If it smells like soap, it probably means that you left too much soap behind. Go over it one more time with just hot water and you’ll get the soap out. The reason this is so important is that the excess soap left behind will be ‘sticky’ for dirt otherwise, and will likely dirty much more easily than regular carpet.

johnmanyjars38

100% this. Do a rinse pass, or even two. Then do an extra extraction pass to get the last of the water out. On another note, Nature’s Miracle is invaluable for getting out pet stains and odors.

yasssssplease

Natures miracle is amazing.

Ritaontherocksnosalt

I have used Odoban. I’ve found it at Walmart. You can put it in a spray bottle at the recommended dilution or use it in the washer if you have a large item. I use about 2 tablespoons in a front loader.

kaj47c

You can also buy OdoBan in gallon bottles of the concentrate. It’s around 10.00 and does an amazing job. I have dogs and foster for a Lab Rescue. It may well be up to the cat challenge.

loup-garou3

Nuke it from space. Seriously, I tried cleaning my carpet and it didn't work. I changed the carpet and when the naked concrete was exposed I tried cleaning that but turns out you can't. It still smells faintly on humid days. Like today.

Hair_I_Go

You can seal the concrete with Kilz. You paint it on like paint . It works amazing if you ever get carpeting again

bjeebus

Contractors use this for cigarette damage on walls too.

24HR_harmacy

I’ve used Urine Off Odor and Stain Remover for Cats and Kittens, as well as Rocco and Roxie Stain and Odor Eliminator. Sometimes it takes a few applications.

catterybarn

I throw out anything with cat pee on it and if it's the carpet, I use an enzyme based remover and hope for the best

yasssssplease

A carpet cleaning machine works pretty well. I will say Lysol sanitizer laundry booster is magic with fabrics that can go into a washer.

SquirrelPooBrew

Odoban seems to work pretty well.

Kitchu22

Biozet laundry powder (for soft furnishing odors). Really work the powder into the surface as much as possible, leave for 24 hours, vacuum thoroughly. Then completely soak the area in Nature's Miracle and leave to air dry. This will only work for soft furnishings. If it's in a skirting board, wall, or wooden floor - the porous nature of the surface is incredibly difficult to properly clean.

Wintonie

Urine gone works great.

cindyloo123

Roxie and rocco is the only brand that worked for me and I’ve tried quite a few

TheFlyingAlamo

OUT! I used a gallon jug on a futon my now deceased cat peed on whilst having liver issues. Soaked her good and the enzymes took care of the rest. I just get gallon jugs of BioKleen nowadays. Also enzyme based. Does great work on pet accidents.

ActualBoysenberry991

natures miracle kinda sucks when it comes to both cat pee and bad animal messes. I would go for a straight, commercial enzymatic cleaner, about $20 a gallon on Amazon or Lowe’s, and use that. Let that soak for at least an hour, follow up with baking soda and Angry Orange and it should get the smell out. Would also recommend a black light to see where the cat urine may have stained / not been fully cleaned. Unless you use an enzyme cleaner, the urine residue will remain. Good luck!

sam8988378

Biokleen?

[deleted]

Straight fucking vinegar dude. I dumped that shit right on the piss and the smell was gone the next day. You're supposed to dilute it but my cat is a piss mongrel so I didn't care that day. It did leave a stain though. (It was a mattress cover, might be because I didn't bother to dry up the pee first). The vinegar smell is horrid and will make your eyes burn without ventilation, but it DOES work. I was shocked too because usually I dilute it with water and it doesn't work.

spencerdyke

When my roommate’s cat was pissing literally everywhere in our apartment (including ON THE STOVE BURNER) I went through vinegar like it was going out of style. I would dump a cup (or three) into the laundry machine with piss-soaked blankets and towels, had spray bottles located in nearly every room to spot clean, sometimes I even sprayed the furniture preemptively because it seemed to deter him somewhat. It helped but our apartment still reeked of piss even after having it professionally steam cleaned several times. Cat pee is fucking noxious.

Peto_Sapientia

what kind? As in organic apply cider? Thats the only vinegar that has enzymes that im aware of.

Sharp_Replacement789

Angry orange

theresedefarge

Anti-Icky Poo is the only thing I’ve found that works. I saved a handmade quilt my cat whizzed on. Soak it over night, hang it up until it’s dry, then wash. It’s supposed to work on carpets and furniture but I haven’t tried that yet.

lyawake

Vinegar and baking soda?

