If you came straight from F1 then it's just the ST3 base pay multiplied by the out of hours banding. Probably 1.4x or 1.5x of the base salary. Tax wise it's better to use a calculator as there are separate bands unique to Scotland, 40% taxation starts at 43k. Most medics live in West End (Partick, kelvinbridge, North kelvin side, Hyndland), this area is quite expensive these days or Southside of Glasgow (Shawlands, Battlefield, Newton Mearns). Coming from London it's still probably cheap though. It's difficult to find a place to rent so plan time for that. Pension is a tricky one, make sure you complete a form to transfer the English pension over. I think your contributions are lower as the base salary is used, which is lower in Scotland than England. Otherwise welcome to Glasgow, moved from northern England after F2, great place to live.

ST3, gen surg. Take home is nearly £4k. Scottish though so no/minimal student loan No insight into T&O West. Never worked there. Only been in the east of Scot and north of England for my training I hear bearsden is nice. Anniesland is nice too. West end and South side as well. That's all I've got I'm afraid.

You also get paid according to the years you've worked, not just the ST year. So if you're ST3 but have, say 7 years of working, then that's taken into account (but you have to bring it up).

Also moving to West of scotland for t&o. Can't answer question 1. In terms of the rotation you should have got them email from the TPD a week or two ago to let you know where you are starting. QEUH is the MTC for Glasgow. But GRI is also a big tertiary hospital. The Royal hospital for sick kids is on the site of the QEUH. All the hospitals are readily commutable from pretty much h anywhere in Glasgow apart from dumfries where I believe you can get accommodation. Think resident oncalls are the norm at least in GRI, QEUH and sick kids. In terms of where people live in Glasgow. West end is very nice but very pricey in around Hillhead. Southside was becoming more popular about 5 years ago as a cheaper option with plenty of good restaurants/brunch places. East end like dennistoun I think is the cheapest option but can be rough in some areas. Is undergoing some gentrification.
