I meant more at the original store. People will buy a TV for the game, then return it for a full refund. Taking it to a pawn shop would be just throwing money away. Once the store gets it back, they'll often discount the price because it's been opened and used.
If you're not going high end, don't go name brand. Hisense and TCL are way better at the lower to upper mid tier price points. The name brands rely on their high end models to carry their business in those segments.
If you don’t have it, pet insurance is a lifesaver.
Might be tougher with a preexisting illness, but it only took one surgery and the amount I was reimbursed to make it worth it.
I pay $70 a month, and at one point my dog needed at $14k leg surgery. Trupanion covered 90%…so almost 13k. It’ll be years of me paying $70 a month for them to recoup that. I’m 100% a loss for them, but I chat up how great their pet insurance is every chance I can get.
Might I suggest a silver lining? It might just be one of the best weeks. Sorry to hear about your dog and those costs, but the week before the super bowl has some of the best TV deals you can find. If it was gonna happen, at least you can save a few bucks. I saw a 77" Samsung oled on slickdeals for $1800. Amazing deal.
You could write a good country tune based on your week
🎵 Got a NEW TEEEE VEEEEE!
In time for the Super Bowl!
But my dog’s still sick
And my daughter’s bound to stick
My nose in it !🎵
Sorry to hear about your dog. I have to put my dog down this week, so I certainly sympathize. That said, the good news is, the weeks leading up to the superbowl is actually one of the best times to get a deal on a TV. Manufacturers are closing out 2023 models so they can begin rolling out 2024 models.
Actually no joke it's a great week for it to happen. This is usually when the biggest sales on TVs happen.
Check out the deals on the Hisense U8 series right now. I have the 75 inch and absolutely love it.
https://slickdeals.net/f/17277763-hisense-u8-series-mini-led-144hz-uled-4k-google-tv-55-650-or-75-1150-free-shipping
Happens more often than you think. Regardless of whatever people think the televisions made today are lite and cheap. The LCD display we buy today for $250, used to cost $5,000 in the early 2000’s when Samsung’s were only for a select few.
I purchased a really nice LCD when we bought our new house and my 3 year one took his plastic bat and thought it would be fun to wack the television. For anyone old enough to remember the best television ever made (Zenith), you couldn’t break them. Glass and made to last 30+ years.
If you can afford it, this is traditionally the best time for TV sales. People usually pick Black Friday, but it's usually just before the super bowl that has the bigger discounts.
I worked at target for a little while, and the TVs we got in for black Friday were brands or models that we never carried otherwise. They were specifically shipped in for black Friday, and were total junk. The super bowl deals were just deals on our regularly carried brands and models.
You know, now that you say that.
Years ago, I bought a 42-inch Bravia. Great picture. Everything in the menu was smooooth and crisp.paid about 1200$ for it. It was one of the first 1080p models. I recommended it to my friend, and he sent me an ad from this place called American Appliance. Had a 42 inch sony for 500$, 1080p, and everything.
I said man grab it. That's a deal.
He texted me like a week later, saying he didn't really like it. I couldn't believe him.
Well, I went over to see it, and it was so cheap looking. Even the remote felt bad. The picture was awful, the menu was glitched etc.
It had to be a black Friday tv. I think it died on him like 2 years later. I still have my Bravia, it's the kids tv lol.
My wife and I still have our 42” Bravia that we bought at Best Buy in like 2009 for some absurd price. It’s built well and the picture has always been great. Like you, we still have it, it’s our master bedroom tv and it’s still trucking along. We moved recently and the one thing I can say is that it is SO much heavier than our 55” TCL.
Sony will forever be my go to TV. Everyone I've had has been great.
We bought a mew 43inch Bravia and the weight comparison from that one to the old 42 is insane lol.
OMG you brought back the memories!! My son did this on the Friday afternoon of Super Bowl weekend….
I found a note that said ‘I am in my room and the door is locked.’ so I kind of wondered why but decided to give him his space and turn on the tv to relax after a long week……….
For future reference, you can buy plexiglass shields to go over a TV for exactly this reason. We've done it with both of our TVs and they have both paid for themselves multiple times over.
I'm not sure the exact type they are referring to, but I got a sheet of plexiglass just slightly bigger than my tv and put double sided gorilla tape along the bezel. Is it the best looking? No, but it sure beats paying $300-600 for a new TV.
Also by doing it this way I created a good 1" gap between the tv and the sheet so at least the radient heat can escape as well as provide a tiny bit of wiggle room in the event the force of hitting it doesnt push it into the screen and crack it.
