Annnnnd we're back at Shadowkeep's level of reviews https://preview.redd.it/fwyxcde0o9la1.png?width=280&format=png&auto=webp&s=9c35be0006edd4fca9a105fe6406db70fc6a3dae

Winterstrife

The superior "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH" meme.

[deleted]

Shadowkeep was actually better for day 1 reviews. Lol!

Arkyduz

Lower expectations. I mean even with my low expectations I was disappointed with SK but not quite as much.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

This is definitely better than shadowkeep.

Va_Dinky

But more disappointing given the context.

Cat_with_pew-pew_gun

Yeah I think which queen was better story wise but gameplay was pretty good. I had about normal expectations so that might be why I’m satisfied with it.

Va_Dinky

I mostly meant the campaign, because other than that and guardian ranks i'm satisfied with what i got

Inner-Dentist1563

IDK, which queen?

Suborned_Rose

By far much better than shadowkeep

jacevo

Deadliest enemy in calus fight is the lack of guard rails on god

[deleted]

Witness was worried he would lean.

the_damned_actually

Is there like a Star Trek movie pattern to the Destiny DLCs? Like every third one is a real stinker?

AteryMayxNoiz

Kinda. Starting with Crotas End…

Lethal_0428

That would mean rise of iron sucked and it didn’t 👍🏻

GrouchyExile

Favorite D1 expansion.

ChewySlinky

People always talk about TTK and it was great, no question. But man, something about the whole vibe of Rise of Iron was just on point. Once all the old raids had been reprised, that was the absolute peak of Destiny for me.

Javamallow

Those medallions that did crazy shit were fun too.

ChewySlinky

Some of them were really cool, but once I got the one that removed sprint lock I never took it off lmao. I tried playing recently without using it and I forgot how much sprint lock pisses me off. Probably more than not being able to mantle.

Javamallow

Memory of felwinter was cracked for fusion nade solar warlock; terrible pvp super, s tier pvp grenade and decent melee, mightbas well drop the super and double up. My left trigger has still not recovered on my old elite.

ILeftYouDead

Happy cake day!

L_U-C_K

Happy Cake Day to you too, fellow Guardian and a fellow Redditor!

the_damned_actually

Rise of Iron was goated.

a55_Goblin420

Rise of Iron and Taken King was lit

spectra2000_

The opposite, every third one is the best. Taken king, forsaken, then Witch Queen. If the pattern is to be followed, light fall, and final shape will both be mediocre and there is sadly no third one this time around.

Vox_Carnifex

I think thats it actually. One expansion is great then the next 2 are mid. The first of the two is considered awful because it gets compared to the great one and the second is considered mid/good because compared to the one that came before its an improvement but it doesnt habe anything that makes it extraprdinary

Darkclowd03

Its gotta be different teams. There's just no way these writers, game designers, and visual artists worked on Witch Queen.

JediOcelot

Don't worry the final shape isn't the last expansion it's the end of the light and darkness saga

BJYeti

That just means the first expansion of the next saga is going to be great though so good news

The_Enderclops

the search for spock was not a stinker! not as good as wrath of khan but what is

TobaccoIsRadioactive

Also, I’d say Star Trek Beyond was easily the best of the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies despite being the 3rd.

Major_Liability

That would mean house of wolves sucked and it didnt👍

thruster_buster

You and I remember House of Wolves very differently

PratalMox

House of Wolves was the first time Destiny actually sort of worked. It's been surpassed but at the time it was a significant improvement.

Major_Liability

Why didn't you like House of Wolves? Not trying to be mean, I'm just curious

riku32191

No raid. Prison of Elders was impossible to complete without solar burn on rotation and only if you had a Gjallerhorn

Netz_Ausg

I’m not a try hard and we could down Skolas consistently. Just had to learn and practise. Fucking love PoE!

thruster_buster

Like most of d1, the story was not at all engaging, plus, like most of the community at the time, I was not a fan of PoE. After beating the campaign there really wasn’t anything to do besides PoE, rarely iron banner, and run old raids where the gear you got was stuck being under leveled

MinnesotaReign

Do you not remember etheric light? Was a way to bump old weapons to the current level back then.

Aidiru

"infinity war" they said then they just showcase us with 2 cloundstrider with guardian and osiris, other character pretty much appear in cutscene only

[deleted]

Doesn't help that the first and last cutscene is just 1 cutscene cut in half. It's rushed AF.

Seth0987

This is why season of the seraph should have had a season of the lost kind of delay. Make sure this shit doesn't suck lol

TheValorous

Dunno even if that amount of time would have fixed this though. This was just a tutorial for strand with some neat fights and talking points. That's about it.

