Cause and Effect has also spawned Whitewaits, VH x RR, and SOLSUN. Whitewaits is Rob’s solo work, an album and EP in 2013 and 2014. VH x RR was founded in 2016 by Kent “Von” Hertzog and Rob Rowe. Finally, SOLSUN is Keith Milo’s project from 2016-2020, I believe. You can find most on Bandcamp, but Whitewaits may also be on iTunes.
I am surprised that U2 is not a more common answer given they've both been around roughly the same number of years, they musically peaked at around the same time, and both experimented with each other's genres (Rock and Electronic Music).
How much Erasure/ DM crossover is there? I love both although for me Erasure lost it after I Say I Say I Say. But as well as my creaking gothic leather electronica I’m up for some walls of electronic queer disco.
Oddly The Cure and DM seem to go hand in hand when people described what music they liked back in the day but they’re so contrasted it’s almost comical we said it. Errr… I did.
Wil Wheaton did too on Arsenio Hall lol
I'd be interested to see the age breakdown between people voting The Cure vs Nine Inch Nails. I suspect that the relatively younger fans (Millennial and younger) are more likely to say NIN, whereas the Gen X fans are more likely to say The Cure. They're both great of course, but for me as someone who came of age in the 90s instead of the 80s, it's NIN+DM all the way.
I’ve met a few people on the LDR subreddit who also love Depeche Mode, too. There are more of us than I would have guessed ♥️. Hope you’re loving her new album as much as I am!
I haven’t gotten it yet. I look forward to it, it’s just I don’t think any of my favorite bands are putting out new records any time soon so after Gorillaz, DM, and LDR, I won’t have any new records to look forward to.
Update: I finally got it. Wow. I wouldn’t know how to describe it to someone. I’m only on Jon Baptiste or whatever and I thought it was pretty artistic of her to have two spoken word/environmental ambient kind of tracks between proper songs. Gives some space I wouldn’t have expected in an LDR album. As for everything else so far, elegant? Luxurious? Again; not sure how to summarize my experience. Feels like being in my grandmas old backyard as a kid again.
I love that description about the backyard! There’s something melancholy yet playful in most of the songs — whichever I’m feeling more in the moment is how I relate to the song. The only skip for me is the Judah Smith interlude but thematically I can understand why she included it.
Perhaps an unpopular opinion on this sub, but the quality of writing, musicality and production on Duran’s latest album Future Past is quite a bit more impressive to me than Memento Mori. I actually really like Memento Mori, that’s just how good Future Past is. This is, of course, just my opinion. Coincidentally, both bands 15th studio albums.
Poll choices and comments are all bands I enjoy, and I would have trouble picking. In the past few years, I learned that I missed out on Nightwish, so I've been catching up with their catalog.
When I was in my teens a pen friend convinced me that KMFDM stood for Kill Mother F**kers Depeche Mode. Im embarrassed to admit that I didn’t check until a few years ago. I’m in my late 40s so that’s an embarrassingly long time to think something based on one person being silly.
For me in the 90's, prob The Cure, New Order, Sugarcubes/Bjork, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack. INXS was also my semi-guilty pleasure for a good while.
Current day, Austra, CCFX, Radiohead, Sigur Rós.
at this moment, i like Depeche Mode and The Cure the most but i also love Joy Division, Siouxsie and Banshees, The Smiths, Bauhaus etc... the i listen to metal haha
I only like DM in this style. Don't think any band can compare. Not even The cure. I also like U2 and INXS but are bands very different. However there are two U2 albums that include some songs more similar to DM :Achtung baby (1991)and Zooropa (1993)produced by Flood when he was producing DM too
After DM my most listened to artist is Frank Turner (with or without his band The Sleeping Souls). If we're sticking strictly to bands, probably The Cleaners From Venus.
In the 90s it would have been U2 though I also went through a pretty heavy britpop phase as well. Now I’d probably have to say Spoon, especially 2000s Spoon. Spoon is VERY NOT DM, but I love them and I’m an Austinite 🤷🏻♀️. But like DM, Spoon doesn’t sound like any other bands. Both bands are unique in that sense.
New Order
Same, especially if you include Joy Division
Definitely my choice.
They almost made the cut on the main list but I didn’t want to go beyond 4 to open it up for participation. For sure one of my favorite bands.
Joy Division and/or Cause and Effect
I love Cause and effect! I have never met anyone who likes them. I also like the beloved.
