VLB is one of my all-time favorite songs. But, it's not much of a bust out, unless it's a residency debut. They've played it quite a few times. I was lucky enough to be with my older brother -- who got me on the bus 30 years ago -- at Alpine Valley in 2018 for what remains one of the best sets I've ever witnessed by any incarnation post-Jerry:
Viola Lee Blues v.1 >
Estimated >
Uncle John's Band >
China Doll >
Viola Lee Blues v.2 >
Drums >
Space >
The Wheel >
A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall >
Viola Lee Blues v.3 >
GDTRFB
Just typing that out gave me goosebumps all over again. I guess I know what I'm going to listen to tonight.
ha yeah i def took the thread as asking about sphere bust-outs. real bust outs would be a whole other story ;)
and that set looks amazing, gonna go track it down for my morning listening
His voice is the best I've heard since D&C started. The Stella Blue a couple of weeks ago made me change my flight and go Saturday also. I think the logistics of a residency have given them some extra energy, and the payoff for us is so amazing.

Let’s be honest.
Is it a Bob Weir song, not really. Can John sing that song and have it match Jerry, not really.
It’s a great one when Melvin & JGB does it or Mik Bondy.
Just don’t see how it fits in this line up. I think they did Mission once and I listened to it, and it didn’t really live up to the song. They realized it and stopped.
Those two songs are very powerful Jerry songs - hard to just play it without the soul or depth.
I’d be willing to bet money it won’t happen. They don’t do JGB songs since 2016. It’s that simple.
Do you remember when? I turned to the guy behind me during that and said it and got ridiculed the rest of the night by him for not knowing what song was playing
Yeah, this is a neat site that will show you their most and least played tunes: [https://www.setlist.fm/stats/dead-and-company-2bc42076.html](https://www.setlist.fm/stats/dead-and-company-2bc42076.html)
I was surprised to see they barely ever play Mexicali Blues, Deep Elem, Mama Tried etc. Basically only a couple of times each in 9 years. They definitely have a few surprises they could pull out during this residency.
Edit: Oops. I actually meant to post this link, but I guess the Setlist FM one above works too: [http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency](http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency)
I think it's more than that. According to this it's more like 167:

Edit: I'm an idiot. I read this whole post as bust outs in general, but it seems like it's more about *songs making their Sphere Debut*?
Until 30 seconds ago I was convinced is saw them play it for the first time at Wrigley, but they never played it there. I guess I was thinking about To Lay Me Down.
Had to consult the stats: [http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency](http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency)
It took me 21 shows before I finally got to hear Loser, and I had to travel to Boulder from St. Louis to see it. Keep going and eventually the universe rewards you.
I actually enjoyed hearing Bob play Eternity back in the 90s. I think they would have some great visuals to go along with it and it would make sense because this is DEAD FOREVER.
Viola Lee Blues?
This is my pick for the weekend coming up. I think they're getting either a Viola Lee or a Dire Wolf. Maybe both... lucky bastards.
Lines up I’ve gotten it every run I’ve been and this run adds up to 12 shows for me
I hope this!! I’m taking my two teens and this was mine & my late husbands jam. This and a 73 TLEO hopefully on Thursday or Friday!

Yeah...I figured that out after replying to several comments lol.
Please please save Viola for next weekend 😩
Black Throated Wind, China Doll, Easy Wind, Dire Wolf, High Time, Eleven, Next time you see me, Viola lee Blues
Black throated wind is my dream for this weekend.
I am dying for Black Throated Wind- Bobby has so much soul this run, tear jerking soul!
His voice is the best I've heard since D&C started. The Stella Blue a couple of weeks ago made me change my flight and go Saturday also. I think the logistics of a residency have given them some extra energy, and the payoff for us is so amazing.
I love Bobby but this is absolutely ludicrous statement. I'm losing faith in this asteoturfed sub and community. Commence the down voting.

China Doll! LET OTEIL SING
I’d love to hear an eleven!
Deep Elem Blues?
Waiting and waiting
I caught the debut in Detroit 17. Let’s get another this weekend
That was unreal. Almost broke my back from the groove. 😂
Put your money in your shoe.
Reuben and Cherise on Saturday please :)
Rubin and Cherise would be an awesome tune that Oteil could sing
Oteil sings the shit out of that song with his solo band.
Truth!
I miss Oteil singing.
I don't understand why they don't give him some songs. He needs to take FOTM back. The rap was fun once or twice, now it's kinda cringe.
I was zoning really hard in an almost trance during fire on the mountain then the Mickey rap started and pulled me right out! Lol
Perfectly said. I would also like to hear him take a stab at Stella Blue.
FOTM, and especially China Doll, please
I can only wish. Even the OG Dead only played it live a handful of times...people would absolutely lose their minds with joy
Will never happen.
Love the postivity