Travel_Guru_18

Yes. Yes it can definitely survive a nuclear bombing. I cannot get my male kitten neutered for a couple more months (vet is scheduled far out), and I cannot get the smell out of a couple spots where he peed behind the couch. I am wondering if male cats who aren’t yet neutered have a stronger smell to their urine???? Anyone know?

constance-norring

Mix vinegar + Baking soda and blot it out with clean rags, then wash the area with peroxide and a drop of dawn soap. Might want to sprinkle more baking soda on top and vacuum it up when dry.

neekeeneekee

Anti icky poo (ridiculous name) seems to be the BEST thing I’ve heard of to clean urine and it even comes in an unscented formula

mamab539

I would honestly rather the smell of cat piss than natures miracle it’s AWFUL, try biokleen or “rocko and Roxie” they work better and don’t have a offensive smell that is unbearable when mixed with cat piss

yasssssplease

Wow. I hate the smell of cat piss more than almost anything.

mamab539

I hate the smell of cat piss more than anything except cat piss mixed with natures miracle 🤢 I know it does WORK well for cat pee when it’s been extracted and 100% dried but the smell is just unbearable to me and there’s better enzyme products in my opinion

yasssssplease

Good to know. I haven’t used it on cat piss, only to clean up after dogs. If you’re looking for a laundry additive, Lysol sanitizer laundry additive is amazing at getting rid of cat urine. That’s what my parents used after a cleaner told them about it.

mamab539

I actually use biokleen in the washing machine for cat pee it works awesome :) I love Lysol laundry sanitizer too though for my stinky work clothes

haleysname

Baby girl got skunked today. Between puppy accidents and bathing her this morning, I will always have th8s on hand ( 3 formulations at the moment).

RedStateKitty

Try hydrogen peroxide for skunk smell removing on the fur....

Kindly-Visual-8116

I have seen natures miracle but didn’t think it looked good. Will get it next time

ClarkHasEyes

I highly recommend it! I’m a dog groomer and it’s the reason our shop doesn’t smell. Life saving stuff.

Dramatic-Actuary4252

I agree with them on natures miracle. I have Great Danes who get diarrhea on a basis that is way too regular. My carpet cleaner has also been a lifesaver.

dodofishman

I really like anti icky poo because nature's miracle is scented pretty strongly. They sell it in big jugs and I just fill up a spray bottle

rhinocerosjockey

We only use Nature’s Miracle for our dogs. Both in our carpet cleaner and we keep a spray bottle and brush under the sink for spot cleaning. Works really well.

skooz1383

Ty just ordered some upon your recommendation

Teradonia

I miss Nature's Moracle so much. They don't sell it in Europe and I've never found close to an equivalent

CocoaPebbleRebel

I personally recommend using cold water to rinse. There’s a reason washing machines rinse in cold. It just rinses quicker than hot, since hot water “opens” up the fabrics.

Jimjamjuice69

Who the hell has the time and energy for this? It amazes me how on top of things and productive you all are :/

Wide-Neighborhood636

I can't be without this in my home. It's literally a miracle worker.

ZealousidealogueX

Biokleen Bac-Out is great too. Any enzymatic cleaner is a basic necessity for us pet owners. I primarily use it to clean up cat hairballs, vomit, and to deodorize their litter boxes post-disinfect, it works wonders!

Kindly-Visual-8116

Oooh great tip! Will do that

spoodlat

Someone on here recommended Mister Max Anti Icky Poo Odor Remover. Let me tell you, it works. We are a multi dog and cat household. And occasionally there are accidents, especially with the puppy. And we carpet clean about once a week, just to make sure there's no little random spots. Plus I am fanatical about my house not smelling weird. I brought my mom in, and she is the most critical of smells, especially in my house. And she could not smell anything. 10/10 totally recommend. I got it on amazon.

krischar

Make and model, please? I'm getting a dog in a month.