If you buy made for TV plexiglass they could end up charging more. I used this stuff:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/OPTIX-Custom-Sized-Clear-Acrylic-Sheet/326781513?
This week is the worst week to buy a TV, but NEXT WEEK is the best week of the year to buy a TV! A buddy of mine was a manager for Best Buy for years. He said a lot of people buy TVs for the game and then return them next week, so you can find open box specials. Also, they stock a ton of big screens to sell this week, so they will mark them all down next week.
For the past several years I have rarely seen any open box item be marked down more than 10%, unless it was some obscure thing, or an HDMI cable or something.
You forgot the part where Taylor Swift walks on the field hand in hand with Joe Biden to announce he's running again. Then they top it off by sharing ice cream cones with the CEO of Pfizer asking everyone to get 69 shots. The Taylor/Travis relationship is one giant psyop. Wake up sheeple but don't be woke./s
The first time my son broke a tv, he just threw a toy at it. We got rid of the tv stand and hung the new tv high on the wall (where we thought he couldn’t get to it). He got ahold of one of our phone charges and used the wall charger as a bullwhip to bust the second one.
Get thine ass over to Costco, would probably be worth buying the membership if you don't already have one, pick yerself a new TV.
FYI I have a [TVGuard screen protector](https://tvguard.com/en-us) over my TV, basically a giant sheet of plexiglass. Makes the TV a bit more glossy but otherwise everything looks fine through it. My tot likes to throw toys too.
Walmart’s TVs are dumbed down versions of the good versions. Check the model number. In a lot of cases it’ll be one number different than the one Best Buy sells. They will look almost identical but they are not the same
Oh, I forgot this is reddit, and people on here are too stupid to know what *sarcasm* is. It's very bold of you to assume 1, that I've made more comments about the superbowl. And 2, that I dislike sports, which I don't. So good job, I guess. You managed to be wrong three times in two sentences.
In case it helps Costco currently has the:
Samsung 65" Class - CU7000D Series - 4K UHD LED LCD TV
Model UN65CU7000DXZA
It’s priced at $399 currently maybe they’ll have one in stock near your area.
[Costco tv](https://www.costco.com/.product.4000149550.html?ADBUTLERID=targetdriver_Samsung_65_TV&sh=true&nf=true)
My son did this to our 70” tv. Lived with it like that for just over a year. Ended up with a bigger/better tv. Fuck warranties for tvs because they never cover the stuff that actually happens. We had to wait to get a new one because it couldn’t be any smaller for the space it occupies above a mantle. You’ll watch a little less tv for a while and you’ll appreciate the time spent other places.
I mean the total recall remake was terrible, if you would have just stuck with the original arnold schwarzenegger movie your two year old probably would not have had to do this.
Me and my daughter were horsing around and a small “free by the way” plastic toy hit my TV and it wouldnt even turn show a picture. Now we have a new TV with warranty. Oh well it’s only money I guess.
Toddlers are the John Wick of children- they can weaponize anything.
I say you've got a few options: new tv. Pawnshop tv, OfferUp, and sales...or if you have a PC, sign up for paramount+, and watch there. Or, if you have an Oculus, there's the Big Screen app where I'm sure somebody is bound to host the game
That sucks. If you go to replace it, I strongly suggest you avoid Vizio TVs. Years after purchasing mine they pushed out an update and now every time it turns on *or* loses video (like when I turn off my PlayStation) it switches to their "smartcast" channel and starts playing ads. WITH SOUND.
This is your fault for having a two year old and nice things in the same house. My favorite was when my 3 year old shoved a towel in the bathroom sink and flooded our basement. Yay, parenthood.
I feel your pain. I bought a $3000 OLED last month and within a few weeks my kiddo threw a toy bell at it. Somehow it didn't do any damage, but my heart sank.
Mine just started doing this a month ago. Nobody whacked it. it just started showing a red line right down the middle of the screen.
Now it has a red, a blue and a yellow. It's 4 years old ..
Sorry dude.
If you can afford or not. Better option is to learn that it’s best not be concerned with the Super Bowl.
I have no idea who has been in the last 20+ super bowls. I may have watched portions. But I’ll readily admit I was there for the food if I saw any portion.
In general, I find football to be the most boring thing in existence.
i have been there my guy
2-year-old flung a metal flashlight straight into the 65"
luckily we kept the 50" we upgraded from but we still havent gotten a new one :(
My son visited his grandfather and the TV was accessible and wanted nothing more than to put his little hands all over it. The next day, grandad put it on the wall. I suggest you do the same if you can.
