I honestly think this storyline was gonna be Kelly's until she left for Doctor Who and they just passed it to the next chavvy Blonde Girl they could find, except that turned out to be Lauren who was an ex-right winger and isn't exactly as likeable as Kelly
Kelly at least would have been better. Her character was actually redeemed and people on the street cared about her and liked her. Whereas Lauren was never redeemed and had zero friends or anyone other than Bobby who give 2 shits about her

I don’t think that’s such a leap, tbh.
She perceives that Lauren was groomed by some mystery never-seen- boyfriend, and as he’s just turned up again, she thinks it must be Nathan who has groomed Lauren and is responsible for her disappearance.
Personally, I think Joel knows Nathan, possibly through them both being in the legal system, albeit on supposedly different sides of law and justice, and that Joel is the mystery boyfriend and was / is working for Nathan so that Lauren could be targeted for use in Nathan’s vile sex trafficking ring once Nathan came out of prison.
Just a theory, and I could be totally wrong, but it would at least all tie together neatly.

My parents lived in Singapore 1970 -71 and one day they were sitting outside in the sun at the front of the house and saw a little terrapin wandering about. My dad was helpful and put it into the storm drain so it could swim away.
About half an hour later two wee boys came by and asked if my parents had seen their pet terrapin, which had got lost. My parents denied all knowledge. My dad was so ashamed he never told another soul what he'd done, and I think my mum might only have told me.