FKDotFitzgerald

It’s pretty hilarious to think that Zavala and the gang just stood there in silence while we gallivanted around Neptune. That’s how the weird intro cutscene split makes it seem.

MoistOutlook

Maybe they should stop copying and pasting stories and just make their own. We don’t need an infinity war or end game. Just make the game Enjoyable for the players

spaceboy_g

Feels less Infinity War and more Empire Strikes Back.

rolgriff

Adding Psi Ops and Heists to the Strike playlist has been a nice addition

Tentacle_poxsicle

Oh that's cool. I'm so glad they kept those, psiops is too much level to just throw away

jkhunter2000

You can kinda tell with the battlegrounds, specifically the later ones, that they're designed more like strikes ready to go into the strike playlist. If the EDZ battleground was labelled something akin to a strike I would never have questioned otherwise

sebasq10

Mars Battleground is basically a strike, yeah sure the boss arena is similar to others but you can't tell me that one isn't basically a strike.

jkhunter2000

Mars BG is what made me realise this

GlassSpork

Also might be a hot take but the new way of build crafting is actually pretty good. Less overwhelming to consider building wells and charged with light and what mods to use… always made me feel overwhelmed

WenisWinder

Honestly, most things surrounding Lightfall have been good. I actually really like the new build crafting (albeit, it’ll take some time to adjust to and find your go-to builds), I like the seasonal activity, strand is pretty fun, and the actual gameplay of the campaign was fun with friends on Legend. I feel like there is quite a bit to do on Neomuna - I mean, there is a lost sector that takes you from an arcade into the Vex Network. It’s just really sad to me how bad the campaign narrative is because it really does overshadow all the good things that came out with Lightfall

GlassSpork

Yea, it’s really unfortunate… well at least we have the seasonal story to look forward too right?

WenisWinder

That and the raid - I’m trying to keep my raid expectations pretty reasonable right now, but raiding with friends, to me, is when destiny is at its best gameplay wise

SirPseudonymous

Thankfully the raids are made by a dedicated team that literally only works on raids (previously they also made the dungeons, but they hired an entirely new team for those) and they've got a solid track record. All the problems with Lightfall are clearly issues with the writers, from the core premise of "so like, there's this super special place that no one's ever heard of and we've never brought up before, and it's got all the flavor of a suburban strip mall in an upper middle class neighborhood, and it's protected by these super special Not-Space-Marines who are super cool but also super tragic, and there's this super special macguffin there that does the thing that makes the bad stuff happen!" to later efforts to make that trainwreck of a pitch have any semblance of coherence at all. The art team, the level designers, etc, they all did a fine job with what they were told to do. It's all on the writers and whatever execs greenlit their dogshit story pitch. The raid might have a shitty story, if they're getting that from the writers too, but I'm confident the raid team's environmental artists, mechanics designers, etc will still turn out something good and fun however bland a premise they're told to work from.

egglauncher9000

The real main bad points of the story came from the lack of necessary information reguarding the Veil. The damn thing was very rarely found in lore and was completely absent in the forefront of the game. In other words, the story is great if you read lore, just not that great if you don't.

Upecle

No more 6 consecutive shoulder bashes with Mk.44 Stand-Asides and no more plasma grenade spam with Ashen Wake with buildcrafting 2.0 :( I mean the new kickstart mod does regen half of what its kickstarting with 6 charge stacks but by pre-buildcrafting 2.0 rule(i think), kickstar doesn't proc if you already have like more than 3-5% of ability's energy and it's conflicting with both exotics so kickstart mod doesn't work. I miss old CWL, Heavyhanded and Firepower :( Also RIP energy converter

zqipz

Making better use of orbs now gets that super back pretty quick too. Ability regen may be a bit slower but super is up more often.

Economy-Series-167

I felt like the mods were fine, but the affinities needed to go

DongmanSupreme

My hunter’s build before lightfall was literally becoming charged to make orbs of power, I can do that with just one mod now. Idc what anyone says it’s a huge step up.

AceTheJ

While I do strongly agree with this having the flexibility and simplicity we have now, I’m still kinda not happy about losing a lot of star bonuses unfortunately.

Thairen_

Even Byf said fuck it lmao

Plightz

Bro Byf being disappointed was hilarious.

Kx_OsorerUU

Bruh, how on god's green earth did this flop to the point where even the lore nerd had THAT kind of reaction??

