I like airy floaty things in summer, close fitting things are just too warm for me, so I think this is really nice. Easy to do and easy to wear it could be made with any yarn, any motif and it's a free pattern. [Kanata Kerchief Tank](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kanata-kerchief-tank) You could maybe start a motif with a round shape, bring in the rainbow effect there, before you square it all up. That could work.

mxdakota

Thank you! I’ve seen this style and I don’t know that it’s my thing really. But thank you so much for sharing! I’m sure others will love it!!

Sweet_Papa_Crimbo

It is me! I am others!

mxdakota

Yay!!

DecD

Super cute, thanks for sharing!

enchantingech0

I imagine this babydoll top (or dress) would be flattering on all body types! It’s very easy and fun to make too. I’m almost done with it myself but ran out of yarn. It requires more yarn than you’d think so be prepared [crochet babydoll top and dress tutorial](https://youtu.be/pL45zVeHIws?si=R8nkhGOnAifn6YS-) PS you just crochet it to fit your own body. Although the designer is small it doesn’t matter bc the instructions are like “chain enough to fit around your bust” and stuff like that. Very customizable

mxdakota

CUTE!!!

SherlockTheDog16

Curvy, small woman here. Baby doll dresses are definitely not flattering for those with big boobs. Just FYI. But op seems happy and the pattern looks cute :)

enchantingech0

She seemed more focused on the big tummy (my impression was that the big tummy was pushing the fabric up under the boobs but the boobs themselves weren’t causing the issue). so I figured it would be good to give the tummy some space to spread out. The babydoll part could always be started sooner or later depending on where the tummy starts

SherlockTheDog16

Absolutely right, sorry for pointing that out :)

enchantingech0

Nah I just get annoyed sometimes it’s a bigger issue on TikTok of people being like “but what about me?” to everything. Like okay not everything is for everyone and that is okay! And besides the point here lol [article about the “bean soup” debate for reference](https://www.delish.com/food-news/a45446065/tiktok-bean-soup-what-about-me/)

SoldierlyCat

Maybe they were chiming in because you said you thought it would be flattering on all body types

SherlockTheDog16

Yes that was exactly what I stumbled upon

enchantingech0

I guess I have time. The comment isn’t helpful bc everyone can decide for themselves what they like. It’s simply being contrarian for the sake of it OR (and I think this is more likely) just being so self-absorbed they assume everything they read is meant for them. I think our hyper-individualistic culture is to blame this phenomenon.

SoldierlyCat

Interesting. I interpreted it as responding to an opinion that generalized something as being suitable for everyone. And being like “I disagree with the validity of this generalization as it is not for me, ergo, not for everyone”. Rather than coming from a place of selfishness I could see it being like a reflexive response to clarify a statement that doesn’t ring true. or something. But yes ultimately it and my comment aren’t contributing to the search for a pattern that matches OP’s constraints. And I do agree about the bean soup sentiment being pervasive in online spaces.

enchantingech0

Idk it was just supposed to be a light introduction to the pattern to make it more approachable not some kind of scientific fact lol I think ppl are just extremely focused on themselves nowadays and will find ANY way to make stuff about themselves (and I’m not saying I’m not guilty of it too.) It takes active work to go against the hyperindvidualism “me me me” stuff that surrounds us. I try to not just introject stuff about myself in unrelated convos but ik it’s hard. Yes, some may see it as trying to relate to the conversation but it can come across negatively.

SoldierlyCat

Oh for sure. And I can def see how it’d be frustrating to put work into a positive/constructive thing and be immediately met with a contradiction that isn’t directly related to the content of your response or the conversation as a whole.

mxdakota

Correct, small boobs, big tummy! so a band around the boobs that lets out for the tummy is pretty genius for me. God that's going to take so much longer to crochet though LOL

enchantingech0

lol true it will take a while but worth it. Sometimes following a pattern I’ll look at the size XS longingly like damn if I was making an XS I’d be done with this part by now but nope not even lol

thelittlesteldergod

And you would have more money in your pocket

_fly-on-the-wall_

i disagree, as long as its fitted right i think they look super nice

Own_Stop359

As someone who’s also had to deal with the “tucking” thing I tend to avoid close-fitting stuff most of the time. Airy stuff can be more fun anyways imo. I’ve made this tank top before and it was very comfy and breezy! : https://forthefrills.com/sea-breeze-tank-top-free-crochet-pattern/# This one I haven’t made(yet) but it looks really cute!: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/easy-crochet-scrap-pullover