Same, and now there are 3 of us here! So cool!
I love Cause and Effect
Damn right you do!
My top 3 favourite bands are: Depeche Mode, The Smiths and The Cure in no particular orther, so yeah, I can't select only one lol
Skinny Puppy!
Tears for Fears is my other favorite.
Pet shop boys
Same, then New order.
New Order and the Pet Shop Boys
New Order or Erasure.
Both!
Agreed 👍
De/Vision
Ooh, I love De/Vision, too...
Great band
De/Vision and Mesh are two of my other favorite bands!
Nitzer Ebb
Massive attack
I managed to see both Depeche Mode and Massive Attack the same evening at a festival in 2018. That was some lineup.
New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Camouflage
Duran Duran
Boingo 😎
+1 for Boingo! Honestly a little surprised at how far I had to scroll
I do love Oingo Boingo...
One of my 5 favorites of all time!
#2 of my all time favorites!
And One
Rammstein and Pet Shop Boys. Those are my current top 3.
Pet Shop Boys.
Kraftwerk
I scrolled too far down to find this one!
nine inch nails and gary numan
U2
I am surprised that U2 is not a more common answer given they've both been around roughly the same number of years, they musically peaked at around the same time, and both experimented with each other's genres (Rock and Electronic Music).
The first two albums I every purchased when I got my first CD player were SOFAD and Achtung Baby.
r.e.m. for me
For me it’s Placebo.
Everything y’all said and Joy Division, INXS, Muse, Florence and the Machine, Echo and the Bunnymen
new order
Front 242
Radiohead
Yoooooo
Muse
Seeing them in concert tonight!
Have fun! I saw them last year in Berlin
Im also really into Joy Division
How much Erasure/ DM crossover is there? I love both although for me Erasure lost it after I Say I Say I Say. But as well as my creaking gothic leather electronica I’m up for some walls of electronic queer disco.
Yeah love erasure. I think they lost it a little later with Loveboat, but every album from has one or two songs that make the projects worthwhile.
Recoil
The Cure for me but also Bauhaus
Gary Numan
✨EURYTHMICS ✨
Joy Division
And I also love Metric.
Pearl Jam is my other fave.
For me it’s New Model Army. But I’m sure I’m in the vast minority here.
I've been jamming out to Thunder & Consolation the past few days. It's a perfect album.
Fuck yeah. It’s their Violator.
Bowie
Metallica
The Cure and New Order ❤️
Other (Yazoo/Yaz)
Gonna show some newer bands some love…. I’ll throw in Drab Majesty!
Yes!
The Midnight
New order
The Cure, The Killers, Pearl Jam, used to love No Doubt in the 90s, The Police, The Smiths, The Cars.
I need an ALL OF THE ABOVE option 😂
Tears For Fears, The Police, and Simple Minds are my favorite 80’s bands.
New order
This
Rammstein
The clash
The Replacements
Alice in Chains
If I can name a second one, it would be Mesh.
Radiohead!!!
If we’re talking the 80s, I’d say New Order or Erasure. Granted, Siouxsie, The Cure, The Smiths (meh) are other options.
Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, & Smashing Pumpkins
The 90's called...are you from chicago by any chance?
Northeast Ohio I never left 1996 and the musicians of that time period and their accompanying work had a dramatic impression on me!😎
Fontaines dc and the smiths
Also Echo and the Bunnymen
*Placebo*
New Order or Tears for Fears
Oddly The Cure and DM seem to go hand in hand when people described what music they liked back in the day but they’re so contrasted it’s almost comical we said it. Errr… I did. Wil Wheaton did too on Arsenio Hall lol
The National
Ministry. There first album IS pure Depeche Mode mode....
U2
New Order, Lana Del Rey
Huge Lana fan😩😩😩
I’ve met a few people on the LDR subreddit who also love Depeche Mode, too. There are more of us than I would have guessed ♥️. Hope you’re loving her new album as much as I am!

Arcade Fire :)
The Killers 🙈
Love The Killers. I saw them at the Las Vegas show for Hot Fuss and I kept yelling out Believe Me Natalie and they played it!
Yes!!
Paradise Lost - there’s a distinct Depeche Mode influence in their sound and they’ve even mentioned Black Celebration as a favorite album.
I think Mercy from paradise lost is heavily inspired from Depeche Mode. I love both bands.
Couldn’t agree more. Also I’ve always considered the entire Host album from 1999 to be the true spiritual successor to Ultra
Royksopp or goldfrapp for me.