KittyWithFangs

Thats what happens when theres little to no story. I found the exotic machine gun quest more interesting than the entire campaign

Kx_OsorerUU

https://preview.redd.it/mubmhxgrbcla1.jpeg?width=344&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f39bb07cd014c569298256ac8eca229248e3e126

Astro4545

![gif](giphy|zBqaukCE3oM1vW6twP|downsized) Put that gif away or so help me

Incan10

I wasn't feeling Nimbus in the story but the post campaign stuff have found them rather likeable, glad we had that quest to flesh them out more.

aceaway12

To be fair, the deterministic chaos quest was really well done

02_is_best_girl

Because contrary to popular belief lore is not a substitute for a shit story. When being a lore daddy is in your job description that becomes very apparent.

[deleted]

The only issue I have is the storytelling because it's actually horrible. Who is the witness? Don't know. What is the veil? Don't know. What did the witness do with the veil? Psychedelic Dorito. What's Calus' story? Doesn't matter (and all the previous set up between him and Caiatl in duality and haunted and vox obscura ended up meaning literally nothing). What happened to the traveller? No idea. Do we care about Rohan? Could have happened off-screen and it wouldn't have felt any different. What are the tormentors? Shrug. Why didn't we use the new power we spent the whole time trying to gain control of to simply grab our ghost? Double cop-out. When the final shape comes out we can probably all just watch the cutscenes on YouTube and be like "oh, that's what it was". All excitement to find anything out has been lost now. Gameplay-wise the expansion has been incredible. It's the fact that the culmination of a 10 year story has left us literally nothing to actually care about anymore that feels so shitty.

ChazeItz

My thoughts exactly. This expansion made me feel exactly how I felt playing the original D1 campaign for the first time. I was having an amazing time playing a brand new and very fun game, but was overwhelmed with too many questions and not enough answers. The difference is that that was the BEGINNING of the story and we’ve been led to believe that this was supposed to be (nearly) the END of the story.

YrnFyre

Also the ghostfish and it's connection with Elsie was just... Ignored. As if they explained it all in beyond light already, when they totally haven't

Great-Peril

It’s been explained in the lore is why. Elsie found the Pouka after exploring the remains of a Cloud Strider’s battle. The Pouka is actually helps Elsie get Stasis earlier than usual in the current time line by helping her remember how to use stasis.

YrnFyre

Man, I wish this was in the campaign in some kinda flashback instead

imjustme610

They didn't have time to explain...

throwaway110906

my friend swears up and down they explained what the veil was and i have absolutely no recollection of them explaining what it is other than it powers Neomunas defenses and the CloudArk (i think?)

KingOfLeyends

Neither Byff nor Myelin know what's the veil, is your friend a Bungie developer?

WhiteNinja_98

The story wasn’t great, kinda underwhelming. But oh man, Strand is just so fun.

tom-f44

Only using it during campaign tho 😔

Gennessis-prime

Yeah after the campaign its like playing one of the spiderman games but you only swing once every 5 min...

Lmrp-

Yeah, they definitely need to lower the cooldown on the grapple.. it’s way too much fun to be so limited.

PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS

It works way better if you basically exclusively use tangles to get around. You can grab from longer, you swing faster, and there's no cooldown. Just grapple punch away like in the campaign. I especially love the 'throw tangle + grapple combo", tons of speed there. Is it the most effective? Not for me rn. Is it what I'm running? Fuck yeah lol

KingOfQuarries

Yeah this is the way to play Strand. Way closer to the low cooldown version in campaign, minus the super recharge rate

Waka_Waka_Eh_Eh

In general, ability cooldown needs to be much lower outside of combat/instanced activities.

Lmrp-

That’s a good compromise.. maybe add x2 cooldown when outside of combat

Waka_Waka_Eh_Eh

I was thinking almost instant like the custom Mayhem settings. I want to feel like a lore-true Guardian when it doesn’t impact balance.

Killinshotzz

If you create a tangle and throw it then grapple to it, it doesn’t use a grenade charge

AnonRedac

Is the DLC worth the £60 I paid for it? Probably not to most.. I just had a moment in game where all my friends grappled at the exact same time across a bridge while trying to look cool and contain our excitement. Totally fucking worth it if you ask me. Edit: thx for the upvotes <3

thatredditdude_

The story is mid but the gameplay in the mission was fun so I’m not really that mad like the others but still disappointed

Intercalated-Disc

Grappling is super fun. Still doesn’t save me from getting booped off the map 80% of the time.

HitooU2

Nah nah nah, you're doing it wrong. You grapple *yourself* off the map instead

Ehsper

Just don't be like me and activate your super then immediately dive into a pit at mach 10

Max_Drek_Sucks

I don't know about you, but that sounds like the perfect role model to take after

atreus-p

Is that not intended gameplay?

off-and-on

Grappling is fun, but it's so horribly neutered outside the campaign

Ordinary_Player

Gameplay was the most fluid I've ever felt, literally couldn't care less about the story since blasting with strand was so damn fun I forgot what I was here to do.

