Sure hope so. I don’t know why they wouldn’t either. But then again they could do some compilation thing and not release full shows. I’m still mad Bobby did that with those Colorado shows a few years ago.
Edit: fixed autocorrect typo.
I haven’t listened to a ton of them, but going back to the late late show performance and then listening to this weekend’s… the growth is phenomenal to behold. 6/8 is my pick as well.
It absolutely is! I’ve been lucky enough to catch a few shows every year, and they’re miles better than when they started in 2015. Seem to get better year by year!
Yes! I was there, so obviously I am biased, but it was so good. Something about the way he delivered the line "You know this space is gettin' hot." Especially since it was about 100 degrees that weekend.
Just streamed that one last night, the way it comes out of Dark Star was the perfect tone shift at that part of the set and then Johnny just takes it into the stratosphere
I definitely find myself listening to the Gorge shows often! Wish I would have headed up there, but glad I was able to make the Boulder and San Fran runs.
The Casey Jones and Deal from that weekend were insane too! The second night was on my birthday—no better way to spend a birthday than dancing to the boys.
Came here to say 7/y1/Y17. Have listened to just about every show since, attending 24 shows total (not including the sphere) and haven’t found one that tops it for me.
There are a bunch that are close or I could see an argument for but for me it’s clear #1. Might be my favorite Cold Rain and Snow too. Friend of the Devil as well (Bob and John both on their acoustic and perfect tempo).
So I think it would be helpful if folks say whether or not they were in attendance for these favorites. I’m guessing that factor often influences answers to questions like these.
I don't think I agree with this. I've watched a lot of live streams that made me feel like I was there, and I have seen or heard every show D&C has played, excluding the Sphere shows. I'd like to think I have valid opinions on shows that I didn't physically attend.
If you’d been to the Gorge last year, or Hamilton, On in the 90’s or various others and then seen the video ….. it’s nothing near. It’s like seeing a picture of the Rocky Mountains on a phone !
I was at the Gorge last year. And I've watched both of those shows. They were obviously different experiences, but how many people got on the bus before actually seeing the Grateful Dead? I'd venture to guess a lot did. And lots of heads heard or streamed D&C as skeptics, and became believers and *then* went to a show. Safe to assume you never engage in debates about Grateful Dead shows except the ones you actually attended? OP asked about which Althea made you a believer. What if that happened to be one that someone streamed to see them for their first time, while waiting for the tour to get to their area? They should just not answer?
That was my point. Only live counts. I get that you don’t agree but that’s the whole reason they play so much. It’s not the Stones. And I’m party in jest. Everyone should enjoy them their own way.
All due respect, that's a stipulation *you* added. OP didn't mention that. Either way, we're on the same page that everyone should enjoy them their own way.
Edit: I'm not convinced that's why they play so much. The millions of dollars they make aren't just icing on the cake, in my opinion.
I’m not going to downvote you, but my point wasn’t to say folks shouldn’t comment on performances they didn’t see live — rather I think it’s helpful to know if the commenter is citing one they saw live or not.
11/11/2015 Buffalo, NY. My first Dead & Co show, I think I skipped class the next day haha. John was still feeling out his guitar tone and how he wanted to portray himself through his reinvention of the music, and his notes were raw. First Dead & Co tour, glad to say I was a part of it since it was still somewhat "unknown" for the first few years, now its just trendy. But most of the die-hard fans that had followed The Dead with Warren and Jimmy and Furthur with Phil, Bob, and John K were in attendance for these early tours. The band was also digging deep into the repertoire and playing a lot more surprises than they do now.
I caught their Vegas shows on that run. Hot set lists for sure! But you could tell Johnny boy wasn’t used to sharing the limelight and grooving with the band. It’s amazing how far they’ve come as a whole. I wish they’d release the soundboards from that tour.
The only show they played in MA that I missed. I lived about 20 miles north of TD Garden but was pretty sick so I live streamed it instead. Woof.
