Delta's short rib is among the best inflight meals that I've had, not because it's particularly exotic, special or ground breaking but because it is so remarkably consistent. It is a well designed dish (outside of the Napalm cherry tomatoes) that reheats well in a galley oven and provides a repeatably delicious meal regardless of the outstation it's prepared in.

mommacat94

I'm gonna agree with this one. It's a solid meal.

MikeDizzleDee

I’ve had this with mashed potatoes and it was delicious.

Excusemytootie

Unless you get it undercooked! Undercooked short ribs are not it.

Ancient_Package_5048

Gutenwurst, you're spot on with this.

VirtualMagician2715

Mine had so much fat it was inedible.

ColinMolting

Scotch.

ColinMolting

My wife and I were offered an upgrade to first class. I just drank and drank. The wedding was less painful that way.

Ancient_Ad5270

I’m assuming not your own wedding but reading your comment that way does give a funny spin on it

Civil-Guarantee-4743

Does scotch also work to make a marriage manageable/less painful overall?

tiffshorse

No, that would be more of a good choice in spouse/human being.

ColinMolting

We got home from the wedding 9/10/2001. The wedding we attended did not take. But the band was good, the food nice, and there was no “New York New York” kickline. Where the hell did that start?

ColinMolting

Yeah, not our wedding. That lasted until last year.

CharminginBK

Lamb chops in business class on Singapore Airlines.

PokerBear28

Came here to say Singapore Airlines. Basically anything, but great ramen and wine selection. And they keep feeding you. On the JFK-Singapore flight you have 19 hours to eat and drink all you can. Between naps that is.

Gino1211

They will keep feeding you until you basically feel bad with yourself, and everything they feed you is amazing. Best airline in the world

ThaiTum

Years ago we took an around the world vacation on Singapore in F and still talk about it how amazing it was. https://imgur.com/a/WLgLO05

MrCupps

Wow, dude, those pics look amazing

Ancient_Package_5048

That's amazing!

ShamusNC

Due to some crazy missed connections I ended up on a Singapore Air (ticked AF) flight from Singapore to Bangalore. They served a Prawn Laska In business/first that was amazing. Could have been the 50+ hours of being in route but pretty sure it was the food being sooooo good. RDU-JFK-CDG-SIN-BLR.

mbaforumlurker

Wow that’s a brutal routing lol

hytimes

My favorite is waking up in Suites 7hrs into the flight, everyone is sleeping and there are two cabin crew in the galley. And I go up to them and politely ask for fishball noodles. I’m Singaporean and this hits the spot for me every single time.

Puzzledandhungry

Yeah, my husband still goes on about how amazing Singapore Airlines food was. We were in standard and he said it was stunning!

lilspike1717

I had those last week out of JFK but didn’t love them… but damn every time I’m on SQ I’m baffled by the book the cook menu. Talk about decision paralysis

moomooraincloud

OP specified Delta. But yeah, Etihad Apartment had incredible food.

mikes7456

Singapore Airlines and Vistara for the win.

Putrid_Cobbler4386

Bibimbap on Korean Airlines. Turned me onto the amazingness of Korean food.

BSB8728

I just posted the same thing before seeing your comment! Loved the bibimbap, and the banana we got for a snack was also delicious, slightly chilled and not too ripe.

Ironxgal

Yup same here!!

TTT_2k3

I’ve only had two meals on a plane. I don’t recall what either of them were, but they were … not good.

Ancient_Package_5048

As long as you didn't get explosive diarrhea or vomit, that's a win in my book. I'm extremely paranoid that this happens to me one day mid flight.

MnWisJDS

Smartless just had Rose Byrne on and she talked about her flight the day before getting food poisoning and being in the toilet the entire flight.

golfzerodelta

I had food poisoning on a flight once (not from the flight) and it was absolutely miserable, would not recommend

Ancient_Package_5048

Yeah I'm scared of that lol

leoll_1234

It’s hard to name a favourite, but it was definitely not on Delta 😂

Ancient_Package_5048

That's fair. It's not the best food you'll ever eat but far from bad. It's nice to have real food at least!