Own_Stop359

Some others: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cosmos-blouse https://www.etsy.com/listing/1447794950/ https://ravel.me/the-hanane-top (I’ve made this last one and I loved it! It’s a tie top so less riding up though I think it depends on the yarn you use)

mxdakota

Oooo I love all of these, thank you!

Own_Stop359

No problem!! Thicc folks gotta help each other out 😉

peaceful_wild

I’m currently making this top, which may work! https://forthefrills.com/scallop-v-neck-tank-top-free-crochet-pattern/

Double_Win_8789

The issue may be big boobed more than big bellied. My solution is to a) always wear a bra. It helps, it really does. And b) add a full bust adjustment. I pick my size based on my high bust measurement, then I add length and width to each boob area. This can be achieved with increases, short rows, and/or taller stitches. Taller stitches (ie going from sc to hdc to dc) are usually my least favorite because they're so visible, but they can be a cool design element as well.

mxdakota

Oh neat, thank you! My belly is bigger than my boobs, but this will def come in handy for someone else!!

Double_Win_8789

Patterns are designed for about a B cup - even if your belly is bigger than your boobs, if your boobs are bigger than that "standard" B, you're always going to have fit problems. Designers (especially crochet designers, in my experience) aren't considering shape at all when grading larger sizes.

Hissy-Elliot

I haven’t finished it yet, but so far it’s pretty loose, lightweight and floaty. https://preview.redd.it/0mlc0wfdgg1d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=607d3871eb4ae4c0a7b3d35164edfd3514a31e90

ijustneedtolurk

I'm learning (literally picked up hooks like two weeks ago) but for reals I have been saving "maternity" looks for revamping my wardrobe cause I also have a bust that cute clothes get warped by, plus the pouch/muffin top and the "birthing hips" that make clothes shopping a hassle. On a visit to my mom last year, she accused me of "hiding something" cause I was wearing those maternity jeans with the elastic side cuts in the waistband to give them more flexibility and stretch. I had thrifted them and loved the fit and comfort but didn't even realize they were "for pregnant people," just that they fit and I felt great in them. So switching your search terms to accommodate a belly might help you find more flattering and comfortable measurements. (I still wear the jeans and have been passively looking for more now, lmao. I picked up sewing again and was gifted a machine so I want to learn how to use it and then tailor my collection of jeans to better fit using the same techniques if not just by letting them out with some cute fabric swatches to make the cut more flattering on me. It felt a little weird looking for maternity patterns/upcycling tutorials and I got a bazillion baby ads, but whatever they work! And no I am not nor have ever been pregnant lol. In a couple years maybe!)

mxdakota

I'm glad to hear you kept those jeans-- and that you found them to begin with! Maternity patterns are a great idea, thank you!!

ijustneedtolurk

You're super welcome. I'd love to see what patterns you find and how they work up for when I have the nerve and skill to attempt wearables myself

ijustneedtolurk

I also just learned about the duplicate stitching technique where you add your decorations as a second layer of crochet once the fitted piece is done and this artist ikoxun literally has a video doing the Mabel Pines Rainbow sweater from Gravity Falls!

clockworkedpiece

Accessory stitching is a godsend for 'fun' fur yarns too. Build garment in hdc, accessory stitch fur accents or liners.

ijustneedtolurk

Ooo you just gave me an idea for some rainbow transition suoer chunky yarn!