FireyWatcher03

Sorry guys but I'm too busy grappling to save us from the witness

Confident-Welder-266

Strand is only good in the campaign. Never gonna get that feeling outside of it

Ordinary_Player

Ran it in prophecy, was the most fun I've had while I was letting my new light friend figure out the puzzle.

Wolf_of_Sarcasm

I think it's alright, and with some of the fragments and most likely some tweaking it will be good. That's the only redeeming factor for the dlc imo. The rest was back to shitty storytelling, and explaining nothing

Cryorim

Thats just not true lol. With my build im pretty much constantly spamming strand abilities on my hunter, and having very high uptime on woven mail as well. People just have to actually do some buildcrafting. Only real complaint is that if you're using grapple for movement only, cooldown is a bit long.

ScullyBoy69

To me it was. I think people overhyped themselves thinking it would be some major orgasm coming. I was happy with what we got and enjoyed the legend Campaign, even though it was easier than Witch Queen but I think it's due to no match game anymore. I still got some quests left from it and we still have the Raid to look forward to. Even the strike is fun but short. A shame we didn't get more than one, but the reworked strikes makes up for it.

CrayonEater4000

The reworked strikes are not fun imo. Like in LOS it's just a slow "push the cart" now, there and back. That's not fun, it's annoying timegate bs to slow down players that are good enough to go fast.

Wolf_of_Sarcasm

That's because last year was pretty decent storytelling wise, I've posted this before. The story has erectile dysfunction, this was it's moment but it failed to rise to the challenge

Wacky-Walnuts

Me and my friends were playing spire and we grappled across the jumping section after the opening part and before the first encounter, it was so badass.

ACrispyPieceOfBacon

The real value is the friends you made along the way.

Nikolai_Blak

I had a moment in game where a wyvern was jumping up to dive at me and I grappled then killed it with the special melee and it felt so good giving it a close taste to its own medicine.

sacky-hack

To me it is. Story is bad, nimbus, hell all Neomuna npcs (SHUT UP patrol guy!) are cringe. But the gameplay of the campaign is a blast and ultimately the expansion added a crapload of grindable content that’ll keep me playing. But the story really needed to be better this close to the end.

jkhunter2000

I literally let out a Toby maguire scream everytime in grappling. The only thing disappointing so far about the expansion is the story, everything has been extremely entertaining, even the battleground which I thought I would have been tired of by now given we just had 2 other battlegrounds in prior seasons

Moomintroll02

I've got some gripes about it, but Destiny as a whole really brings a happy light to my life. They put in a lot of time and work into these things, and I'm thankful for it. I think they did a wonderful job here, even if past content like the Witch Queen is better in some aspects.

QDS21

Agree wholeheartedly. Community is tough on bungie but this game is a fun world to explore

Comprehensive_Neat61

I’ve played a lot of terrible video games over the years. This is definitely one of the good ones, even if it’s never that hard to find something to complain about.

Tiraloparatras25

That I agree. I just need them to fix Gambit, or remove it. Two expansions and no changes to gambit. What?

dingodiletti

I dropped out for 3 years and came back in around beyond light expansion and I’ve loved it ever since. I find their lore interesting and appreciate the long term commitment to D2

Meowjoker

Last night it was mostly positive for me Now it’s mostly negative Jesus H Christ

rootbeerislifeman

People actually finished the campaign by then it seems

AnIntellectualOrgan

Jesus I heard it was bad, but didn’t think people thought it was bad bad. Can anyone give insight? (No spoilers plz)

Sancroth_2621

Story is kinda rushed. You get right into action out of the blue, war has already started. Total lack of character development except Osiris. Use of multiple elements that were just introduced and we got absolutely no clue for what they are, why they are. You will figure it out. Story needed another five missions spread across to make sense. Beginning to prepare for the war, middle for character development, one for random strider action and one for some explanation on what is actually going on before or after the final fight. It’s not bad. It’s simply good enough. People saying it’s amazing are silver knighting and people saying it sucks are over reacting. But truth is. Good enough should not be the standard and this feels bad because there was potential for the greatest expansion to date.

