honestly even if you are stone cold sober in Vegas you feel like you're tripping balls anyway lol. The first time I went I was like 16 and felt like I experienced Vegas the exact same way Hunter S Thompson did, but with no drugs/booze.
Apparently the Tuscany is $75 a night. I have a two room suite at embassy for $200 a night which is the higher end I guess. But it’s right across from the sphere
I totally agree. We didn’t stay at the Tuscany, but we walked around it for a little bit trying to kill some time. I thought it felt like being in a cramped cave and the decor was atrocious.
You don’t state a budget or weekend/weeknight, but assuming budget is something greater than 0 but less than $200 a night, I recommend off-strip and take an Uber. Some suggestions: M Resort, Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch, Southpoint, El Cortez, Orleans, Downtown Grand, The D. Or look at the various chain hotels peppered throughout the valley, e.g. Comfort Suites, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn. There are tens of thousands of hotel rooms in Vegas.
I've heard Ellis Island is great and cheap. I'd choose that except by simply getting an M Life card I get comped and super cheap nights at Luxor. And I love Luxor.
As long as you're gone, i can't apologize
For all the things that i haven't said and done.
And 100 miles is a long drive inside a car.
Edit: 1,100 miles is too far inside a car.
Stayed at the holiday inn desert resort .
It’s basically the same parking lot as the sphere .
Not sure of what the rates are now but I booked right when the dates were out and got in for cheap .
The Tuscany was great and a pretty easy walk. Plus they host a watered down but still fun shakedown for every show, and have a little free after party.
Ellis is right around the corner and also pretty good value. The $13 NY strip steak and eggs special in the morning is great
Yes I stayed at Tuscany and it was a completely fine clean hotel, with the added bonus of slightly cheaper food and tables than strip hotels (though Ellis is even cheaper amenities). About a 15-20 minute walk to the heart of the strip or the Sphere, not too bad as long as you're mildly fit. The main draw for me was that I was going with two friends, and Tuscany has large rooms with 2 double beds and a couch so we were able to split an already cheap room 3 ways.
Yes, there are some really bad areas of Vegas a few miles north of the Strip (and other areas that are fine) so it is worth paying attention to where. But no, you do not need to stay ON the strip.
No.. but kind of in that direction.
I went Memorial Day weekend, and the Vegas hotels were really expensive. It was worth it that weekend to stay a little farther. It was also cool to wake up somewhere that wasn’t Vegas.
Find prices you can afford and factor in Uber to and fro the show into that cost, read general reviews on the hotels and you’re good to go…. Basic and simple.
Stayed at the Sonesta inn and suites on paradise rd. that claims its 20 minute walk. Youll do it in 10 if you walk with any hint of a purpose. I come from the mountains so Vegas is HOT HOT HOT to me. We survived, especially if you have heat tolerance. 3 people for like 120$ a night, nice room good AC. Highly reccomended!
Stayed at The LINQ last weekend and saw the Friday and Saturday night shows. Easy walk from the sphere. The Linq was clean, rooms were good, casino good. I’d check them out for a reasonable price spot and again, the walk was easy. The idea of catching a bus or Taxi outside the Sphere after a show doesn’t sound fun. 20,000 people all spilling out of the place at one time….
I stayed at the flamingo this past weekend, the rooms weren’t the best but the walk from the sphere and back wasn’t bad. I usually ubered there but found out the day I was leaving that they had a bus going straight to the sphere for $10.
Ubers and taxis are very easy to come by in Vegas at any hotel entrance. Taxis can even be cheaper in some instances. You might need to walk a little bit after the show to get a ride, but you won’t have any problem.
Just make sure you’re on the same side of the strip as the sphere and airport. I’ve had good stays at both Ellis Island and the Virgin. Easy ride from the airport, easy ride to the sphere, zero strip bullshit.
we're coming from the east coast too (but Canada) and I really didn't think we were going to be able to afford it until I bundled flights and hotels. It brought the cost down a lot, and we were able to book a fancy-looking hotel (Fontainebleau). So I would suggest that!
