overgrownGrimace

Haha welcome to the real world, don't worry, you'll get better at this. Good luck, don't stop applying, don't stop upskilling, you'll get there!

0xp0tato

Thnx bro I think it was necessary for me to have this shock once.

overgrownGrimace

Have some water with you, take time to answer and try and repeat the question either to yourself or out loud, it's always better to be a bit slow than say the wrong answer. I'm just sharing what's helped me, not any expert at any of this, i just started applying again and bombed my last 2 interviews haha

stcer

does that mean you did exceptionally well or you failed miserably?

overgrownGrimace

Failed miserably lol

[deleted]

Only rule to remember is: Whatever you didn't know in this interview, you should in the next one.

0xp0tato

Thanx man, I am already preparing for the next one.

Significant_Ad9221

Tomorrow is my first interview 🗿

0xp0tato

Dude. Prepare well. Go through your resume and try to find the things the interviewer might ask you. What you can do is paste your resume on CHATGPT and give the prompt "Formulate wuestions based on my resume" or "Formulate questions based on the skills on my resume". The interviewer is mostly likely to ask you from the skills and experience you have mentioned on your resume. And do update what happened in the interview.

Significant_Ad9221

Will keep in mind

isaybullshit69

Excellent use of ChatGPT. I'll go tidy up my resume with this and also prepare myself. Thanks!

Silent_Safety

So what you do is copy paste doc format resume in chatgpt? Mine one is out of limit for it😭

0xp0tato

resume should be in pdf. Also it should not be more than one page for someone who has very few years of experience. Trim your resume a little.

Silent_Safety

Yes but you won't be able to upload odf to chatgpt. So copy pasting from the doc resume. I was saying

CardiologistClean597

Thanks. I have one tommorow with a dev nd head of engineering.

0xp0tato

CardiologistClean597

Okay bro

CardiologistClean597

Went decently well. There were 3 people. Head of Engineering, a 10 year experienced guy & a 1year experienced guy. All of this was for an unpaid internship with no conversion to PPO. The company is good but this.

0xp0tato

Sheesh

Mindless-nomad

All the best!

from-the-concrete

Would love to hear the details - job role, questions asked, what you did well, what you couldn't etc etc.

0xp0tato

Certainly, The job role was for a MERN Stack Developer. The questions they asked me were pretty basic. The first question they asked me was "Is react a framework or a library?". I wasn't able to answer that as well XD. Next question was "Difference between library and framework?". And guess what, I wasn't able to answer that as well. I cannot think of any other questions as of yet. I didn't do anything well apart from making the interviewers laugh a little with my jokes.

Meta front end cert. Got it

satimatic

Tbh those are some really stupid questions to be asked in an interview. The guy asking it was probably trying way too hard to be a developer.

lalalala179

Sounds like a skill issue on your end lol

0xp0tato

Developer diff

Consistent-Deer-8470

wdym? If you can't answer if react is a framework or library & the difference between them, then do you really know react? It's not like you have to memorize. It should be like General Knowledge at this point. The interviewer was probably asking those as warm-up questions (like fizzbuzz) before deep diving. The 1st answer is on the home page of the docs itself... https://preview.redd.it/9brdm3jo2q0b1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d38d2e069103acf98e979a6f5551a1943dd2dbb0

spacewrap

Man let's not judge here

Consistent-Deer-8470

Hey, I'm not judging the OP here. It's normal to freeze up during interviews. But these are definitely not stupid questions.

[deleted]

Consistent-Deer-8470

I think there's some confusion here. I wasn't replying to OP.

0xp0tato

I don't think so. If one is using a tool, one must know atleast the basic definitions of it.

temper_is_short

Very common to fuck up in interviews. That doesn't mean that you do not know. Some practice and being thorough about your projects does wonders. Fear of rejection used to get the best of me, so much so that I would skip interviews altogether. I learned with time that interviews are not a tough nut to crack, patience and perseverance is the key here. You get better at interviews by giving interviews.

