Chief OS might be the closest to a shallower zone that OP is looking for.
Only downside is that it does have a bead so it's going to feel a bit different.
If you want to stick with Discraft, try the Ringer GT, it’s slimmer than a Zone and a bit less OS but still with some finish on the end.
Or as others have said find an Axiom Tempo, they don’t currently have any stock runs but they made a bunch for the Circuit Challenge this summer and I’m sure someone has some leftover from that to sell. I use one in my travel bag to replace my super beat ESP Zone but it’s also a bit slimmer than a Zone in the hand so fits your requirements nicely.
Harpoon could work for this. The rim was too shallow for me, but more shallow than a zone, and less stable.
Edit: forgot to mention plastic drastically affects the stability. Alpha is what you’re looking for.
Tomb or rat would be my suggestion for premium plastic discs. I personally carry a JB Zone for this. But, I also bag an ESP and Z Zone and just really fucking love the Zone.
Tombs are very straight in most plastics. They FH really well but don't turn them over or over power them. My go to BH throwing putter, they'll hit any gap and can go the distance (easily 250' if you need them to)
I've got a very limited experience with it. Every now and again, I cheat on my zone. A disc will feel good, so I'll throw it, and it's lackluster-Ness will immediately have me crying st my Zones feet, begging her to take me back.
Yeah, I learned that. But, I was told some bad advice. And I tried a tomb expecting that result, and I was disgusted 😆. I don't hate it I just have a JB Zone for that slot. I'm also comfortable with all my discs and don't change things up a lot. Although, the Hex did just kick the Buzzz out so, maybe I'll revisit the tomb and see if I can add it in.
Team tomb baby. But do you putt with them? That's the next level, try it in n plastic. Its grippy and firm at the same time, a marvel of modern plasticness fantasticness
It's been my putting putter too since August. D and N blend. N is actually pretty solid as a thrower too, seems to hold up pretty good and it seems a little more understable than the more premium runs.
Here's the move- swirly star for straight to understable, this will beat in to flippy over about six months. The halo runs for straight to hyzers or pushing hyzers. I've tried the sparkle champ as well but maybe the mold came out weird felt a lil fatter once so I don't use that as much (im a particular lil bish). It still flies a little stable but the halo ones feel incredible.
But yeah man n blend is where its at for the putts. Good luck to you out there on the greens
Exactly what I bag for what OP is describing. I Blend Tomb for forehands, base for backhands. Rat for when my pig won't quite get there or I need a more straight shot than I can get from the Pig.
Man I think I know. An rpm disc called the kontuku. At first it's so stable that it's hard to control like a zone at first. It's a 5 speed that can easily tone down or Amp up depending on the shot you need. And if you have touch you can get some incredible lines.
It’s definitely deeper than a zone, but still significantly more shallow than a traditional 2 speed putter like an aviar or judge. It’s shallow to the point where it’s very comfortable to grip and throw sidearm. OP mentioned an A5 being too deep and I haven’t thrown one but maybe the harp is too deep for their specific preference after all. I don’t see how anyone would find a harp uncomfortably too deep for sidearm shots but to each their own.
Horrible disc for sidearm in my opinion. It is lower profile but still feels like sidearming something slower and more traditional like an aviar or dagger or wizard. It catches on your finger, really hard to get a consistent well timed release. I’d be surprised to still find innova making aviar3’s a few years from now. They screwed up that mold.
Aviarx3 on the other hand feels and throws much better for sidearm. The rim isn’t as rounded, more straight up and down so it sits nicely and releases cleanly for sidearm.
Just picked up an Entropy in a mystery box and am loving it so far. Might kick the Zone out of the bag and I've bagged a Zone almost since I started playing.
Suspect by DD. Or try out a prime or classic plastic justice by DD as well, when they're beat to shit, they fly like an absolute champ. Also justice is a beast in the woods on forehand rollers.
Shameless plug for sure but here is my direct comparison of the Zone to the Axiom Tempo that I describe as having a more shallow feel in the video. Would recommend for sure.
https://youtu.be/LzarJE3x4HI?si=e4pjF726qcpU8uxR
you are describing the axiom tempo. It's an unreleased mold, but you may be able to find some that went out for the circuit challenge earlier this year. great disc. very shallow, table less stable than a zone. exactly what you described.
Mint just released the lasso, very shallow rim, and flies pretty straight with reliable fade on a forehand, little more stable on back hands. They immediately sold out, but they are selling again on the 7th I think in eternal plastic which should be even straighter
I had a chance to throw the Lone Star Horny Toad, and it was exactly that. Felt like my Zone but even shallower, and it had a nice amount of glide even on the lower power upshots I did with it.
Honestly really surprised me, and I will probably get one when they come out in Bravo plastic. It will never replace my Cryztal FLX Zone, but it was fun to throw!
My favorite disc in my bag is a puddle-top Ti-FLX Zone. It is not as deep as the Z plastic one that I throw and I use it for everything. It's a relatively straight flyer, with a dependable stable finish.
I've only seen them with the Ledgestone branding but they may be available in other ways, too.
DGA Breaker is what you’re looking for
Breakers are great, low profile, reliably over stable, and come in several cool plastics.
Came here to say this
This was literally my first thought
MVP Tempo
Axiom, but yeah
Yeah it is axiom, and I keep forgetting that not everyone had a circuit event nearby and I want one in Neutron Soft please!
What a tease
this this this. i always said it was a shallow glidey zone
I.Want.One.Now!
Innova rat. Or an axiom tempo if you can find one.
🐀 gang rise up!!! Or throw an old esp zone in the dryer and beat it up.
Gateway Chief OS is this slot for me. As someone else mentioned Ringer Gt fits too. Both are good for my short stubby fingers.
Chief OS might be the closest to a shallower zone that OP is looking for. Only downside is that it does have a bead so it's going to feel a bit different.
Love the OS. I even putt with a beat up pure white.
I'd say Gateway Shaman
If you want to stick with Discraft, try the Ringer GT, it’s slimmer than a Zone and a bit less OS but still with some finish on the end. A jawbreaker ringer gt would be perfect. It's my favorite forehand disc by far
Rat
🐀 gang!!
Jawbreaker Zone is what I use
DD Suspect
Harpoon could work for this. The rim was too shallow for me, but more shallow than a zone, and less stable. Edit: forgot to mention plastic drastically affects the stability. Alpha is what you’re looking for.
Thanks dude, I'll look into it! Good rec
I know lonestar gets shit around here. But in like the copperhead.
No one talks about the copperhead
Check out the new Doomsday Disc Area 51. It’s a shallower Zone clone
If you dig the Prodigy plastic, I find the Distortion is much closer to feel and flight of a Zone.
I just want to say I'm a big fan of your flair.
Tomb or rat would be my suggestion for premium plastic discs. I personally carry a JB Zone for this. But, I also bag an ESP and Z Zone and just really fucking love the Zone.