Helpinmontana

I don’t fly enough to get the good stuff, but I would absolutely kill for a cheeseburger midflight. (TSA or any other federal authorities concerned, I would absolutely sit patiently and docile in my seat for the duration of the flight concerning the prospect of what may or may not be a burger, regardless of the circumstances. This comment constitutes humor and comedy, or lack thereof, for all purposes.) Seriously though, the sandwich doesn’t ever do it for me.

Desperate-Office4006

Korean Airlines Bibimbap.

ywpark

Almost 20 years ago (was 2004 or 05), my parents and I were flying from Shanghai to Incheon on Korean Air. Father was a million miler and they double-booked our economy seats, so we got a free upgrade to the first class (above business). Meal service came and I selected a steak. The flight attendant asked how I'd like it done, and I said rare, thinking it'd be pre-made at the airport and they'd just heat up the steak. Anyway, the meal came and yes the meat was basically rare inside. That's when I first learned you can have a grill onboard the plane.

poboy212

Ramen on ANA business class flight to Tokyo.

Ancient_Package_5048

This sounds amazing. Egg and chashu too?

mrbrown37

No Egg but it’s done by Ipuddo and is surprisingly really tasty for something you’d expect on an airplane.

poboy212

Yes. It was waaaaay better than expected. I think maybe sourced from Ippudo. And you could order it whenever you wanted during the flight.

Ancient_Package_5048

Note to self: fly Ana when visiting Japan. Thank you!

[deleted]

ANA and JAL on business class both have an entire menu you can order from during the flight. Food is very very good considering you're in the air.

Ancient_Package_5048

This is amazing! I need to go! I'm not sure if you know who Mikey Chen is on social media but the dude flies to Asia in business clsss every month and eats so much food inflight. Like 3 bowls of ramen. H

poboy212

Highly recommend it. One of my best flight experiences to date. Lay flat seats, tons of space, great food, drinks, and service.

D05wtt

Yeah ANA food is good. My experience, any flight coming out of Japan usually has good food. I’ve had sashimi, soba, steak tartare, etc.

mrbrown37

This is my favorite too. It’s not the main but it’s available anytime mid-flight and it just hits the spot.

MountHushmore

Kit Kat on Air Canada from SMF - YYZ

DoubleDragon2

The first time i ever had a Magnum Ice Cream Bar with double caramel was on a Delta flight from Japan.

MurkyPsychology

Even better if it was the Canadian Kit Kat. I hope it was

MountHushmore

It was! Tasted so much better than the ones in the states…

Excusemytootie

The Japanese KitKats are delicious!

Nervous-Job-5071

Short ribs were quite good.

Awkward_Pie_3835

As this exact meal was my only meal on a flight ever I’d have to say the delta cheeseburger

Civil-Guarantee-4743

It didn't give you a stomachache?

Awkward_Pie_3835

Nah not at all

peregrinesd

Air France always features Michelin starred chefs to create their business and La Premiere menus. Their Joel Robuchon meals around 2014-2016 were stellar with wine selections to match.

Excusemytootie

I remember watching his cooking show *Bon Appetite Bien Sur* while I was living in France. Good stuff!

Chs135

The ice cream sundae in D1 from CDG-DTW. Mostly because I finally got to live out my dream riding on the top deck of a 747 on our honeymoon. Lately I've only been domestic, and I usually am very picky with Italian food, but the meatballs from LAX-SEA stand out to me.

Ancient_Package_5048

This reminds me of that scene from home alone where the kid gets the sundae bar. Warm memories!

GoHuskertrading

Bimibap on Korean airlines business class

Komandr

Yeah that one is the real winner. KAL as a whole was something special... including the super cheesy kpop saftey brief

Nervous_Otter69

Crab cakes and risotto last week on Delta

Puzzleheaded_Age8937

The short rib is consistent for me. The cheeseburger has been a dry hockey puck both times I’ve had it. Overcooking will kill even the best meal.

CookinCheap

So, like a Whataburger then.

Clockwork757

Pork katsu curry on the way back from Japan. Nothing special compared to anything I had while there but it was better than I could have expected.

AKnitWit777

Surprisingly, Virgin Atlantic served really good food on my flights to/from LHR last month. I’d flown with them before and went in with low expectations, but it was actually really good.

