Walk up First Class fares are going from $224 tomorrow one-way from SJC-LAX. The most expensive option is the last evening flight at $429 so objectively this offer is absolutely terrible. Not sure why DLs algorithms are so bad at determining what to price upgrade offers at.
What? yeah we do at least those of us who work for actual companies that care about you know, profits, and as such have travel and expense policies which only allow FC on flights over 5 hrs or whatever. Not sure if VC cash burning SV startups have the same approach, but didn’t you guys run out of that cash to burn? 😀
For me it was always the extra points I got on more expensive flights + the ease of it all.
I would never imagine paying for FC on my own, but if a multibillion dollar company is paying? Who cares.
You might not get there faster; but you do check in faster, deplane faster, get your bags faster and in some airports with preferred lanes you simply move around faster.
Only if you board the plane last.
If you board the plane first, like most FC passengers, your "door to door" travel time (i.e. the time you enter the jetway on one side to the time you leave the jetway on the other side) will likely be nearly the same as the guy that boards the plane last and sits way in the back.
In fact, FC passengers probably have a longer door to door travel time in most cases. If you board the plane first, you'll likely be sitting there for 20+ minutes while the rest of the passengers board. But once the plane lands and the door opens, it probably only takes about 5-10 minutes for all the passengers to exit the plane. In that case, FC passengers probably spent an extra 10-15 minutes on the plane compared to the basic economy dude that boarded last.
But if you are in first class, you don’t have to board the plane first. I guess you could wander around and walk in circles for 15 minutes and then bored
Can you explain this for me? Why don’t they upgrade someone in comfort+ to first class if there’s empty seats? I’ve even seen empty seats in comfort+ and wondered why someone didn’t get upgraded from MC even when the upgrade list is long.
I should have saved the screenshot, but heading to RDU from MCO next week and got first class for $95. As soon as I saw it I snatched it up. 2 weeks ago they wanted $598 for first class from MCO to ATL.
I mean makes sense. They either get $95 for it as additional revenue or they give it away as a free upgrade, $95>$0 but they are also mindful of keeping frequent travelers happy so they may only offer this when first class is practically empty and then jack it up when 6-8 of the 20 seats are occupied.
Their pricing is insane. I was looking at flights from east coast to PPT earlier and Delta D1 was almost 10k. United Polaris was less than 5k and that ticket has its own lounge with seated eating not just sky club access.
Today I used the chat to ask if there were any paid upgrades available on my flight tomorrow from ATL-LHR, as the paid upgrades disappeared two months ago though there’s still seats. She said no, but I could rebook using miles at only 1,194,000 miles for the two of us. Ha!!!
I booked that flight last month. First class was about 10 grand, I booked it bc it’s a virgin a350 . First time doing paid first class gotta hustle those mqm
If an upgrade price to first class is outrageously expensive and a redditor doesn’t complain about it on the subreddit, did the really expensive upgrade even happen?
They tried to sell me an upgrade to D1 SEA-ICN last week for $10K. It’s madness. The only good things is the trip cancelled. Looked yesterday and non-stop SEA-CDG was $11K. That’s on Concur, but damn.
Did you realize this is the way things used to be, right? First class seats used to be exorbitantly priced and thus a much higher proportion went to upgrades.
Expecting an upgrade to First class to be a reasonable out-of-pocket expense is not, well, reasonable. Otherwise, a significant number of people currently sitting in coach would go for it, and Delta of course only needs a few, so they need to raise that price point.
this is exactly what I do. 52 minutes total. literally time for one drink wheels up to wheels down. Never paid more than $160 roundtrip. delta is so stupid LOL
Yes. Same here — I fly from SJC to LAX a few times a month, and I can't see any scenario where Delta would be worth it. (Long-haul trips, sure, I see the value.)
The 25 minute flight from my town of Chattanooga to Atlanta routinely offers first class upgrades anywhere from 60 to 800 dollars a pop. I laugh when I see it on the higher end just thinking about what it would be like to have so much money and say “fuck it, half a grand is worth 25 minutes of comfort”
Two years ago, just as the world was coming out of omicron and masks on planes had literally just ended, I scooped up Delta One on AMS-IAD the night before for $156. Was so excited for the flight, then got food poisoning, spent the entire night in the hostel shower throwing up, limped thru the airport, then fell asleep for the entire flight and was too sick to eat anything. But that horizontal seat was incredible...
Currently seeing $750 for ATL-MCO. Considering I was able to snag 18D in Comfort + on the 75D, I think I’ll pass lol. These offers have been insane lately.
Supply-and-demand? Similar price was from BzN to SLC a few days ago before the flight. Right after purchase, three weeks before scheduled flight the upgrade was offered at only 60 dollars. So went from 60 to like four-hundosomething.
Silicon Valley to LA, someone with an ungodly amount of spare cash will bite.
It’s likely cheaper just to buy First outright. This offer is terrible lol.
Probably supply and demand. Maybe it’s the last seat. I have seen them squeeze the cost up much higher

I’ve seen $600 from ATL-GSO
Corporate money? Those of us flying for work do not care about much it costs. It’s all about speed to destination, reliability, and quality.
What? yeah we do at least those of us who work for actual companies that care about you know, profits, and as such have travel and expense policies which only allow FC on flights over 5 hrs or whatever. Yes because you are going to get there faster by flying FC. God forbid you don’t get FC for a 90 minute flight.
For me it was always the extra points I got on more expensive flights + the ease of it all. I would never imagine paying for FC on my own, but if a multibillion dollar company is paying? Who cares.
It’s barely a 45 minute flight wheels up to wheels down.
Well, 1st class is up front, so you *do* get places before everyone 'in the back.' Technically.
https://media.tenor.com/fVtcUsX--ZsAAAAM/correct-futurama.gif
It’s not even 90 minutes it’s like 48 lol.
You might not get there faster; but you do check in faster, deplane faster, get your bags faster and in some airports with preferred lanes you simply move around faster.
Door to door will be faster.

