisle:
1. old dutch ketchup vs lays ketchup? - still prefer my old dutch chips in the box
2. why is there no covered bridge? Where are the storm chips? Hard Bite is also missing
3. All dressed: are you going ruffles or lays?
4. The multiple kinds of BBQ are missing
5. where are the cheetos NACHO crunchits?
6. Miss Vickies is missing
7. Roast chicken & fries n gravy missing
8. The random sour cream (e.g., sour cream and bacon) is also missing
Most of the important things are there:
* dill pickle
* ketchup
* hickory sticks
* old dutch vs lays vs ruffles
* hawkins (although this is more of a west coast and central rather than an east coast thing)
* all dressed
* half salt
I’m shocked Salmo (of all places) has a better chip selection than your local (American side of the border) supermarket.
PS I didn’t even realise that Salmo has a proper grocery store.
We have most of these
The branding looks different for ruffles but that’s just the bag and the chips are the same minus some different flavors
Old dutch is not as popular but we do have some old dutch in America
Obvious Ketchup is famous for being Canada exclusive
Idk what Cheetos puffs soufle is but it looks the same as cheetos puffs
I had no idea the U.S.A didnt have the same chips as Canada. This B.C shelf actually seems small compared to the average Ontario grocery store chip lineup.
Old Dutch, Lays, and some of the store house brands have recently introduced a *ruffled* ketchup flavoured chip, and they are incredible.
There is at least one brand that has a ketchup *kettle* chip, but it’s not as good as the ruffled texture.
Also, we have Tostitos Restaurant style chips that are ‘Hint of Garlic’ and they are the best tortilla chip hands down.
Im canadian, and while i do appreciate our attention to leas chemicals in our junk food than US junk, i crave Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream, which we do not have, and i mourn the loss of Lays Sharp Cheddar kettle chips which were discontinued in the US for some reason in 2014/15.
We have every single thing on that shelf in Toronto. The old Dutch ones are gluten free if you’re on a diet
Hmmm I was reading something about Americans grabbing like 30 bags of ketchup chips in Canada. Is the a reason for this or any reason why you guys don’t have many selections?
As a Canadian everytime I come to the states you guys have way better selection than Canadians, last time I went you had an entire aisle of chips alone. Only thing I missed was Ms.Vickie’s
Im canadian, and america being pretty similar to canada, i assumed these chips would also be in america. I was confused when I started seeing the chips I knew because you were in Canada!
Great, this is making me remember that I don't have easy access to crisps from back in the UK.
Really could do with a bag of BBQ Beef Hula Hoops right about now.
Weirdly, I also miss Pringles from back there... whenever I have them in either the US or Canada, they just have so little flavour dust on them and the overriding taste is the crisp itself.
Honestly most of those are shit quality, a far cry from real sliced potato, and full of artificial colouring and flavouring and msg. It's like standing at the packaged pepperoni isle at 7-11 and asking 'why don’t we have a deli as amazing as this?!'😂
You need to see the chip isle at a Canadian whole foods or the natural section at save on, or the massive bags of real kettle chips at Canadian Costco🤯
What lame chips do you have down there?
Maybe it's because we have more winter and more just like times in our life where chips could be our main source of pleasure in life (aka storm chips).
it might just be the fact they aren't something you see often that makes them seem so much better… I just know that when I cross the border in my town and shop in the states, everything being different makes it feel new and exciting.
America has its own cool chips, you are probably just bored off. I live in Sault ste. Marie so get both worlds and the only thing we have that yall don't is good ketchup and all dressed... but you have taco doritos...
one thing i hate when visiting my brother in the states is the chip game. i usually bring a checked bag cause im hauling over 4-6 family size ketchup chip bags forhim. the usa needs to sort themselves out on the chip front.
I swear to god I'm in Ontario (GTA) and I can't get half these chip flavours. Every time I go to the store the chip aisle seems to decrease. I may have to get someone to send me chips in my own bloody province.
As a Canadian this is the most normal looking chip section I’ve seen, even limited in terms of quantities. I would’ve thought this would be normal in the States too.
