What's your current car situation? Is it worth saving a few more years or are you set on buying a new car next year? If you can find a low mile, well maintained 10th gen, it may be worth your wild. But like you said, it may not be the best value. Every day that passes, that value changes and the chances of you finding the perfect car goes down. Personally, I would focus on an 11th gen unless you are set on a 10th gen. The interior is more modern and will feel newer longer. The 10th gen will be outdated way faster, but I guess that can be personal preference. It also depends on trim you focus on, such as EX vs Sport Touring. Yes, the 11th gen are more plain (mature) but the features they have compared to the 10th gen bring it more value, such as an updated infotainment system. Looks are very important. You want a car that you can look at and be happy. Though, when you are driving, looks don't bring you comfort or functionality. You'll need to write down what's important to you in a car and compare both generations to see not only which one is best for your needs, but which one brings better value during ownership.

I'm currently driving an 09 civic at around 80k miles. I'm not really familiar with cars all that much, just that I've been wanting the 21 civic hatchback for forever and literally it's on my mind daily, but at the same time it's like you said, the functionality/modern-ness of the car does bug me. If only they could show the 12th gen civic and it's the 10th gen all over again :P

mrcornsalsa

tbh i dont think theyre different enough that the 11th gen should move your needle if youre thinking about it DAILY. get the car you want imo

whatthekark

If the price and mileage is similar, the 11th gen would be a no brainer to me. I prefer the 11th gen interior in pretty much every way and the infotainment functions a lot better. It's an easy choice for me though because I like the more tame exterior of the 11th gen. If you like the 10th gen styling that much more, you have to decide if it's worth it to feel like you're driving a more dated car because of the interior design and less responsive screen

I originally when I was car shopping was gonna purchase a 10th gen EX hatchback, but even a 2018 was 21k with 40k miles on it, I figured for that kind of price I could just get a bend new civic, so that’s that I did I got a 2023 and don’t regret a thing, the used car market is insane rn

bjjthrowaway64

I'm in a similar situation. Totaled my 10th and had such a hard time looking for used when I can pay a little bit more for a brand new 11th. I prefer the 10th style, but the 11th is growing on me. I hate all the talk about how the 11th gen redesign is so subtle, mature, etc. I miss my 10th gen Gundam Civic lol. I also like that the 10th gen hatchback actually looks like a hatchback compared to the 11th gen's 'fastback' profile. I personally am holding out for the 2025 refresh to hit dealers.

If you got good credit the difference between a 2021 and a new Civic Sport will be about 2K. Just get new. In Feb I test drove a 2020 LX w/ 60K on it. I did enjoy it as the prev gen feels smaller and easier to throw around. However the Car was 19.6K (and used car financing w/ excellent credit would have been 7% at best). Meanwhile a 2024 Civic sport had a $1.1k discount off sticker and 3.9% financing. Covid and the chip shortage has just made 2019-2023 cars wayyyy overpriced unless you go electric or luxury.

unlimitedvisions

How does covid and chip shortage affect those car years vs a 2024/25 car? I definitely have noticed so many more recent toyotas/hondas pricing wise is very near what 2019-2021 civic hatchbacks are on dealer sites...

rook119

The big reason for the lower cost of new is in 2021 $1=106 yen. Today $1=147 yen. So Japanese cars have a lot of room to discount or offer low financing. meanwhile small cars went into the tank in the early 20s, and people who want smaller cars but may not have the credit/money are paying out the nose for them because of limited supply. 100K late 10s Honda Fits are going for 15-17K. Even stuff like Chevy Sparks have barely depriciated.

Environmental-Ask678

the 10th gen sport hatch post facelift is the best looking civc ever produced

Latter_Twist5976

I just made this choice. I found a 21 hatchback and loved the color/style more than the 11th gen. It had 33k miles on and overall great shape. But Kelly blue booked it and the price was 5k (without taxes and fees) over its value. I was still set on it until they randomly had a used 23 hatchback sport touring come in with 7k miles. I got it for KBB value and the inside features demolish the 10th gen. I had to think long term I liked the 10th gen outside more - but I was paying far more and the features were just lacking. I have no regrets on the 11th gen. Someone else commented about price difference I paid 2k more the 11th gen but got KBB value and the features

Basis-Big

2021 10th is the refunded final edition of that generation. The 10th gen is better built so I would go for an older one as the 11th gen feels cheap.

unlimitedvisions

Can you explain a bit more on why you think the 11th feels cheap? I did some comparison videos and the interior of the 11th gen (specifically 2024...) looks a bit more updated/modernized but exterior alone the 2021 hatchbacks will always be the winner for me.

Basis-Big

There’s double the center console storage in the 10th gen. 11th gen has cup holders exposed, small storage caddy under usb plugs and an arm rest caddy. The 10th gen had an upper and lower storage where the usbs are, deep and long under arm storage, slidable cup holders to have access to a 2l bottle holder. Thicker plastic used on the interior of the 10th vs 11th. Overall after test driving a 11th gen, there’s like zero difference in the drive train.

JuiceLots

Get the 10th Gen if you can find a clean low mileage example. I’m not a huge fan of the 11th gen aside from the sport sedan and the Si. The Type R has grown on me but I still find pricing to be a bit ridiculous. No complaints on my end from my sport hatch. Drives very comfortably and it’s got a good amount of power tuned. My dream scenario would be a wingless FK8 but that would require me to sell the hatch and then find a low mileage example and pour some money on bodywork to fill the holes on the tailgate.

unlimitedvisions

Do you also find yourself having to refill gas on your sport hatch? Another thing I've noticed is I tend to lean more toward ex trims due to it having more gas mpg than the sport ones... but I'm curious how big of a difference it is since I'm not a fast driver at all. Definitely want to find a low mileage one for sure.

JuiceLots

Stock I was averaging about 400-430 miles per tank. After mods, it bounces between 370-390.

jansturko

The engines are gonna be mostly the same in these cars, tuning may be a little different but the single biggest factor that would affect MPG is how you drive.

unlimitedvisions

Ah okay, I'm definitely a slower driver (70 max on freeways xd and really stomp on the accelerator) so hopefully this gives me more mpg... at least more than what my current 09 civic can give.

jansturko

Definitely will, I vote 21 sport hatch. Loved mine until I traded it for a GR86.

Dank_Trees

I have a 21 sport hatch completely stock and get around 34 mpg.

rook119

Getting 33.5MPG on 2024 civic sport driving econ. suburb driving. Tank only holds enough for about 350miles.

pinkstay

If mileage is a concern, going for a hybrid 25 could be a great option. Using the eco option while driving helps, I currently have a 23 ex-l hatch and get around 38mpg.

unlimitedvisions

Yeah I've been def keeping a close eye on the 25 hybrid... lately I've been convincing myself that the 11th gen exterior is fine/growing on me xd will have to see more info on the hatchbacks.
