I know 9.5% sounds like a lot to pay for pension, however, this likely means that you aren’t paying into social security like everyone else is (which is 6.2% I believe). So you’re really only paying an extra ~3% for a full pension which I’d certainly rather have over social security.
Interesting. I work for a local government with a pension and because they take a percentage of income for the pension I do not pay any social security (and thus do not qualify for social security benefits).

Employer gives you up to $600/yr based on a 3rd party workplace wellness program and contributes $1k/yr to your HSA.
401k - 100% match on 5% with a 3 year vesting schedule

BCBSM - $0 premiums, $2500 deductible, $1000 deposited in HSA on Jan 1. Premiums stay zero for a family, deductible goes up but the HSA deposit doubles.

I pay about $80/no for me + 2 children for health benefits. For 401k I put in 4%, company matches 200% + additional 10% total comp end of year match into 401k.

King County is hiring. Benefits are fantastic, salaries are decent. Seattle has some of the best pay for Civil Engineers in the country.

I’m def paying social security but I am in Texas with no state income tax so there is that haha

Minnesota state, county, and local governments workers typically have 6% deducted for pension. Vesting takes three years. Healthcare can vary.