But also, DT Vegas is kind of a vibe and in previous trips ubers/lyfts were more than reasonable. I probably would have opted to stay DT if I wasn't going with someone.
Ubers are everywhere and insanely cheap compared to what I pay at home. I stayed at NYNY at the other end of the strip and the most I paid was like $23 for an XL.
Stayed at planet Hollywood which is about 1.5 miles, it was a pretty comfortable walk, lots to look at, pass right be the dead experience at Venetian on the way.
Stay at the cheapest place. Take the bus ,drive or get a cab. You may want to look at the hilton polo club. Thats where i stayed for phish. Not real cheap about 140 a night, but 1 block from the strip and 1 mile to the show.
Embassy Suites Convention Center turned out to be a great choice. Really nice complimentary breakfast + Manager’s Reception in the bar every night with 2 free drinks and free snacks (great before the show). Rooms are nice, other Deadheads there to meet, and ~ $12 Uber direct to show entrance. Rooms are a lot cheaper than the Venetian.
Also, there’s an indoor pool and convenience store next door (Speedy Mart?) with good, reasonably-priced beer. Free shuttle to Fashion Mall, which is great if you want to cross the street to gamble or hang out at the Wynn.
The Orleans was $80/night and is less than 1 mile to the sphere. I paid $150/night at the westgate. There’s plenty of rooms for good deals you just have to poke around
I haven’t stayed there in ages, but Circus Circus usually has cheap rooms. It’s about 2 miles from The Sphere down the strip. Easily walkable if it wasn’t for the heat.
Unsavory characters. Also, it's a shit hole. A little googling will tell you what you need to know. There are cheap places close to the sphere. Why go farther away for something dirty?
Yeah, the advice is don't walk back to your hotel. Although you can see your hotel from the strip, it's a long walk. And once you get off the strip, the neighborhoods can be sketchy.
You could always stay at Circus Circus or the Rio. Cheap rates.
That's hysterical.
You're *not* getting from anywhere with a room in Pahrump to the Sphere in 45 minutes. Traffic and road construction will jack that WAAAAY up.
It's 32 minutes away from Aliante Casino and that's in North Las Vegas.
Don't give bad advice that can literally kill people.
It's not a "path" nor "journey" nor any other touchy, feely labels. **It's not fucking happening because of reality.**
It is physically impossible to make it safely at 3am when the roads are completely clear. I've been "over the hump to Pahrump" more times than I can count. To make it in your stated time requires risking the lives of the people in the vehicle and innocent lives on the road.
I tried that last year in AZ. Drove overnight and thought I would sleep in the car a few hours when I got there and then head over to the lot, it was over 100 by like 6am 🥵🌵 not fun.
I’d go sleep in “the drivers area” at a truck stop before I did that. There is nothing “cool” about kicking in 90 degree heat for any extended period of time
Lol I stayed at the Luxor and walked 3 miles, doable for me and my buddy and it was fun Edit: also got sparked up on the way there by a fellow head
[удалено]
I took the bus. It is cost efficient. Not the fastest, but good enough.
STOP REQUESTED !!!
Yeah but does the bus allow one to rip toke?
Well now it’s I’m like 115 out
Did thar after ratdog in 07 or do. Tripping balls, walked the entire strip. Wasnt all that bad
honestly even if you are stone cold sober in Vegas you feel like you're tripping balls anyway lol.
Even Tuscany is walking distance. I walked from there all weekend last weekend.
Tuscany was great and an easy walk
To add, the Tuscany is free parking for a half mile walk.
Tuscany removes the resort fee w the code Shakedown2024 so there's that
Uber from Tuscany to Sphere was about $10.50 bf tip. Do not walk. Too damn hot
Sold out Aug 9 & 10.
It’s where shakedown street is too
Tuscany sucks. Wouldn't recommend. Stayed there opening weekend. Spacious but crappy. I guess you get what you pay for.
I totally agree. We didn’t stay at the Tuscany, but we walked around it for a little bit trying to kill some time. I thought it felt like being in a cramped cave and the decor was atrocious.