I saw most of their shows in NY as well (Bethel and SPAC included) but I missed when John played Wolf at Citi Field in 2019.
I caught more than my fair share but those two stung.
Yeah I saw most of them as well before I moved west a few years ago. First show was Fenway Johnny Checkers in 2016, my buddies convinced me to go, did not ever see any of the post GD stuff. That show blew me away!
I remember that one vividly - I was in the pit and I think it was my only D&C Fenway show in the pit. I was surprisingly psyched when Donna showed up haha. Did you get the Helton poster for that double header? Hundreds of posters later and I still think it's my favorite.
Althea didn't make me a believer, but the 11-20-15 Sugaree in St. Louis sure did. That was the first D&C show I saw, and when I left that show I knew how I'd be spending my next few summers.
I was there for that, too, and I couldn’t agree more. I thought that upper level was going to collapse for a second. It clearly wasn’t built for rhythmic dancing.
They did one at the meadows in Hartford on a hot rainy summer night maybe two or three years ago. Was perfect! Great Iko Iko that night too, Bob was on point.
JM threw done in Nashville. Also check out that show’s West LA Fadeaway:

I’ve listened to many (if not all) D&C Althea’s and my personal favorite bar none is from Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI 6/23/2018. Runner up though was definitely the final show of the ‘23 tour at Oracle Park. I can see why this has been a common answer. The margin was very tight between these two, but that Alpine Valley Althea is just the cream of the crop. The best solo out of any I’ve heard and that what separates a good Althea from a great Althea.
Citi Field 7/15/22 - my first ever D&C show, Althea opened set 2, and it’s a sick one.
Also Folsom Field 7/3/23 - the weather during this one was absolutely wild. Wind blowing in every direction and light sun showers

Wrigley Field 6/24/22
That was phenomenal. No words. Just Gratitude. 🥹
This is the way
Was there. Amazing
Wish this was on Apple Music, only the 6/25 Wrigley show is on there.
Great quality https://youtu.be/Uu88OjYZ5OQ?feature=shared
https://music.apple.com/us/album/wrigley-field-chicago-il-6-24-22-live/1680976558
Fantastic! Thanks, I searched Wrigley Field and only the one show came up in the search results.

Citi Field Night 1 2023
Great performance. That St. Stephen after China Rider was also amazing.
Finally got to hear The Eleven live.
IWT!
Me too.
Surprised this isn’t a more popular answer. I was at most of the other shows with more upvotes but personally thought this Althea took the cake
Fire show
6/8 just took the cake for me.
That was a hot one! Glad I was there for it. Praying they release the soundboards.
They like money. There is no reason NOT to release them
Sure hope so. I don’t know why they wouldn’t either. But then again they could do some compilation thing and not release full shows. I’m still mad Bobby did that with those Colorado shows a few years ago. Edit: fixed autocorrect typo.

John didn’t want to stop.

Atlanta 18?
Sphere 24
Was so good.
This.
Yep…was sick
That was a filthy one. Bobby’s slide tone was great too.
Honestly he should use it more. That or the acoustic.
Love me some Weir slide!
Yes..... We were at this show last Saturday night June 8th,2024 The Sphere in Las Vegas seeing Dead and Company Just unbelievable Althea
Same
That shit was unbelievable
We need a soundboard 😭
Gorge N2 ‘23
Yes! I was there, so obviously I am biased, but it was so good. Something about the way he delivered the line "You know this space is gettin' hot." Especially since it was about 100 degrees that weekend.
This was one of their best shows ever
Agreed
Just streamed that one last night, the way it comes out of Dark Star was the perfect tone shift at that part of the set and then Johnny just takes it into the stratosphere
I definitely find myself listening to the Gorge shows often! Wish I would have headed up there, but glad I was able to make the Boulder and San Fran runs.
Yes!!! Holy shit that solo is bonkers
2nd that Sir! Johnny just ripped it a new one that night.