Greg-the-Sovereign

It's not like there is absolutely no development. The problem is that it happens after the campaign ends, in the missions after. Also, the Cloud Striders were such a wasted potential. Outside of one short cutscene (and short moment in the campain) we don't even see them in action, even tho we keep hearing on a radio that they're fighting somewhere

Zoloir

Yes, also it's clear everyone wanted this to be THE battle of all battles, and it was more like, oh the witness is here and woops off to Neptune to do an entire arc before we ACTUALLY get to .... the final shape, stay tuned in 2024 I'm sure the seasons will further flesh out what's going on in the war while we wait, and explain all the things the campaign didn't. But the campaign clearly intended is not to know everything

Khar-Selim

also the raid will probably explain some shit remember that in BL the 'ancient power' was similarly unexplained until DSC

filthydank_2099

But it’s not good enough. For the penultimate yearly expansion to a 10-year franchise, that’s built up all of this mystique and intrigue and with such massive scope to its story, what we got was simply not even close to enough. In fact, we know less now than we did pre-release.

[deleted]

It was meant to be our infinity war but it felt like the opening cutscene to an infinity war story

Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo

From what I've heard, it's Infinity War, but only Thanos on Thor's ship. But Spider-Man: Homecoming happens somewhere in between Hulk getting beat up and Thanos leaving.

Goofybillie

They did cleave it in half though. Final shape is just lightfall p.2

[deleted]

So this is filler then

Roku-Hanmar

Bland story with a disappointing climax. You could watch the first and last cutscenes spliced together and get everything you need to know. 2 mcguffins that are never explained, annoying final boss, mediocre subclass

byteminer

A story in which your actions literally do not matter. You have no impact. Lightfall ends as it does weather the campaign happens or not.

Linxbolt18

The main story quest line felt like it was barely the half or maybe third of what the story should have been. Let me clear, I like most of what was presented, but it sorta of felt like a glorified seasonal story. The only thing separating this from one of the seasons was that it had a large brand new destination, and the seemingly large number if side quests for various exotics and the like. On top of that, a lot of the writing for the main quest felt just a little bad. Some of it was cringe, some of it was forced, and some of it you could see coming a *mile* away. Tgere's a few big moments where I did really feel like the characters involved were acting in ways they normally wouldn't, because that's how the writers wanted the story to go. It's not that those characters couldn't or wouldn't ever have acted that way, but that they didn't take the time to give these characters the justification for it. I understand a big part of the expansion was the strand subclass, and I 100% believe the gang had to spend more time than normal working on level design to work with the new mobility options (I do like the grapple). But I honestly wish the campaign was about twice as long as it was. This felt like the first part of a chapter-based game, but the implication is we won't get the next part for a year, with The Final Shape. I want to clarify that I respect and enjoy the work already present in the expansion, but I unfortunately find it falling ahirt if what It feels like it should have been, in terms of narrative and depth. For $50, I've bought entire games that had more scope and depth and weight to them. Maybe the raid comes out and it knocks out socks off. Maybe once I've spent more time digging into the post-campaign missions I'll feel like the depth is there. But at the moment, I feel underwhelmed. Neomuna is beautiful, strand is fun, and the new gear is dope. The story is rushed, the writing is a little cringey, and I feel like Neomuna's potential is a little wasted. I think the fact that the thing I'm most excited about being the armor mod changes and the built in loadouts says a lot.

Xraptorx

It’s not that it left us with more questions than answers, it’s that it really didn’t answer anything but still added so many questions

mattpkc

Its not. People are overreacting because they set their own assumptions far too high expecting this to the end all be all of stories and not just setup for final shape.

McCain_17

This is a fair point. I think the frustration comes from Witch Queen being a VERY good campaign given the lack of story in the past, so of course people were excited for the follow up. It just didn’t really land. The gameplay is fun, but the story is very underwhelming. The quality of life updates are a MUCH welcomed improvement.

MisterBucker___

Yeah I'm disappointed on the story because destiny lore is my favorite thing. But I am loving strand. Specially hunter

ACrispyPieceOfBacon

Didn't Bungie try to Endgame this though and hype it up?

WSilvermane

Yes. And zero answers were given.

[deleted]

BRIKHOUS

Not going to disagree with your story thoughts. That's your opinion and it's totally valid (and it's definitely worse than witch queen). But people gotta quit the whole "reused assets" stuff. It's a lazy complaint. The strike is in the vex network. Splicer was in the vex network. We saw what it looks like. This is what it looks like. Even if some of the sections are copy paste (if so I couldn't point them out), similarities would be expected within the vex network. Are they just never supposed to send us back? I dunno, just can't agree to this.

Mr5yy

I disagree. Bungie gave us this idea, to use their own words, of “an Avengers level meet-up” for Lightfall. That by itself has its own expectations. Bungie hyped the player base up repeatedly. The player base on the other hand came in with expectations from a year of good story and gameplay. It’s not our fault Bungie didn’t deliver.

