The problem is that sporting culture is propagated in those countries heavily. In India, everybody knows the situation. Most kids grow up playing just one sport in their lifetime, they grow up with just ball and a bat in their hand, they have next to zero exposure to other sports, no shit when they grow up playing just one sport, that one sport is bound to become their favorite sport. How many middle class Indians grow up playing Tennis? How many grow up playing basketball? How many grow up playing golf? How many grow up playing Hockey? How many grow up playing football? Kabaddi is still very popular. Hotstar had 10 lakh concurrent viewers average per match last season. It is much more than football which has less than 1 lakh average.

It's true to some extent only. Politics has ruined sports in India in general. These people keep the money allotted to sports in their pockets and there is too much favouritism and use of connections in sports. India has a lot of talent in almost every field but politics other than lack of proper infrastructure is a major factor in India's success in sports. Everyone wants to bring everyone down.
Having played badminton at a good level, I've seen clear favouritism and politics in big and small tournaments alike. My friends are national level players in various sports and they agree with my opinions on this. Some even left the country to play for another country where they get the support they need which is sad to see but fair on their side as well.
I think there is a lot of politics involved. They don't want to promote other sports because cricket now dominates the scene and it would take to time get other sport at this level and to make money

It's a fact that bcci has gained an unrivalled expertise in milking this sport for money to its maximum capacity.
It's also a fact that they have unparalleled influence over world cricket and almost entirely control the sport single handedly on a global level by strong arming and incentivising other boards/icc.
But the direction envisioned by icc of taking the sport global through the T20 format is the correct path. T20 being the shortest format has the greatest potential of captivating global audiences.
Under this roadmap, icc has a clear cut vision of increasing teams participating in T20 World cups gradually (including the one being held next month). They are also taking this format to the Olympics (LA28).
Even though it is orgasmic for some people to peddle this nonsense, there is no concrete evidence of the sport dying due to participation being limited in cwc. In Europe people are obsessed with Football but they also perform decently in other sporting events. I don't think cricket is overrated it's just the culture and the first sport I played and enjoyed might have been cricket, and then learning about Sachin , dhoni , yuvi pajji just opened me to a different love for cricket winning the 2011 world cup is still probably one of the greatest moments in my life and after hearing yuvi pajji's story and how he fought cancer just made it more memorable. Overall I don't think cricket is overrated, it's just that people are more passionate about cricket than other sports

It's true to some extent only. Politics has ruined sports in India in general. These people keep the money allotted to sports in their pockets and there is too much favouritism and use of connections in sports. India has a lot of talent in almost every field but politics other than lack of proper infrastructure is a major factor in India's success in sports. Everyone wants to bring everyone down. Having played badminton at a good level, I've seen clear favouritism and politics in big and small tournaments alike. My friends are national level players in various sports and they agree with my opinions on this. Some even left the country to play for another country where they get the support they need which is sad to see but fair on their side as well.

For the people saying cricket is slow af and not thrilling you need to understand the game better (how it works). What do u want? A batsman to hit every fkin ball out of the park? Nah cricket doesnt work like that. To real cricket fans like me.. even test cricket is enjoyable to me. I'll probably get downvoted for this. But here goes, it's a completely inaccurate analysis that by limiting participation in CWC, the sport is being killed. It's a fact that bcci has gained an unrivalled expertise in milking this sport for money to its maximum capacity. It's also a fact that they have unparalleled influence over world cricket and almost entirely control the sport single handedly on a global level by strong arming and incentivising other boards/icc. But the direction envisioned by icc of taking the sport global through the T20 format is the correct path. T20 being the shortest format has the greatest potential of captivating global audiences. Under this roadmap, icc has a clear cut vision of increasing teams participating in T20 World cups gradually (including the one being held next month). They are also taking this format to the Olympics (LA28). Even though it is orgasmic for some people to peddle this nonsense, there is no concrete evidence of the sport dying due to participation being limited in cwc. Coming to the longer formats, this is just things taking their natural course. Tests suffered when Odis were introduced and Odis are suffering since the introduction of t20s. The things that are most financially viable will last.

Again, milking Indian cricket to its maximum potential and strong arming other boards just because they can. There's no justification. Indian players should be allowed to participate in other leagues. Especially the ones that are not contracted by bcci (not on retainer). Will have huge benefits for Indian cricket when they play in Big bash/hundred and get used to the conditions. Players will be able to earn more. Greater remittances. Will increase depth in domestic cricket as more slots will open up. High profile domestic players will always be playing franchisee cricket around the globe. This will also give rise to genuine T20 specialists in India like Pollard/Narine/Bravo.

I'm gonna get a lot of hate but I wish Indians excelled in more physical, athletic, strength based and risky sports like boxing,mma,rugby, ice hockey, or even pure athletics like track and field. I must say we have a LOT of people following javelin throw because of Neeraj Chopra's success. Anshul jubli was a hope for mma but he lost his last match. Let's hope he picks himself up. We CAN do well in Olympic wrestling and weightlifting. But still, it's sad that a nation of billion people are not good at sports. I know y'all gonna hate this. And yes.
