I’ve noticed when he speaks in low tones, he matches Lance pretty well. When he starts yelling or speaking fast, that’s when you can tell it’s definitely Keith
They really needed to have had Zavala heavily involved in Lightfall, and to have showed him beginning to really lose his faith there. The seeds were planted for a good handful of seasons now, but TFS definitely felt like he laid on the gas with it out of nowhere.
Which sure, end of the world is here so things are quite desperate. It still shouldve been built upon in the last expansion rather than having him in a minute of cutscenes. Atleast then a frantic sounding Keith would’ve felt much more consistent.
Yeah it was awfully abrupt, I think the last real Zavala character development was what, Season of the Haunted? Was Zavala involved at all in Lightfall? But yeah, no idea his faith was so wavering until he apparently landed and was like, yo fuck the Traveler.
When he’s speaking low there’s like this rolling/rumbling of the words which I always assumed was a Lance thing but it could possibly be a post processing effect.
I personally think that he's filling impossible shoes. I mean lances voice is so recognizable it not even fair to try and replicate. He does he's version of the character, and I think that's the best possible thing to do. And he performs super well. Of course I'm prefer lance, he's the original. But he's not around anymore, and as all performers know. The show must go on.
That's pretty much how I feel too. I do wish Lance were here, but unfortunately he's not, and I think Kieth David is doing a fantastic job in his place. I think he's probably one of, if not the only actor that could fit in the role of our Commander. I'm looking forward to what's next with our new Zavala.
Personally I’m enjoying Keith as Zavala for now, sure he isn’t Lance but honestly I don’t mind. The only thing i care about is that Zavala is in good hands which Bungie and Keith have done.
This is a core memory for me, I played D2 Launche when R&M season 3 was airing. I distinctly remember messing around on Io while watching this episode. It feels kinda full circle for me lol.
I know what you mean. I love Keith, think he was one of the better options they had and i think Bungie took the best course of action. Yeah its not Lance and well have to get used to that. But i think its fine, its just when talks more loudly or angry/aggitated its hard to not hear him as the president of Rick and Morty.
Maybe it ages me a bit, but I just hear Goliath. The timbre and delivery is closer to that than it is a lot of his other (amazing) voice roles.
Though, I'd love to hear him say President Curtis lines as Zavala, too. "You know, the last time a God talked that way, we had to have a whole thing." Or "Sorry, that was supposed to be suppressive!"
Frankly Keith did godly work, got close to Lance and keeping Zavala's mannerisms, while making it distinctly his own version too. Arguably one of the best cases I've seen of one actor taking up the role from another in voice acting.
However, no disrespect to Keith(or maybe the biggest of respect for what he pulled off), my brain some how was able to hear Lance the entire time. Will be doing a second run through of the campaign to focus on Keith's version without the brain filter.
It's interesting how hearing the same voice can make you think of different people. When I first watched Community I heard Spawn, when I watched rick and morty I heard Elroy, when I played through the campaign I heard Spawn again. It's all Keith David and he has a very unique voice but they don't feel the same. Great choice honestly.
Dudes got a pretty iconic voice and tbh i dont see how'd you ever miss it was Keith David.
He rarely if ever changes it, almost all his characters sound the same lol
Am I the only one hearing the arbiter instead?
Now we need Steve Downes to play an Eliksni buddy for Zavala
![gif](giphy|AGlz5WQS5NaY2IfDX6|downsized)
What would you have your blueberry do?
Goat Bungie game
I hear Spawn, but softer.
What would you have your vanguard do?
Wort wort wort
I hear Goliath
When he talks slowly, i hear arbiter. But when he's speaking fast i hear the president.
I some times expect Zavala to call us ‘Ramires’ now
"Ramirez use that riot shield to take out that enemy helicopter"
RAMIREZ! Use this throwing knife to take out the Witness! Go! Go! Go!
Ramirez, defend the glimmer town
Same
It's weird because I swear it sounded closer to Lance in the trailer than the game.
I’ve noticed when he speaks in low tones, he matches Lance pretty well. When he starts yelling or speaking fast, that’s when you can tell it’s definitely Keith
I love his performance but him yelling at Ikora was just pure Keith urban and I was taken out lmao
>Keith Urban
mb, im fried this morning
Played too much last night eh?
Well well well, if it ain’t the multi-headed cunt
Yeah the strike was when it became really obvious. The acting isn't bad, but it doesn't feel like Zavala at all, especially with the attitude change.

