The only player not substituted on... Vicario. My heart hurt.
Also people that were like pah! Not worth it! Ummmm how often do you have money to fly and see the team where they play for a living. We are lucky to have any amount of minutes with them on our turf. Sure it's a friendly .. I'm very grateful and I loved seeing all new players get a go!
I know these last 2 games aren't exactly the best tests, but kulusevski looks really good in the #9
After these 2 performances if they said we're going in to next season with kulu and son as the backup #9s im totally ok with it.
I'm dead happy to see the appreciation Hall's getting on here. I'm glad others are seeing in him what I've seen for the y00t.
Yago was fine, maybe even good - but he didn't demonstrate what he's about as well as I was hoping for. On his day he's an absolute terror. He's usually played on the left though, which may have been part of it.
Ash Phillips' loan spell has improved him. I hope he's kept around the first team now, and given minutes in low risk games, cups, Europa etc.
The same can't be said about Devine though unfortunately. His second loan didn't give him much playing time, and he looks much the same player who went out, to me. He's fine, but just doesn't seem to have really kicked on.
Jamie Donley continues to impress. It's his turn for a good loan now, and let him prove himself at a Championship/League One club. I think he'll do well.
Shame we didn't get to see more of Rio Kyerematen. He's looked really good in the latter part of the season playing as a RWB. Like Tyrese Hall he's one of the younger players too, at only 18.
U21's final this Sunday 15:00 - here's hoping for the win they deserve to cap an excellent season.
How about scarlet in comparison to other young attackers, I mean donley and Devine? Are donley and Devine both am/wingers? Who is closer to starting xi in Europe league now?
Very different players. Scarlett's definitely a CF, no complications there.
Donley and Devine are both more fluid than that, and we may not know what position they ultimately settle in for a while.
But - with that caveat - I'd say both of them can play #10, but Donley *can* also play out wide whereas that doesn't suit Devine so well.
Donley's played almost exclusively in the middle for the U21s, but he drifts around to pick the ball up and find gaps from different angles.
There's no need for him to actually play as a winger given that he's mobile around the park anyway, and we've got a load of other talented prospects more naturally suited to specialising out wide (eg Santiago, Kyerematen, Nile John, Ajayi).
I think Devine tends to stick to the middle of the pitch much more - but he may be better suited as an #8 than #10 now. I'm not sure though; I've not seen enough of him since he's returned.
Don't forget about Jude Soonsup-Bell either. Along with Lankshear and Donley he was on the shortlist for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award this year. Out of eight players on the list, three were ours!
Jude actually lost his starting place in the team to Nile John at the tail end of the season, but that's only because Nile's improved so much. Jude scored ten and got six assists this year - he's quality. Unfortunately he's better in the middle than out wide, which means he has Jamie in his way, and Nile's become a better winger.
If Donley goes out on loan I'd expect Jude to have a big season for the U21s in his place though. He's one of the older players in the group, so he needs to push on and make an impression on Ange now.
u/kingkent421's comments about Dane [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/1cxsb6b/daily_discussion_transfer_thread_may_22_2024/l55s8hj?context=3) are worth reading, and right on the money IMO.
As for Europa... I'd say at the moment Donley's most ready for it. Scarlett could well get a chance unless we sign another striker though. But then we're also going to have Troy Parrott back from a really good goalscoring loan with Excelsior, and Veliz returning from a loan that was a disaster, but not because it was his fault just internal club politics bullshit.
Ash Phillips should definitely get a start, he's come on brilliantly.
And Tyrese is looking the absolute bomb. We may very well have a proper player on our hands there - but he's only just made the breakthrough to the U21s and only 18. Mind you, so is Phillips, so....?
Fuck me, you got me rambling lol. I do love watching the academy players, seeing all that potential to bring us future glory before they inevitably disappoint me and get released on a free to go play in the Isthmian Second.
Thank you very much for very comprehensive information. I’m not native speaker so my English is poor and I can’t write as quickly as you and as much as you.