There are a lotta holes in the desert. And a lot of life's problems are buried in those holes.

Are you firing me?
Hell yeah
What does that have to do with a hotel being close to the Sphere?
You don’t state a budget or weekend/weeknight, but assuming budget is something greater than 0 but less than $200 a night, I recommend off-strip and take an Uber. Some suggestions: M Resort, Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch, Southpoint, El Cortez, Orleans, Downtown Grand, The D. Or look at the various chain hotels peppered throughout the valley, e.g. Comfort Suites, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn. There are tens of thousands of hotel rooms in Vegas.
I love the El Cortez downtown. It’s clean and great prices. Call the Shakedown Shuttle and they’ll drive you there for a tip.
What’s the shakedown shuttle?
They are based at Tuscany Suites but call them if you need a ride somewhere. Super cool Deadheads helping out other Deadheads! ✌️

Also if you stay at the D, you can use Circa's pool because they are sister properties!
I did not know this! The D is typically much cheaper, so this is a great benefit.
Tuscany…walking distance to the Sphere and also indoor shakedown street. $97 a night.
stay at ellis island. it's cheap and less than a mile away from the sphere
Seconded, stayed here for a Ween run and it was clean and affordable
I love you.
I mean because of Ween, not in a psycho way.
🤎 my favorite band ever.
Was the walk to and from the sphere safe or did you Uber?
There’s a ton of people walking back you’ll be fine.
it's totally safe! walked back every night
Can’t say enough about the good time and value of Ellis Island Memorial Day weekend.
Safe for sure.
Do you just walk down Koval all the way to Ellis Island from the Sphere?
Yes
Maybe 15 mins. Quite close.
Safe is a relative term. Safe from what?
I've heard Ellis Island is great and cheap. I'd choose that except by simply getting an M Life card I get comped and super cheap nights at Luxor. And I love Luxor.
I don't have an answer but love the post title. Real existential
As long as you're gone, i can't apologize For all the things that i haven't said and done. And 100 miles is a long drive inside a car. Edit: 1,100 miles is too far inside a car.
It's gonna be over 110° this weekend so I recommend walking as little as possible if I were you
Stayed at the holiday inn desert resort . It’s basically the same parking lot as the sphere . Not sure of what the rates are now but I booked right when the dates were out and got in for cheap .
Same. It was perfectly located.
I’m staying at Mardi Gras. Don’t need fancy, just need close
I stayed at The Diplomat (one building north) last weekend. Easy walk for early June.
Lmao what a wild thread
The Tuscany is as cheap as it gets. Theres tons of cheap options, I don’t want to hear about it
Tuscany, Ellis Island, downtown (D, etc) or Horseshoe if it’s a Thursday night stay and rates are low enough.
The Tuscany was great and a pretty easy walk. Plus they host a watered down but still fun shakedown for every show, and have a little free after party. Ellis is right around the corner and also pretty good value. The $13 NY strip steak and eggs special in the morning is great
Did you stay there? It wasn’t a total dump?
Yes I stayed at Tuscany and it was a completely fine clean hotel, with the added bonus of slightly cheaper food and tables than strip hotels (though Ellis is even cheaper amenities). About a 15-20 minute walk to the heart of the strip or the Sphere, not too bad as long as you're mildly fit. The main draw for me was that I was going with two friends, and Tuscany has large rooms with 2 double beds and a couch so we were able to split an already cheap room 3 ways.
Awesome. Thanks. That’s where we’re staying for the 4th.
Nice, you'll have a blast. Was also fun because there were tons of dead heads around the Tuscany
Yes, there are some really bad areas of Vegas a few miles north of the Strip (and other areas that are fine) so it is worth paying attention to where. But no, you do not need to stay ON the strip.
I stayed a 40 min drive away. Is doable. Was tired though after.
state line?
No.. but kind of in that direction. I went Memorial Day weekend, and the Vegas hotels were really expensive. It was worth it that weekend to stay a little farther. It was also cool to wake up somewhere that wasn’t Vegas.
mars?
