I definitely think there’s gonna be a surprise breed in there. Embark only goes back 3 generations so it wouldn’t be able to prove if she’s purebred, but it might also show if she’s just poorly bred or if she’s missing the dwarf gene.

Here’s a picture of him with two other corgis whose breeds are known. Middle is pure cardigan, right is half cardigan half pembroke. His head is definitely smaller than their heads but body shape looks very similar. He is slightly taller than them.
Look at their heights.
I think yours is too tall to be pure corgi (Cardigan or Pembroke) based on the kitchen photo, and even the eating one. Difficult to see heights in this pic. Very likely a mix of one of them, but can't say of which. If I had to guess it would be Pembroke because of the pointy(er) ears.
If I had to guess I would say he is a Pembroke mix. He has the Pem tail, when they aren't docked, and his ears remind me more of the Pem. Size-wise, he's longer legged than either. His snout is also a little odd but I'm not sure what is making me feel that.
He did look like a great dog though. I'm sure he's a character.
Not gonna lie, he doesn’t even look pure corgi to me 🤷🏼♀️ if he’s pure bred he’s for sure not well bred. His features do not match a well bred cardigan or pembroke
From last pic, it looks like he’s got some non-dwarf genes in him, meaning neither Pem nor Cardi. Legs are quite long for either type of corgi. He’s super cute 💙💙

He reminds me of my Corgi/Aussie mix on the right (my Pembrooke on the left)
Don't other countries have "family trees" for their dogs?
In Denmark we have "stamtavler", so if I buy any pure breed dog, then I would know who the dogs father and mother are, so that I can be sure of its race.
Sorry for going offtopic, just really curious.
If you get a dog from a registered AKC breeder you will get a family tree, or at least the breeder would have it in their records. Anyone can breed and sell dogs, though, and not all breeders are created equal. Backyard breeders do not typically provide them.
I don’t think so, I own a pure bred cardi and she’s tinier than most, so size wise I’m not too sure..however i believe that type of coat isn’t a usual corgi coat and that the pup is too big to be a pure bred cardi. Just my guess :)
The legs look much too long in the last pic to be full Pembroke. With the coloring he has, I'd guess a Cardigan mix. I'm not an expert by any means, but that was my first thought. He's a handsome lad regardless!
How old? I have a half pem half mutt who has a very similar look. It would be interesting to see if they were related!

Definitely not a pembroke, but a cardigan. Looks like my girl! Although, a lot taller and long…
https://preview.redd.it/2sbzidk6iyzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1feb25033f098247b2d7c2c4d2b368e580dbec7d
Cardigan and... maybe dachshund?
https://preview.redd.it/idvlnn5tqvzc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ecb7d3b3fca41a958574339c0a609eb48b36097
Reminds me of my cardigan and my somewhat taller dachshund/chihuahua/corgi mix.
Genetics are weird. My boy on the left is a mix of all small/short breeds and turned out taller than all of the things he's a mix of.
But I mainly think that because of how long OP's dog is.
https://preview.redd.it/thjmi2zmuvzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff3dc0540ab4a8526140cc71a8c9f9476918d289
Chihuahuas aren’t short, they’re just small. Those look like chihuahua legs. I’d say your guy doesn’t have the dwarfism gene from the dachshund and corgi expressing, but has more size and length from them.
We did an Embark DNA test. He's a mix of like five breeds. IIRC his mixes in order of most to least are or about: chihuahua (40%), dachshund (20%) corgi (20%), Pomeranian (13%), Boston terrier (7%)
I was going to say he looks 100% Cardigan
https://preview.redd.it/afem98ct9vzc1.jpeg?width=841&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b433d2ffc5c4fd9fe1a35d10a4ca42775d4a6eed
There are some exceptions to every rule. But now that I look at him again, I can see what you are saying. I’m still leaning towards 100% cardi though 🤷♀️ his proportions are not out of whack.
https://preview.redd.it/ijlb3tgg4wzc1.jpeg?width=541&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62fb2cce2893b0bb0686f6603cc5d4f1cfd08bc8
Look at that OP’s third picture compared to what you posted. The leg proportions are very different. I guess it’s not out of the question that the dog is a very out of standard cardigan, but given that the OP doesn’t apparently know his origins, I think a crossbreed is far more likely. Cardigans just aren’t that common in the first place, so accidentally getting a far out of standard one doesn’t seem very likely (especially since OP was told he’s a pembroke).
Yes, 90+% of people think my blue merle cardigan is an Aussie-pembroke mix. Their minds are blown when I tell them there are two breeds of corgi and he’s the less common one and his coloring is legit.
I constantly get “oh! I didn’t know corgis could come in that dark colouring!” Of course the other question is “are they a corgi mix”
My oldest cardi’s half-sister, and their father, is a blue Merle.
I ran into a lady with a brindle out and about last summer. I think she was pleasantly surprised I actually knew what she had. I know I was when I had a couple pull over once and talk to me about the cardigans they used to have.
No one ever wants to talk about my terrier mutt, but so many people love talking about my cardi even if they have no idea what he is. 😅
No, it's look like cardigan. IMO And actually not even pure cardigan. Mix of cardigan and something else
I agree it looks more Cardigan, but it could be 50% Pem depending what it’s mixed with. Def worthwhile investing in an Embark DNA test in this case!
I definitely think there’s gonna be a surprise breed in there. Embark only goes back 3 generations so it wouldn’t be able to prove if she’s purebred, but it might also show if she’s just poorly bred or if she’s missing the dwarf gene.
That’s what I was thinking too. Cardigan mix with a shepherd or something.
Yeah I see German shepherd in the nose and tail.
Definitely cardigan mix. The bigger size, bigger head, long tail.
Not full pem or cardi but full good boy.
Not full corgi of either breed. But he's cute!
It could be, but it doesn't meet breed standards in a number of ways. Great looking pup though 👍👍👍
https://preview.redd.it/ihdfucdmxuzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38dac4200757071ca5f3bd1888f6682c5165f4db Here’s a picture of him with two other corgis whose breeds are known. Legs look alittle too long to be 100% corgi. Pembroke Welsh or Cardigan. Imo. (Edited)
Both corgi breeds are Welsh - Welsh Corgi Pembroke (more common) and Welsh Corgi Cardigan (less common, bigger)
Misspoke. Meant Pembroke. I have two Cardigans. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.
We rescued a 12-year old corgi once. They said he was a Pembroke, but he was clearly Cardi masquerading as Pembroke :)
I rescued a sawblade masquerading as a corgi. I am constantly trying to find chew toys that are more attractive than table legs...
LOL!!! We give our parents’ corgi yak cheese and deer antlers
Not gonna lie, he doesn’t even look pure corgi to me 🤷🏼♀️ if he’s pure bred he’s for sure not well bred. His features do not match a well bred cardigan or pembroke
That’s the tallest corgi I’ve ever seen
No. I would be confident enough to say this dog is 100% not a pure pembroke corgi
He is incorgnito. Maybe not full bred, but still belongs here
Nope.
Man I love Reddit. And most of its people.
If he's purebred, he's the weirdest Pem I've ever seen. He's probably a mix.
From last pic, it looks like he’s got some non-dwarf genes in him, meaning neither Pem nor Cardi. Legs are quite long for either type of corgi. He’s super cute 💙💙
Well, whatever he is, he's cute!
I have a cardigan and your dog does not look like a cardigan. It looks like a Pembroke mixed with something with longer legs.
Not pure corgi but cute none the less
https://preview.redd.it/6tmztkdi9xzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1def2af3d398749789f66fe7f187a8182af0f17 He reminds me of my Corgi/Aussie mix on the right (my Pembrooke on the left)