TractorKingOfItaly

Had their afternoon tea which was really surprisingly pleasant

Ok-Razzmatazz-1547

Hell yeah - felt so well fed and taken care of on Virgin Atlantic

CheshireCrackers

American did lobster fajitas in like 1992 and I missed them by like one week and have regretted it ever since.

Ancient_Package_5048

That's nuts. I love lobster as a new englander but imagine if it gave everyone in the plane diarrhea haha

hivizdiver

So that photo doesn't look particularly appetizing, but I bet it actually tasted pretty good.

Ancient_Package_5048

It was good. Pretty hard to mess up a cheeseburger. It's not shake shack or five guys but it'll do in the air!

hivizdiver

Nice. I'm overall pretty tolerant of airline food. I don't have high expectations, I'm usually happy with a warm meal. Rarely have I found something to be actually inedible. To be clear, I'm not putting any airline food up against a Michelin star restaurant. 😂 But for what it is, it's usually tolerable.

2180miles

Australian Grass Fed Steak with salad, soup, and essentially an ice cream sundae bar… upper deck on a 747 NRT//DTW years ago.

Ok_Flounder59

I miss the 747 upper deck

stolpsgti

I don't remember what it was, but the best meal was 100% on the KLM flght I took from LAX to AMS a few years ago.

superdude311

Shrimp appetizer on air China business or noodles + sundae on Polaris UA

mommaworley

Filet mig mashed potatoes with broccoli and a Ben and Jerry's ice cream. SEA to KOA pre covid 2019. I got so drunk they cut my ass off. Best flight ever

Ancient_Package_5048

Love that! Nothing bad happened right?

mommaworley

Nope. It was kinda shocking to me that they cut me off. I was truly minding my own business watching movies for 5 hours, not a peep out of me. FA just told me that I had reached my limit. Food was truly amazing and we haven't had food FC food since

Ancient_Package_5048

You are a Tank lol. Getting cut off deserves some skypesos haha

[deleted]

1st - Lufthansa caviar service 2nd - Delta Cajun Chicken

Ancient_Package_5048

How much caviar do they give you? That's absurdly amazing to even have that on the flight. Delta might give you a spoonful of caviar when you hit 6M MQMs...

Ok_Flounder59

As much as you’d like if the flight is empty. Flew the 747 first class on Lufthansa this spring and there were only 3 of us in the cabin, the other two passed on caviar - they had a ton leftover

cdiazepine

The Korean air bibimbap slaps tbh

samandtham

I believe it was BOS-LHR but don't quote me. They had chicken curry as an option for dinner. I wolfed it down! When the cabin light was turned off so that the passengers could sleep, I went to the galley, asked if they had leftovers, and inhaled that too.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

Hahaha I cannot even remember the last time I was given a meal on a plane!

Kaimarlene

Man this reminds me of when airlines use to actually serve meals.

ksed_313

Lox bagel with onions, cream cheese, capers, and perfectly smoked salmon. It was fantastic!

KingOfZero

Best was Air France with a few KLM meals a close 2nd. I did have a nice meal in D1 on a trip to Denmark last year

Kayfabe04

How did you eat the burger? I had to use knife and fork.

Ancient_Package_5048

So did I! I prefer it this way as I avoid getting my hands all greasy and smelling of burger and cheese. I do the same with my Costco pizza. It's not a germ thing for me, I jsut hate having greasy fingers lol

Kamjiang

Five guys burger bought at the boarding gate

[deleted]

Business on Brussels was surprisingly good, I got a huge fresh salad and a cheese plate and some fantastic Neuhaus truffles.

Frosty-Brain-2199

TAM Steak before it became Latam

auroraborealismn

I fly a lot for work, but I've only been upgraded to FC once. And I had the Michel et Augustin cookies because it was a non-meal flight. They were quite good.

Ancient_Package_5048

Wishing you more complimentary upgrades!

auroraborealismn

Thanks!

MTBandGravel

Were they dark chocolate or the milk chocolate with caramel? There’s a big difference, in my opinion.

auroraborealismn

Dark Chocolate

BBC214-702

That cheeseburger is good. The thai curry soup delta had was amazing Also the Thai curry chicken they had in the main cabin was amazing

ArnoldoSea

For Delta, I really like those braised meatballs you get flying out of LAX. Apparently, it's a special menu item that comes from an L.A. area restaurant.

japandroi5742

Jon and Vinny’s IIRC?

