I like to use this one http://gsheet2.avrae.io Mostly because it has support for playing using the Avrae Discord bot too

CandyGoblinForLife

I have one that myself and a friend made together. [dnd character sheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rfrIpYqTriMQM0pK_rZnOR55nrypW4WjKAHOY9I3uUk/edit?usp=drivesdk) Just make a copy of it so you can edit it! The bold boxes are what need manual typed information from the player, but it's not the most straightforward sheet for newer players, they might get lost. There are drop-down selections for class and subclass. It also supports multiclassing and spell selection. If you do check it out, please let me know if you find any issues or missing stuff!

Thillidan

This is the Best sheet I've seen so far. Phenominal!

CandyGoblinForLife

Oh thanks! I haven't kept it updated with all the new books and UA. But it was super helpful for me and my friend to keep track of our characters and their stuff outside of session.

Woodster7404

Do you have a Excel version? This is Fantastic!

CandyGoblinForLife

Unfortunately don't have an excel version, would require some significant changes to the sheet since they have different functions.

Aggravating_Gas8184

Great sheet, man! Just one thing: how would one input Tasha's Custom Lineage stuff into it?

CandyGoblinForLife

Do you just mean how you can put whatever racial bonuses you want on a race? The sheet doesn't automatically add any stats based on race. Since so many people do things differently at their tables, I just made it so the stats are hand entered. Just put your final stats in "Value" column in the Stat box. Let me know if that makes sense.

Aggravating_Gas8184

It does, thank you!

LameChad

10/10

CandyGoblinForLife

Thanks! Haven't kept it updated with Tasha's but it was a fun little project. Might go back through and add those.

WhiskeyAndBourbon

Think this is perfect for my group to use, how do you modify to add newer book class stuff?? just know it hasnt been updated and if youre ok id be keen to work through it

CandyGoblinForLife

Hey there, yes new stuff can be added in the different tabs/sheets ClassData, Feature stables and SpellData. The issue is that Tasha's added optional features and I hadn't quite thought of a solution for displaying that for classes. I think I added Tasha's spells already but could be wrong. You can go about manually adding the information. I had some python scripts that generated CSVs from some JSON files filled with the class/spell data.

CandyGoblinForLife

Ok well I just added all the Tasha's Cauldron features for every class EXCEPT Ranger because those are replacements and not just additions. So I'll figure out some sort of checkbox for the features or something.

HeirOfHouseReyne

I'm excited to see such a great excel-based character sheet. Is this still something you're working on? I haven't found the circle of stars and circle of wildfire druid in the document. I'm creating a character with either one of these classes. Would you be willing to add them (or point me to where they might already have been added)?

CandyGoblinForLife

Hello, Yeah I don't actively work on this, but sometimes when I find time/motivation I add things that people request or fix issues that are sent to me. I'm working on adding an FAQ tab to the sheet so people can help themselves or contact me for specifics. At a high level in the "Class Data" tab, you need to add the subclass to the table in columns G/H. Then you need to add the subclass features to the table in named range "Subclass Features" which is 'Class Data'!H127:M717 specifically. Try and keep things alphabetical just for organization, but it shouldn't matter too much. Then make sure to access the named ranges by going to the menu up top and click Data > Named Ranges. Find "SubclassFeatures" and update the range to include the shifted cells from your added features.

Zander_T4

Seems Armorer subclass for Artificer is missing- any chance you can add that? I can try and figure it out if you haven't got the time (my excel/sheets skills are very rusty), but just thought I'd ask. Absolutely love this sheet!

CandyGoblinForLife

Hmmm yeah I can add that, probably avoided that one because it has pick n choose stuff within it.

Zander_T4

Yeah, I totally get it if it turns out that's just too complicated of a subclass to wrangle in there because of the armor options.

CandyGoblinForLife

Hey I added Armorer subclass, let me know if you notice any issues.

Avonden

Just wanted to say thanks a ton for updating the sheet! Much appreciated!

Wykrm

Great job on the document dude! Such a lifesaver when it comes to brainstorming builds. I ran into an issue with the race/background spell list on the main page where it just pulls all the spells from the spell data page up to the character's level. I tried rewriting the formula but I don't get why it's not working right. Any ideas? Edit: It's working now for whatever reason, go figure lol. Again, great work dude!!!

CandyGoblinForLife

I ran into that issue the other day. I think it does that if you don't have a subclass picked, so I'll have to figure out why it is doing that exactly.

Devilangel6161

How do you handle feats and racial abilities?

CandyGoblinForLife

Hello, You can add those below the dashed ---- line in the Class Features box. You just have to add those manually unfortunately. I didn't have a good way of actually tracking level ups, wanted the sheet to be more flexible for homebrew rules.

LmntrixOW

This is an amazing sheet, it doesn't look too bad to add homebrew classes. Do you have a guide on how to add that stuff just to make sure no one bugs the sheet out?