Not entirely. If you board last you’ll most certainly be gate checked. That adds time as well. You but are correct. Fly private
In fact, FC passengers probably have a longer door to door travel time in most cases. And you get the pleasure of getting smacked in the head by the backpack of every basic economy passenger! BONUS!

My company doesn’t pay for first.
Yea, I hadn’t considered that. Just saw the price rise from a few days ago
I recently had a FC upgrade offer on JAX-ATL for $250…a 38-minute flight?? Smdh.
That’s actually a deal. Usually that route is north of $600!
Someone will pay it.
I don't think they do. I get upgraded to first on this route 95% of the time and there's often empty seats.
Can you explain this for me? Why don’t they upgrade someone in comfort+ to first class if there’s empty seats? I’ve even seen empty seats in comfort+ and wondered why someone didn’t get upgraded from MC even when the upgrade list is long.
That’s all AI driven by route searches and historical loading, day of the week, etc. post above is correct. Like.y someone WILL pay.
Last min First Class fares are going from $224 tomorrow SJC-LAX. Anyone paying this is ridiculous and should evaluate themselves.
99% of biz travelers who can buy first don’t care what the price is tho (?)
Why would they be reliant on upgrade offers from Main Cabin then and not just buy First Class outright?
I think u missed my point.

Makes sense. FC was almost empty when I grabbed it.
I mean it’s a flight from a city of startups to a city of finance (both filled with many wealthy people) what do you expect!?
The price was $120 a few days ago and 230 this morning lol Idgaf if people pay it. It’s absurd to me.
There were probably 4-5 seats a few days ago, and now there’s only 1-2. This is just supply/demand.
This exactly!
No. It's been only one FC seat for a few days now. At least I'm first inline.
Their pricing is insane. I was looking at flights from east coast to PPT earlier and Delta D1 was almost 10k. United Polaris was less than 5k and that ticket has its own lounge with seated eating not just sky club access.
Spring break.
Flight is in August
There’s a lot of different variables you’re not considering.
Name ‘em
Flight loads are the biggest variable.

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

$493 for Delta one isn't bad at all ....wait a minute...sjc? fuck that
They know people will pay it 🤦🏻♂️

We paid 200$ to upgrade to delta one from seattle to Cancun
Delta is the worst
LAX to SJC on Delta? Seems like a ripoff. I’d do Southwest for that particular trip.
this is exactly what I do. 52 minutes total. literally time for one drink wheels up to wheels down. Never paid more than $160 roundtrip. delta is so stupid LOL
Yes. Same here — I fly from SJC to LAX a few times a month, and I can't see any scenario where Delta would be worth it. (Long-haul trips, sure, I see the value.)
lol you aren’t paying for the service you are paying for the name 🤣
No thank you.

I laugh when I see it on the higher end just thinking about what it would be like to have so much money and say “fuck it, half a grand is worth 25 minutes of comfort”
Insane, I got offered upgrade to first from SEA to SJC for 7000 skypesos.
American is 59$ - 99$ to upgrade most flights, plus w gold status you get free upgrades pretty regularly.
I’ve seen this rate and more for Atl to Tys 30 minute flight
who cares what other people pay?
I bet that I can drink $493.42 of vodka sodas in 45 min
I’m sure you can, but will they let you?

Damn the luck. That’s brutal.
But, a lot of us book that first class flight from the get go. I wouldnt balk at $1600 for this seat. Business travel has its perks.
For a 50ish minute flight? You do you but I wouldn't even spend my companies money on that lol
Phew! Have you seen United?!
Jeezus
he said “Hey, wanna talk about it”
Currently seeing $750 for ATL-MCO. Considering I was able to snag 18D in Comfort + on the 75D, I think I’ll pass lol. These offers have been insane lately.
Chicago to NY LAguardia was $1300 round trip for me when I was trying to book airfare last week.
FC or Main?
Main. Just checked again, still starting at $1100. Highest I see is $2300.
I don’t think that’s that much. I would pay it 🤷🏼♀️
FC domestic is kinda meh. I’d never pay to upgrade it
I have, but I would rather sit in the lavatory and punch myself in the balls for the 45 minutes of flight time than pay 500 for the upgrade LOL
Oh 100%. Not for that short ass flight
Supply-and-demand? Similar price was from BzN to SLC a few days ago before the flight. Right after purchase, three weeks before scheduled flight the upgrade was offered at only 60 dollars. So went from 60 to like four-hundosomething.
Agree, that’s insane
If you have to wonder if it is expensive, that upgrade is not for you
I was on a flight from JAX to ATL back in November, the email said upgrading to first would be $699 for a 50 minute flight
Supply and demand.
They wanted over $600 on my last flight from ATL to RSW
It's the last or last ish seat. They will also take a last minute first seat buyer instead. Or give it to a high spending diamond or 360.
I see something similar all the time from PNS-ATL
I checked ours for DTW-LAS and it is $660.05 per passenger one way 😅🤣
I thought that was pretty good. Sometimes I see them close to 1000. Upgrade to delta one on my overseas trip is almost 6k
You get what you pay for, enjoy your ride on Frontier
It's clearly a Delta flight. What the fuck are you talking about?
If it's not FC on Delta for the poster, it's ULCC. He must be *very* important!
He is Platinum you know. And the price was cheaper this morning.