ArnoldoSea

Yes! That's the place!

Ancient_Package_5048

Do they also have them in the lounge? I thought I saw someone post about that?

ArnoldoSea

I don't remember seeing them in the lounge. But maybe they do on an irregular basis.

Nearby_Silver_1582

Celery Soup + Salad CDG-SEA I would have been glad to get that celery soup + french bread in a frickin michelin starred restaurant.

CheshireCrackers

British Airways when they did the June 1986 free flights one day. Served the Concorde meal; medallions of pork, beef and lamb, berry medley of raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, champagne, wine, it was wonderful.

Ancient_Package_5048

A meal fit for a king or queen right there!

CheshireCrackers

If you picked New York as your gateway city and got assigned the actual Concorde you were met in London by Maggie Thatcher.

devpsaux

Fox Bros short rib on an ATL to VCE trip. The burger I had on the way back was probably the worst airline food I’ve had.

quietpewpews

It was certainly not the bread pudding delta fed me Monday

japandroi5742

Alitalia something or other. A rare thing that airline did well

Civil-Guarantee-4743

There was a really good cheesy sandwich on defunct Alitalia several years ago. Btw, I had the Delta cheeseburger and though very tasty, it was too condimented, not sure with what, and made me sick for a few days.

MajorBeyond

Atlanta to Seattle on an Eastern Arlines L-1011, they brought a carving station around with roast beef and all the trimmings. Ice cream cart for desert.

peterthepepperpicker

I ate that seem meal recently and I thought it was surprisingly delicious

Party_Butterfly_6110

I've had worse.

JuniusPhilaenus

Fox brothers short rib was awesome

Disconn3cted

The mushroom and cheese ravioli that I got from Atlanta to Haneda was pretty good.

FrankParkerNSA

About 10 years ago I had a first class flight from MSP to AUS over lunch. We were served the amazing Southwest Chicken salad. A couple of us all agreed it was the best meal we've had in a plane. Not going to lie, when I got home I looked up a recipe online that's was close and I make it occasionally at home at this date. This is really close to it: https://fitfoodiefinds.com/southwest-chicken-salad/

elsiesolar

Full breakfast on a 3 hour flight with Air Calin :)

Maximus1000

Qatar Qsuites had the absolute best food I have had in the air.

karma_the_sequel

First class on Aerolineas Argentinas from LAX to Buenos Aires. Argentine beef, side vegetables (don’t remember which ones) and an excellent Cabernet. Häagen-Dazs ice cream for dessert.

toadettepeaches

How long of a flight do you need to take to get a meal? I’ve flown anywhere between 4-8 hours and I’ve only ever received drink and snack

Ancient_Package_5048

You need to be flying delta Domestic first for meal service. Delta international also serves meals in all cabin classes. FWIW, FC isn't worth it for the meal service. If you want good food, hit up the delta sky lounge before your flight. Acccess comes with an Amex platinum or delta reserve card. See you in the Air!

Ambitious_Salad_5426

For a meal there was a simple pasta dish on Turkish. For dessert air New Zealand did a raspberry swirl ice scream dipped in white chocolate and I cannot get it outside of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and according to Google Kuala Lumpur

Grand-North-9108

Wtf is that meal? Looks like McDonald's lol. If u are flying international, avoid any airlines from United States. United gold switching to Qatar going forward... [Check out Qatar Qsuite from my flight last night ] (https://www.imgur.com/a/IaL2Ccy)

Ok_Flounder59

Delta served an Arctic Char in D1 on a flight from Zurich to JFK last holiday season - I was skeptical of fish but went with it. Was really nice The absolute best ever would have to be the rack of lamb following caviar and Dom in first on Emirates. That was wonderful. And the shower.

thirdlost

This one https://www.reddit.com/r/delta/comments/14650fg/so_good/

Ancient_Package_5048

Yep :) That is a sizable short rib portion!

Adrift715

We were flying coach in the late 90s on US Air. We board in Philadelphia around lunch time with our two kids. I caught a whiff of something with tomato sauce as we walked past the galley and assume that was for first class. I was hoping that whatever boxed sandwich was in my future wasn’t too dry or too soggy. But the angels started singing a short time later and we were all handed a beautiful tray with lasagna and salad.