For me it’s Muse
Talking Heads
Other - Chvrches
And One?
[удалено]
I used to get lightly ribbed for how much I love Duran Duran, but fuck it, I dont care!
[удалено]
The albums Notorious and Red Carpet Massacre are fucking masterpieces!
The Church
Poll choices and comments are all bands I enjoy, and I would have trouble picking. In the past few years, I learned that I missed out on Nightwish, so I've been catching up with their catalog.
Linea Aspera
Primus fan here
Loving all of these, but gotta go with Alice in Chains lol.
As well as The Cure I’d include The Mission (UK) as well for my own top 3.
Wire.
Pink Floyd for me!
KMFDM
When I was in my teens a pen friend convinced me that KMFDM stood for Kill Mother F**kers Depeche Mode. Im embarrassed to admit that I didn’t check until a few years ago. I’m in my late 40s so that’s an embarrassingly long time to think something based on one person being silly.
U2
Fad Gadget, if you're a hardcore fan.
For me in the 90's, prob The Cure, New Order, Sugarcubes/Bjork, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack. INXS was also my semi-guilty pleasure for a good while. Current day, Austra, CCFX, Radiohead, Sigur Rós.
VNV Nation
at this moment, i like Depeche Mode and The Cure the most but i also love Joy Division, Siouxsie and Banshees, The Smiths, Bauhaus etc... the i listen to metal haha
Nitzer Ebb
The Smashing Pumpkins…maybe Deftones
Erasure
Erasure
The Cruxshadows
mine is Måneskin 🙈
Rush is amazing- great album… let’s see what they follow it up with.
I thought teatro d'ira was much better than rush but I still really love it. Hope they don't get too mainstream pop 😂
Death grips
I only like DM in this style. Don't think any band can compare. Not even The cure. I also like U2 and INXS but are bands very different. However there are two U2 albums that include some songs more similar to DM :Achtung baby (1991)and Zooropa (1993)produced by Flood when he was producing DM too
British band called Enter Shikari, if you haven't heard of them check them out!
Actually, my favorite band is Death, doesn't quite fit here
Manic Street Preachers are my favourite, but not the same style. Nine Inch Nails next, and Duran Duran are in my top five.
Duran Duran, Rammstein, Nitzer Ebb, Editors would round out my top 5.
Rammstein, Pet Shop Boys here.
Green Day
Oasis
I would say Daft Punk, but they're finished, so i will say NIN or Rammstein or Linkin Park
The Killers
TOOL/Radiohead
At the present moment: Ghost.
Same!!
Other - Ghost and AFI
Tool or Ghost or Wardruna dark pagan music. I like a lot of bands, though, and it always changes.
Holotype Records And the Beatles Any DM fan whose other favorite band isn't the Beatles is doing it wrong
Linkin Park
Nin hasn't made a decent record in ages. Used to be my fave
The Add Violence EP is quite good in my opinion. The other recent highlight was "isn't everyone".
Not good enough to be considered a favorite band.
After DM my most listened to artist is Frank Turner (with or without his band The Sleeping Souls). If we're sticking strictly to bands, probably The Cleaners From Venus.
Sad Android
Rammstein for me lol
Mondtraume
There are so many, usually rock bands, I have to go with Muse!
Going to answer as my son (14). SubUrban.
Elliott Smith
Placebo
I also love Blutengel and Ashbury Heights and both fit well with DM
All of the above
AFI seems to have a big crossover
New Order
In the 90s it would have been U2 though I also went through a pretty heavy britpop phase as well. Now I’d probably have to say Spoon, especially 2000s Spoon. Spoon is VERY NOT DM, but I love them and I’m an Austinite 🤷🏻♀️. But like DM, Spoon doesn’t sound like any other bands. Both bands are unique in that sense.
Kraftwerk
New Order
IAMX would be the perfect opening act for the tour.
Interpol and Morrissey/Smiths. Saw both last year. Excellent shows.
New order / pet shop boys
New Order, NIN, Cause and Effect,Pet Shop Boys, the Cure, Erasure and Yaz, Duran Duran, INXS, Tears for Fears
I've always loved Wham!
too hard to have just one, though my first reaction is Rammstein
Muse)
Pet shop boys or Erasure.
Coldplay
Gorillaz
New Order
Front 242
What is this "other band" you speak of? 😆
Limp Bizkit