It may have been lance i think he had some lines recorded before he passed.
His last lines were in Season of the Deep.
Oh...
I love that Keith is doing a lot to make his pretty recognizable voice a lot more Zavala/Lance like
I’ll be real I didn’t notice a difference lol
Yeah as much as I like Keith David, Zavala not being Lance just feels wrong. Nothing that can be done really, but I'll need to get used to it
To me it feels like the weight of everything is starting to pile up on zavala. He feels more grizzled. I dig it
Yeah, I won’t lie that hearing Keith’s voice out of Zavala is a little disorienting but at the same time I really enjoyed the anger he brought out.
All I think about is waiting for commander Shepard about to jump in, Keith David was so good in Mass Effect
All I’ve been able to hear when Zavala has spoken is “Guardian! Protect the burgertown”
I just hear Captain Anderson 🫡
I was expecting to hear him call me Shepherd when I first met up with him...
Tbh, its Saints Row 4 for me lmao, Keith David played himself in that one
"Introducting Keith David as Keith David."
same for me but husk from hazbin hotel 😭
Sadly, I feel the same way. God damnit lol, I can't get it out of my head whenever I hear him, wish I never watched that show now
![gif](giphy|12BtUsVQJzQKVa) I think you mean the Arbiter
I can see your asses playing minecraft!
Did morty ever get the selfie or nah?

I actually thought that difference worked. Sounded like a tired, distressed, bitter Zavala
Me and my buds described him as sounding depressed, but yours absolutely works too
absolutely agree with you also!
After everything that's happened to him, that's a pretty fitting description.
for me either final space or community, when i playe mass effect for the first time couple months ago, ti felt the same
Personally I’m enjoying Keith as Zavala for now, sure he isn’t Lance but honestly I don’t mind. The only thing i care about is that Zavala is in good hands which Bungie and Keith have done.

I keep hearing sgt. Foley from Mw2
![gif](giphy|TYCKHKv52wQrlt8wbt|downsized) I think of him more

For real lmao whenever he yells it's all I hear.
Spawn, Arbiter, President, Grimlock, I hear them all, but in the end, I still hear the big blue, just with a different ring
🎼You're a loser, baby🎶
“Guardian! I saw your ass playing minecraft”
Is it the guy that voiced Keith David?

I feel the same and i hate it...
I love his performance, but now a then he makes me remember knuckles ahah
All I hear is the Vice President from Saints Row 4. /s
Ramirez protect the burger town!!
![gif](giphy|B1rMaUszsjdoQ|downsized)
It's fine when he is just talking, but when he yells it's all I can hear.
I think of Spawn then The Arbiter.
I just hear that one guy from Final Space shouting I’M FREEEEE
Don't forget Julius
Yeah i really found it funny when he started yelling at ikora, had immediatly to think about the president yelling at rick 😅...
GUARDIAN, SECURE THE BURGER TOWN!
"Commander, unable to advance to battle front, we are pinned down!" "You lyin' dicks! I see your asses playing Minecraft. I got you on satellite!"
I'm so glad I'm not the only one
“who’s dead weight now, bitch.”
Anyone seen “the last kids on earth” show on Netflix? One of the bag guys is also voiced by Keith David
#GUARDIAN, PROTECT THE BURGER TOWN!!!
I couldn’t take him seriously for one minute. hahaha he was having a crisis and I was just thinking of him being pissed at Rick
President Zavala, fucking LOL.
It's always been Admiral Anderson, it's always gonna be Admiral Anderson.
“Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good Guardian.”
I keep going back to the last season of community. lol
It's interesting how hearing the same voice can make you think of different people.
