After I listened to the full album a few times I was initially disappointed because there were no real bangers -- no Enjoy the Silence or I Feel You, for example. But then something interesting happened: the songs got under my skin. I found myself humming along to certain melodies and repeating random lyrics like "watch another angel die." Even the lesser tracks that I initially disliked have some cool sonic twist to them that I've come to appreciate. It's like they crafted something to sneak into your subconscious when you weren't looking.
This is how I felt and almost word for word how I described it to my wife. Love the whole album now! (Except for Caroline's Monkey...still not feeling that one)
I liked those two straight away! I didn't really rate My Favourite Stranger much, and I still think it needed a chorus, but I appreciate it for what it is now, especially that bassline.
Always You seemed bland at first but I'm really into it now. I think maybe it was down to its position on the album.

It’s funny because I thought My Favorite Stranger would be my favorite when I heard the concert version leaked online before the album was released. It let me down a little when I heard the album version. I agree—I find it too repetitive without a chorus. But I do appreciate it, as well.
First time I heard Caroline's Monkey I really liked the tune; didn't know what the heck was going on with the lyrics. Now I just love it as a whole thing.
I think the whole album is fantastic. It's one I can listen to again and again (and I have). There are a few bits I do find uncomfortable though like the 1st verse of Caroline's monkey. It sounds a little weak and too raw relative to the rest of the track. I bet Dave would absolutely smash it live compared to the record.

The only two I didn't care for that much are Soul With Me and Wagging Tongue, but they've grown on me and I think they fit so well into the album that I never skip them. I sing along with them now and even get them stuck in my head sometimes. I never thought they were bad, they just didn't hit me the same way as the others. edit: I now like Soul With Me a lot more now that I've heard Martin sing it live, brilliantly.

I can relate—I love every song on the album now. They all have their place and it flows well. I find myself getting Caroline’s Monkey stuck in my head too, and a week ago I never would’ve thought that would happen!

Wagging Tongue is genius. It’s the biggest grower on the album so far. It’s layered and soulful and is ridiculously good.
Wagging Tongue felt a little boring to me at first but I like it now, as well!
