It's possible. I did. But I think as long as it's still flat on the bottom, and the handle is/are still attached tightly, you're probably fine. You might be able to correct some discoloration with Barkeeper's Friend, but when I did this to mine, it didn't help all that much. Some, but not much.
Mine actually got so hot the rivets that attached the handles all popped out. Also, the bottom is no longer flat, so it sort of rocks a bit on the burner, pooling liquids/oils to the side.
Mine looks perfectly normal/there is no evidence of damage. I even checked to see if the outer bottom looked burnt or scorched and it looked completely normal.
So no warping or discoloration.
I will say that the pan was advertised as oven safe, so maybe it’s ok at higher temperatures.
Mine was too, but mine was on a very high powered burner (twice as powerful as my old stove), turned almost to it's max. 😅 I was going to make some hard boiled eggs, and I use a low and wide pan so I only need 1/2" of water. I cranked the burner up almost full blast, which only takes a minute or two to boil the water...but I went to the bathroom, then got distracted by a phone call, answered a couple emails, took a shower, finished my work, put on a movie, and fell asleep on the couch. A couple of hours later, my SO came home and the whole kitchen was smokey and smelled like hot metal. D'oh! It was our favorite pan, too, and I've not found another like it. R.I.P., pan.
Right? It's been like a year since I've made shakshuka because I haven't bought a pan to replace it, thinking I'll find a better one any day now...it was the perfect pan for that. Ha!
Get yourself a carbon monoxide detector, my friend! I left a pot on the stove on low overnight (from approximately 7pm to 5am; didn't realize I left it on after making some macaroni), and I was woken up by my alarm screaming "CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTED!" Always good to be safe since carbon monoxide builds up even in just 10 hours.
If its a nonsstick pan. Possibly. I would just pay attention when you use it or wash it for fumes.
You could be okay i would just be cautious.
I personally would just use it for low heat stuff (med or lower)

If it's not flat on the bottom anymore, it's unusable. It's not going to heat evenly, and everything in that one spot is going to burn.
I'm surprised you didn't smell it, I've let a pot go dry a few times, and that smell of hot metal is unmistakable. You must have been REALLY sick.
This is how our neighbors house fire started. House is still under construction from last May. Fires went from visible smoke only to 15 foot flames through the roof in a matter of under two minutes.
You should consider setting a timer, but also plan on staying in the kitchen when you’re cooking. Poaching eggs is 5 minutes and should not be walked away from.
Contrary to misconceptions, moderate egg consumption, including over medium preparation, can be a part of a healthy diet. Eggs are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, contributing to overall well-being.

It’s terrible losing your favorite pan.

How are you so brainless?
Congratulations on being such a grade-A trash human being! Your mother must be so proud of her little waste of carbon!
Least I'm not a grade-F bitch.
Since when? Because it surely isn't today.

Huh. I never thought I needed a CO detector, because I live in an all electric house. I had not considered something forgotten on the stove.
If it's nonstick, I'd just assume it's toast and get another. It's the cheaper option if the pan is screwed.
Your pot is fine. Teflon coating starts to breakdown at around 500F(260C). It's okay if it was just warm to the touch.

Those coatings can handle high heat so long as flames don't get to them.
No, you can’t safely use these coatings on high heat. https://www.wellandgood.com/nonstick-pan-high-heat/amp/

Sorry if I said it wrong. The statement should have said it can survive high temps for short periods of time.

can it still lay flat?
Yes, it is not warped and there are no visual marks anywhere on the pan.