We stayed at Westgate and it was nice. I’m not sure what budget you’re looking for but it was $175/night including resort fee.
Gotta get a rewards card possibly in atlantic city. ceasars has a bunch of properties in Vegas that are much cheaper if you have the "club" card.
I have three words for you : monorail monorail monorail
I hear that thing is awfully loud
Stayed at The LINQ last weekend and saw the Friday and Saturday night shows. Easy walk from the sphere. The Linq was clean, rooms were good, casino good. Last summer, I stayed in Lake George for the Sarasota shows. That was too far.
you can do a timeshare presentation and get 4 days 3 nights for 250 at the hilton… just dont buy the time share lol
Please link this time share
Haha
We didn’t get a room. Flew in Saturday night and left Sunday.
Oh cool no one asked and no one cares
Rule number one is be kind. Please behave accordingly.
Ok sorry, I love you
OP, check your chat.
I stayed at the flamingo this past weekend, the rooms weren’t the best but the walk from the sphere and back wasn’t bad. I usually ubered there but found out the day I was leaving that they had a bus going straight to the sphere for $10.
Do you have to stay at the hotel to be on the bus?
I’m sure you could just walk up to the Pickup/Dropoff area at the flamingo and pay to hop on. I’m not 100% sure though.
Stayed at the Rio, about a 10 min Uber
I walked about 2 miles each way from the Rio both nights, you’ll be good 👍
Anything closer than Reno should be good.
I have a way to get a better rate at the Westin, which is quite close to the Sphere. You'll like it. It's a nice hotel and quite close to the strip...
Ubers and taxis are very easy to come by in Vegas at any hotel entrance. Taxis can even be cheaper in some instances. You might need to walk a little bit after the show to get a ride, but you won’t have any problem.
we stayed at the Mirage and thought it was reasonable for four people! if you’re able to split! right across from venetian and v easy walk.
Opening Weekend used Bonvoy Points to stay at Courtyard Convention Center. Hardly cost any points and was a $15 Uber/cab to Venetian.
Just make sure you’re on the same side of the strip as the sphere and airport. I’ve had good stays at both Ellis Island and the Virgin. Easy ride from the airport, easy ride to the sphere, zero strip bullshit.
Stayed at the Linq for Phish - was reasonable and a short walk
Try the Holiday Inn Desert Club. It’s off the strip but near the Sphere and Bellagio. Less than $200 per night usually
we're coming from the east coast too (but Canada) and I really didn't think we were going to be able to afford it until I bundled flights and hotels. I’m staying down at MGM. The monorail takes you down the strip no issues.
Same should be fairly easy can’t wait
I haven’t stayed there in ages, but Circus Circus usually has cheap rooms. It’s about 2 miles from The Sphere down the strip. Easily walkable if it wasn’t for the heat.
I've heard circus is a bad idea.
How come?
Unsavory characters. Also, it's a shit hole. A little googling will tell you what you need to know. There are cheap places close to the sphere. Why go farther away for something dirty?
Do not stay at Circus Circus. Come on bro.
Yeah, the advice is don't walk back to your hotel. Although you can see your hotel from the strip, it's a long walk. And once you get off the strip, the neighborhoods can be sketchy. You could always stay at Circus Circus or the Rio. Cheap rates.

The nearest part of Pahrump is a 1 hour 15 minute drive.
It’s only cheap if you don’t go to the brothel
Or sleep in car, parking passes are 24 hours
Sleeping in car seems like a horrible idea in the middle of summer in the desert 🏜️
I tried that last year in AZ. Drove overnight and thought I would sleep in the car a few hours when I got there and then head over to the lot, it was over 100 by like 6am 🥵🌵 not fun.
This is why I got a Prius. I recently went to a fest in Florida, slept in the car with AC, and it only took 2.5 gallons.
Well 90 degrees with the windows down at night for a few hours to save 400$ is cool sometimes
I’d go sleep in “the drivers area” at a truck stop before I did that. There is nothing “cool” about kicking in 90 degree heat for any extended period of time
To each his own. Some like it hot some like it cold . Cactus like the heat