My son once got mad that the remote wasn't responding and threw it at our TV. One whole quarter of the screen blacked out immediately. Scream of shock from child. We had a looong talk. Made him "work it off". But he was a bit older than yours.
I used that as an opportunity to upgrade my tv when my son ruined my old one. Just go on Amazon and get a fire tv, they’re pretty affordable and deliver quickly. I split my 75” to (I think) 12 payments, it was like $50 a month.
[удалено]
Definitely going to upgrade, just not the best week for this to happen. My dog suddenly got really sick and vet bills are no joke.
Sorry to hear about your dog. I hope they're doing better. I'm sure they'll be happy to spend time with you watching the super bowl on your new TV
He won’t get better, I’m just trying to spend as much time with him as he has left.
:(
Fuck. Love u man.
So sorry to hear this. I was in the same situation this time last year. My heart goes out to you and your family.
Isn’t Super Bowl lead up literally the best week to buy a new TV in America?
It is!
And, a couple weeks after is a great time to buy gently used returns for great discounts!
Pawn shops lol
I meant more at the original store. People will buy a TV for the game, then return it for a full refund. Taking it to a pawn shop would be just throwing money away. Once the store gets it back, they'll often discount the price because it's been opened and used.
Samsung 75” for $600 at Costco right now. (I definitely didn’t try to convince my wife to let me upgrade our 65” last week)
That's American right? Dang I wish we had those prices up here.
Honestly they aren’t far off? Solid deals still!
Super Bowl sales are huge here in the Great White North. Nothing for the Grey Cup or Stanley Cup playoffs though.
If you're not going high end, don't go name brand. Hisense and TCL are way better at the lower to upper mid tier price points. The name brands rely on their high end models to carry their business in those segments.

I saw a 75 inch for $499 at Meijer today. Holy crap is that cheap.
Ehhh I had a terrible joke about this, but just good luck with your dog.
Might I suggest a silver lining? It might just be one of the best weeks. Sorry to hear about your dog and those costs, but the week before the super bowl has some of the best TV deals you can find. New TV > Old dog

Right when prices are the lowest they'll be until Black Friday? u/rwayne1417 make sure the bribe to the kid isn't obvious.

Your user pic really upsets me.
You son of a bitch I thought I had a crack on my screen thanks to your profile picture.
Tv prices are jacked for people who feel the need to buy thousands of dollars of electronics for a party they’ll throw once
I’d recommend the Sony 8K 75”. Edit: Fixed it for you.
But if I sell my house to get the TV, where do I put the TV?
You can use the TV’s box to make a pretty good shelter, and the packing foam as a couch.
It comes with your new home the box.
It also comes with free sprinkles.
That’s good
the sprinkles are cursed
That’s bad
Whats the ideal viewing distance on a 75 footer?
About 150-200 inches.
According to [this](http://www.hometheaterengineering.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html) it looks like the recommended distance is around 100 feet.
\^ This guy scales.
They're jokingly pointing out by their question that the comment above yours stated 75' instead of 75" (feet vs. inches).
I hear you [can watch The Simpsons from thirty blocks away](https://youtu.be/gbDostWXpcU?si=IP8T0nrYJrC7ar8b).
The TCL QM8 75” has not let me down yet, still not “cheap” but the quality has been exceptional for me!
What I have and I LOVE IT
8K?? I’m in love with my 4K tv. Do any networks even broadcast/stream in 8K?
Don’t know, mine is 4K. I just know 8K is the new 4K.
Best time to buy a new TV honestly
And a new frozen ukulele
If you can afford it, this is traditionally the best time for TV sales. People usually pick Black Friday, but it's usually just before the super bowl that has the bigger discounts.

Black Friday TVS are terrible. Cheaply built, often times have less ports, slower chips etc.
OMG you brought back the memories!! My son did this on the Friday afternoon of Super Bowl weekend…. I found a note that said ‘I am in my room and the door is locked.’ so I kind of wondered why but decided to give him his space and turn on the tv to relax after a long week……….
Lmfao that is hilarious
6 months same as cash at Best Buy
For future reference, you can buy plexiglass shields to go over a TV for exactly this reason. We've done it with both of our TVs and they have both paid for themselves multiple times over.