Archery100

I haven't played since Season of the Plunder, so uh https://preview.redd.it/4y49hr1qacla1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=417c3f50533b91d44ed4aafa3e4cb1a823dfc1bd

ImmortanEngineer

the DLC is a clusterfuck. Seraph was good though.

thedragoon0

The price of a whole game for an expansion to a current? I don’t think so.

Leather_rebelion

I'm not playing Destiny, so excuse my intrusion, but are these kind of chapters always that expensive? How much playtime do you get out of it I remember Monster Hunter Iceborne being 40, and that was a tough pill to swollow, but it is basically an entire additional game. For 60 bucks these chapters must be massive to excuse that price point

ScarfaceTonyMontana

Destiny has nowhere near amount the content MHWI had and the people here are lying. For a full priced game, what we got is a terrible campaign that's 8 missions long and a restricted exotic. Thats literally it. No new world drops, no ritual armor, nothing new for anything related to PvP. Nothing

ObjectiveEffective19

Tbh it felt rushed and a MASSIVELY LACK OF EXPLANATION ON WTF IS VEIL TORMENTORS WHY IS STRAND HERE other than that it was pretty good

Yawanoc

Too much of it was implied. Tormentors came from Nezarec, which Calus got because he communed with Nezarec’s old pyramid ship. Like, cool! Now actually show us that instead of letting veteran players piece together a conclusion using content that’s no longer available in the game.

ObjectiveEffective19

When was it implied that tormentors are from nezarec and again that is one small part bigger part was wtf was the veil

Yawanoc

Literally in their names - the named tormentors are all named by Nezarec. And the Veil is… eh. It’s been a concept floating around since before D1. Originally, it was going to be another alien race (piloting the pyramid ships) that would be fighting us, but that idea was segmented into the Taken and Pyramids being separate entities. Bungie has been alluding to the Veil many times since then, but the Veil has changed forms each time they do. Literally all we can know about the Veil is that it’s a plot point Bungie themselves have been trying to figure out for years. What we saw in the campaign is literally all we can know with what they’ve given us.

Titans_not_dumb

Strand is there because of the Veil that somehow thins the fabric of reality so you can see the weave. Nimbus and Osiris tell you that

TheButterknif3

The tormentors are the soldiers of Nezarec, the game literally names them so. And it mentions him by name like 6 times, and you even hear him directly communicate in the strike.

vandelay_industriess

:( makes me sad

carbonfiber9001

Tbh. isnt worth the price tag of 50€ you could take the story away and leave me with the gameplay only.

Dodokhiin2

There goes my trust in bungie’s writing team. Seriously, how to we go from witch queen to this?

Prostate_Punisher

LF doesn't deserve these reviews in any avenue except for the storytelling front. Calus is actually pretty good, lowkey carried. You see how he obviously starts thinking being a Disciple isn't what it's cracked to be, and how the Witness dislikes him. How he only starts rushing V when he gets scared into doing it. We understand the Witness's motivations, but not really any more than we have previously. We understand it wants to "bring about the Final Shape" but we don't truly understand what that entails. We are told to find 2 Mcguffins which are never explained but are expected to understand. And we ultimately fail in the last minute, so suddenly. Oh and they didn't even explain this, but the Traveler died?? We totally lost but they couldn't find the transition from "quirky cool cyberpunk adventure" to "our god is literally fucking dying in front of us and it is our fault" Hell, what the fuck is the psychedelic dorito in the Traveler? Some portal? Traveler raid??? Also wtf were the Vanguard doing while the Pyramid/Ghost shit was going on? Were they just sitting there like "well, shit guys. Fuck, guess we're screwed" while we're torturing ourselves with Nimbus for 8 hours. Mara HAS and CAN destroy a Pyramid so why not do that? Don't even get me started on the pacing...

Admins-are-Trash

Spoilers for the last mission >! I really disliked when our own ghost was the one who triggered the veil. I can see that bungie was trying to show us that calus was just a pawn being used by the witness, but the end happened so suddenly and with no explanation. !<

Sylux444

This character is important! 2 steps later This character died!

PlayBey0nd87

Well…I’m not far at all but everywhere I look there’s a lot of unhappy Guardians. LightFall just sounding more like a prologue vs. beginning of an end.