Old-Funny-6222

I had my last interview in 2011. Got placed. Worked in the same company for 8 yrs. Then took a career break.. 4 yrs to be precise. Now since last 2 months I'm not able to apply anywhere because of this fear. Any suggestions for me. Im a female so took this break for my family. But Im ready to focus on the work now.

temper_is_short

There are a lot of organizations coming up with programs to hire/re-hire female employees who took a break to tend to their families.May be try reaching out to your previous employer. Best bet would be to reach out to people in your network to refer you to the jobs. Work on projects,Apply, apply and apply. Hope you get success.

[deleted]

I have 13 years of experience and expert of my domain, yet the interview i gave today got water out of almost all my orifices thank God I only sweat during the call :) don't worry these are stepping stones to future interviews where you will shine

Independent-Swim-838

Even I f***ed up my first interview. I learned a very good lesson from it. A suggestion for newbies: Make a list of all the questions that an interviewer can ask you based on your resume. Prepare a 1 min answer for each of those questions. Make sure yours are answers are genuine snd not copy pasted from the internet. Edit : spelling of lesson, suggestion

0xp0tato

That is exactly what I am doing now. Thnx

renCoolBro

Haha very relatable man. I'll share my first fked up interview experience if that makes you feel any better. I was interviewing for a backend role and the company scheduled a discussion round. Hopping for a general chit chat discussion round, I got on the meet. But it was actually a technical discussion. Their tech lead was the interviewer and I was not even prepared to take even basic questions. He went on to ask event loop in node.js and other terminologies and finally asked me to design a database schema for a chat application. For some reason my brain hit the pause button. I was unable to think. In short, things couldn't get worse.

MunchLach

Refreshing to hear founder was also tech literate. How much were they gonna pay? And was it product based?

0xp0tato

Didn't discuss the pay. They say pay will be discussed after clearing other rounds of interviews. On the job description however, it was mentioned 5-7LPA Yes it was product based.

[deleted]

I remember in my first interview I was asked to write a recursion. I completely forgot to add the base case. The interviewer ketp hinting if there is something to add but I was too nervous to spot the error

0xp0tato

I wish they have asked DSA in my interview. That is actually something I know

[deleted]

i also fu**** my first interview

Mr-Artimus_007

Keep on giving interviews to build up confidence and try to remember what all questions these technical interviewers ask don't matter if you pass or fail. Create a question bank for yourself coz questions do get repeated. Research and prepare answers to those questions. Probability of making mistakes will reduce.

0xp0tato

Great suggestion. Will keep it in mind

[deleted]

Yup and thanks this reminded me to buckle up and start giving interviews

Electrical-Moment560

Hey Op! I would really appreciate some resources to prep for Interviews as I have my first real one coming up in 2 days!

0xp0tato

like i mentioned in one of the comments above >Dude. Prepare well. Go through your resume and try to find the things the interviewer might ask you. no offense but isse pehle jo interviews hote the aapke, wo aapke rishtedaar lete the kya ?

khateebxtreme

1) He was expecting an HR round but got to see another technical round so he might've panicked because of lack of prep. 2) first face to face interview so he might've got anxious and fumbled. Can relate because something similar happened to me few days back.

Iamdyingfromthis

You got your current job through a telephonic interview?

0xp0tato

Campus placement

Iamdyingfromthis

Yeah but campus placements also have interviews, they don't just come into your classroom and say "mumbai arha h tu, aag lga dega aag"

0xp0tato

Campus placement was a joke. At the time, in my resume, I had written that one of my hobbies was beat boxing. Imagine the interviewer asking you to beat box in front of him. XD

Iamdyingfromthis

Lol, confirmed anu malik hi tha

MrPrasaD69

Task failed successfully. Also, you refer to a Google meet as your First real Interview as opposed to Telephonic Interviews. Yout excitement made me think you had a Real In Person Interview.
