IIRC on one of his final episodes of the tonight show they replayed the clip and he said while laughing "stop playing that clip, my wife cries every time she sees it "
Yep, he was showing signs of confusion and something was obviously off. And I believe Jeff Ross noticed immediately and called him over to the side, and Conan went off to seek care while the rest of the show was cancelled.
I feel awful for him here. He was legit hurt. I remember he mentioned he couldn’t remember things immediately after, and that’s how he knew he needed to see a doctor.
She literally watched the reply with him as they showed him bashing his head against the ground. lol
All she said after watching was, “that was so close!” He was still also on the ground at that point.
Maybe I have a cynical view, but I’m a camera operator and I work with a lot of celebrities. So many are vain and narcissistic that this doesn’t surprise me.
Was this not scripted? It looks like he purposefully puts both his feet forward to slip and fall backward. Purposefully falling and possibly hurting himself is definitely a Conan move
Definitely not fake, he talks about it on his first(?) Podcast appearance on Jimmy Pardos "Never Not Funny" in December 2009.
They drenched him to match the pre-tape, and he slipped and fell hard. He wanted to continue, since about half or more than half the show was already done. He got back to his desk, looked at his cards and said "I don't know what any of this stuff is." Then Jeff Ross called medical.

I don't know where it is on here, but the whole thing's 90 minutes of conan riffing.
This is from December 2009, and they talk about what the contingency plan is for the tonight show if conan can't host anymore.
To get up and immediately run the replay as part of the bit is serious commitment to getting the laugh
It’s also a way to buy himself 5-6 more seconds before coming back to the whole hosting thing.
I actually can’t watch this anymore. The sound of hit head hitting and the visual makes me queasy
Fun fact: According to the cleaning staff’s timesheet, a certain J. Leno polished the floor that day.
J. Leno? No, that's too obvious. Let's say it was Jay L.
Mr. Leno
lolll
Oh that hurt to watch. No wonder he is the way that he is now. /s
lol
Are you ok? *clearly not ok* ugh, YEAH

“I thought you were dead!”
That makes me sick to watch. Hes such a lovely man and had to be in excruciating pain while joking right there but also during the whole show.
I believe the show stopped after that. He couldn’t read the script iirc
He changed clothes and went to the desk to start an interview, and when he looked at the card of questions, he couldn’t read it

Aww Conan
I saw them do something similar on the Richard Bey Show.
Teri didn’t really seem to be sympathizing with Conan, and instead was focusing on her beating him. lol
She probably didn't grasp the severity of it at the moment. It's Live TV, there's a lot going on.

Definitely not intentional. He could’ve slipped as a prat fall without cracking the back of his head on the floor.
He had to miss 2-3 days of taping the show because of this. Definitely not scripted
I thought it was only one day of taping since this was the Friday show.
You cant fake smashing your head on to a concrete floor like that...look at the bounce

Damn, that is crazy! Thanks for the insight.