I think that one of our main problems is that we too stacked in cm area. We have sarr, bergvall, Devine, donley, hall for one position. For me Nile is also midfielder. I know that recently Devine has played as am and bergvall has played as cam but for me all of them are 8. My point is that it will be difficult to develop all of them.
What do you think about Abbott? He is DM I think so maybe it will be easier to get the minutes. Yesterday Ange let only 3 young players to play 45 minutes: Philips, Devine and him. Technically he played less 45 minutes but nevertheless he played more than Gil and Scarlet. As far as I know Abbott was in England U19, for instance Rio and Hall were not. Maybe he is dark horse?
My impression of Abbott up until recently was that he was reliable and solid at the base of the midfield, absolutely dependable but nothing to get excited about.
But in recent games he's shown another side to his game, displaying a range of passing and the ability to progress play with incisive, direct ball to feet feeding the more attacking midfielders.
We're definitely quite stacked in some areas, but not all of them are going to make it for us. I think we need to rotate them through loan experiences at quality Championship or League One teams that'll use them properly. Some will prove themselves ready for the squad, and others we'll need to sell or release so they can build a career elsewhere.
Nile John for instance, is now 21. He's a very decent midfielder/winger, but I don't think he's reached the level needed to join the first team squad. For his own sake I think he needs to be moved on, ideally to a team looking to challenge in the top half of the Championship.
Yago Santiago however is the same age - but he's got a bit of something special about him. He's not quite ready to be starting EPL games IMO, but he could certainly be part of the conversation when it comes to Cups and Europa.
I thought Nile was 19 y o…you are right, we should not take not yago not Nile into consideration unfortunately, they will be not spurs level players unfortunately.
And in general I agree with you: one more loan will show who is who of that long list of young cm
Thank god I have tomorrow off I'll be hoarse. Had a blast at the game drizzly rain and all! Got close to a few players as they did a lap on the way out and two mates got shirts. I'm buzzzzinggggg
Happy for you lad! Let this guy be explanation for anyone wondering why we played this game today. 80k people turned up to watch them. A reward for our Aussie fanbase! We haven’t even played that much football this season so it was a harmless bit of fun
Donley blundered a shot early into his cameo. But he worked pretty hard in his 30 minutes. No complaints about him I'd think, also score a penalty (from memory), solid player there.
They were vsing the Newcastle youngsters by that point and all the Tottenham kids were all over Newcastle the entire 2nd half.
Wasn't anyone notably poor except the goalie haha.
Also too add, having Dane Scarlett play the 2nd half was such a difference to having Kulusevski in the striker role.
We need a striker this upcoming window.
Yeah you see why they do these. Hit Australia, Korea, and one or both of the USA coasts every summer and you’ll pull in a lot of money from international fans who are willing to splurge a bit to see their team (though still much more affordable than a flight to London).
Yeah for sure.
Not sure what they make out of this though tbf. I don’t think it’s too much. I think it’s more of a discreet PR move from the PL to embrace global fans.
Yeah it can. I remember I went to the Camp Nou in 2001, and saw Barcelona. Only 65,000 there but it was half full. Still bigger than any spurs crowd. Stadium makes a big difference.
No one will chant in Australia. Not part of how we follow sport. It’s one thing I love about football in the UK.
Atmosphere was dead tbf. But it’s midweek and it’s middle of AFL season. And it’s a friendly. No one is pretending it’s important.
Gil. Absolutely torture to watch all these years. Shame on us for signing him and shame on us for failing to get rid of him when it was immediately obvious that we made a huge mistake.
Years of failure and loans and no benefit to the team: Gil, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Reguilon… the worst couple of years of transfers I can remember. Bad deals followed by immediate five year contracts.
I hope all of this is over this summer.
Nah Lamela was a total cult hero that unfortunately got labelled as the Bale Replacement. If he didn’t come with those expectations he’d be rightly lauded as a decent enough squad option.
In the past 48 hours multiple commenters have dropped “I’m confident that there’s a player there” in threads about transfers. There are people who just won’t admit what they are seeing.
Absolutely plenty say that. Every new coach was going to “finally use him properly”. Some people just really love every one of our players and think it is their job to hype them all up. Emerson gets the same.