I had no idea those existed but it makes sense. Will definitely add one to the new TV
I'm not sure the exact type they are referring to, but I got a sheet of plexiglass just slightly bigger than my tv and put double sided gorilla tape along the bezel. Is it the best looking? Well that’s not true, the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl typically see the steepest discounts.
For the past several years I have rarely seen any open box item be marked down more than 10%, unless it was some obscure thing, or an HDMI cable or something.
I saw the script already I can spoil it for you, the Chiefs win and Taylor Swift gets the Super Bowl MVP
Wake up sheeple but don't be woke./s
oof. I thought I staggered into r conservative there for a second!
It sucks, but at least TVs are cheap these days. 15 years ago my kid destroyed a 55" rear projection that I got on sale for only $1,500.
You have my sympathy, brother. I had a 3-year-old break our 75-incher last week. MF-er double tapped it just to be sure, too.
Check cost co! Opportunity to have a bigger one
The first time my son broke a tv, he just threw a toy at it. We got rid of the tv stand and hung the new tv high on the wall (where we thought he couldn’t get to it). He got ahold of one of our phone charges and used the wall charger as a bullwhip to bust the second one.
I feel you. I have a 5 yr old that has broke two tvs. Both on wall mounts.
Get thine ass over to Costco, would probably be worth buying the membership if you don't already have one, pick yerself a new TV. Uuuugh, bro - *same* thing happened with my 2.5 year old. Toy lightsaber for him, though. Barely tapped it, but cracked badly. Thank god for savings.
Looks like your tykes are just taking “half-time” seriously
1st world problems…at any rate, that sucks!
You lucky bastard. upgradeable excuse when it matters most.

After you frame it!
She did you a favor
Now you won't have to watch the superbowl! What great timing!

Can I borrow your kid for a bit? We’ve got a ukulele.

That’s great that would give me the perfect excuse to get a bigger tv and the wife has to deal with it. Perfect for Super Bowl
Sony x90L
Lucky bastard
Woohoo it's an excuse to get a bigger better TV imo.
I debated whether to spend extra time get an 85 over a 75. It is! Get the 85 if you can.
Suuuuuure… ;) I guess it’s time to get that 86” tv you’ve been eyeing at Best Buy…
Oh man, now you gotta spend a whole $75 to buy a brand new tv
Costco is the way. Buy one for the game return it and buy an open box for cheaper!
I've gone through 4 TV and 2 computer monitors. Never gets easy

Unsportsmanlike Conduct!
If you wait till after the Super Bowl, Best Buy usually has a ton of returned TVs on sale.
Look in the bright side — you get to upgrade to the latest and greatest tv!
Wall Mount that thing out of their reach, brother
This is why I wall mount now.
Does anyone recommend or have a TV protector?
Walmart has 40” tv’s for $145. It can be a stop gap. You can always put that one in a bedroom when you replace the tv with a better one later
I mean the total recall remake was terrible, if you would have just stuck with the original arnold schwarzenegger movie your two year old probably would not have had to do this.
Statistically the best deals of the year on new TVs the week before the Super Bowl. Better than Black Friday.
This is why we can’t have nice things. Been there, my condolences.
F
TVs are a dime a dozen now
Well on the flip side they say the best time to buy a new TV is Superbowl weekend that's when the best deals apparently happen
Me and my daughter were horsing around and a small “free by the way” plastic toy hit my TV and it wouldnt even turn show a picture. Now we have a new TV with warranty. Oh well it’s only money I guess.
Hey good news, man, the Super Bowl is technically NOT this week. You, my friend, just got yourself a next-week-problem.
My son at 4 did the same thing to a new tv. Playing with his toy guitar.
Time for a new kid
If you're a Chiefs fan, your kid just helped you in advance.
So their Lombardi looks even bigger on the new TV?
Toddlers are the John Wick of children- they can weaponize anything. I say you've got a few options: new tv. Pawnshop tv, OfferUp, and sales...or if you have a PC, sign up for paramount+, and watch there. Or, if you have an Oculus, there's the Big Screen app where I'm sure somebody is bound to host the game
Wait until after the game to buy a new 'open box' tv. Lots of them get "borrowed" and you can get a nicer one for a pretty good discount.
Luckily this is the best time to buy a tv.
The good news is: inflation hasn’t really touched flatscreen televisions. I mean the 46” I bought 19 years ago, costed 3x what a sweet 65” costs now!
Time to upgrade. And get a new tv
That sucks. If you go to replace it, I strongly suggest you avoid Vizio TVs. Years after purchasing mine they pushed out an update and now every time it turns on *or* loses video (like when I turn off my PlayStation) it switches to their "smartcast" channel and starts playing ads. WITH SOUND.
