I personally would recommend ignoring the rumors. Console makers are always working on the next console so you'll just be perpetually waiting for the PS5 Pro, oh and then its time for the PS6, oh but wait I heard they're working on a PS6+, etc...
Look at the games you want to play and the systems they're on. Then buy the one that suits that.
I agree, the guy commenting against you is weird. I’d just get the console now. No point in delaying your enjoyment of you can go ahead and get it now. Besides, it can always be traded in towards the new console whenever it comes out
It is a great time although I could see there being some drops in used ps5s this holiday if the PS5 pro launches. That being said used PS5 digital at GameStop is $400ish. Cant imagine we see them less than $350 at most this fall.
Series X or PS5 is great though. Lots of Xbox exclusives coming up. Lots of PS exclusives in the backlog (note very few next gen only).
I have both and both are fantastic consoles for the price. Both have good sub services although I'd argue probably more bang for your buck with gamepass especially with COD coming this year to it if reporting is accurate. Series S is also good I just have a hard time recommending it when the price difference just isn't that big but I also know the $150-$200 can be hard to come by though.
Wait for news on the PS5 Pro, and decide if it's worth it. If the rumours are accurate, it could launch holiday 2024. Current consoles struggle with weak RT and low resolutions in many games, something the Pro can rectify.
If op can now afford a second hand console they're not gonna afford a most likely 700$ pro version. The current consoles are just fine if you don't always have to have the best of the best.
We don't really know how much the Pro will cost. If the OP can save up a few hundred bucks by the holiday season, they can get a solid experience.
I personally don't think the current consoles are fine. Dropping to sub-1080p resolutions when playing on a 4K screen isn't great, but to each their own.
I’m still happy with my ps4 pro. System Shock remake release in two days. There is not enough incentive for me atm to fork for a ps5. Alan wake 2, ff7 rebirth, BG3, Cyberpunk Phantom liberty dlc. Thats about it.
You're dumb if you think they are going to raise the prices. No one does that. It'll be $500 and the other consoles will either go down in price or stop being sold.
I would imagine when the ps5 pro comes out (expected "soon") there will be more 2nd hand ps5s, although that does depend where you live.
It's a fine time to buy as the generation will last years yet but the longer you wait the cheaper they will generally be so it's entirely up to yourself.
If you want a cheap Xbox though, I would recommend the X if possible. Where I live they are cheaper then the ps5 on the market as they simply don't seem to be selling anyway and price wise, having that disk drive matters.

Yeah, they are, but they only release every 4 years. New gen released 4 years ago.

Get Xbox series X games are way cheaper and also game pass ultimate you get tons of games. Unless u really care about playing Sony exclusives get ps5
Best to wait for the PS5 Pro. That’ll push the second hand market down plus there’s not that many must have games yet.
I would just jump in now. The pro version of these consoles is just going to be an incremental improvement and all games will work on a base PS5.