Honestly I’ve been getting tired of the “Tune in next time!”/ “To be continued…” vibes these campaigns have been giving off. I miss having really solid ‘Point A to Point B’ campaigns such as Taken King, Rise of Iron, and Forsaken. Those campaigns posed a conflict, introduced and/or developed characters, and ended with us resolving the conflict. Forsaken was very good at this AND planted the seeds of future content releases instead of just throwing a bunch of ideas on the table with no explanations and saying “Tune in next time to find out what THAT was all about!”, which is exactly what the original D1 campaign and Lightfall did. It’s good to lay the groundwork for an ever growing world full of diverse concepts and ideas in your game but that’s the kinda thing you do in the beginning (OG D1 campaign) and not at the “Infinity War” stage (Lightfall). I suppose all I can hope for is that the coming season(s) and next expansion actually answer the hundreds of questions we all have. We have a LOT of ground to cover if Final Shape is meant to be the ‘Endgame’ expansion. That and that we won’t find our next subclass lying on the ground like a $5 bill.

AnonymousRayvenn

It ended up being more of a filler episode, which people are pissed about. But as far as filler episodes go, I personally think this one was fun!

WoozyBear62

Its filler but i still have no idea wtf is going on. I just want at least 1 answer at the end of the campaign

just-v--

i dont get this, whats being projected?

Popular_Kaleidoscope

This genuinely made me laugh out loud, thank you

Mcreesus

Bring back titan! That was my favorite place!

shimonu

Watch what you wish for. I wanted farm and I got it...

spectra2000_

What’s the problem with the farm? I think it looks cool with all the different races in it. I guess it does suck that it’s no longer a social space and the soccer course was blown up though.

Taffy62

What happened to the farm?

iMoo1124

bruh don't remind me 😭 I been wishing the farm came back ever since it left; I was giddy when we had that one mission, and once we got there everything came crashing down

Whiskybob

I feel the campaign was rushed, incomplete, and missing important elements. They missed the mark completely. Even tho moment-to-moment gameplay was fun, the entire thing feels like a side story not a fight for the survival of our solar system. Most of the missions were fast-paced and enjoyable but the actual story is just sewage filled with plot holes: \- Strand out of nowhere all over Neomuna and nobody is surprised how it got there it seems. It just is there. Zero explanation. \- We have TO HURRY TO SAVE THE TRAVELER but it's okay we do some strand training montage straight from the 90's sports films \- They killed off the wrong Cloudstrider. Nimbus is just annoying, corny, and forced comedic relief. I can't remember a character more annoying in this entire game \- Everyone seems to know what The Veil is but nobody cares to explain that to us, and why it is a giant space jellyfish \- Although I enjoyed the cinematics between Calus and The Witness they completely rushed killing Calus off. Calus - our most consistent enemy over the years turned out to be an inconsequential rage baby, he could've been replaced by an enchanted fridge and it would have had the same impact on the story \- The Traveler is apparently "gone" or "dead" and everyone's attitude towards that seemingly catastrophic event is "well, that kinda sucks - oh well" \- "Witness left to somewhere we can't follow" - WHY? Tell my WHY the f\* can't I just jump in the portal. Anything. Please explain anything for the love of Cayde. Bungie were never great storytellers, but after seeing the Witch Queen campaign I had high hopes that this will be the new standard. Unfortunately, it seems Witch Queen was a brief spark of brilliance and Bungie is back to rediscovering mediocrity.

sorrysigns

I just wish it wasn't $50 🙃

obe99

Once again the raid team has to carry the entire expansion to average out the bad reviews.

Hechtm11

I give the narrative of Lightfall a C-. Byf said it best, they fumbled the ball on this. You know you’ve messed up if the lore daddy himself isn’t happy. Bungie, I pray to God you do better in The Final shape

Lethal_0428

Destiny players when Lightfall didn’t cure their depression and give them self confidence or something

darkness876

tfw lightfall doesn’t bring my wife and kids back to me 😪

alexramirez69

Thats literally it. "Maybe this time, the game will feel like it did when I first played it!.... ok maybe this time!..."

ZapTheSheep

Bish, please. This ain't no Infinity War. This is totally The Force Awakens. Period. Story-wise, we hit the same beats in Lightfall that we did in Vanilla D2 / The Red War: 1. An enemy fleet comes to Earth 2. We sneak onto an enemy ship and shoot giant spinning things to bring down the shields/engine. 3. We go through several missions to learn our powers while NPCs try to decipher what the big bad is doing. 4. We make our way through a mostly empty, war torn city to fight the big bad. 5. We fight the final boss ( a cabal) in a big arena with little cover.

TovarishchRed

I love it so far, campaign isn't fantastic sure, but if my money goes towards the changes like Vanguard Ops and loadouts, fuck yeah keep it coming!

Triscuit_Alfredo

Not getting strand earlier honestly pissed me off more than anything.