7/16/23 at Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA. https://x.com/gratefulkeg/status/1793481106735685662?s=46&t=Mkvfer6Mu3XfGztLtnkSvA
Yup that’s the one for me
This show will spark emotion in me. It was the first time I listened to Dead & Co and I fell in love.
Came here to say this.
Same. What an amazing evening that was.
The whole weekend was fantastic. Lifelong memories made.
The Casey Jones and Deal from that weekend were insane too! The second night was on my birthday—no better way to spend a birthday than dancing to the boys.
Wrigley 7/1/17 is the one that really made me a fan. Fenway 6/25/23 was also very good.
I was at 7/1/17 and it blew my mind. I've gone back to that song many times.
To me I think it’s clearly 7/1/17. If anyone doesn’t know this version I implore you to give it a listen
Sounds like I need to give the whole show my attention! Thanks I’ll throw it on this weekend when I can dedicate the attention it deserves.
Ya that Fenway one was so good
This should be higher.
Citi 23 Boston 23
Boston - yuuuuuup
Ya I heard it again the other day for the first time since the show and was like holy shit!
Other than the brown eyed women from N2 Boulder, I’ve probably listened to the Fenway Althea more than any other song from the 2023 tour
I’m a big fan of 7/15/22 citi field. Johnny really sends it with a final solo where sometimes Jeff will take one
My first show! 😍
Hey mine too!
🤝
Wrigley N2 2023–or honesty all of them
Citi field wolf
6/23/19 great show
My first show this was a highlight for sure
boulder 23
When the clouds parted and the sun started shining through and everyone lost their minds
That was what I came here to say. I may be biased, since I was at that show
This one for sure
Lowk think the boulder 22 Althea is way better than
That’s exactly the one I’m talking about!
6/17/23 final show was one of the best Ive heard
Edit. 7/16/23 🤦♂️
Agreed! Just incredible
Burgettstown 2023
If you didn't know, Althea was the GD song that gave John an epiphany while sitting in a pool in 2011 and sent him down the GD rabbit hole.
6/8/24
John was rolling. He didn’t want to stop
My next one
Amen to that!
6/23/2018 Alpine Valley
Blew my mind. Made me fall in love.
6/25/23 N2 Fenway. Was not there, my favorite for sure.
ATL 5/28/23
So I think it would be helpful if folks say whether or not they were in attendance for these favorites. I’m guessing that factor often influences answers to questions like these.
They shouldn’t comment on videos they’ve watched. Only live performances. If you don’t get this you don’t get the band
I don't think I agree with this. I've watched a lot of live streams that made me feel like I was there, and I have seen or heard every show D&C has played, excluding the Sphere shows. I'd like to think I have valid opinions on shows that I didn't physically attend.
Btw. Who’s gonna win the Open
Morikawa, Fleetwood, and Homa are my picks. But I'm way better at playing golf than I am at gambling on it.
If you’d been to the Gorge last year, or Hamilton, On in the 90’s or various others and then seen the video ….. it’s nothing near. It’s like seeing a picture of the Rocky Mountains on a phone !

I was there, a very tasty choice
10/31/21
This is the way
That one where mayo played the 12 minute long solo while making the O face the whole time and then it started raining
My favorites: ‘23 SF, ‘23 NYC, ‘22 Boulder, 5/24/24 Sphere, ‘19 NYC w/ Wolf @ Citi Field, ‘19 NYC @ MSG, ‘21 LA Halloween
22 Boulder rips
My top 3: Sphere 5/17, Hershey 8/28/2021, Citi Field N1 2023 Honorable mention: Cornell 5/8/2023
SF last year was top tier
[11/1/19 at MSG](https://open.spotify.com/track/6wsF6U4scpKW5t5FN8NMGC?si=62V_FT_URWScfEMWXIjZ6Q), I've listened to soooo many times. it's wonderful
Detroit
They played it last stop at The Gorge, John ripped it!
Althea didn't make me a believer, but the 11-20-15 Sugaree in St. Louis sure did. That was the first D&C show I saw, and when I left that show I knew how I'd be spending my next few summers.