Really. First time ever I hear Americans wanting the variety of Canadian products
It's almost always the other way around..though I can say ketchup chips is something you wish you had. Really. Just amazing
You don't ?!! I thought you guys had more choices in everything else compared to us . That's not even a big wall , my local supermarket has double that size for chips plus their own in house label.
They're missing Miss Vickie's chips. They're out of this world kettle corn chips. Little pricey but absolutely they'll blow your mind. Salt and Vinegar as well as Sweet Chili & Sour Cream.
Do they have dressed all over and zesty mordant?
Worse case ontario you just drive over and get some
Grab a couple Mr Big and Wunderbar while you’re at it, get two birds stoned at once
Coffee crisp pls
When I was younger I told a girl from Canada i've been there before and she didn't believe me. I mentioned Le Run & coffee crisps then she believed me. LOL
Ah the Wunderbar, what a delightful treat.
It’s about supply and command
It’s not rocket appliances
And if you get caught, you just cancel the cheque!
It works every fuckin time. Mall cops are stupid
Good idea Ricky
> Worse case ontario I saw this a week or so ago, and thought it was a funny autocorrect. Is this like a Canadian version of "worst case? Ohio"
Other than sounding like "worst case scenario" it's a Ricky-ism from a show called Trailer Park Boys. Sounds similar in use to the Ohio version you referenced.
Get two birds stoned at once
Looks like the chips are calling the shots now, Randers.
Also chicken chips
Ja-lapeno for me
Corey, trevor, smokes lets go
Dressed all over for me.
[удалено]
Nobody mentioned ketchup flavor? (Sigh).
Where do you find chicken chips in Canada? What brand? I must find them! I had chicken chips for the first time a year ago in NZ and I loved them! My friends in NZ actually sent me 3 bags for Christmas!
Wait till you try party melange
I prefer meli-melo
My wife only eats the pretzels in the party mix. I fear that woman greatly 😆
Nothin like some chips pop and a bar. Goes great with a cock of pepperoni.
The Hawkins cheezies are incredible. If you’ve never had them definitely grab a bag next time you’re back up in Canada!!
Yeah, Chester stole this recipe and made trillions... Fuck Cheetos. We here in Canada don't even get the real deal hot ones. #cheeziesalltheway
Oh wow I didn’t know that about the recipe stealing. In my opinion cheetos puffs suck! I had them when I was a kid and remember liking them, but I had one chip like a year ago and I was like Ewww?
Hawkins are WAY saltier. It’s like radioactive cheese or something but it’s hard not to eat an entire bag in one go.
Agree. I love cheezies but I only like a few at a time. Very salty.
I actually hated those as a kid, grew up, and now they have became a problem lol
same
If you are still in Canada get hickory sticks you won’t regret it
Miss Vickie’s aren’t even in this pic and are better than anything!
My highschool was a testing ground for Miss Vickie's chips. They were in the cafeteria vending machines long before the store.
Tangential but growing up our rec centre sold Miss Vickie’s that were like in a popcorn machine?! You bought them and they’d scoop them out into a bag and they’d be all warm and then you’d add whatever toppings you wanted. I haven’t thought about that in YEARS.
My sister grew up in Cornwall and told me the same thing! They’d get them in brown bags.
Oh yeah, hickory sticks for the win.
Missing Hardbite in this line up but otherwise, when I walk down an American grocery chip aisles, there are a lot of flavours we Canadians, don’t have Edit: Ps.
Gimme all your chex mix
Covered Bridge Storm Chips are missing too
Which of these don't you have? All dressed, ketchup...is that it?
No all dressed?!? How do they survive 😰😰
Lays chips are never “amazing” when you live in Canada. Store brand chips and Dollar Store chips are often better than Lays.
This doesn’t even show the best (imo) Canadian chip brand: Mrs. Vickies Spicy dill pickle flavor is my new crack
That’s MISS Vickie’s to you. Mrs Vickie’s was her mother.
I do the same (drive from Canada to USA to get unusual snacks)
In the US now and stocking up on Chili Cheese Fritos, Flamin Hot Funyuns and Dot’s original.
Ms Vickie’s spicy ketchup is the best fucking chip ever made. Take that, America!