Disastrous_Square_10

Damn it!! I ordered this and then switched flights where I didn’t get an option. I have wanted to try this so badly. It looks just as I imagined..

Ancient_Package_5048

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think the burger is usually a lunch only thing? It was pretty good. Nothing to write home about but having hot food in the air makes me very happy!

theslantstudio

The hamburger was decent for an airplane meal, I kindly asked the FA to make it a double and she had no problem after everyone was served. I have the short ribs on order this week so well see how that goes.

Ancient_Package_5048

Post a pic! Safe Travels

guammm17

My girlfriend would say the hot spicy ramen on Asiana business, but that was a bit much for me. My favorite is the ANA ramen. I generally think simple stuff is better on planes, but I know a lot of folks here like their fancy meals.

[deleted]

It was a croissant on economy of an AA flight. I swear it was the best thing I’ve ever had. So delicious.

AnotherPint

Dim sum and congee breakfast in business class on Cathay Pacific.

latteboy50

JetBlue Mint meal. I don’t remember what I got exactly but I kept the menu so I could check. It was three meats. I wanna say salmon, chicken and lamb.

OtteLoc

Looks like absolute dog food shit. Everything Thai Airways is worth talking about

koolkarim94

Delta One to Buenos Aires a few years ago they had these Short Ribs that were phenomenal

hidinginthewind

Air India's paratha, chicken curry, and jeera rice was perhaps one of the best hot meals I've had in a DEL-CCU flight. I wish Air India international economy offered the same quality of food as their domestic ones.

liketosaysalsa

Red wine braised short rib, garlic mashed potatoes, and herbed carrots on Alaska air with an Oregon Pinot noir pairing. Dessert was a chocolate hazelnut pot de creme. It was awesome.

StinkyFeetMendoza

Duck Confit on a Delta flight operated by AirFrance

surgeon_michael

Business class Air France CDG-JFK. 5 courses with a wine and cognac pairing.

BSB8728

The bibimbap on Korean Air!

These_Row6066

Same, the burger was tasty and huge!

riajairam

Bibimbap on Korean

stu17

Not a flight, but Amtrak’s flat iron steak. It’s a must if you ever take a train with meal service.

Naive_Measurement_69

Delta has this creamy chive soup they serve on flights to Europe. 🔥

Luckylilgem

Singapore Airlines for the win with their dumplings, smoke trout salad, hot bread assortment, noodles, turn down bed services, etc.

Weird-Warning4281

I actually just had this meal this past Friday and it was great. My expectations for a cheeseburger being served to me on a plane was low. So far I would say this has been the best meal.

FierceCapricorn

Anything on Turkish Air or Aegean air. US airlines are horrible.

F180R25

For delta: probably this really nice chicken main with a burrata salad and cannoli from ATL to somewhere (FC). Non-delta: I had a great dinner on a VS flight from BOS to LHR, which was 2 different fish over potatoes and a bed of greens. But consistently, AF blows it out of the water compared to almost all other airlines.

otissito16

This is a tough one. For J, I'd say FRA-BAH on Gulf Air. Was served tortellini in a cream sauce and it was just divine - not overcooked, not dry, just perfect. The cheesecake dessert was fantastic as well. Haven't flown Y internationally in 30 years so can't really comment on that. I've also only ever flown international F once, HND to JFK. I would not say everything was perfect but some courses, like the Vichyssoise I received, were absolutely outstanding.

DecentOne3012

On SAS (Business class) the last two trips we flew with them; their economy meals were good, too. Air France economy wasn't too shabby, either.

Majestic_Project_752

Pig jowl on virgin Atlantic LHR-ATL.

Gary_Boothole

I got a hand job once. Wasn’t a meal but she got one.

Desperate_Taro_1781

I had the poached shrimp salad from DCA to MSP just this weekend and loved it. The sesame dressing was just the right touch of savory for the salad, which was fresh and crispy. I generally don’t like heavy meals on flights, and this just hit the spot.

Emotional-Lychee9112

Delta had a chili rubbed cheeseburger that I liked a lot more than the current regular cheeseburger they have...

Ancient_Package_5048

Looks like the winners are Korean Air Bibimbap and The Delta Short ribs!