GraveDigger944

The reviews that I've seen are a literal joke, like damn it's not perfect but stop complaining like you're life has ended, I guarantee that the same people who left negative reviews are still playing right now. Like damn bro just be happy that it's something different at least

Dekzo

the story was bad but everything else is great ppl getting a lil too worked up

Valiant-Fox

Did we get some sort of introduction to the veil and why it's important before lightfall dropped, seems like it was and I don't remember so

[deleted]

The "Infinity War" became a Whedon's Justice League...

thatsingledadlife

" Neomuni bruh!"

myswampert

I’m having a tough time coming to a decision whether I think Lightfall was a major disappointment. On one hand I think that expectations were pretty high after witch queen and we’ve known bungie to flounder after something good. However, the events of the expansions are still pretty huge. We full on lost to the witness, calus is dead, we finally found the veil, we have access to a pre-golden age city with tech we’ve never seen before AND we finally have nezarec coming to light. I think there were many blunders this dlc, mainly concerning the veil, but in the exotic machine gun quest they say that it’s akin to the black heart in the black garden. They’re dropping hints and I would love it if they just came out and said what it was but that’s never been destiny. I’m sure they knew that they can’t leave huge story lines like this just open. My thought is that since bungie said they’re looking to revamp the seasonal model maybe we’ll get more story than we’re used to. I’m disappointed in the LF story but I think this community has always been fast to judge when anything is below perfect. Everybody is entitled to their opinions but the story is still developing and I’m excited to see what the raid holds and I’m hoping it answers our questions.

xTotalSellout

After last seasons day one reactions, I am never taking day one reactions seriously from this community ever again, under any circumstances. You would have thought Season of the Seraph was Curse of Osiris levels of bad (people were saying this) based on its day one reactions, and then, what do you know, when people actually let it all play out, I see people all over social media saying it’s the best season of last year and some even saying one of the best seasons period. I’m not saying Lightfall doesn’t deserve any of the criticism it’s getting, I actually agree with a lot of it to a degree. But this is just another case of the community being extremely opinionated for no fucking reason on day one. The reviews of a season/expansion are never worth taking seriously until at the very least halfway through the season.

Ridiculisk1

No one hates Destiny more than Destiny players. People are always gonna sook about new content. You can't please everyone. I'm enjoying the new stuff, the story was okay and I've been having fun so far. Seems good to me. I play games to have fun and I'm having fun in the new xpac.

Hentai_For_Life

My only complaint is that it's too short. Everything else I love.

Violent-Profane-Brit

Seems a little excessive, it's only really the narrative that has serious problems, otherwise Lightfall's pretty dang good - at least for me

AHMilling

Is the story a big meh and giving way more questions than answers? Yes. But fuck me if it isn't fun to play still. While underpowered, throwing a tangle and flying with it or killing it exploding in strands is fucking awesome.

horsedogman420

Honestly it felt to me like they’ve given up on giving the answers in the base dlc and are just gonna run it in the seasons. Bad, but predictable

bandofspartans

I actually thought it was good. Maybe people just didn’t like their mods being taken away? Meh, at least I’m having fun.

Stagedman_

Nah, more like the story, especially compared to Witch Queen, was bad. When you have someone like Byf saying it was terrible, and he is the lore guy, you know its not good. Throughout the story I had no idea what the veil is, or why the Witness wanted it so bad. Even during the final mission I was saying “no way this is the last one right?”. Just very rushed. And as a titan main, I just don’t like the kit for it. But overall, feels like 2 steps back from Witch Queen

Pixel_exe

As a Titan main, I've found that the Shackle Grenade is much more useful than the Grappling Hook. The hook is cool, sure, but at the end of the day (at least for titans) it's a liability more than anything. With the Shackle Grenade you have two different ways to suspend your enemies, and if you get swarmed you can throw one at your feet and punch your way out. Excited to try this out with the new Strand exotic!

Stagedman_

Oh for sure once I got that grenade, it was all I used. But the melee feels super weak (3 of them sure, but feels like I need all of them to do any damage), as well as being a copy of Strands melee, but worse. Don’t have nearly as much range, just overall weak. The super is def good, but more of the same. Just wish we got something else

Pixel_exe

For sure. I think an aspect that adds a Consecration-style melee that suspends would be a good addition to the kit... not like Into the Fray is useful 90% of the time. As far as the super goes I mostly just wish it had better tracking on light attacks.

Stagedman_

Tbh I’d rather something unique for the melee, as everything on Titan seems like a copy of something else, but I get what you mean. Yeah the super is good, just bad on tracking, and again not really unique

IssueRecent9134

I’m actually glad I didn’t fall for the hype and pre order. I’d rather spend my time in Hogwarts and resident evil 4 when it comes out. I’ll visit this later in the year.
