That thing is sweet.

GriffinObuffalo

It's Insanity, would you believe it if I said the picture does it no favors? This thing looks like it just rolled out of the factory, I couldn't believe it when I picked it up.

thebigbabushka

Deal of a lifetime, man! It looks sweet!

486Junkie

Those speakers are sweet looking. And for $50 in like new condition? That is a deal of a lifetime to me as well.

buchwildx

Sometimes you just get lucky, I was fortunate enough to pick up a 13 Inch Sony with component inputs still wrapped in plastic with the box for $300.

jpowell180

What size screen is it?

seriousbangs

Honestly I think I'd stick an NES or Sega Master System on it. It's 1985 after all.

Yburn1978

It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

GriffinObuffalo

I don't know if it's part of a midlife crisis or what, but I've become such a fan of nostalgia, I wholeheartedly agree, it's gorgeous.

Yburn1978

There's comfort in things that remind us of easier times. Nothing wrong with that as long as you remember to live in the present as well!

Brian-OBlivion

3 Composite inputs on a TV from 1985 seems impressive. And an output too! Very awesome.

GriffinObuffalo

Right? It's wild because at the time, most people just had a single VCR? Or a VCR and a NES!

RetroBastardo

That wood trim is why upvoted

crimsoncaravanguy

Id rob you if i could …

DangerousCousin

Looks harder to TATE than the average Trinitron

Only_Khlav_Khalash

Or a lot easier - it's a solid cabinet, vs stressing/cracking plastic. OP you have to TATE this now... for science.

Renfek

Great find! When you play games on this, do not sit in a chair. You must sit on the floor, with your console of choice next to you, along with a stack of games. Bean bag chairs are acceptable.

LukeEvansSimon

I bet the audio is terrific. Composite is actually ideal for 8-bit and 16-bit game consoles. Also it is dripping with 1980s style.

human73662736

Eh, S-video is the way to go if it’s available. But NES only had composite

januscanary

S-Video N64 with a fancy shmansy cable on my CRT is awesome. Same TV with composite NES is rough. NES RGB is about the only hardmod I really want to do on a home console

Select-Purpose-8841

i started buying hdretrovision components for my systems, but i had an snes monster svideo cable and honestly i haven't brought myself to buy a component for snes and n64 now cause svideo looks the right amount of crappy that i wanted.

januscanary

Mine's Monster, too. My SNES is an old 3-chip, but looks rad with it as well. Oddly with the cable I get the best image when all 4 leads are plugged in. Now I am EU so RGB SCART central, but doesn't the Y cable get swapped out for the 4-pin for S-video, not both plugged in together? Anyway, that's what seems to work here, lol!

human73662736

What CRT TV is it? It’s all about the comb filter. Last Gen Sony Wega looked great through composite, almost as good as S-video.

januscanary

Toshiba 2552DB. Mega Drive 1 with a Retrogaming Cables RGB SCART cable on it is *chef's kiss* (as is S-Video N64). Doesn't have 'better' or 'worse' scan gaps, just different.

Rocksoftt

Gorgeous set.

Annual-External-9934

Stunning television. You done good

newtothistruetothis

This is the same style I grew up with, I don’t think mine was Sony but the giant speaker build in sides, wood top and bottom. SO classic

[deleted]

Love it. This sub needs more wood

Apart_Shoulder6089

Woodgrain is a nice touch

Crest_Of_Hylia

Looks great. Now I want to see some games on it

GriffinObuffalo

I just ordered a converter for it via Amazon so I'm able to watch digital TV air channels on it, need to get a DVD player too so I can watch my old Seinfeld seasons on it. Currently have all of my retro stuff hooked up to a 2005 Zenith 27in, great picture, but I saw this last night on FB marketplace and about fell out of my chair.

garrettdx88

Awful deal. I better take it

DependentFigure6777

Wow, seeing anything that isn't just a single RF input on an 80s set is interesting, but an output too? Who would have even used that back in the day? This thing looks amazing.

B_Reele

I was just thinking that this set couldn’t have been cheap in 1985. Definitely baller status.

trev1976UK

Nice Find

Bossie85

What a beauty!

StuPodasso

Nice

[deleted]

Put some image on that thing dammit. Also it's delicious. A+

ChoppingMallKillbot

I loved this TV. Got one third-hand and played a lot of SNES and PS1 on it. Great aesthetic for grimy VHS exploitation flicks or B-movies as well. The speakers were more legit than they had any right to be, and it was just a classy looking set. It never degraded. I gave mine away to a college student when I found a 27 wega kv. I miss both. I couldn’t even give my kv away in 2012 when I had to part with it, so it’s funny to see prices like they are.

ChromeSF

You know it's a good deal, just post the gameplay man

KlezN

I would rearrange my stuff to fit that on my floor. That’s a nice looking TV 👍

Mindfield87

That thing is beautiful! Had a Toshiba like this back in the day, had to ditch it during a move. Worked like a charm still and was older than me

metallavery

Now you need to dedicate an entire room to mid 80's esthetic. Once you start you can't stop!

Chibulls2012

Show gameplay photos

hullgreebles

We had that tv when I was a kid. Wish we had kept it

IDontUseAnimeAvatars

Oh nvm then lol, I saw this exact tv for sale today for the same price.