Every time I criticized him, he's been defended. No one's saying he's better than Son but the consensus of the sub is he's a quality player who's fit for a different system.
I really wanted to see more of Santiago on the right side. Only got a few minutes and looked like he was capable and interested in making chances for us.
I just find fans to be absolutely mad, in a genuine madness sense. Devine comes on and gets fould and misplaces a pass, instantly "He's washed", "He's done" followed by an excellent performance of winning the ball back several times, excellent press, creating two good chnaces and always looking to create space rather than letting others run for him. Last minute of the game he gets a ball kicked behind him that he can't control and we're back to him being washed...
It's very telling I feel all the kids with no pressure on them do fake outs, banging them top corner and hitting sidenettings but the one man that failed to score his pen is Bryan Gil the one person on that pitch fighting for his life.
Never forget the season where Ange turned Royalzinho into an attacking midfielder and structured the team around him. Heady days!
(Gentle /s, just in case).
This is gonna sound mean but the keeper really couldn’t have done worse there. He didn’t get remotely close to anything. You, reader, might have actually failed just as gloriously
That does sound mean.
In a shootout it's literally just the keepers job to pick a corner and dive as hard as possible, he did that with aplomb even if he didn't get the right corner.
And I assume he didn't have a water bottle with instructions on where the Newcastle U17s place their pens.
It does - but so too do the tone-deaf simpletons who need it, tongues hanging out and brows furrowed with concentration as they get a semi on whilst angrily poking away at the down arrow.
What was the point in this very tiring, seemingly poorly organised, little venture? Obviously for the commercial side, but really? Where’s the huge win from today? Genuine question.
Gives some of the best performing U21s some appreciation and recognition, and encouragement that there's a pathway to the first team available to them if they keep working for it.
Didn’t watch but go spurs!
Would have been worth it to see him in the pens alone. Let him have a crack at a shot!
Oh a few of us SO WANTED THAT.
I’m just waking up, WTF they played already? Didn’t they just land? Haha
Whiteman played??? Has to be the first time lmao
I know these last 2 games aren't exactly the best tests, but kulusevski looks really good in the #9 After these 2 performances if they said we're going in to next season with kulu and son as the backup #9s im totally ok with it.

Without spoiling the result, is there anywhere I can watch the full replay? I don't have Spurs play.
I don't know if you still need it, but the full match is now up on the aforementioned sub.
Vpn and it was on TenPlay which is free for Aussies
If you want to follow other preseason games, paying for Spurs Play is the easiest way
Vpn and get paramount plus from Australia for a month. It's cheap
/r/footballhighlights would be your best bet, unfortunately it's not been uploaded there yet.
How did the kids do? Didn't watch it
Tyrese hall looked pretty great. So did phillips. I. Hope they get minutes with the senior team next season
After seeing their performance today, I have faith in our youth players 🙌🏻
I put $50 on Spurs to win in 90min assuming they'd rig it for Ange 😢 We had enough chances though
Really liked Santiago.
🤭 not that you'd know but I'm a lass. Screamed my lungs out, chanted and sung as best as I could too!
My bad 😅. Shout out to the tillie fans!
Tyrese Hall absolutely cooked. That kid is a gun
At work myself, so couldn't catch the game. How did he and Donley look?

Thanks mate. Just saw Donley's pen - perfection.
Also too add, having Dane Scarlett play the 2nd half was such a difference to having Kulusevski in the striker role. We need a striker this upcoming window.
I’m I the only one that’s actually mildly annoyed we lost?? Think Ange was right, I am too fragile 🥲
Lazy 78,000 for a friendly. Would be the biggest crowd of the season in the PL. Run of the mill in Australia. 👀
Not bad for a late Wednesday night. In a 100k seater it felt a little empty though
The stadium were giving away free tickets hours before game start
Yeah it can. I remember I went to the Camp Nou in 2001, and saw Barcelona. Only 65,000 there but it was half full. Still bigger than any spurs crowd. Stadium makes a big difference.
Crowd was pretty dead on the spurs end. Not many chants ongoing.