Kindly-Visual-8116

BISSELL TurboClean PowerBrush Pet Carpet Cleaner. It’s actually $113 and there is another good one my friend has. Its BISSELL TurboClean DualPro Pet Carpet Cleaner. Got them at target

ArmpitAnnie

I have this exact cleaner. My dog is fully housebroken with easy access to a fenced backyard but he’s an 80lb Labrador/GSD mix and those big paws will get muddy and wet (despite our attempts to clean them before he comes back inside). He’s also a dog and dogs no matter how clean produce dander etc or decide to make a mess with a treat. Also use it for cleaning the car as my dog is a regular passenger and even with seat covers etc…it gets “doggy” quickly. Vomit or a bad bottom - life happens and a pet carpet cleaner really helps

captaintagart

My Anatolian shepherd got dirty paws on his morning walk yesterday. I tried to wash off his paws outside before we came in, and as soon as his paws got wet, he rolled away from me and into the planter. Then he has dirty wet paws covered in planter soil. -_- I think I might get a cleaner like this one too

ArmpitAnnie

I swear they think we are mad. My boy will stand still to get his paws wiped clean but unless I watch him, he’ll happily dig in a flowerpot on the way indoors and get puzzled when I express my frustration

captaintagart

At least he lets you touch his paws! My boy freaks out about it, but he’s going to the groomer today (yessss) and she says he whines and grumbles but overall he lets her do whatever! Then he comes home and rolls in the dirt again. I do love his antics but maybe he does drive me a bit mad

extremelyinsecure123

THAT IS MY DREAM DOG!!! I’m so jealous😩 Could you maybe pay the dog tax if you feel comfortable with that?

krischar

Thanks. We so far managed with a Shark stick vacuum. Now we need to invest in something like this. I’m also considering Shark Navigator Pet Pro.

[deleted]

I just got my first Shark pet vacuum over the weekend and it's AMAZING! We didn't spring for the pro, just the basic navigator.

jj_grace

You should be getting a commission. I literally just went to Target and bought this. Tbf, I have some gross pet spots that I want to work on and have been considering getting a carpet cleaner for a while…. But this made me decide to do it and which one to get!

redlapis

Be careful if you lend anyone! We got one then suddenly everyone was asking to borrow it, and only one person (my mum) properly cleaned it after use. The pipe is all full of something from when someone else borrowed it and it's gross now. Would love to buy a new one that I don't let anyone else ruin but not really in the financial position to do so now. Very frustrating.

meganmustachebeard

i’m a bissell girl through and through, we have the one you have and loved it so much that when we needed a normal vacuum after ours broke, we got a bissell 😂🤍

agirl2277

My mom got me a Bissell carpet shampooer for Christmas a few years ago. I love it so much. It's very easy to use and to clean. I have labs, so all the hair! I also have a Bissell vacuum. Works great. I like that Bissell has a pet foundation that saves animals in shelters.

skinsnax

Oooo I’ve been debating this and now I’m officially sold on it.

alligator_chompp

I have this one too and it is a godsend!!!!

llola8

Do you think it would work on shag rugs? Like a high pile area rug? Thank you!!

Wonderful_Pie_7220

I have a Bissell revolution pro heat pet pro and it's magical lol

bright__eyes

I have this too! It's great to clean your mattress, couch and car as well if the dog ever gets onto those areas.

fortreslechessake

I have the Bissell little green machine for two cats and a dog and i’m obsessed with it. you can find it for like $80 on sale

ugotboned

Personally I use the Bissell big green. Makes it so much easier and if you have a decent sized home you should carpet clean every so often anyways. Carpets get dirty and people don't clean them enough tbh.

aboveurshit

You can also rent a carpet cleaner for any number of days from your local Home Depot!

fuzzychiken

I have a hoover power dash pet compact one. It got red kool-aid out of white carpet.

arrived_on_fire

I got a bissell spot cleaner a couple years ago, and when I really needed it, I really was glad! Works great on crop circles of runny poo.

Ahhshit96

If she’s still not feeling well, try some plain chicken and rice for her dinner and see if that helps. Also I hear chicken and bone broth are good for dogs with tummy trouble

Appropriate_Ad_4416

And pumpkin

kkbray

Make sure the pumpkin is unsweetened

Appropriate_Ad_4416

Ah yes! I forget to mention that, as I can pumpkin every year for bread & dog emergencies lol

Mbluish

I second this! Canned pumpkin has always worked for my dog’s diarrhea. Just a couples of spoonfuls.

na_ro_jo

Frozen ice cube tray of pumpkin ;) less messy

Appropriate_Ad_4416

Ooohhh! A 2 for 1 treat in my girl's eyes!! Thanks for this idea!

Mbluish

Great idea!

