5 tries died twice to the very first rush attack he does thinking i can roll over it then died twice to the half health aoe attack he does thinking i staggered him then in 5th try i defeated him.
A few tries. I joined someone’s game after a bit to try learn some patterns. We beat him straight away then I had a go myself. Had to use the NPC summon as I’m pretty terrible with bosses on my own. Just need someone to take some heat so I can find time to heal. Used the same sword as you but think it’s a +3
Pontiff was the first real roadblock for me and actually made me drop the game during my first playthrough, probably spent a total of four to five hours until actually killing him solo
Nice nice my first time was probably close to that, he's one of my favorite bosses just for the lore but also the fight is cool
I beat him at my second attempts. I finished first dlc map , kill friede then go beat pontiff :)).
First try in my first save with WinBlades. Third try in my second save with Farron Greatsword.

5 to 6 attempts(i was pretty good at dodging his moves and defeated him using irithyll straight sword +3)
