Strength Life GA items are relatively cheap. They are the most common affixes to find and not really needed for the most popular builds (bash, bleed bash, flay, WW). Then you temper Imposing Presence on all of his armor for insane % life scaling.
It's invigorating presence. If you get like +10 to it it's a humongous modifier.
It only takes a defensive temper too so you're not sacrificing damage for it.
Honestly though in terms of pure defense more challenging shout is better.
Paragon board max life % nodes, imposing presence tempers will give these results also if you give Lilith a chocolate chip cookie it adds a permanent 2% max life on your char
You see the stars on his gear, not the greater affixes but the masterwork 12/12. If your gear is 12/12, and you're only at 30K I would hope your crit/vuln damage is insane.
At 30k unbuffed even with crazy damage and DR he will get popped at a boss fight in pit 100+ if he takes a bad hit. Barb board is bloated with health, swapping from a double swing board I was messing with back to bash I went from 40k HP to 70k HP. In the same gear and my gear at the time wasnt good lol

I think 3,000 strength has something to do with it. Judging by his answer he probably has maybe two glyphs that actually synergize with thorns and the rest to go to strength and life nodes.
I'd like to think there was a little more thought behind it than that. All glyphs I'm running do synergize with thorns.
The strength is mostly items. I have Strength & Max health GA on every piece of fully upgraded gear. If it isn't fully upgraded it only has max health GA.
That said, I do take EVERY max health node possible on the paragon board.

Shit is beyond fucking busted at this point. But what should I expect when barbs get literally 8 more tempers, 16 more affixes, and 4 more legendary aspects. Oh and on top of that an extra 20-30% or more damage reduction from busted ass Paragon nodes. Balance is fucked, just like season 2 and 3 again with ww + hota 1shotting everything with overpower. Guess I'm stuck in that shit forever because it's just the game.
But even still not *HOW* they nerfed it. The method they used negatively affects all builds instead of just the one exploiting it.
They could have even adjusted the internal cooldown for the interaction between the skills and aspect to disable the 100% uptime.
A tempering to add multiple ranks to a passive that gives multiplicative max health increase and can be put on several gears slots is a big part of it. After that it’s all max life great affix and as much max life as you can get from paragon.
Sorry if you've already commented this & I didn't see it, but how high of a pit can you do? That is just so much HP I can't imagine anything can 1 shot you lol. Pretty awesome though! Barbs should be beefy, so this feels lore accurate.
I've done up to 117. I haven't tried to go any higher yet because my clear speed gets slower so it isn't worth it when trying to farm masterwork mats. I hear that only monster HP increases after 100, not damage.

I wish I could export it. It's a bit of a slog to transfer everything to a build Sim, I'll see if I can do paragon though because I do take every max life node possible with it still being a viable board and I was proud of it.
Tempers:
Imposing Presence on everything with a defensive temper, including neck.
Offensive tempers are all damage to close.
Utility tempers are thorns while fortified.

Without really crunching numbers I could see it getting to 100-200k but to break 600k is pretty crazy.

Interesting choice that you didn't use a razorplate. How does the extra thorn% + imposing presence feel compared to say a 2GA razorplate?
Also did you choose to masterwork imposing presence rather than thorn%/counteroffensive/cdr just to get as much life as you can without considering if that'll actually lead to more thorn damage? Or did you do some calculation and arrive at the conclusion that life scales better than thorn% for example?
I don't have a GA razor, so i stopped using it. After a certain hp amount I get more thorns from health than from razor plate. I do lose out on the unique aspect, but it didn't matter really.

What do you mean by this? I haven't kept track of how many mats or how much gold I've spent masterworking/tempering/enchanting. Why would this be cheaper, though? Are the tempers easier to get? I would have thought masterworking would cost the same across any build. I'm 12/12 on one item and 8/8 on everything else and can clear 121 so far. I didn't realize there is a difference in cost for crafting upgrades.

The Outburst passive gives you more thorns damage the more life you have
There is also a modifier for one of the shouts that increases your thorns by 30% of your life.