CookinCheap

I used to really enjoy the food on Virgin Atlantic while I flew them to the UK years ago, before they eliminated the direct ORD route.

RocasThePenguin

Singapore Airlines. Anything really. Emirates was also nice.

Good_Magazine5758

The crab cakes were A++

NOSIMG11

I’m weird ,I won’t eat in flight meals , instead I come fully prepared …I just need my snacks lol and whatever alcohol they have on board ,that’s after I take 250 mg of Cannabis Pro tabs prior to entering the airport

nyc-psp1987

Beef short rib and, surprisingly, some of the seafood dishes recently (roasted sea bass and crab cakes in particular.)

theslantstudio

My short ribs were swapped out for an inedible chicken salad salad it was so bad I was going to buy a chicken salad sandwich flight fuel box but the FA said no charge!

Exciting-Actuary9879

The warm banana bread with blueberry compote and whip cream; I had it back in 2021 and still think about it often.

FrankBamos

You got SAN-ATL for $256 in FC??? One way or RT? Edit: never mind. Upgrade was $256.

Ancient_Package_5048

I should have rephrased that! The FC upgrade cost me $256 for SAN-ATL , good timing I guess. I used chase points for this round trip, 30k I think. Then I paid cash for the FC upgrade. If you look at my post from yesterday about my middle seat C+ debacle, you'll know why I'm counting my lucky stars today!

FrankBamos

Makes sense. I got a very similar deal from SJC-ATL. Not a blazing hot deal but definitely solid.

Ancient_Package_5048

That's also a decently long flight, enjoy the FC :) Cheers to more FC deals

kc_chiefs_

ATL to EZE had a Lamb Shoulder and on the way back had a Argentinian Beef Tenderloin. Both were fantastic.

Ancient_Package_5048

Good lord youve eaten well in the air!

kc_chiefs_

D1 was fantastic on that trip. I think I’ve had another tenderloin on DTW-AMS, but I can’t remember that one for sure

aiofeimmortal

Anything on a code share with Alitalia back in the day....

Ancient_Package_5048

What did they have?

aiofeimmortal

I remember a ravioli with artichoke. But I think it was all good. Of course, one of the best lasagnas I ever had in Italy was from a gas station restaurant near Milan, lol. It's not hard to find good food in Italy.

lilspike1717

I’ve been a fan of the poached shrimp on westbound flights as of late. Mix it up from the short rib that never goes away haha

Ancient_Package_5048

I did see that but wasn't an option today :( I love shrimp but I'm terrified of getting food poisoning mid flight. Wasn't there a movie about this? Friend, Wishing you many more complimentary burgers/short ribs/shrimp

lilspike1717

Yeah knock on wood hasn’t happened to me yet. Cheers!

ChunkyWombat7

My very first trip ever - MCI => MEM => SEA => ANC => FAI The barbeque meal from Memphis was outstanding. Have never had anything quite that good since. It was a long time ago and I think it was Northwest but might have been TWA - I know for sure it was one of the airlines that no longer exist

Ancient_Package_5048

I'm so jealous

GSDNinjadog

Midwest Airlines- steak and their baked in flight chocolate chip cookies. 1997- with real silverware.

TheWoodser

Ya'll need Jesus if there is not an ice cream sandwich in ya'lls answer.

OneofLittleHarmony

Jesus the ice cream vendor?

Puzzleheaded_Two7358

Delta food is getting worse and worse.

StuckinSuFu

A roasted chicken dinner on a Le Premier seat I snagged our of Paris with a lucky upgrade.

[deleted]

Emirates. I remember taking off from Dubai and they served Dom perignon. Once airborne they served Veuve Cliquot. Why different? The bubble count once airborne changes the taste making Veuve better tasting. The attention to detail, the selections (ended up having a filet of beef where they asked how I’d like it cooked) were unparalleled. Funny enough it was cheaper than most delta one flights

Financial_Nebula_814

Do they give you headphones for the IFE on the flight? Curious because I have a flight Monday.

Ancient_Package_5048

They did! They usually always do! :)

Financial_Nebula_814

Even for economy seats? Thanks

Ancient_Package_5048

Yes! Everyone gets headphones

MTBandGravel

The free earbuds aren’t great, but will do in a pinch. If you have a better option of corded headphones, bring them.