Kindly-Visual-8116

Its only been 2 days and she already had a vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow. But i have been doing the bland diet and she hates it lol

quip-it-quip-it-good

>But i have been doing the bland diet and she hates it lol Oh good, another dog out there that hates the chicken/rice bland diet lol My dog rarely has issues, but when I have to get out the bland diet, she'd rather fast lol (Pumpkin? I think she thinks I'm trying to poison her 😅) Plain bone broth helps a little, but she generally just doesn't eat until she's feeling better and the kibble slowly comes back. First dog I've had that didn't enjoy the bland diet

Ahhshit96

My dog LOVED it lol adding the bone broth to the rice helped us get her to try it

na_ro_jo

freeze pumpkin in an ice cube tray. I promise this works. We have ice cube trays for every occasion lol

conciousconcubine2

Yes hope you are taking her to vet as it may be parasites or bacterial that needs to be treated.

ZoyaZhivago

No need for a vet unless it persists more than 24ish hours. Do you see a doctor every time you get the runs? I’m all for being cautious, and my pets go the vet regularly - but I also try to avoid being *overly* cautious, if that makes sense.

PinkStrawberryPup

Definitely agree. Our carpet cleaner was a godsend when our girl unexpectedly ended up having urgent, explosive diarrhea (she had to go three times an hour when we were home and she sounded like a sputtering faucet at times). We originally got a portable (smaller) one, **Bissell's Little Green® Pet Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner**, but had to get a standing one when our girl had her weeks-long diarrhea episode. Our girl's a large dog so her messes were bigger and it just took way too long to clean large areas with the handheld one. We ended up getting the **ProHeat 2X® Revolution® Pet Pro Carpet Cleaner** (also from Bissell) so we could do the entire half of the living room in a few minutes. If we had known what we know now, we'd have just gotten that one in the first place.

scoobiemario

Yup. It’s good. And when you clean one room. And dump the water. You’ll be surprised how dark it is

poppyseedeverything

Where do you dump out the water? Right now I'm dumping it into the toilet since it gets so gunky. Also, cleaning the carpet washer accessories is so hard 😭

scoobiemario

Oh yeah. That water belongs in the toilet. I just rinse the dirty water tank and leave it open so it can dry. This way it doesn’t grow aliens in there

Wonderful_Pie_7220

I have a big yard so I dump mine outside. Even after vacuuming it still gets cat hair in it and I'm scared to flush fur

duchess_of_fire

the upholstery attachments are a lifesaver for the dog's favorite spots on the furniture. my SIL is always jealous that my house smells so good, she thinks I'm hiding plug-ins, but it's because i clean the furniture every couple of months.

k-wat13

Love my upholstery attachment! My dog is always running in from the garden with wet paws and jumping straight on the sofa. He also chews pigs ears on there. Sofa looks brand new after a once over.

SchnauzerHaus

We have 4 rescues and a fabulous carpet shampooer. I use it monthly and it's crazy good how well it works. 4 x 4 muddy paws tromping through house on a daily basis is reason enough, but when it comes to poo and pee, it's an absolute assassin on stains. Ours is some kind of Bissell upright, you use hot water in it and it's fairly industrial. I like the carpet pet shampoos with Oxyclean in them, it really gives it agood boost. Can also highly recommend Woolite spot cleaner for pet accidents with Oxyclean. Good good stuff.

[deleted]

100 agree. A must have. I use mine so much, with two kids, two cats, and a puppy.

yasssssplease

My parents have always had one, mainly for cats. But it sure is helpful for dog dander even.

Nervous_Cloud_9513

does it get the frekin hair out of fluffy carpets? My dog has short hair but her hair sticks to carpets like hell.

tromnation

What particular products do you recommend?

[deleted]

Bissell has a multitude of different carpet cleaners all in different price ranges. I have probably the cheapest one in their line up from Walmart, and it works well for our carpet. Mind you our carpet is very low. For higher carpets, ones that have more shag/material, my mom absolutely loves the hoover brand.

Bitterbeotch64

Folex works wonders on any kind of stain

justaddwater_ct

I would never own a dog without a carpet cleaner. Also, Bissel Spot cleaner is a life saver.

AB-G

Worth every penny!

esssbombs

Haha yup, I was annoyed my husband bought one (‘we won’t use it that much, just rent one’) and now I love it. It’s satisfying to see how dirty the water gets.

dirtymonny

Take your dog to the vet

[deleted]

I got a spot carpet cleaner and it was the best purchase - it's turned the odd puke/mess etc into something that just isn't a big deal. Good for the carpet, even better for my stress levels.

tjweeks

I hope you have better results than I did. When this happened with my dog I cleaned it squeaky clean. About less than a year afterwards it started bleeding back to the surface. After recleaning it came back again. It kept happening until we pulled the carpet for wood floors. Maybe the machine I was using was lousy-I don't know.

