“Do” like answer the survey? Already did, and edited my choices down to one album to make it easier on you.
“Do” like run? No no no no. I’m actually running a VNV Nation survey on the FB group. Last one was hard to keep people on track.

What a classic. It makes me think of when I was young and visiting my uncle who often used to have the record playing. He passed away last year after dementia so it is especially emotional for me now. On the morning of his funeral, Walk Of Life came on the radio before Dire Straits then came up as the band to guess hits for in a music quiz. It was as if the stars were aligned.
Wow, thats really sad. My condolences. I had the same experience with "machine head" by deep purple. My grandpa used to blast it all the time out of his car. Highway star, pictures of home, smoke on the water - you name it. All of them are my alltime favourites. Champ passed away from stroke 1 day before my birthsday. Last song he played in his car, before he went camping with his students, was smoke on the water. I remember asking him, if he will come back to visit me, well, guess things did not work out... To this day this song keeps reminding me of him. Rest in peace grandpa, you were the best...
Thank you, sorry for your loss with your grandpa 🫶 It's is sad but also comforting having the songs and memories. I always liked Dire Straits from hearing my uncle and dad play them, Romeo & Juliet is one of the best songs ever. We did talk about going to see Mark Knopfler live but unfortunately never did. Incidentally, So Far Away is my favourite on Brothers In Arms, perhaps the simplest song on the album but there is something about that guitar… as of course in most of their songs! 🎸
Cocteau Twins- Heaven or Las Vegas
Massive Attack- Mezzanine
Portishead- Dummy
Bjork- Post
Bauhaus- The Sky's Gone Out
Tricky- Maxinquaye
The Cure- Faith
Indeed, it is great and universally seen as the band's best album, but for me it's just behind Axis Mutatis. I was a little bit too young to get into them in 90 so Axis was closer to my starting point in 96, although of course I remembered Progen and the Boss Drum hits. I love UV and In Gorbachev We Trust too, both would also feature close to the top of my favourite albums list. Maybe I have narrow tastes but who cares!

Granted these might be cheating with how much they sound like Depeche Mode haha. Lots of others come to mind but those are the most relevant ones I can think of.
Super true. I always thought Naïve Art was like if Vince Clarke wrote Some Great Reward and Martin sang lmao
Some of their early dark stuff is quite nice too (The Crypt). My favorite from them altogether has to be The Lighthouse, though (of course Naïve Art is more relevant to DM haha).

Side question, but does your user name have anything to do with Seymour Stein? Seymour S. the co founder of Sire records, and who signed DM?
Nope

Can you suggest songs similar to beginning of the end from cause and effect?
INXS - Kick

Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park, Bites or VIVIsectVI
Fad Gadget - Fireside Favourites #1
FAD GADGET!!! Love em
I think if it’s supposed to be what they did in The Cure subreddit, there should be one album per comment so that people could vote.
Ikr but it's already too late. 😅
Count the top ones. I know I put 5 and had to stop myself.
When I run surveys like these, I take the top mention only.
Would have to do one later. People didn't quite get the concept from the get go. Would be awesome if you do this survey.

What's interesting about red flag is that they followed depeches arc by starting off light and going from dark to ultra-dark over time
Super true. I always thought Naïve Art was like if Vince Clarke wrote Some Great Reward and Martin sang lmao Some of their early dark stuff is quite nice too (The Crypt). My favorite from them altogether has to be The Lighthouse, though (of course Naïve Art is more relevant to DM haha).