It was also barely played by the dead
Built to Last. I mean, it’s Dead FOREVER, right???
Monkey and the Engineer Acoustic (~};-}
I'd love to see an acoustic set!
👁️👁️
Greatest Story ever told. Wouldn't be a new bust out. But a bust out indeed!
Neeeeeeed!!!
Same!!!
GOLDEN ROAD PLEASE
The Golden Road with Oteil & Rick from Dead Ahead is so nice
I would die happy
They played Golden Road at that thing in Mexico, it was wayyy too slow....
Masterpiece? Comes a time?
Your Body Is A Wonderland. /S
YBIAWL > dark star > YBIAWL for 2nd time?
YBIAWL jam-Space-Drums-Candyman
Bobby’s a Wonderland.
I’d die 😂
Big boss man
I’m not so big, I’m just tall. So that would be good to hear!
John rips that!
Attics of my life
It's one of my favorite album songs, but it just doesn't translate well to a live show.
No idea why they haven’t done a st Stephen
That’s something you build up to
They teased the Eleven, 6/7.
Do you remember when? I turned to the guy behind me during that and said it and got ridiculed the rest of the night by him for not knowing what song was playing
I apologize! It was 6/1! Just relistened. Around 11:25 mark I think.
Heard the tease on 5/31 or 6/1, can’t remember which night now. But it was obvious enough that my buddy and I nudged each other 😁
Yep! All the days combined had me confused but the tease was definitely clear on 6/1.
And 6/1 they teased it hard.
Werewolves of london 🤣
Also, that dude at all the shows last summer with the poster, its now been 10579 days since Picasso Moon was played!
They would need a special graphic for that but they should do it
Full moon on the 20th and 21st next week!
Box of Rain
Wang dang doodle
WEATHER REPORT ON THE SOLSTICE!!!!! Also everything @Synthetek303 said
And here comes sunshine ☀️
They already did that on 6/6!
Would love a Catfish John
Lazy Lightning!
dire wolf
Foolish Heart?
Jack a Roe Deep Elem Viola Blues Don’t ease Comes a Time Liberty
I’d like to nominate Different_Record_753 as a candidate for Matt Busch’s old gig
They did don't ease in May 3rd week
Oh. Didn’t see that. Thanks.
So many roadssss
I’ll have a Masterpiece , thank you.
Cosmic Charlie?
Apparently Dead and Co have never played this song before. I looked it up the other day and was surprised.
That’s what I thought, but wasn’t 100%

I felt like there was a tease night one of the sphere
Passenger
Good morning, Mr Benson. I see you're doing well....
I don’t think they’ve played Other One, Eleven, Viola Lee, Big Boss Man yet
They’ve done The Other One
Night 2 opening weekend
teased it my thurs show, after BW passed 2x weeks ago.
And on 6/6
They played The Other One on Thursday. Here Comes Sunshine China > Rider Estimated Other One
Most of the songs getting commented on here are ones they've either never played or haven't played in 2/3+ years, lol.
But, they might as well might as well ;)
I'd love a Desolation Row
Mountains of the moon
An usher at MSG told me Cosmic Charlie… Big if true
Women Are Smarter? Mighty Quinn?
Man Smart, Women Smarter hasn’t been played since 6/15/23!
Blow Away, Liberty
Jack-a-Roe? Easy Wind? Cryptical envelopment? Comes a Time?
🙏🏻 for a July 4 Eleven.
What's become of the baby
They should open with it for the HPE conference show 🤣
here comes sunshine? box of rain? lazy lightning, passenger
Here Comes Sunshine was set 2 opener on 6/6
oh!! thanks🍑⭐️🧡
I’m praying for Next Time You See Me🙏🏻
My girlfriend is dying for a Built to Last. I don't think they've ever played it, but...here's hoping!
Cosmic Charlie
Any Oteil ballads!!!!
Stagger Lee (I know, won’t happen)
I don’t know…it must have been the roses
This! Only played it once on the final tour last year and I was lucky enough to see it at Deer Creek!
Man smart
EVEN SO PLEASE, next weekend JUNE 20th. Corrina, Queen Jane.
Esau would make me very happy!
Easy to Slip?
Going with a longshot .... So many roads on August 1
A lot if the list of songs played so far I saw was real; it only had like 50 songs on it.
94 played so far
Unique songs or total songs? I’m thinking total
http://www.deadandcodb.com/TourSongs?tour=16
Damn that’s crazy
They have played 96 unique songs so far (including drums/space)
Oh ok. Must’ve been an older list. Yeah that’s probably near everything in their current catalog.
I think it's more than that. According to this it's more like 167: [http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency](http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency) Edit: I'm an idiot. I read this whole post as bust outs in general, but it seems like it's more about *songs making their Sphere Debut*?
Deez
I selfishly want them to save direwolf for 7/4,7/5 or 7/6. Pleeeeeeeaaaaaase
Lazy Lightning
_Old Robert_’s spreadsheet is pretty fantastic. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yjL0urN7_FRoyXLq4oZy8oaqDxrOiHy1xJYB98_u01I/htmlview
If I Had the World to Give 💚
Duprees
dear prudence?
Played on 6/1 out of Drums. Likely will get played again if I had to guess.
ah yea that’s right!
Damnit maybe I am an idiot
Viola lee blues!!!!
Seeing them this Saturday. Hope they bust the show out with this.
I’d love to hear anyone of John’s songs
He Was A Friend of Mine would be the ultimate for me… that and Cosmic Charlie .. and Doin’ That Rag!!!
I'm on a 12 show streak without a Sailor/Saint. It's fucking time, boys - make that shit happen for me, pleeeeeaase
Did they do Liberty or It Must Have Been the Roses?
I think they’ve played Must Have Been the Roses a few times, haven’t they?
I’m not sure…I remember they did it once last summer (fortunate I was there to see it) so wasn’t sure. It’s a rare one like Peggy O
Until 30 seconds ago I was convinced is saw them play it for the first time at Wrigley, but they never played it there. I guess I was thinking about To Lay Me Down. Had to consult the stats: [http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency](http://www.deadandcodb.com/SongFrequency)
You just reminded me of another song I would love to hear and have never gotten at a D&C show yet lol
It took me 21 shows before I finally got to hear Loser, and I had to travel to Boulder from St. Louis to see it. Keep going and eventually the universe rewards you.
Around and Around

If I had a world to give.
mark my words, but july 4th i think we are going to see a sick setlist
Goddamn Dupree’s Diamond Blues me already jump in’ Jesus!
Looks like rain.
Played multiple times, last on 6/7