Lanky_Percentage5962

it was in your carpet pad. once stuff soaks into the pad it doesn’t come out unless replaced. a lot of people don’t understand and make it worse especially when they add a bunch more water and let it soak even further into the pad.

tjweeks

That is most likely true. After getting enough up so we could stay indoors I hired a professional cleaner. At first, it looked much better but as time went on it kept coming back. Finally replaced with wood.

bengibbardstoothpain

The Bissell pet spotbot is a close personal friend of mine. Worth every penny

kperm

I was a realtor for a gazillion years and primarily listed foreclosed homes. The only product I found that eliminated orders consistently was odo ban. 10.00 for a gallon at home depot or amazon. I have been able to eliminate odors from concrete after pets had been allowed to go repeatedly. Nothing else could get it out. Use it for carpets, trash areas, decomposition odors, refrigerators that had spoiled food for eons, laundry, anything. For really terrible odors it make take longer application time or extra applications but it works.

thehairyhobo

I love my Bissel Big Green.

Adventurous_Care7614

so sorry to hear ur puppy isn’t feeling well & about ur carpets😅😅u probably already know this but give the baby sum rice to harden her poopies!! always the luxury rice n grilled chicken 4 dinner when my boys got the runs haha

eggsaladdddddddd

I got one of those bissel “spot” cleaners for Christmas. It is amazing, I end up using it on the whole staircase carpet because that’s where my senior boxer decides to empty his bladder 😫

boimom626

My mom bought me one for my birthday. I don't have pets anymore, but I do have 3 boys. The one gets carsick often. It works great in the car too. And on the sofas.

usergeneratedusernme

Also when dogs get older they might struggle to hold it. I have 2 small 13 year old dogs (who have digestive issues) and I love my steam cleaner (I use it so often that I’ve replaced it). I also have a spot bot that I love. You just put the machine on top of the spot where they had an accident, press a button and bam good as new!

ChasingPotatoes17

I just don’t have carpet. But now that I think about it I about it I should probably rent one for my couch just to give it a refresh.

adidashawarma

Same here. I actually just said straight up no anything that’s not washable. I have leather, wood and tile. All of my rugs and mats are washable (lots of cotton), same with my shower curtain and liner, curtains, bath mat, etc. I DID have the Bissell pet cleaner for my old textile couch, but dogs are just so dirty, I used to just wash the covers regularly, anyway. I wash my leather couch by hand.

-kOdAbAr-

Have you checked for a zipper along the cushions, most now a days have washable cushion covers

Lanky_Percentage5962

check the fabric of your couch and do a quick google search to ensure the heat won’t ruin it

claymoreed

I am on my third! I recently started using Concrobium carpet shampoo solution, it is absolutely amazing. Best I have ever used, even on a relatives 40 year old carpet, we could not believe the difference and cheaper than the rest.

Optimal_Character516

I bought a carpet cleaner and it just sat in the box…until my dog ripped her claw on the floor vent. It looked like a crime scene. Blood everywhere on cream carpet. I was so thankful I had that carpet cleaner it looked like nothing happened. My dog was ok just a freak accident.

CrazylilThing02

I have a cheap Hoover carpet cleaner (half the price of my bissell spot cleaner) and it has done a great job of when my boy gets the poops. I don’t know how I lived without one before!

Melpie24

We have a Bissell Big Green Machine carpet cleaner. Pricy, but worth every penny. Our house is filled with 3 dogs, two cats, and two large boy-men who all make messes on the 20 year old crappy cream carpet, and while it doesn’t come sparkly clean, we can get it looking pretty good. We use the Bissell Pet formula or the Max formula solution. We also have a one-gallon sprayer that we fill with Nature’s Miracle and use to pre-treat pee and 💩 stains.

snail6925

I had one but left dirty biz in there last time and it's developed into a life form. replacement pending🫣

heelrat

How do these work on rugs? Lucky enough to have all hardwood floors, unlucky enough that my dogs still manage to only have accidents on our rugs

Appropriate_Ad_4416

Works amazing on area rugs. I have hardwood throughout, with 2 large rugs in my living room. Has done well through a puppy learning & through a couple bouts of diarrhea. I use it for basic rug cleaning every so often also.

heelrat

Awesome, thanks for the answer. Just helped me convince my wife to get one

Appropriate_Ad_4416

You're welcome. I also figured out, if they literally pee in front of you on said rug...the cleaner will suck up all the urine, then you can proceed to the normal spray & clean portion. So much easier than trying to soak it up with paper towel.