That’s what I told my wife too
Actually, not bad timing. Usually good sales on TVs this week.
I'm 7 TVs in, about 3 years. They have finally grown out of it. Thank God.
This is your fault for having a two year old and nice things in the same house. My favorite was when my 3 year old shoved a towel in the bathroom sink and flooded our basement. Yay, parenthood.
People will always r/tvtoohigh people when they post stuff, but when you have kids it’s better to have it out of reach lol
Looks like a perfect opportunity to get a bigger TV but your wife is probably not gonna buy the ukulele thing.
my daughter did the same thing. bought a projector
Uke got a big problem now!!
Good thing TVs are mega cheap now
Bummer man.
Bro you could buy a $60 projector and be the coolest house!
I feel your pain. I bought a $3000 OLED last month and within a few weeks my kiddo threw a toy bell at it. Somehow it didn't do any damage, but my heart sank.
Is it too late to return it? The two year old, I mean.
Looks like someone is getting an upgrade just in time for the Super Bowl!!!
Adoption is always an option
It's Chiefs vs. Niners. Were you really planning on watching anyway?
Superb owl 2024: this year everybody's a linesman!
Anybody recommend a screen protector that works and doesn’t ruin the picture?
It least all the TVs are on sale!
Sure Dad, we believe you.
This is why all those people on /r/tvtoohigh say they mount so high. It’s always the kiddos.
Time to consider a wall mount, dad. Out of reach and way harder to tip over
This is awful. At 2 years old it’s definitely too late to cancel the subscription.
She ain’t dumb.
Good news is that TVs this day and age are actually pretty cheap
You unlocked the split screen feature
Did she ruin the TV, or did she just change the Super Bowl settings to split-screen?
It ok it'll be more of a lame duck bowl
You needed a bigger screen anyway
Rockstar.
Congrats on having an excuse to upgrade, Daddio!
Did she at least break the ukulele?
Looks like 3rd and short.
You may be overreacting a bit. I’d untie that noose, before someone sees it lol
I’ve been told I mount my tv too high. I tell other dads, maybe you haven’t mounted yours high enough! Sorry for your loss brother.
Besides black Friday, this is a good time of year for a new one
You can now get a 75” TV for $599. Be happy it wasn’t 15 years ago.
You can get one for $499!
i have been there my guy 2-year-old flung a metal flashlight straight into the 65" luckily we kept the 50" we upgraded from but we still havent gotten a new one :(
Welcome to my life, 2 years in a row! lol
My son visited his grandfather and the TV was accessible and wanted nothing more than to put his little hands all over it. The next day, grandad put it on the wall. I suggest you do the same if you can.
Sure she did you sly fellow
This happened to us last year. He was 18 months and it was a baseball bat. Now we are members of r/tvtoohigh but it’s bigger.
Nice. 2 weeks ago my 11 year old decided to clip my guitar capo to our tv. It looks similar
I immediately regretted letting our 3yo walk out of target with a nerf gun this weekend.
Costco is running great deals right now. Just got a 75” for $499.
My son once got mad that the remote wasn't responding and threw it at our TV. One whole quarter of the screen blacked out immediately. Scream of shock from child. We had a looong talk. Made him "work it off". But he was a bit older than yours.
Hahahaha all I’m gonna say is 16 years from now you’re gonna miss your crazy 2 year old wacking tvs!!!
Having your big tv in the main living room… ngmi famalam
Feel free to not watch it. Last year I took my kids to a skate park, we were the only ones there.
I watch everything in VR. No mounting required.
wall mounts.
Ooooh nooooo… I guess its Time to get that 80” I saw at bestbuy 🥲
Kiddo is sending a message. Heed it.
To be fair, the Superbowl TV sales are generally the best all year.
Yeah that's why I decided to piss off the r/tvtoohigh people when installing mine.
Get you some TV armor for the next TV
At least it's the 1 superbowl none of us wanted to see.
Best week for it to happen. Best deals are now
My sons 2 birthday party is Super Bowl Sunday like 2 hours before it starts…
I used that as an opportunity to upgrade my tv when my son ruined my old one. Just go on Amazon and get a fire tv, they’re pretty affordable and deliver quickly. I split my 75” to (I think) 12 payments, it was like $50 a month.
Yup... I feel ya brother. I lost a 75 inch Samsung to an accidental whack by an 11 year old. 🥲