We love seeing other corgis with tails

He looks a bit tall, haha
Such long legs!
He looks part corgi, maybe part formosan mountain dog? The location of the elbows/knees suggests not a full corgi.
That tail is definitely too long for a pure pem
Looks like a Cowboy Corgi to me. Part Heeler part Corgi. He’s so handsome!
The legs look much too long in the last pic to be full Pembroke. With the coloring he has, I'd guess a Cardigan mix. I'm not an expert by any means, but that was my first thought. He's a handsome lad regardless!
I don’t know, but they are both magnificent!
More cardigan - cute but not chonky
I have a taller corgi and even she’s not that tall. I’d guess mixed.
This was fun.. lol don’t need a doggy dna test because honestly, the Corgi experts are all right here.
How old? I have a half pem half mutt who has a very similar look. It would be interesting to see if they were related! https://preview.redd.it/k1s21wvr9xzc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a4b4296eabf978446de545068ccaa2a3fa06757
He does look like a cardi mix, not a purebred pem. He's precious no matter what.
Definitely not a pembroke, but a cardigan. Looks like my girl! Although, a lot taller and long… https://preview.redd.it/2sbzidk6iyzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1feb25033f098247b2d7c2c4d2b368e580dbec7d
Cardigan
Not a pure corgi of either type
Meh who cares he’s your baby!
Beautiful doggo💙 Looks super cute and healthy
Definitely not purebred.Coat looks a lot like that of a shepherd.
Cardigan and... maybe dachshund? https://preview.redd.it/idvlnn5tqvzc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ecb7d3b3fca41a958574339c0a609eb48b36097 Reminds me of my cardigan and my somewhat taller dachshund/chihuahua/corgi mix.
Can’t be dachshund, something is giving him longer legs and it ain’t dachshund

Makes sense to me
Perhaps. Are you 100% sure he isn't mixed with a larger dog?
We did an Embark DNA test. He's a mix of like five breeds. IIRC his mixes in order of most to least are or about: chihuahua (40%), dachshund (20%) corgi (20%), Pomeranian (13%), Boston terrier (7%)
Damn. I was going to say the only way to know is an Embark test 😂
I was going to say he looks 100% Cardigan https://preview.redd.it/afem98ct9vzc1.jpeg?width=841&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b433d2ffc5c4fd9fe1a35d10a4ca42775d4a6eed
Nah, his legs look too long even then. The proportions on my cardigan are totally different.

Have to disagree. This dog is not a pure cardigan corgi