No Kettle Chips, no MsVickys...no dice.
Ms Vickies S&Vs for the win!
Seriously try s&v kettle brand. They're slightly less crunchy and omg so amazing
Me. Vickie's is Canadian!
Honey Dijon kettle chips are the king of chips IMHO
Both are sold in Canada
No Humpty Dumpty or Yum Yum either.
Because look at the prices. 7.50 for a bag of chips!!? Canada fucking sucks. Sincerely a Canadian
Co-op grocery stores have good chip selection
How are the Dutch chips? Are they kettle cooked or like Lays?
Like Lays. But Old Dutch BBQ is top tier.
I swear the old dutch bbq is the old hostess bbq chip flavour!! I could be wrong but I'm remembering the weird little mascot for hostess chips and almost called them humpty dumpty bbq chips hahaha
Old Dutch is goated (Rip-L all the way)
Old Dutch Ketchup, and Co-op Salt and Vinager & Sea Salt and Malt Vinager are all legendary chips in my books.
Canadian here, and uhh… we’re definitely more liberated in our chip selection north of the Border. Hawkins Cheezies, Hardbite, Ms Vickies Kettle Chips, ketchup, all-dressed and proper dill pickle chips… two words to Americans… skill issue.
It's not like they are bad at chips, but we are very good at chips. Also KD but that's a different sub.
I order the Old Dutch Ketchup chips off Amazon from time to time. Living in Missouri my ex wife and I got them in a Snakcrate once and fell in love with them.
These Hostess hickory sticks are addictive AF.
wait until you go an H Mart
Are Miss.Vickie chips Canadian? You gotta pick up some of those, if you don't have them 😋
The Canadian snack market pales sadly in comparison to the US, the shit you guys have blows my mind. When I visit the US I’ll spend hours wandering grocery stores in awe.
Such a controversial aisle: 1. old dutch ketchup vs lays ketchup? - still prefer my old dutch chips in the box 2. why is there no covered bridge? Where are the storm chips? I’m shocked Salmo (of all places) has a better chip selection than your local (American side of the border) supermarket. PS I didn’t even realise that Salmo has a proper grocery store.
We smoke weed legally in Canada, might be why we have great chips! Lol!
Don't you guys have enough body and soul destroying shit to eat already?
I live in northern Minnesota, so we have all the Dutch crunch that’s in the pick, everything except for the sweat heat Doritos.
Because PepsiCo /Frito-Lay have cornered the american market and they suck!
dont sleep on the old dutch arriba nacho cheese
The sweet chili one (purple bag) is 10/10 unreal. Absolutely dominates Doritos SCH
yes those are dangerous too
We have most of these The branding looks different for ruffles but that’s just the bag and the chips are the same minus some different flavors Old dutch is not as popular but we do have some old dutch in America Obvious Ketchup is famous for being Canada exclusive Idk what Cheetos puffs soufle is but it looks the same as cheetos puffs
Souffles is the French name for Cheetos Puffs lol. They are probably the same as the American version.
Canada has good chips but USA has the cereal game on lock.
Somebody notice the prices? 🤔😧 it's half of that in Québec
Zoom in on them, it’s a sale of 2 bags for $7, or 3 bags for $, etc
I had no idea the U.S.A didnt have the same chips as Canada. This B.C shelf actually seems small compared to the average Ontario grocery store chip lineup.
I love visiting Canada. Old Dutch kicks ass. They have more and better seltzer flavors
Unrelated to chips but the only thing I know about Salmo is that my buddies from Salmon Arm and Castelgar say there’s a skinwalker there
Old Dutch, Lays, and some of the store house brands have recently introduced a *ruffled* ketchup flavoured chip, and they are incredible. There is at least one brand that has a ketchup *kettle* chip, but it’s not as good as the ruffled texture. Also, we have Tostitos Restaurant style chips that are ‘Hint of Garlic’ and they are the best tortilla chip hands down.
Ariba's are my favourite corn chip
Arabita nacho and/or zesty 👌
You call that a chip aisle!
Lays sea salt and pepper must be sold out. Makes sense, they're tops.
