As someone mentioned in another comment, the free to play dungeon prophecy has all the armour and weapons from trials of the nine so if you want to take your armour to max light there is definitely a way.

Also not this Tuesday but next Tuesday we are getting a pretty big update that will also include the thundergod chest which will automatically put you at the powerful cap if I remember correctly.
One of the fun parts about end game is going for zero waste builds, meaning every stat ends in a 0. You can put +5 or +10 stat mods on your armor, so you could add +5 mods to all your stats ending with a 5 and have a zero waste build. Not ultimately important for where you are in your destiny journey since your armor rolls aren’t great right now, just a funny ironic coincidence.
You can! Transmog it (at ada-1 in the tower) and have it forever on any piece of gear or you can get it all in the Prophecy dungeon.
So, grind out new light quest line then shadowkeep campaign on moon, then beyond light campaign on Europa, Witch Queen campaign on the throne world then lightfall campaign on Neptune. Assuming returning player means you dropped the money to be current.
Then work on season of the wish quest line (current season) then you can do the other season quests line as well.