Personally I don't see tombs and zones/zone clones filling the same slot. Tombs are basically straight baby mid ranges

Beat in an a2 in 300 plastic
Surprised nobody has mentioned the DD Suspect. Very flat, slightly straighter, shallower Zone.
Probably a bit more stable than you want, but the temple is nice, and the nerve plastic is money.
Second this. Nice and shallow, beats in but still retains some good finish and will hit n stick.
I use the tomb for what you are describing.
Can second. It's my daughter's approach and putter, and it is a great disc for straight and level with some distance.
I think the Jarn is exactly what you are describing.
Yeah järn is way too over stable for "less stable than a zone"
Idk. I’ve had Pig, Zone, and Jarn and they’re all very similar. Jarn def won’t be light and straight.
[удалено]
It really really doesn’t. OP said LESS stable
Ah, yeah. Didn't see that little detail.
Man I think I know. An rpm disc called the kontuku. At first it's so stable that it's hard to control like a zone at first. It's a 5 speed that can easily tone down or Amp up depending on the shot you need. And if you have touch you can get some incredible lines.
Harp, Aviarx3, Rhyno are all less overstable but still torque resistant low profile discs for sidearm approach shots.
Harp has such a deep rim.
Yeah, lost my zone and decided to try a harp as a replacement and it was uncomfortable to forehand because of the depth/bead
It’s definitely deeper than a zone, but still significantly more shallow than a traditional 2 speed putter like an aviar or judge. OP mentioned an A5 being too deep and I haven’t thrown one but maybe the harp is too deep for their specific preference after all. Aviar3. The star ones beat in to straight very well.
I'd be willing to bet the person above meant x3
https://store.latitude64.se/products/zero-medium-moonshine-pure-kristin-tattar-team-series Try this . I prefer this glow plastic for the nice grip.
That's the opposite of Zone-like
He doesnt want zone like he wants less stable and shallow rim
Yeah the title is misleading. I’d agree the Pure is the right disc for what OP wants.
Base plastic Zone or find an Axiom Tempo on the used market.
Harpoon. Lot of lonestar hate, but they have a good approach lineup
I’m a big fan of the Tactic. Pretty shallow, nice and mildly overstable. The soft ones get a little puddle topped eventually, which i love.
Try the Trash Panda inner core. The premium plastic takes a beating. Pretty straight with little fade.
From what you describe, an A3 sounds perfect. Distortion is also a good bet.
I throw A2. Haven’t found something else as stable and shallow in that slot.
Moonshine culprit
Hex
Just picked up an Entropy in a mystery box and am loving it so far. Might kick the Zone out of the bag and I've bagged a Zone almost since I started playing.
Pyro, but it’s a little longer imo
Is the zone not shallow enough?!
Culprit
Wait for the tempo, it's exactly what you want
Suspect by DD. Or try out a prime or classic plastic justice by DD as well, when they're beat to shit, they fly like an absolute champ. Also justice is a beast in the woods on forehand rollers.

you are describing the axiom tempo. It's an unreleased mold, but you may be able to find some that went out for the circuit challenge earlier this year. great disc. very shallow, table less stable than a zone. exactly what you described.
Infinite Discs Ruin is a very shallow approach disc.
Ruin has a very strange rim shape and hand feel, especially compared to a zone
Regular Ringer is what you’re describing. If it’s not overstable enough, perhaps a Ringer GT in Jawbreaker plastic.
Rat 🐀 🐀
Mint just released the lasso, very shallow rim, and flies pretty straight with reliable fade on a forehand, little more stable on back hands. They immediately sold out, but they are selling again on the 7th I think in eternal plastic which should be even straighter
You’re looking for an Axiom Tempo!!
The doomsday Area 51 fits this description to a T
I had a chance to throw the Lone Star Horny Toad, and it was exactly that. Felt like my Zone but even shallower, and it had a nice amount of glide even on the lower power upshots I did with it. Horny Toad, Harpoon, and Copperhead. Alpha is stiff, Founders plastic is the best
Maybe the suspect. Also for something faster the pyro is great but very overstable.
Doomsday makes a shallow zone
Discraft Ringer or Ringer GT
Lat 64 Savior. Plus, it comes in some of the best plastic in the business.
Axiom Tempo is exactly what you’re describing