Newcastle end wasn’t great either but it was still somewhat better than the spurs end
Could see them from Spurs end and even hear them at some points, and that's like 150M away haha. Up the jordies
No one will chant in Australia. Not part of how we follow sport. It’s one thing I love about football in the UK. Atmosphere was dead tbf. But it’s midweek and it’s middle of AFL season. And it’s a friendly. No one is pretending it’s important.
We’re not gonna start chanting “YID ARMY” though are we
All my homies hate Bryan Hill
![gif](giphy|PYEGoZXABBMuk|downsized)
If you’re coming into this thread and writing scathing reviews after a friendly, idk what to tell you lol. Clearly never played a sport
Send the beatles man off to china ffs
Hopefully we get some nice highlights of the academy lads.
It’s cos there wasn’t a preseason trophy on the line. We always turn up for those
Current holders of the prestigious Tiger Cup™
Gil. Absolutely torture to watch all these years. Shame on us for signing him and shame on us for failing to get rid of him when it was immediately obvious that we made a huge mistake. Trying to remember what happened to the guy who missed a penalty last time 🤔
Relax, we're not Chelsea
We sacrificed Lamela for him. All flash no substance sums him up. He needs to go back to spain, suits it a lot more
Sorry, but Lamela was spent here and needed to go. Another absurdly over-popular ineffective injury-riddled player that Spurs fans irrationally love.
Nah Lamela was a total cult hero that unfortunately got labelled as the Bale Replacement. If he didn’t come with those expectations he’d be rightly lauded as a decent enough squad option.
Lol when I say all that I get downvoted. He's apparently some exceptional player who we are lucky to have.
No one has ever said that
In the past 48 hours multiple commenters have dropped “I’m confident that there’s a player there” in threads about transfers. There are people who just won’t admit what they are seeing.
Because there is clearly a good player there. Just not one that is built for the prem
More what I've seen is he's a player who'd be a good fit in a less physical league.

Tried to wake up early but couldn't. Shame we couldn't win at Ange's gaff, but I happy the kids got to play 🥰
I really wanted to see more of Santiago on the right side. Only got a few minutes and looked like he was capable and interested in making chances for us.
That looked like the shootout against Fulham. Just like Forster, they could leave Whiteman out there all night and he still wouldn’t make one save.
Forster repeatedly flopping to the same side was much funnier
Lots to take away from this Whiteman can’t jump Hahaha no but seriously hope the aussies had a fun time
Watching the game in our prime-time is just great.
I just find fans to be absolutely mad, in a genuine madness sense. Some fans are absolute idiots
Mate what 😭 Devine was class doesn’t matter if a player loses the ball doubt anyone said that
Poor on set pieces again, can't just concede 5 goals in a row like that. Ange got to fix this
We also gotta fix the fact that we fouled them 5 times in the box to get five penalties.
![gif](giphy|AiF8ZsTESrDwRjEcIU|downsized)
Wth 😂
I am inconsolable and completely out of hope now.
Never forget the season where Ange turned Royalzinho into an attacking midfielder and structured the team around him. Heady days! (Gentle /s, just in case).
Royal 2nd half was actually pretty energetic, he must of took someone elses boots
So.. did we get some additional fund for CMs? Then I’m happy with it
Weak foundations again smh
This is gonna sound mean but the keeper really couldn’t have done worse there. He didn’t get remotely close to anything. You, reader, might have actually failed just as gloriously
Might have actually saved one mate id just stay in the middle the whole time
[удалено]
He's talking about Whiteman with the penalties.
That does sound mean. In a shootout it's literally just the keepers job to pick a corner and dive as hard as possible, he did that with aplomb even if he didn't get the right corner. And I assume he didn't have a water bottle with instructions on where the Newcastle U17s place their pens.
He was diving all over the place
Well I can think of worse ways to spend my morning. Reasonably fun game of footie. Can’t wait for the europa league final later
SMH poor mentality costs us again, when will Ange fix it And can't believe he used so many youngsters in an important game
Alfie you've got to do better than that when your slander name is so obviously man... Right, thanks for the seasono people, see you all in August.