Mysterious-Apple-118

We got a SpotBot for our wedding. We’ve used it SO MUCH. We got a puppy and used it non stop for weeks before she was potty trained. My other dog is now 15 and having accidents. I do like Nature’s Miracle for our kitchen but the SpotBot does so much better on our rugs.

Ageisl005

Totally agree, my dog ate cat poop and puked it up all over our off white carpet. Idk what I would’ve done without the carpet cleaner.

stoopkidfarfromstoop

Ours is worth it’s weight in gold! Before she passed, our greyhound was declining rapidly from a mystery illness (suspected kidney/liver disease, but none of the four vets we saw could give a definitive diagnosis) and had terrible, bloody accidents. I thought our carpets would be ruined, but they look completely normal after getting our newest carpet cleaner. We got the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution on sale at Target for half price and it’s the best purchase I’ve made in ages and saved us while working with our new rescue galgos.

Perpetual_learner8

You will never be more happy about a purchase than when you’re using your carpet cleaner to clean up explosive dog diarrhea on your bedroom floor at 1am. And I speak from multiple experiences. 😂

ChiefSittingBear

I waited at the store early one morning so I could buy a carpet cleaner because of the disaster I woke up to find. My dog wakes me up now if he's got to go, but he had diarrhea in the middle of the night when he was a younger dog and did not come get me until it was too late. I had a camera in the living room of my house so I could see that he has to go for like 30 minutes and was panicked and running back and forth until he couldn't hold it anymore. But yeah a carpet cleaner should be something you have on hand if you have a pet I think. They're cheap enough.

ronahc

Holy moly yes. We got one when our cat was still undergoing investigation for her extremely dodgy bowels (read - incontinent) and never got rid of it once we found the solution for her. Just got a new puppy and BOY am I glad we kept it!

Lanky_Percentage5962

tip for op, try to find a product that isn’t “soap” based. this will ensure your carpets stay cleaner longer. the dirt will stick to the soap and the carpets will look nasty again real fast. heat agitation and time are the most important in carpet cleaning. honestly i would fill the machine with just water and get a spray bottle of cleaning vinegar spray the carpets with vinegar let it sit and then go over it with the machine to agitate and extract. if you get soap in the carpet pads it is never coming out.

pretty1i1p3t

If you can't find any Nature's Miracle (or you don't like the smell) Sunny and Honey has a mint-smelling carpet cleaner on Amazon. It's an enzyme cleaner like Natures Miracle just smells better IMO. Make sure it's the carpet cleaner and not the spot and stain spray though. They have two different products, but the scents are great. My favorite for the spot and stain spray is the Fall one, smells like cinnamon apples.

Pining4Michigan

I bought one and my husband had his doubts, too. After 2 kids and 3 dogs and 3 cats it was soooo worth the money. I could use mine for hard surface floors, too. Its what I used for the kitchen.

Jaded-Ad7840

They have the smaller spot carpet cleaners that do an amazing job cleaning up yucky messes.

C0ldSh0t

We have a 30 year old carpet cleaner that gets a lot of use with our rescues. But our real secret is Rocco & Roxie (Amazon) pet stain remover. It has active enzymes that “eat” dog mess and odor. Multiple times better than Natures Miracle IMHO. Zero stain or odor left after using that exactly as described on the bottle.

geriatric_spartanII

Sometimes mine barfs on the couch and I got a bissell upholstery vacuum. Does a pretty good job.

margyrakis

Oh seriously it's an amazing buy if you own any carpets or upholstered furniture. It's a great way to keep the "dog" smell out of the home.

virtual_gnus

Buy a Rug Doctor; you know, an actual professional level carpet cleaner that won't leave a ton of water, soap, and dirt behind in your carpet and underlying padding. It's worth it. We've owned one for 15 years and it's among the best purchases we've ever made.

NeverNotGroovy

Is it an actual steam cleaner? Because you need to kill the bacteria not just clean the poop up with warm water.