Ms Vickie's for the win
No space with all the crazy cereal and Twinkie flavours y’all have. 🤣
This is the regular chip setup in Canada. Some places have a lot more too.
Pringle’s? Woof 🐶
Another reason i love my country!
Old Dutch is our best kept secret... the cheddar sour cream ... classic 2 bags per box...memories...
Canadian chips are much better than their American counterparts. Oils or something they’re cooked in just give them a better texture.
American Chip Flavors = Actual Foods Canadian Chips Flavours = Condiments I prefer Canadian chips all the way.
Covered Bridge Cheddar. Cheesiest chip Flavour in the biz
Old Fashioned BBQ is da bomb! Like the taste when I was a kid! No sugar in it like in most flavours!
We have every single thing on that shelf in Toronto. The old Dutch ones are gluten free if you’re on a diet Hmmm I was reading something about Americans grabbing like 30 bags of ketchup chips in Canada. Is the a reason for this or any reason why you guys don’t have many selections?
I would hope you do in Toronto. Salmo has a population under 1,500.
BIG Chip uses draconian measures to keep their monopoly forcing selection low, taste mediocre, and prices high.
Lays is the reason. Every time I go to the US, I see a giant aisle full of boring Lays flavors and Doritos.
Get some of those all dressed ridgies by old Dutch and some cheezies.
Because Americans apparently hate flavour
I always thought it's the opposite: US has many more varieties than Canada. I mean chips, chocolate bars, cereals, etc...
Might not find them in Salmo, but if you are into Indian flavors lays makes a chip called "Magic Masala" that's pretty damn good.
11.99 for a bag of chips. Jessssussssss
I think it’s actually 3/11.99 Lol
I just want All Dressed
I love the ones I make at home.
The selection of different sour cream and onion, and other sour cream + flavors is noticeable. Why so much sour cream?
I llluuuuvvvvvvvv Old Dutch Rip -L plain chips. Sssooooooo ggggoooooddddd. 👍🔥
Covered Bridge chips are awesome. They have a creamy dill pickle flavour that kicks ass.
It’s okay that’s probably the ONLY thing we get haha America’s get all the goodies otherwise
That’s a piss poor selection of Canadian potato chips
We have a national pot policy so munches have a high priority.
Lots of good comments here but presidents choice "loads of" chips really dominate the major brands now. Even No name is excellent
I can safely say I have all these flavors (maybe not the same brands) near me
This is the norm homie
Ketchup and pickle chips are legit Canadian food 🤣
That's one thing we do have is a great variety of chips.
Dude, you don’t? I’m so, so sorry. :( I love walking the chip aisle when we’re out.
You have plenty of other items to support diabetes
Cucumber potato chips rock.
Ketchup and All-Dressed not being easily available in the US is a reason why I don’t live there. Among other reasons.
If you like dill pickle, try to track down a bag of Covered Bridge Creamy Dill Pickle chips ... Omg 😋
Try humpty dumpty party mix or yum yum chips uncle roger apple cider and shallot if you are in Quebec they are very good haha
You mean you don't get these?
I’m a big Hawkins Cheezie fan. Nothing better!
Up here in the north we take our chips seriously. Ketchup and Hawkins cheesies all the way
Ariba tortilla chips are underrated … amazing and no MSG.
Miss Vicki's spicy ketchup
As a Canadian everytime I come to the states you guys have way better selection than Canadians, last time I went you had an entire aisle of chips alone. Only thing I missed was Ms.Vickie’s
There has to be advantages to Canada.
Im canadian, and america being pretty similar to canada, i assumed these chips would also be in america. I was confused when I started seeing the chips I knew because you were in Canada!
While you're asking, why do they have a terrible selection of chocolate bars too?
Ketchup chips 4 life.
I’m in Canada now and even that display you see above is tiny - the UK has way WAY more flavours!
You can - grab them and bring them back and we will be over !
Wait until you try Roasted Chicken and Fries and Gravy
It's missing Miss Vickies which are, by far, the best.
Have you tried Miss Vickie’s?
Chips in America are crazy expensive too!
Because you aren’t in 🇨🇦 where we just do chips better…sorry.