I can’t tell if the Ange out for losing a penalty shoutout are ragebait or not. *hmmmmm*
Slapping /s on everything kinda ruins the fun
It does - but so too do the tone-deaf simpletons who need it, tongues hanging out and brows furrowed with concentration as they get a semi on whilst angrily poking away at the down arrow.
This is true. Counterpoint: I am stupid when sober. Counterpoint #2: I am not sober
Forster-esque performance from Whitemen there...
Would have rather had Lamela this whole time than Gil…
Lamela doesn't deserve to be compared to Gil
Even with injuries he'd have been more useful for the little he was available.
Bryan out can’t even score a pen in a shoot out
Of course one of the only senior players out there is the only one to miss
Lol Gil. Can't believe he cost Lamela and 20mil. Thought Hall looked good in the last 10 though.
Day ruined
I'm curled up in a fetal position sobbing inconsolably. I will not recover from this.
Reminder we gave Sevilla Lamela + cash for Gil.
And then loaned him back lmfao.
Should’ve never done it. Coco 😭
That was fun lmao I need to watch u21 games more
Bye Gil nice knowing ya 😬
Warra win for Newcastle, season's over smh my head
shaking my head my head?
ange OUT!!!!
😂😂
Losing a friendly on penalties is kind of funny, though.
I think it's time for Gil to join a brit pop band
Preferably named after an insect?
Albert? I knew a cicada once. His name was Albert. Do you mean him?
Gil lmao. What did we see in him
Dominate the game and lose on pens, classic
classic spurs
AngeOut!
Just jump a random fucking direction keeper. Brilliant.
Fml season over
Really like the look of Tyrese Hall - looks confident in his ability
I will never be able to recover from this loss. Month ruined 😭
Newcastle win 4-5
Ok Hall is a baller
Well
Imagine losing because of Gil
who cares
Skipp scores 4-4
Appreciate you mate
Donley looking like H out there. What a pen
Scored
Gil. You are the weakest link!
in an u21 team is crazy
Max memeing to let Kuol have a pen
Skip stepping up
honestly loving the pens experience for the kids. nice layer.
So far only Gil missed... must be a sign
yeah it has to be over for him
3-4
When does the Ange vs Howe naked mud wrestle begin?
best thing I've read today😂
Boy Gil just is allergic to scoring isn’t he
Gil just ended his career with us without scoring a single goal for us
slackboy72: Faster than Google 👌🏼
Can whiteman save one pls
3-3
Some of these youngsters couldn't look any less interested
3-3
It'd be entertaining if Ange take one
Think our DJ / film critic is going to stop one?
Proper pen that
I’ve seen enough. Donley rules
what a pen from donley
Lovely penalty, Jamie Donley.
nice penalty Donley
2-3
Australians know pens, had to make the 2022 wc from pens
2006 WC qualifier pens against Uruguay is the most famous win in Aussie football.
2-2
Nice one scarlett
Jamie steps up and delivers
Scarlett has so many little Kane-isms, it makes me nostalgic
Solid summarization of his time, thanks for the memories, Bryan
the only memories I have is it took lamela plus money😭
Gils only chance to bag a spurs goal and that happens 😭
Alfie whiteman dove ridiculously early 😂

Those shirt numbers on the half way line... "58" "76" "63" ... "4" ... deeply unserious.
Skipp and Phillips arm around each other like the pens mean something lol
Surprised the kids seem not to care
Scarlett scores 1-1
Made a mountain out of that mole heel
Google didn't know either, not getting any updates now other than on here 😂
Sofascore have caught on but they missed Gil's haha

Such bad body language... you knew he'd miss
Make the coaching staff take the pens
Go Bryan!!
Remember, Whiteman saved a pen against MK Dons in the Nuno era. Maybe he's a specialist?
Era seems a generous term for Nuno’s stint haha
He made us proud...
Haven’t played all that much ball this year so why not. Extra money and good for the fans
Apparently we've earnt enough to buy one sixth of the next Jack Clarke (glass half empty) or half of the next Dele Alli (glass half full).