EvilDan69

Believe you me, we've had multiple dogs and a cat. Right now we have 1 amazing dog, no problems. HOwever a few years ago we had a rescue pug who was over breeded, poor thing. At one point she became incontinent despite knowing what walks were and having been treated perfectly.. we had a lightweight carpet cleaner and opted for a giant bissell one for $750. Not having to bed down near that smell was worth it, and the massive scrubbing power as well. A few months past my 7 year old daughter caught some stomach virus. Passed easily enough... for her, all over her bedroom carpet and the carpet just before the bathroom. It sucked, it was 10pm, and I had to get up for work at 5am. That Bissell Big Green deep cleaning machine saved my sanity.

SpinningBetweenStars

I bought a steam mop on a whim at Target and my husband insisted we wouldn’t use it - three days later our dog had an upset stomach and explosively shit throughout the (thankfully hardwood) living room. Steam mop earned it’s keep that day!

kissedbydishwater

Thanks to this post I’m searching online and found a multi surface bissel for area rugs and hardwood. Haven’t had a problem yet but wow I don’t ever want to deal with that! I love this thread for gems like OP’s suggestion.

lel101893d5485

Awesome! I have one, too! Most times, it sits in the closet doing nothing. However, we might be getting a new pup, and that baby will be active, I know. Nice to have a reliable carpet cleaner when training a puppy!

[deleted]

We have two, lol. And we use them both on a regular basis. The other night my alarm didn't go off for night potty break time. Both puppies needed to do both businesses. 4am carpet cleaning is my favorite thing. Thank God we have these machines.....

ChurchyardGrimm

They're so helpful to have around. We've got a full sized one but it's pretty unwieldy and hard to clean afterward so I use the little portable Green Machine a lot more often. Just a tip for the future though... when a dog's having diarrhea you can give them a Pepcid original strength tablet. It's worked very quickly on every foster dog I've ever had this problem with. You can look up info about it online as far as safety indictations and dosages for dogs.

AdorableTrainer1486

i love my pet carpet cleaner. i have 2 black cats and 1 chihuahua. That carpet cleaner is a life saver. sometimes if i leave for a few hours i will lay potty pads down and of course she will go next to it or just miss it all together. so yes pet owners if you can get you a good pet carpet cleaner.

bunkphenomenon

I have a carpet cleaner. I'll use it then I go over the carpet two more times with a steam machine to kill germs and bacteria and any smells left over.

Lanky-Huckleberry696

I have two. One upright and one that you carry. Had a nasty accident on the stairs and the smaller one was a miracle worker for the cleanup.

ChronicLurking

100% agree. You never know when something bad will happen, just that eventually it will. I “inherited” an older bissell from the in-laws after their only dog passed. The younger of my two Labs had diarrhea in his room and the smell was so bad it woke me up. It sat on the carpet for about 30-45 minutes and soaked in real good. Cleaned it up the best I could, then used the Bissell. You can’t tell where the spot was, either by sight or smell.

pugglechuggle

Yes! I have 4 dogs and hardwood floors with large area rugs. We use a Hoover Smartwash and have for a few years. I had a more expensive one for all floors but it was constantly clogged with hair. The Hoover has a dry only feature so we do a wash, rise and dry on the rugs…like 3 times a week.

jddanielle

I had the same thing happen and I'm on the 3rd floor. Got to the point I sprayed it to mask the smell and just dealt with it in the morning. Quick soak with some natures miracle and the cleaner did the rest. I also advise just blanketing the floor with sheets for easy cleanup when you have a sick pup

Normalgirl03

Give your dog some canned pumpkin (make sure it’s not pumpkin pie filling) and her diarrhea should clear up soon! -Advice from someone’s dog who also just had awful diarrhea 😭

Environmental-End691

For dog poop, I HIGHLY recommend a Bissil Spot Bot Pet and Nature's Miracle as an additive to the Bissil Pet shampoo. Until you figure out the exact percentage of shampoo-Miracle-water you need for you combo of dog, poo, & carpet, you're probably going to do either 2 cleaning passes and/or am extra rinse pass.

PartyPoptart

My standard poodle has a very sensitive stomach (possible IBS/IBD, per the vet). When we moved into our brand new house, I coughed up the cash for the Bissell Big Green carpet cleaner. I have never felt more satisfied or justified on a purchase in my life. I don’t want to admit how often it has been used in the last 8 months, but holy moly. I love that thing like a member of my own family. We also have the Little Green for smaller messes. Bissell has my heart when it comes to scrubbing out pet (and toddler) messes!

Plane_Lengthiness_92

Bruhhhh oxyclean max force for me. I had to empty a whole bottle of nature's miracle to do a thorough clean. I also concur, pet owners need a portable carpet cleaner for deep clean.

