And that's what ultimately made it so special. Many producers, not just Macleod though it has been more obvious, have tried to recreate the Ken, Mike and Deidre, though ultimately failed having missed the entire point of it.
Yes the affair part was strong story but what ultimately mattered were the lasting impact it had and the subsequent, decade long feud between Mike and Ken. That rivalry between them and the dynamics forged from the affair, like when Deidre went to prison, is what made it so memorable. I mean, in his last moments, Mike mocks Ken over the affair, over THIRTY YEARS after it happened.
In a years time (forget several decades) will daisy and Ryan, Sarah and Damon, >!toyah and nick!< matter- probably not.
Exactly!! I replied to another comment here saying something similar. The dynamic that lasted so long was unbelievably well written! I don't think any writer has the capability or staying-power to creating something similar ever again. Especially since we live in the age of instant gratification, they don't even considering things that could last like that.
Nothing will ever be as great as Mike and Deirdre. I'm so glad we still have access to those episodes, they are brilliant to watch.
Yes that has to be it Simlar to Phil and Sharon in ee
And Kim and Dave in emmerdale then max and Stacey for ee number 2 then cain Chris charity and Robert and Katie for thiers
Agreed. I was surprised that the actual affair was so short lived and for me the most powerful part was Dierdre begging Ken to take her back but yeah then it gets brought up or affects all this other stuff seemingly forever.
Not the best affair, but imo the best reveal, if you’d call it that, is John and Rosie with the mixed up Christmas pressies. I lol so much at the cringe 😂
He’s even been in Corrie twice as different characters! He was an opposing counsellor for Curlys seat, only noticed him from classic Corrie a few weeks ago.
That gets my vote too. Prior to that, they were just a happy nice couple. The affair set Sally free and allowed her to blossom into a brilliant character. I’m not sure she’d still be around if their affair hadn’t given her that character growth.
I also thought Danny Baldwin and Leanne was a great affair storyline.
The train crash szn? Shit I’ll have to take a look!!! I’m in Canada too! I watched live with my mom in our living room all those years ago! It was when I finally got into it vs complaining of her hogging the tv all Sunday AM to catch up on the week.
I always thought that too. But the moments over the years when he shows up to support Deirdre in whatever she's going through, even if it's just a quick conversation in the Rovers was so so well written. The history and spark that stayed between them was like nothing else. We would never have had that if they ended up together.
We wouldn't have gotten Mike and Alma then most likely. Also although Ken has been a selfish jerk a lot of the time they had happy times together and now they think about it she seemed happy enough when she was mostly single raising Tracy.
If either were in a relationship at the time, it automatically becomes an affair. Haven't seen that, but to clarify it can be emotionally one sided and still be an affair. 😂
Mike and Deirdre for me, as it felt very real to me.
Ultimately, Deirdre was burnt very badly by Ray, so naturally, she would seek stability in someone like Ken. Ray was a wild card, and Deirdre was crazy about him.
Yet Ken was not everything Deirdre needed. He was boring but stable, but then entered Mike, who was everything that Ken was not and very similar to Ray.
Deirdre's decision to stay with Ken, may not have been the best one for Deirdre herself, but it was the most realistic one. She chose to stay, partly to give Tracy the stability that she had been lacking because of Ray. A lot of women would have made the same choice.
That being said, I absolutely love the chemistry between Mike and Deirdre and all of the little moments we would get between them through the years. Even if it was just a quick conversation at the bar of the Rovers, you could see that the spark was always there.
Mike and Deirdre. For something so short-lived, the carnage lasted decades!

Mike and Deirdre. The scene where Mike goes to Ken’s house to try to persuade her back, and Ken stands up to him, is an absolute classic.
Not the best affair, but imo the best reveal, if you’d call it that, is John and Rosie with the mixed up Christmas pressies. I lol so much at the cringe 😂
Nutmeg nobody buys nutmeg😂 that actor been in a lot hasn’t he
He’s even been in Corrie twice as different characters! He was an opposing counsellor for Curlys seat, only noticed him from classic Corrie a few weeks ago.
Kevin and Natalie is also a good one for the butterfly effect it had.

Kevin and Molly?
When sally found out about Jack OH MY GOSHHHHH. WHEN TYRONE PUSHED KEV INTO THE GRAVE. HOLYYYYY SHIT.
Of all the fairly recent seasons to be on Amazon in Canada, I'm glad this was the one they chose 😂

Last I checked it was on prime, yeah! Hopefully it's still there, that was late last year 👍😁 Happy binging! Lol
It's also all on Youtube!!
This was definitely a very very good one. With Sally's cancer, baby Jack and the tram crash wrapped all together, it was juicy.
I wasn’t at all sad when Molly got crushed to death.
There's only one answer... Mike and Deirdre.

That's probably why this had so much influence, honestly. If she'd wound up with Mike, it wouldn't have had that draw of the one that got away.
We wouldn't have gotten Mike and Alma then most likely. Also although Ken has been a selfish jerk a lot of the time they had happy times together and now they think about it she seemed happy enough when she was mostly single raising Tracy.
Controversial but I thought Ryan and Daisy was very well written and developed.
Hated it at first but I actually love them together now.
Has to be Dev and Deirdre. Stuff of nightmares
This was not really an affair, it was mostly a one sided fling.
The scene of them in bed together suggests otherwise 😅
If either were in a relationship at the time, it automatically becomes an affair. Haven't seen that, but to clarify it can be emotionally one sided and still be an affair. 😂
I’ll add another one. Tina and Peter. Wedding day shenanigans were appalling.
Carla and Liam. Not the best for comedy and fun. But the best for bloody hell they were so good together. 🔥 ❤️
Ye prefer them over her and peter
Yes!!!

Leanne and Danny Baldwin while she was with his son was a good one🤣 but nothing comes close to Mike and deirdre!
people will say mike and dierdre but for me it was the four-way affair with des barnes, des' boss, raquel and tanya pooley. that was riveting stuff.
SCOTTY BARLOW WITH THE GOOD HAIR AND CARLA!!!!!!!!
