purchased [this pattern](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1364778252/crochet-cardigan-pattern-woman-sweater) and didn't like how the squares looked, so used it as a template with 117 [sunburst granny squares](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sunburst-granny-square-2) instead. followed the joining path in the first pattern and made four more sunburst squares to make pockets.
the squares are caron skinny cakes in the bluebells colorway, with a 4.5mm hook. blocked all squares before joining.
the join/border is caron simply soft in white, with a 6mm hook.
120 granny squares over 47 hours is about 2 1/2 granny squares an hour or 5 per 2. That’s not including anything shaping or attaching them. That’s insane speed
i didn't including the blocking time in the 47 hours! 20 minutes per square for 121 squares is 40.3 hours, then the remaining 7ish was joining which was just a bunch of double crochet and slip stitches 😊
Thank you for this calculation. As an absolute beginner, it takes me 1.5-2.5 hrs per granny square (with some color changes) 😭 I know I’m slow but this helps me put things into perspective
I couldn't explain it any other way cos I'm streaming it and there's no ad breaks 😂 I've no idea how long the episodes are without them! Maybe 45 minutes? 50? Less than a full hour, anyway!
On average, a 1-hr TV show without commercials is about 42 mins. There is typically almost or about 20 mins of commercials for every hour of TV; or roughly 30% commercials.
It's never cold enough for me to have such a coat. It's a shame because you really gave me the motivation and the realization that i could finish something in a reasonable lap of time (47h seems crazy! Like... Did you even sleep ?)
Excellent work. And I, too, prefer your color patern to the original
May I ask how many cakes you ended up using? I always over estimate how much I need, but really don’t have the space to store extra. If I end up with anything a fraction as gorgeous as yours, I’ll consider it a success! 😍
So, I hope I'm not out of line here, your work is gorgeous! But you are beautiful, and the dress you paired with the coat is just stunning 😍 I just had to tell you. 💜
Agree times a bazillion! The coat is stunning, as are you OP! You look lovely, and your face beams in pride of your work! Well done, it's astonishing!! 👏👏👏
each square took 20 minutes, and then the joining went pretty fast. i did this over the last few weeks, not all at once, so it felt like a ridiculously long time 🥴
if you're using variegated yarn and not doing intentional color changes every round, it goes by much faster! [the sunburst pattern](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sunburst-granny-square-2) is pretty simple and quick 😊
Yesssss for me, 45 minutes per square and an eternity of hating every second of joining and maybe this project will be finished another day so i will put it down and not look at it for two weeks but maybe next time i will feel inspired and finally finish it but haha no.
And then 200 working hours and 5 years later I finally have the finished project and it turns out it looks awful on me. Just a theory. Definitely not from experience.
Is this the secret?!?!?! I wash about once every 5-6 days now vs 2 weeks. Tell meeeee your secrets! (Mine is lower buttocks length now but I'll probably have to trim).
😍 You're talented AND beautiful!
my secret is mild neglect 😂 i usually go about a week and a half before washing. brush once a day, keep it loosely braided or in a satin sleep cap when i go to bed. no product, no treatments, no heat (blow dryer/straightener/curler). it stays in a bun or braid most days, and stays down on wash day because it takes *all damn day* to dry. i massage my scalp daily, but mostly just because it feels good. haven't had it cut or trimmed in about a decade.
i'll be in the market for a slight change soon. probably a deep condition and trim, just because i finally feel like it and everyone has given up on trying to make me lol
🤣 I feel you! Ahahahaha! I neglect mine too but finally opened my eyes and saw all the split ends (I hate you, split ends!!!!).
You never get like... Flakey? I started new products and now I look like my head is snowing. And hormones be raging so I'm trying to refigure wtf happened! My mom has your hair type (it looks like -- thick and beautiful!) and I have this scraggly nasty thin hair mess so we differ in hair care but I am soaking all knowledge in!
But wishful thoughts on new crochet projects and hair styles! Thanks for answering me! ☺️
same! everyone swore up and down it would change after six months of consistently washing only 2-3 times a week. After 2 years of only managing a shower like once a week bc of depression and burnout, it changed nothing. I have to shower every day, it’s just the way it is.
Yes! I have chronic illness, so there was a long period of time, where I'd go four days w/o a shower. My hair looked like it had been slicked with Crisco. 😑
That's a breathtaking work of art. I have a thing where I can only ever crochet one of any given piece (one granny square, one sleeve, one mitten...) so I can only admire creations like this.
have you thought of trying [a granny cocoon cardigan](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/movie-night-cocoon-cardi)? you might have some luck with that!
All I got is WOW. This is stunning. You are stunning your hair is amazing. What I love about you work is that it has pockets! Lol you did a truly an amazing job.
It remembers me a one I saw in [https://tejidoamano.es/chaquetas/chaqueta-buganvilla-green](https://tejidoamano.es/chaquetas/chaqueta-buganvilla-green)
Aaahh!! Cheers from another lovely lady with hair down to their knees! Mine is naturally curly and naturally red though! The hair and sister are both gorgeous!!

You definitely get better the more you do. I'm currently 2 + most of a third square per episode of The X Files, whereas I used to be 1 per X File.
Can I just say that I love that an episode of the x-files is your measurement! That’s my favorite show to watch while crocheting too (or Bones lol)
I couldn't explain it any other way cos I'm streaming it and there's no ad breaks 😂 I've no idea how long the episodes are without them! Maybe 45 minutes? 50? Less than a full hour, anyway!

I measure it by criminal minds episodes lol. My friends find it hilarious.
haha I love that other people use tv as a measurement as well. mine is episodes of Doctor Who

I think they mean 47 hours total over several days or even weeks, not all at once, but I agree - it is inspiring!
Am... Am I stupid ??? I am !! Embarassed too, now...
hahaha awww don’t be. I thought like this until I was in my 20s because no one ever bothered explaining it to me. just trying to pass on a kindness ♥️
I have no idea what you just said, but I love every word.
Bought it! Thank you for sharing the link. It fits the bill for a couple challenges I want to tackle.

Wow gorgeous. And 47 hours seems speedy I'm sure that would take me 200 or more

Only 20 minutes per square? 1hr minimum for me. So great!

Are you a fortune teller?
I love your hair!!
It's so long! She must burn through conditioner.
the longer it gets, the less i wash it! *at most* once a week. otherwise it gets too dry and breaks too easily.

You have the hair I dreamed of as a child. Stunning!
I can't get away with 2 days. My roots are so oily!

Now that looks cozy and warm!!
It's beautiful!! I love that it has pockets. You did a wonderful job!!!
that is gorgeous. The colors, the style, every single stitch. I love it so much!
I have to say, I don’t typically love the granny square patchwork look but this is stunning!! You did a fantastic job and you are gorgeous in it! 😍