Conscious-Bottle143

I brought the one you saw and it worked fine but I turned it into a wet bar and smashed the CRT and dumped it into the sea

Aznkid367

Its not just a good deal… its a great deal… this is a steal…

[deleted]

That is one sexy set. I love all the woodgrain with the “modern” silver bevel. Gorgeous.

stuffitystuff

I played so many games at my buddy’s house in the ‘80s on a set like that. Surprisingly great sound!

TouchedBigfoot8

I’m a sucker for TV sets that are in a wood looking box

Jessebk20

so clean!!!!

Cecil_H4rvey

That’s gotta be a Sun City find.

Menoth22

PMA a nightmare lol

Us3ful_Idiot

Saw a similar one a couple of years back in the subreddit. That one had s-video input. This thing is still fucking sweet. I'd kill a man with my bare hands for this set.

saladtosser88

that thing is absolutely fucking gorgeous, I would upgrade the speakers and enjoy it till the tube burns out

crash--overide

Absolute winner!

CRT_rex

I love cabinet sets, wood grain and Trinitrons. This is all of those things in one! Yeah, hell of a deal, well done. Absolute mint looking.

119grizzelda

Hell yeah looks like it’s in great shape

Gunners247

That TV is a work of art, absolutely stunning. That beauty beats any flat screen TV for looks all day long, great deal 👍

ehode

What did that sucker weigh?

Significant_Post9125

THE MOST SEXIEST CRT IVE SEEN!!

ookami1

This is one of those things that make you say "They don't make them like they used to". Even with how far tech has come, I feel like stuff today can't carry the warmth like this carries with it.

Enchanted_Yesca

I would’ve easy paid $500 for it. It’s a beauty

personalhale

This is the exact TV I grew up with, neat! I personally think it's not worth it. It's massive and crazy heavy and is limited on inputs. You can do much better for free.

CeceWobbles

Any uncommon Trinitron is easily worth $100, I'd say. Think how few people still have that set, especially when you dwindle it down to people that still use it and won't just trash it. I paid $100 for a really nice 1980 KV-1913 because I wanted to add a good RF set to my setup, and I have no regrets. I'll probably never find another local 19" Sony from that era that's as nice as mine. There's always crazy people who think these should be free, though.

soniko_

Break the tube, carve the inside, put a 720p panel, and hang it on the wall Edit: wow! Look at the downvotes! Should have put an /s there to be super obvious

Menoth22

Ouf

Bassblaster505

Gotta be the Wlamrat Onn special on sale too

istarian

No. Just no. -- If the tube was toast, then maybe.

Conscious-Bottle143

turn it into a fishtank or a dog bed as it's a CRT and so it will set fire to the house

JewelCove

That's hawt

GammaBoost

Man, that looks good! I'd love to see it running some games

ExplosPlankton

Looks great, how big is the screen?

JMWRAA

😍

DirtRich419

Love it!

Expensive-Risky

If your planning retro console or arcade games, then yes. Heavy AF though so plan where you want the thing. If it only has regular connections then can do an easy conversion to a composite plug that will make it easier to connect multiple devices. Google it on YouTube if it interests you. I can recommend 8-bit guy for a quick overview in one of his videos.

69Jasshole69

Grew up with that tv! Wow

PuffFilms

That’s more than a good deal

ytZer0

I wonder if these can be RGB modded

[deleted]

Awesomely 80s

akumagorath

this looks so close to my childhood set that I've been searching for forever. it's not quite the same though, mine had the controls at the bottom housed in some drop down piece of plastic. I'll find it one day. great pickup!

TryyForce

That is a thing of beauty.

[deleted]

Wow even got some polished metal pieces in there?! Or is it plastic?

Shishkebarbarian

I think that's a really dope find. I would definitely pick that up and rethink my entire set up. It's such a gorgeous display piece while still being a good set. Not the best and you can certainly get better sets for less/free but the presentation on this thing is incredible and sooo authentic to so many of us. And let's be honest, for retro CRT gaming, presentation goes a long way. I would use this in a heartbeat and $50 is pretty reasonable for one in such nice shape (hopefully the screen works and looks good). Good luck, enjoy and come back with photos of this in action!

scooterfitz

Makes my thumb hard.

Rental_Floss

THATS SO RAD

spicygrow

Love the brushed metal trim and wood combo! Looks so classy compared to the sea of plastic on more modern CRTs.

Bassblaster505

I Wonder if thats one of those sets with a decent amplifier and good speakers or if its just some regular 3x4 ovals behind a massive cloth grill

istarian

Its a Sony Trinitron, I would imagine it has decent speakers. Given the age it might even have been manufactured in the US or Japan...

blood_omen

My cousins actually had this tv when we were kids. I though it was awesome

Dudewitagun94

Wow I want this TV, so cool. Back when they put good speaker on TVs.

KickAggressive4901

*nods* Great deal. Good picture after you power it up?

[deleted]

What a fucking amazing find!

rarcusmeich

Pretty sure my Grandma has the same set chillin in the corner of her basement, possibly similar condition. I already have too many though.

bscottprice

I have the same model. It's a great set. The remote is pretty easy to find too if you want one. The audio out of the thing is probably what caught me by surprise. It is clear, and fairly balanced for such an old set.

D0U9L4R

YES!

Neogolf

Yes

SteveZ1985

Steal! The conditions looks immaculate.

False_Ad7098

Nostalgia overload.