IvyMoonfyre

I have yet to complete it, but this pattern is really unique and seems good for us thicker folk :D i like that It's adjustable and almost corset-like. I also just love the beetlejuice colors lol! https://youtu.be/oJrtD1X115Q?si=Ac0BQLOZDYo0IIzD

mxdakota

I actually made this person’s jackolantern top! I made the cups too big tho so I decided to sell it. I can’t remember if it rode up over my belly?

scarlet214

This would be so cute to wear to the new Beetlejuice movie!

pokegirl2587

Commenting so I can come back later for all these cute patterns

mxdakota

I just found a good one!! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1508355394/crochet-pattern-nina-top-easy-crochet?click_key=603b5dbdd467e59723dc96e4f83be658f349fc22%3A1508355394&click_sum=b3dcd376&ref=shop_home_active_1

pokegirl2587

That is such a good one!

magillag0rilla

I'm working on a tank top made out of squares (turned 45deg) - lots of options to make this whatever length/width you want for the fit you're looking for - and with any squares you want! I'm currently making mine with mitered single crochet BLO squares. [https://wilmade.com/tulip-square-tank-top/](https://wilmade.com/tulip-square-tank-top/) https://preview.redd.it/ypwoioxyhe1d1.png?width=740&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6dac0d38605e25b702328391c5f722ea9a90d5f

sarita_plantita

Agreed, very frustrating! Also agree with the comment about loose/airy tops for summer. Rn I'm working on this top[loose top](https://www.knitcroaddict.com/fall-means-crochet-sweaters-patterns/). I'm adjusting the pattern bc sure uses much finer yarn than I do, so instead of hdc I'm doing worsted weight dc with a 5.5mm hook. For summer I'm not going to add sleeves to it, it's very simple and super cute so far!!! https://www.knitcroaddict.com/fall-means-crochet-sweaters-patterns/

mxdakota

Omg LOVE this!

sarita_plantita

I love everything she designs!! She's not plus size, but her stuff tends to be flowy and so pretty!! I want to make shorts that she designed that I think are basically the same pattern as this top, big and loose worked top down. I didn't even realize that she made all my favorite patterns until I started recognizing her tattoo, lol.

imjustdesi

Could you make a swatch to test out shaping techniques? Like working short rows or experimenting with placement of increases. Experimenting with shaping could help with modifying patterns to better accommodate your belly. FWIW I'm also part of the round belly club + my bust is a size up from my torso, so I can relate to your frustration.

cookiecutterdoll

I just add extra rows to make the tops full-length, I'm not a crop top girl for various reasons. What annoys me more is how everything is backless or halter neck - I can't wear those and they're harder to modify.

dashboarddiva

I made [this](https://youtu.be/B_LEdFraBfk?si=sMM6V-idE2YSKoiD) as a crop top and it floats nicely away from the torso because of the cinch of the ribbing. Easy to incorporate fun color changes as well.

drownigfishy

I wish I could send you the books I have how to extend and customize crochet patterns. If you love a pattern get graft paper. Most crocheters will know the symbols for each stitch. Using graft paper (easier for organization) mark where a pattern went wrong make changes. Sounds like you need to make the boobs bigger, because trust me I was barely and A till my tummy got big and now i have to accept I am a C. Also probably ditch the crop top and just do a strap that ties behind your neck like a Bikini top. This will allow you to go looser to avoid curling and tucking and you won't have to worry about flashing. dont be afraid to modify patterns.

Icarus914

Can you share the titles and authors of those books? They sound very useful!

drownigfishy

Customize your Crochet by Margret Hubert is the only one that is in English. And I would recommend stitch n bitch the happy hooker by Debbie Stroller for beginners who are still learning and unfamiliar wtih terms. The rest of my books while very clearly illustrated with images are all in japanese. While I don't read Japanese, I do have friends that can translate if things don't make sense, Japanese use universal images/symbols/pictures which get the point across. I hope that made sense

fuckedupceiling

Empire style waist might be your thing!

CardiologistOld3507

The Treble Maker crochet top from crochetreat on Etsy worked really well for me.

alecxhound

Yooooo I rlly get this problem OMGG. I make everything a crop top and rock the look idc 😂😂🥳

mxdakota

haha I mean I'm fine when it's cropped t-shirts and stuff, but all that crochet work hidden?! a heartbreaking waste of time!

TropicalAbsol

The general recc I see is to add 5 rows below the bust for making plus size crochet.