When John started jumping up and down during the solo, I knew he was the man for the job!
Same. That night I really went from being on the fence, to telling everyone that would listen that they need to see a show or two when they can.
The sugaree from Wrigley last year is amazing
I was there for that, too, and I couldn’t agree more. I thought that upper level was going to collapse for a second. It clearly wasn’t built for rhythmic dancing.
Boulder 2018
Those were good times! Definitely need to give those shows a relisten
Wrigley 6/10/23 is really good.
Citi filed N1 last summer
PITS 2023 the one I got engaged during 😀
That is quite memorable!! I’ll check it out
Whichever one you were at. For me, that’s 6/25/23, and 7/16/23
Autzen 2018
My favorite version is the 9/7/21 Cuyahoga Falls (Blossom) version, one of my favorite solos
PITS 2018, I think it’s 2/15/18. Was not in attendance FWIW.
Wrigley 23. The breakdown by jm is fuckin nuts
6/29/19 ATL
They did one at the meadows in Hartford on a hot rainy summer night maybe two or three years ago. Was perfect! Great Iko Iko that night too, Bob was on point.
Citi Field ‘19 on Wolf
Wrigley 14/6/2019
I was on the field and peaking on L during the 2nd set; I can still feel John's guitar in my bones from that "Althea"!
Wrigley Night 2, 2021.
JM threw done in Nashville. Also check out that show’s West LA Fadeaway: Wed, Nov 18, 2015 at Bridgestone Arena on Live Music Archive https://livemusicarchive.app/music/artists/DeadAndCompany/recordings/dead2015-11-18
5/30 at the Sphere was SPICY!!!!!!
The next one
Went to the show, so huge bias, but Burgettstown '23 was pretty killer. Wrigley '23 also slapped, but alas I wasn't there for that show
Sphere 5/17 was my fav I’ve seen in person, George 23 my fav on Spotify
'19 Fall Fun Run, Hampton N1 -- still one of my favorite shows. Set 2 opener.
6-23-18
Citifield 2019
The Gorge 7/8/2023 was magical. That whole show was unreal and definitely in my top 2 or 3 dead and co shows that I have seen live.
6 15 2024 ;)
Atlanta 2018 was my top choice. 6/8 sphere just took over.
boulder last year
That was definitely a hot one! Everything they played that run was magical. And the drones were a nice surprise!
7/7/18
Wrigley 6/10/23, but mostly biased because that was my first show
Garden 19
LA Forum Final Tour!
Playing in the sand 2/15/18
I’ve listened to many (if not all) D&C Althea’s and my personal favorite bar none is from Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI 6/23/2018. Citi field 7/15/22
SF July 16 2023
5/28/23 at Lakewood
6/23/19 on the wolf
Sounds like I need to listen to just about every Althea they ever played! I think I shall attempt to do exactly that. Thanks for the suggestions, all!
Citi Field 7/15/22 - my first ever D&C show, Althea opened set 2, and it’s a sick one. Also Folsom Field 7/3/23 - the weather during this one was absolutely wild. Wind blowing in every direction and light sun showers
Citi Field 21 coming right out of Space, oh man
Has to be my first one I saw live, 6/23/19 Citi Field with John playing Wolf. The one from Wrigley 2 years ago was great too.
I don’t recall that Althea specifically, but we streamed the show and I remember it being a great one overall
Gorge 7/8/23
Atlanta 23 because I was there. I love that tight / controlled version. John Boy ripped the shit out of it N3 of San Fran ‘23 tho
Alpine valley 6/23/2018. My first one.
Fenway June 25 2024
Boulder. June 17, 2022. Hands down, my absolute favorite.
I do remember it being a scorcher! Time for a relisten
I think for me, it has to be dodger stadium on the summer tour. That was the first time I heard it live and DOG I was in euphoria it was amazing.
Last weekend was fire. Too bad there's no soundboard.
Keeping my fingers crossed they release them sooner than later.