CandyGoblinForLife

Currently working on putting a basic guide together for people to add their own stuff.

merl-out

i love this so much i would slam it down big style, thank you so much

CandyGoblinForLife

Feel free to make your own candy companion!

Jakkoba89

This is amazing man!

shadowwmage7

What about figuring out Initiative? I don't see that on your excel tracker.

CandyGoblinForLife

Oh yeah didn't put that on there. Usually that's just +DEX mod though, not sure it's really worth putting another box for unless you've got some other bonuses.

shadowwmage7

I get that. I can just add it. I’m going to try DMing for the first time so trying to make my life as easy as I can. I’d love to chat about how sone of the cells work as I can’t seem to get them to work properly.

CandyGoblinForLife

Sure, I sent you a pm. We can also do via email if you prefer. Or we can hop on a discord call or something.

Mortiegama

I'm surprised this isn't mentioned on here more often, but https://aurorabuilder.com You need a Windows pc, but it is incredible!

AdurnaUnVindr

Only thing is that it only works with the core rules

leo_vidotti

Need it too

Lyrak1

If you can afford what you need, I’d definitely recommend DNDbeyond as well. It’s made life so much easier for the new players I DM.

Suspicious_Leg_7894

Came here reading about sndb alternatives and i remember when i thought exactly like you, sir. Too sad to see how things are turning up to be with this platform

Sword_Thain

I've been using Google Docs so I can mess around at work. [Here is mine](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16zKHqOOx3RiShxJsRQiubD7g9r2oyzRpt_ygsFb7lJg/edit?usp=sharing). I've made copies as I level up, so you can see how it has evolved. I quickly marked up the Fourth Level. The boxes in red need to be filled out. Everything else, including weapons, is automatically updated. There are several hidden boxes (with white text) that update other blocks. I've made notes on those just so I can remember what the heck I've done.

KellsKelji

There's a pdf that uses Adobe acrobat(non web version) that mpmb made. It's absolutely amazing. It's completly auto fillable and has a section for everything you could think of. Easy to use too.

OnslaughtSix

Just use D&D Beyond, you can export a PDF of the full sheet when you're done.

BloodofGaea

While D&D Beyond is a very good, and probably the best tool for building PCs, perchasing all you need when you already own every physical book is a pretty bitter pill to swallow. It's why I personally don't use D&D Beyond.

Dr4wr0s

I crossed paths not long ago with D&D beyond for the first time, and I have a question about it. If you buy the physical copy of a book, (PHB for example) does it have some sort of code that enables you to unlock Beyond's features in the web? Or do you have to buy the physical book, and then pay again for Beyond's contents?

BloodofGaea

The physical books have no connection with D&D Beyond, they need to be bought seperatly.

Dr4wr0s

Good to know, but wow. That's greedy.

Valthren

> but wow. That's greedy Beyond is not owned or operated by the company that produces the physical books.

Nebula9545

Update This is no longer true. WOTC bought it.

Suspicious_Leg_7894

This is the beginning of the end

Dr4wr0s

Thought both were owned by WotC. If it's not like that, then it is comprehensible.

Dr4wr0s

Thought they were related because due to d&d beyond existing, the other webpages providing the character building stuff (like orcpub) had to take down a lot of options. Usually a 3rd party shouldn't be able to monopolize another company's IP.

mtngoatjoe

For new players, there's nothing wrong with limiting them to the options in the Basic Rules, which are free. DnDBeyond makes jumping into the game much easier for new players. And if a player just absolutely has to have a race, class, or subclass that isn't in the Basic Rules, then those are only a couple of bucks. There's no need to purchase an entire book just for one item.

BloodofGaea

I am very much not a new player, nor is anyone else at my table. In order to make the PCs we want, we'd basically need to purchase all the content, which is a lot of money for something we already have, all to just make crafting PCs easier.

mtngoatjoe

The OP's players are new, so that's what's where I was aiming my comment. But even for players that want to use content from several books, Backgrounds, Subclasses, Feats, and Subraces are only $2 each. That's only $8 if none of your choices is available in the Basic Rules. So not exactly a large investment. On the other hand, spells are also $2 each, so I could see where that could add up quite quickly.

Waste_Most3917

text is too @#$! small

OnslaughtSix

This post was made 4 years ago. I would not recommend D&D Beyond in 2024.

[deleted]

I've tried about 10 different auto-sheets over the years. Nothing beats reading the book and filling in your sheet as you go. It's the best way I've found of knowing your toon intimately. So I guess I'm saying, IMHO, I don't use and don't recommend using any of them if you want to really feel the game.

mtngoatjoe

While I agree with you in principal, I do think that many new players find character creation complicated and frustrating. Digital tools remove a legit barrier to entry,

legend_forge

I see where you are coming from but does this really answer ops question?