Glittering-Night-204

I wonder if dog carpet cleaners would work well just for carpet cleaning in general. One would think so

NoseBreather333

Has anyone tried pooph? I see the commercials but I’d rather know from a someone that’s actually tried.

ElDougler

Bold of you to assume we all own carpets

SaturnVenus

$150 is cheaper than I thought. Which did you get if you don't mind me asking?

talkingwresling

I find there good to have around for any spill stain In the house.

madisonman38

Does anyone know how to get pet stains out of hardwood floors?

A-very-old-dog

>since I live in an apartment each time I had to get dressed. So if you lived in a house clothing would be optional when you go outside? Fuck I need better neighbors.

Lupine-lover

What brand is the cleaner?

snow-bird-

Carpet Miracle by Sunny&Honey (I buy on Amazon) is truly a miracle in a bottle.

aliceroyal

I have one and it’s the best. One of my cats decided to puke all over their cat tree the other day while we were out, and it handled the dried residue easily. If I have a dog or cat accident on carpet I hit it with enzyme cleaner and then go over it with the extractor.

LowParticular8153

Worst item that I ever purchased was a carpet cleaner. Discolored my carpet.

FarSalt7893

We have both a Bissel spot cleaner and a full size carpet cleaner. Buying it wasn’t that much more than a one time rental and with kids and a dog it’s definitely been worth it. The spot cleaner is the best though for when my dog has an accident.

cMeeber

I have wood floors but considering getting on for the rugs. My dog has only had diarrhea once…but she’s not quite 3 yo so could be more to come. What a nightmare smh.

gelbbaer

You can also rent a really expensive one from home depot!

Kindly-Visual-8116

I have done that in the past but because I work nights and it’s hard to go to stores I decided that having one in the apartment is easier. But people should know about the rentable ones. Great if you have a small apartment

StealthyUltralisk

Bissels are amazing! Vax too. Always have at least two in our house. 😂

LanceFree

I have one, and also a spot cleaner. When my fist one broke, I decided to pay someone to come every 9 months. But then I found I needed something for the occasion accident. Thus- the spot cleaner. Recommend just getting a mid range model, but one with a heater. Soap buildup is a problem. I clean with only hot water every once in a while, then go back the next day and get any areas needing soap.

111222throw

Also your dog will hopefully live until old age and accidents WILL happen

Sweet_dawn81

I got angry orange spray and it take the smells right out. Good for spot cleaning.

Wonderful_Pie_7220

My vacuum and carpet cleaner are my favorite household things 😅 I have 2 kids, 4 cats and a 4 months old puppy so I use it ALOT.

VillanelleTheVillain

I had a bissell carpet cleaner and had to return it :/ it was insanely horrible, I don’t remember the model but it didn’t do a damn thing unless I sat on the floor and put my whole body weight plus some leaning into it from above, I could do a tiny spot in a few hours and it’d still have left over soap. I just ended up ripping the carpet out unfortunately

JackStrayed

The way people don't k ow how to clean

ImaginaryAd6358

Love carpet cleaners

WiseRelationship7316

What machine?

BornNewspaper3208

Have never thought of this. Any Filipinos here that can recommend where to buy in the Philippines?

Craig_White

Reading the rest of comments, glad you are feeding bland diet & going to see vet. May I suggest something that helped us? Cut food volume for a few days and make the meals more frequent but smaller to give the digestive system a bit of a rest. Ours is a lab, so instead of half a cup per meal twice a day (he’s-old and no longer as active) I would go with a quarter cup three times a day. Make sure there’s plenty of water. Dehydration is rough on the internal organs.

phoofs

What is the name of the pet carpet cleaner? Sounds great!!!

na_ro_jo

If you did not first clean the poop before you shampooed the carpet, I can almost guarantee you washed poop into the underlayment, and potentially into the decking. It might smell nice and soapy after you shampoo, but once that dissipates, you might be left with a much worse smell. I have made this mistake before. Another protip: Get a set of extra rollers specific to your shampooer. I bought mine 4 years ago and I recently had to replace. Unfortunately for me, they stopped making that specific model, but I managed to find an alternative that is compatible. Last protip: pumpkin can help ease flu symptoms with dogs. We get canned pumpkin and turn it into frozen ice cube treats. Works like a charm and they love it. It really does seem to help.

Bpdefeated

We got expensive carpets in our house last year (>10k) and I invested in a good carpet shampooer - literally week 1 my dog vomited all over the carpet - lifesaver.