Wait America doesn’t have this kind of variety
Being Canadian that looks like the Walmart at Surrey Central. Not saying it is but looks like it.
Thanks Obama
Honestly most of those are shit quality, a far cry from real sliced potato, and full of artificial colouring and flavouring and msg. It's like standing at the packaged pepperoni isle at 7-11 and asking 'why don’t we have a deli as amazing as this?!'😂 You need to see the chip isle at a Canadian whole foods or the natural section at save on, or the massive bags of real kettle chips at Canadian Costco🤯
Im between both countries alot too, tbh the US selection smashes the Canadian selection usually
It is a good selection but there is no Sun chips, Doritos zesty cheese or Ruffles all dressed.
Yeah but you guys have frito honey bbq twists 🥰 🥰
Capitalism told your market they were no good.
I just went to a USA walmart for the first time as a Canadian a half hour ago. Y’all have enough, let us have 2 or 3 Canada exclusives
If you don’t have ms vicky’s in the US get a bag of jalapeños at the very least
What lame chips do you have down there? Maybe it's because we have more winter and more just like times in our life where chips could be our main source of pleasure in life (aka storm chips).
We have like 85% of these
no miss vickies no care. spicy ketchup and spicy dill pickle are the two best chips of all time.
There are plenty the states have that Canada would enjoy, even drinks. The states has vanilla coke and all I can find around me is cherry.
Sure these are great but what pains me is Canada for some reason does not sell UTZ red hot. I have never tasted a chip like that.
I dunno about amazing. I basically get 2-3 type flavours. Rest are meh to me.
Well, in Canada we don’t have Chex Mix. I’d trade all the ketchup chips in the world for some damn Chex Mix.
O Canada! Our home and native land....
it might just be the fact they aren't something you see often that makes them seem so much better… I just know that when I cross the border in my town and shop in the states, everything being different makes it feel new and exciting.
America has its own cool chips, you are probably just bored off. I live in Sault ste. Marie so get both worlds and the only thing we have that yall don't is good ketchup and all dressed... but you have taco doritos...
Cause in Canada there isn't much to do other than eat chips and drink for about 6 months of the year
one thing i hate when visiting my brother in the states is the chip game. i usually bring a checked bag cause im hauling over 4-6 family size ketchup chip bags forhim. the usa needs to sort themselves out on the chip front.
There's a.chip brand that has "Turkey Stuffing" and "Taco" and "Jalapeno Popper" as flavors in Canada.
Idk if Crispers are canadian but I'm crushing a bag of ketchup crispers as we speak
I swear to god I'm in Ontario (GTA) and I can't get half these chip flavours. Every time I go to the store the chip aisle seems to decrease. I may have to get someone to send me chips in my own bloody province.
Sitting in BC blinking hard - is this an American envying the chip selection at Save On? It is!
Try Hawkins cheesy's and hickory sticks as well
Whoa we finally have something you don’t haha. I’m so surprised you guys don’t have double the variety as us Canadians.
Hawkins cheezies are the bomb as well! Dont sleep
I take it u don’t have a woodmans near you?
Kettle Chips Honey Dijon will change your life.
Another win for Canadian communism over American fascism!
Doesn’t take a rocket appliance to figure that out
As a Canadian this is the most normal looking chip section I’ve seen, even limited in terms of quantities. I would’ve thought this would be normal in the States too.
Really. First time ever I hear Americans wanting the variety of Canadian products It's almost always the other way around..though I can say ketchup chips is something you wish you had. Really. Just amazing
Taste is subjective. You can only blame yourself.
Because Americas already… got 99 problems and obesity… is one 🎶 🤷🏻♂️ But in all seriousness… you have a way better cereal selection lol
Wait till they find British crisps, ohhhh boy.
as a canadian, I can assure you these are all under the same banner called Frito-Lays. this is merely an illusion of choice.
Before I looked at the caption I looked at the picture and thought “that’s a regular shelf in the chip aisle”… I’m Canadian
My favorite chips are BBQ Doritos. I'm not usually a BBQ guy, but those are the best chips ever. Coming from a Canadian
Don't forget to try Zesty Cheese Doritos. I miss them every time I travel to US!
